Stray for a Day

Written by: Joseph Kuhr
Directed by: Scott Jeralds

Taking off from the classic "The Prince and the Pauper" with yet another version but with a complete twist ala "Krypto" style, after stopping a fire, Krypto and Streaky meet a cat named Princess in a cruise ship. Princess is the pet of a famous queen. A cat named Katy agrees to switch roles with Princess and let her see what it's like to live like a stray, however we discover she has other plans and is working alongside Isis, Catwoman's pet who plans on stealing jewels in the ship for her owner. Princes is pretty much shown the simple life by Streaky who wines and dines her, and Princess gets a nice view of normal life, oblivious to Isis' plans. When Princess comes to return, Katy decides she's taking her place for good and throws her off as Krypto comes to the rescue saving the jewels and stopping Isis' evil plans. Meanwhile we get a good look at Streaky who's given a little more personality aside from goofy sidekick which can get really old. He manages to become a hero while sparking his own love interest on the side. Krypto plays a more supporting role in this episode, so Streaky gets the spotlight as love interest superhero.

Krypto gets a dose of jealousy in this episode when Kevin finally meets Krypto's ally Bat Hound and gushes over him endlessly while Krypto feels threatened. As the Penguin's pet birds begin wreaking havoc on the city Krypto attempts to show off for Kevin. But little does he know the more he tries to impress him, the more he fails. And as they snap into action to put the kibosh on the Penguin's birds' plans, Krypto becomes more and more jealous. The animation for this show can be inconsistent unfortunately. Sometimes the episodes have rigid simple animation and then there are episodes like this that have more detail. I really liked the swooping cape animation when Bat Hound arrives in this episode. It's a great effect and I was pleasantly surprised, and the spinning airplane in the climax was also really exciting and well done on the animator's part. We also get to see some pretty cool scenes like the gigantic ice cream machine which was really funny, especially when Krypto gets hit with the mixer. In the end as they all foil the Penguins' birds plans, Kevin assures Krypto that he's the only biggest hero in his life.
