TwoMorrows “Back Issue #104” Focuses on Jack Kirby’s “Fourth World”

TwoMorrows is taking pre-orders for the upcoming publication of “Back Issue #104”.

The June 2018 full-color 84 page magazine is the FOURTH WORLD AFTER KIRBY issue, exploring the enduring legacy of JACK KIRBY’s DC characters! The Return(s) of the New Gods, Why Can’t Mister Miracle Escape Cancellation?, the Forever People, MIKE MIGNOLA’s unrealized New Gods animated movie, the Fourth World in Hollywood, and more. With an all-star lineup, including the work of JOHN BYRNE, PARIS CULLINS, J. M. DeMATTEIS, MARK EVANIER, MICHAEL GOLDEN, RICK HOBERG, WALTER SIMONSON, and more! Cover by STEVE RUDE, re-presenting his variant cover for 2015’s Convergence #6. Edited by MICHAEL EURY.

The magazine also features a character study on Darkseid by Superman Homepage writer James Lantz! Among the comics discussed in the piece was Dan Jurgens’ “Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey”, in which Jurgens talks about the decision to include Darkseid in the story.

Hail to the King. I’m always a little torn on the Fourth World because I respect it as a thing that deserves its story to be unto itself but I also really love the use of the heroes and villains of the New Gods for Superman and the DC Universe. I love how for Asgard the Inhumans and eventually the fourth world Kirby just took the stylistic language superhero costumes and went wild with it. Such a distinct an awesome energy in his work I wonder if we will ever see a creative force of that magnitude again in comics… Read more »
