Our Story:
It seems as if Zod, the destroyer of Krypton and mortal enemy of Clark's biological father Jor-El, has won in his plan to take over Earth. Zod has possessed Lex's body with Lana at his side, stranded Clark in the Phantom Zone, sent Martha Kent and Lois to die in a jet crash, and Chloe and Lionel Luthor are being attacked by the mobs running riot in Metropolis as Zod has had Brainiac release a computer virus which has shut down the power all over the globe. Clark watches the Earth recede as he floats into space inside the crystalline trap of the Phantom Zone. He takes a step inside his small crystal cage and suddenly he falls into a barren wasteland that has nothing but desert-like hills with howling winds. Something streaks past him as he makes his way over hill after hill of ruined landscape. He senses someone is there so he calls out for help but suddenly he is attacked by a flying creature swaddled in rags. The creature flies back and forth past Clark striking him with each pass leaving him bloodied. Then other creatures join in the attack pummeling Clark when suddenly a person wrapped in rags appears on a nearby hilltop shining a bright light on the attackers causing then to flee. The light comes from a crystal necklace with an "S" sigil on it and as Clark thanks his saviour, the only response he gets is a kick in the face which knocks him out. Then this person drops the veil she wears and reveals a beautiful young woman who says to the unconscious Clark, "Welcome to the Phantom Zone!"
Next we see Lionel Luthor and Chloe as the mob tries to kill them when Luthorcorp security appears and help the pair escape into the Luthorcorp building while telling them that Lex is there up on the roof. As Chloe and Lionel reach the roof, Zod has already told Lana that Lex is dead and his name is Zod and then he flies off with Lana as Chloe and Lionel can only watch as he leaves. Lionel tells Chloe that only the Kryptonian dagger Clark left at the Kent farm can stop Zod but Lex might die in the process. He also tells Chloe that he can no longer feel his connection to Jor-El and therefore he can't help Chloe beat the Kryptonian super-virus crippling the Earth's powers sources. She tells Lionel she'll head for the Daily Planet as she can't travel with Lionel to Smallvile with her injured leg and the two wish each other luck with their appointed tasks. Back in the Phantom Zone the woman takes Clark to her primitive shelter and she learns that he is the son of Jor-El, Kal-El. She tells Clark she knew Jor-El on Krypton and then she shows him the "S" sigil crystalline necklace. Zod is dragging Lana into a warehouse where we see the black Kryptonian ship which Brainiac and two of Zod's foot soldiers first emerged from.
Zod tells Lana he's about to end the human era on Earth and begin the rebirth of Kyrpton and she will bear witness to these events. He touches the black spaceship and a small octagonal disk with Kryptonian symbols on it emerges from the ship and then the ship vanishes in front of them. At the top of the world near the North Pole, the jet carrying Martha Kent and Lois has crashed, but Martha Kent slowly awakens bruised but otherwise unhurt. She spots Lois halfway out of the jet's shattered fuselage and drags her back inside and wraps the unconscious Lois in blankets. She then futilely tries the jet's radio to call for help and when that doesn't work she looks outside the cockpit window and sees they have crashed near Clark's crystalline Fortress of Solitude! She drags Lois inside the Fortress and suddenly Jor-El's disembodied voice greets her. Jor-El explains to Martha Kent that when Clark used the Kryptonian dagger that is a part of the Fortress against Brainiac instead of Zod, he damaged the Fortress and inadvertently released Zod from the Phantom Zone. Then Zod imprisoned Clark in the Zone and Jor-El has no way to retrieve Clark from there. He also tells Martha Kent that Zod in Lex's body has all the powers that Clark has and she must retrieve the dagger and kill Zod. Martha tells Jor-El to transport her and Lois back to Smallville and he does so but not before he thanks Martha for all she has done in raising Clark and that Clark's destiny is now his own. He bids her farewell and Martha Kent and Lois vanish in a flash of blinding light!
The woman in the Phantom Zone dresses Clark's wounds and tells him her name is Raya and she was Jor-El's assistant in his lab on Krypton. He put Raya in the Phantom Zone as he felt she had a chance to survive there. She also tells Clark that the Phantom Zone was created by Jor-El to keep criminals from all over the 28 known galaxies there to keep them from ever harming anyone again. They are non-corporeal bodiless spirits and therefore the name "Phantom Zone". She shows Clark the necklace telling him that the light from it is the only thing the Phantoms fear and so Jor-El keeps saving her even after his death by having given it to her before placing her in the Zone. She then tells Clark that his father worked until the moment of his death to save Krypton and his mother would not leave Jor-El's side so they both died while Raya was put in the Zone by Jor-El. In the basement of the Daily Planet Chloe hides under a desk trying to decipher the Kryptonian symbols Lionel has written down in the hopes she can defeat the super-virus infecting the world's computers. As she works she hears someone rummaging around and using the gun Lionel gave her she fires in the air to warn the intruder off. But from the rubble appears a smiling young man and Chloe is happy to see its Jimmy Olsen and he explains he had just come to work at the Planet that day when all the chaos broke out.
Back at Lex's mansion we see Zod has bought Lana and the octagonal Kryptonian hard-drive from the ship to use it to kill the virus that Brainiac used to cripple Earth's technology. He needs Pentagon laser satellites up and running to use them to terra-form the Earth's crust and make it a duplicate of Krypton for him to rule over. He also tells Lana he's let her live so she can bear him heirs so he and his bloodline will rule new Krypton for ages to come. He stops the virus and then tells Lana he now has to visit the Pentagon to get something to make sure the satellites will perform as he wishes and when Lana attacks him with a fireplace poker, he brutally takes it from her and impales her right hand through the palm pinning it to the wall! He then leaves telling her when he returns she will submit to him, but after he goes Lana bravely pulls the poker out of the wall and her hand freeing herself. Back in the Phantom Zone Raya is leading Clark to what she says is a back door that Jor-El created in the Zone should any of his family ever get trapped in it. As she does so, Clark is again attacked by two Phantoms who beat him badly and they are Zod's foot soldiers that Clark trapped in the Zone, Nam-Ek and Aethyr! Raya stops them from killing Clark explaining that Clark has the ability to free them all from the Phantom Zone!
Lionel Luthor finds Martha Kent in the barn at the Kent farm and he tells her that he must use the dagger to kill Lex, but Lana shows up and convinces them to let her try and use the dagger as she's the only one who can get close to Zod. She goes back to the mansion and then Zod returns with a briefcase from the Pentagon which has a portable control panel to make the satellites reform the Earth in Krypton's image. When Lana tells Zod she agrees to give him many heirs he embraces her and then Lana tries to use the dagger on him but he's too fast and powerful and he breaks the dagger. Then he swats Lana aside like a fly as he starts up the remote terminal and the satellites in space begin to shoot lasers into the Earth causing massive upheaval and earthquakes everywhere. Chloe and Jimmy fight to survive as the bookcases fall and the walls crumble in the Daily Planet's basement. Back in the Zone Raya explains that only blood from a member of the house of El will open the portal to escape the zone and she borrows Nam-Ek's knife and cuts Clark's palm starting it bleeding. Then she quickly turns and slashes Nam-Ek's throat telling Clark to run for the portal! Clark reaches the nearby portal and putting his bleeding hand on its control panel the device is activated just as Clark sees Aethyr stabbing Raya and he vanishes in a flash of light, but we see that some of the phantoms from the zone are pulled into the portal's light also!
Above Smallville we see several lights appear in the sky and all but one disperse in different directions while that one crashes to Earth in front of us and Clark rises from the crater made by the fall and then he dashes off at super-speed. The barn is collapsing from the tremors and it threatens to kill Lionel and Martha Kent but just as part of Clark's loft falls on them it is caught by Clark who has only one question, "Where is he?" Back at Lex's mansion Zod holds Lana up in the air against the wall choking her to death slowly. Suddenly Clark speeds into the room telling Zod to release Lana just as she faints from Zod's attack. Then Clark uses his heat vision to fracture the black ship's hard drive and the satellites cease their laser assault on the Earth stopping the earthquakes everywhere. Zod screams "No!", and then rushes Clark and they fly through the mansion window and into the air as the two super-powered beings fight it out. They crash into the forest and Zod pummels Clark straight through a boulder and then throws him into a nearby field and flies up to Clark and lands in front of him telling him he almost regrets the fast and easy victory over him. He demands Clark kneel in front of him and declare loyalty to him. To our surprise Clark hangs his head and kneels before Zod! Then Zod holds out his hand obviously wanting Clark to take it as a gesture of submission and Clark grasps the madman's hand!
But Zod's smile suddenly turns to a grimace of pain as Clark holds Zod's hand tightly and we see a bright light appearing in it. Clark lets go of Zod's hand and then we see the necklace that Raya gave Clark from his father and the "S" sigil glows even brighter in Zod's palm as Clark says, "My father sends his regards." Then with a howl of pain we see the essence of Zod appear in front of Lex as it's torn from the younger Luthor and it screams one last time as it vanishes back into the Phantom Zone. Clark picks up the now darkened necklace that was a last gift from his father; a gift that has saved them all. Clark goes to Smallville Medical Center and finds a recovering Lois in a bed and she tells Clark all she remembers is waking for moment in what looked like a palace of ice and she thought it was Heaven and she wasn't afraid anymore. Clark tells Lois he thinks her injuries caused the "vision", but he's glad she's safe and he holds her hand in thankfulness. The two share an awkward moment of affection for each other and then break their grasp embarrassed at their dual realization of having feelings for each other. Lex awakens in the hospital and he approaches Lana who's just had her wounded hand bandaged. He sees her injury and all the people being attended to under the emergency lighting and asks Lana if he is responsible for all this chaos.
Lana assures Lex he wasn't responsible as he wasn't in his right mind and he tells Lana if she gives him a chance he will do everything in his power to make things better and undo all the harm he's created. Clark returns to the Daily Planet and he and Chloe hug each other overjoyed that each of them is still unharmed. Chloe introduces Jimmy to Clark and then Clark watches as the two leave for a bite to eat. Then he returns to the Kent farm where Martha Kent is starting the cleanup after the quakes and she tells Clark that Lionel's connection to Jor-El has been ended. Clark tells Martha that he took Raya's crystal to the Fortress but when he tried to talk to Jor-El there was no answer and the Fortress appears to be dead from the damage is suffered. Clark confesses he's confused by all the changes since Pa Kent died and the recent events have made him question what he should do next. Martha tells him to just follow his heart and that the world needs heroes to show the way and that's all he can do and hope for. Then we see Lionel who claimed his connection with Jor-El was ended but he's still drawing Kryptonian symbols and he interprets one he just drew to mean "Power". And in his mansion Lex holds the remains of the black spaceship's hard drive in his hand and studies its mysterious Kryptonian symbols. Then we see a great waterfall in Argentina where the beautiful landscape suddenly turns ominous when a Phantom Zone spirit appears over it and flies straight at the screen. A danger from the Phantom Zone has arrived on Earth and will show its threat in the future in as yet unknown ways!

Our Story:
Martha Kent is in the kitchen listening to the media reports about the cleanup all over the world and especially in Metropolis from what they're calling "Dark Thursday"; the day Zod wreaked havoc when he took over Lex Luthor's body and shut the world's power down. The newscaster remarks that the cleanup will take years but that it's going faster in Metropolis then other cities. And the reason for that is Clark who's working through the nights under cover of darkness using his powers to clear the streets of debris. He speeds into the kitchen and Martha tells him he's working too hard going day and night like this, and Clark is exhausted proving even he has his limits. He's working in the barn when he suddenly for the first time in his life sneezes. But this is no ordinary sneeze as the wind coming from Clark's lungs is enough to blow the barn door off and send it flying into the skies over Smallville. And as Lois jogs down a country lane miles away, the door comes crashing down from above and lands right behind her in a field to imbed itself into the ground with a tremendous crash!
Lex is driving Lana from Metropolis to his mansion so she can stay there until Metropolis University reopens next semester after repairs. But Lex notices a black SUV following them and he keeps an eye on it until it suddenly tears off the freeway. Back in the Kent kitchen, Martha is taking Clark's temperature as he's sweating with a fever from what appears to be a cold. Martha tells Clark he's never been sick but since he was powerless in the Phantom Zone she thinks he caught the cold at that time. Then Lois comes into the kitchen telling Martha and Clark about the barn door that crashed into the field. She sees Clark has a cold and offers a remedy of a mixture of Cayenne pepper and honey but Clark refuses it as he doesn't want to sneeze again. Then Lois looks out the window and sees that the Kent's barn door is gone and it looks as if it was blasted away, but Clark and Martha play dumb about the incident.
Back at his mansion Lex is telling a Private Investigator named Pontius that he was followed again and the man says he trailed the vehicle to an abandoned warehouse. Lex tells him to take care of the matter and the man leaves as Lana enters the room. Lex tells Lana about his being trailed and he tells her to contact Pontius if anything happens to him. At the Daily Planet Clark drops in to see Chloe and tell her about the barn door incident and Lois' curiosity about the matter and his super-sneeze. But Chloe is skeptical until Clark sneezes again scattering papers all over the room and buffeting people as if a gale wind occurred and then simply disappeared. Lex visits his father Lionel Luthor accusing him of having him followed but his father denies it and tells Lex his misdeeds on Dark Thursday could have been witnessed by anyone and he offers Lex his help but Lex refuses it and leaves the office.
Once in the elevator however, it stops in between floors and suddenly gas pours into the vents. Lex pulls a gun he's carrying but it does him no good as he succumbs to the gas and falls to the floor. Then a man jumps in from the top of the elevator through a hatch wearing a gas mask and he pulls out a walkie-talkie and reports to someone that Lex is out! Clark is leaning over an a bucket of steaming water in the Kent kitchen and Ma's insisting that Clark delay his chores until he's feeling better when Lionel Luthor comes in telling them about Lex's abduction. He tells Clark he should find Lex as whoever has captured him could pressure Lex into remembering what happened that day and he would then expose Clark's secrets. Lex awakens in the warehouse his detective had traced the SUV to and he's inside a chain-link fence enclosure lab strapped to a table. A man named Block tells Lex he was seen by the only working satellite on the day Lex broke into the Pentagon and he was recorded using his super-powers to impossibly swat away bullets from the guard's guns. He tells Lex he's killed Pontius when he came to the warehouse and now he wants Lex to reveal the source of his powers.
Chloe goes with Lois to witness the Kent's barn door stuck in the field but she plays it off telling Lois she thinks it was a micro-burst, a mini tornado, that caused the freak accident but Lois is highly skeptical. Back at the warehouse, Block's companion tells him they had orders to not use violence against Lex but Block tells the man he'll shoot him like he shot Pontius if the man doesn't go along with him. Then Block walks up to Lex and casually shoots him in the right arm wounding him! Lois goes to the Daily Planet to see Chloe and show her the article she's written about the barn door and the freak weather that caused it but Chloe tells her that it's too outrageous for anyone to believe and the editors won't publish it. But Lois in undaunted and tells her cousin that she'll find some who will publish it.
Clark drops in and tells Lana that Lex is missing and he needs her help to find him but since Clark told her about Lex being possessed before it happened to him she is wary about Clark's motives and tells him to go find Lex on his own. After Clark steps into the hallway she calls the detective Pontius but getting no answer she hangs up not realizing Clark's used his super-hearing to listen to her call. Then she finds a remote control on Lex's desk that drops a screen down and she discovers that she's been filmed in her room while she was undressing! She fast forwards the tape and hears Pontius telling Lex the warehouse location in Metropolis is at 5th and Hawthorne so she now knows where Lex might be. The man Block asks again where Lex got his now-gone powers so Lex tells him the truth that an alien inhabited his body and when he left Lex's body he lost his powers but Block doesn't believe the truth as it's so fantastic. He threatens to shoot Lex mortally so Lex then tells Block that his company developed a serum that gave him the powers and he also tells him the serum is kept in a vault at Luthorcorp and Block send his partner Wagner to fetch it.
At a building in Metropolis with a clock tower atop it, Lionel Luthor exits an elevator that leads to the clock tower and he visits a young blond haired man named Oliver Queen. The two reminisce about Queen and Lex being in boarding school together years ago, and Lionel tells Oliver that he should have stayed in Star City and he knows that Queen had the only working satellite on Dark Thursday so he suspects Queen in Lex's abduction. Queen denies it all and says he just left his home in Star City to enjoy the air in Metropolis. The elder Luthor warns Queen that if he had anything to do with Lex being captured that he'll make Queen regret it and then Lionel leaves. Clark sees Chloe at the Daily Planet and tells her his illness is sapping his powers and he also tells her about Lana trying to contact Pontius. Chloe looks up the private detective's address and insists on going with Clark as he's exhausted and ill.
Lana goes to the warehouse and calls Chloe telling her where she is but then she's captured by Block immediately. When Clark and Chloe arrive at Pontius' office Clark spots a hidden door with his x-ray vision, but he's too weak to tear it open all the way. Chloe tells Clark since he started sneezing so violently, he must have super-lungs and he should try blowing the door open. Clark's skeptical but he inhales deeply and we see huge volumes of air flowing into his lungs. Then he blows out hard and the steel door is blasted into the hidden room by Clark's super-breath! They enter the now disheveled chamber and find Pontius's notes and a picture of the warehouse with its address. Chloe wants to go with Clark but since his powers are unreliable he forbids it and tells her to go back to the Planet and then he speeds off to the warehouse. Wagner has retrieved the serum and Block fills a syringe with the liquid and tells Lex he's going to inject Lana with it but with a gun at Lex's head so she won't do anything hasty. Lex tells Block it was created for his blood specifically so Block says he'll inject Lex instead.
But when Block leans over Lex, Lex rams his head into Block's and Lana punches Wagner and grabs Block's gun while he's stunned. She starts to unlock Lex's manacles but while she does Block grabs at the gun and pushes Lana into the chain-link enclosure's wall. Block picks up the gun and sticks it under Lana's neck just as Lex stabs him in the back with the serum-filled needle. Block spasms in pain and falls to the floor as he fires the gun wildly around the lab. A fire erupts and Wagner runs out but Lex and Lana are caught by the growing flames and are trapped in the enclosure. They frantically look for a way out of the pen but it looks hopeless and Lex tells Lana he's sorry for everything that's happened. At that moment Clark speeds up to the warehouse and then inside it. Lex and Lana cower close to the floor with the inferno growing when suddenly a huge blast of air extinguishes the fire in seconds. We see Clark has blown the fire out from a hidden position in the warehouse and Lex and Lana simply stand there in amazement over their miraculous salvation.
The next day Chloe and Clark are getting ready for a picnic at the lake when Lois arrives and shows them she got her story published, even though it's written up in the sensationalistic Inquisitor with the headline, "Global Warming or Alien Invasion!" But Lois is still happy and tells the two she thinks that investigative reporting is something she would like to do for a living. Chloe asks Lois if she wants to go with them to the lake and Lois remarks it looks like rain and she'll skip the invitation and she heads for the barn's new door. But Clark sticks his head out of the loft window and uses his new found super-breath to blow the clouds away for miles and Lois exits the barn to find blue skies and a sunny day! Back at Lex's mansion, Lana shows Lex the tape of her undressing and he explains that the entire mansion has security cameras and no one looks at the tapes unless there's an emergency. But Lana tells Lex unless the camera in her room comes down that she's moving out. Lex reassures her that the camera in her room will be removed within the hour, but he insists that the rest of them stay in place as that is simply part of his life as he lives it and she agrees to the stipulation.
That night Block's accomplice Wagner visits Oliver Queen in his clock tower penthouse and walks out onto the roof through a door just as Queen shoots a green arrow into the bricks alongside the doorframe. Wagner reports that Block went Rogue and that's why Queen's orders for no violence weren't heeded, so we now know that Queen was the one who had Lex kidnapped after all. Then Wagner tells Queen that Lex's powers are now gone, but someone unknown was at the warehouse and had other powerful abilities. Queen orders Wagner to find whoever it was in the warehouse and the man leaves. Then Oliver Queen says, "How about Borneo?", and fires another green arrow into the Metropolis sky and it arcs past the full moon and lands in the spinning metallic globe atop the Daily Planet right in the country of Borneo! As the screen goes dark we realize that a new player has entered the story and his and Clark's world will obviously collide in the near future.

Our Story:
Jimmy Olsen and Chloe are parked one night at Smallville's "Makeout Point" where young couples go to romance each other. He tells Chloe he got a tip there's something weird happening in the area and then Jimmy decides to put his arm around Chloe to look like they're there for the same reason as the other young people. Chloe reminds Jimmy they had one brief romantic interlude and if that's where they're headed again, that she wants things to go slower this time and Jimmy agrees. As a couple from one of the nearby cars leaves the field for the privacy of the woods, Jimmy and Chloe suddenly start kissing more passionately then they had just agreed to. But they're interrupted by horrible screams and they run into the woods to find a trail of clothing from the other couple. They follow the trail until it ends and Chloe is holding a girl's blouse she found in her hands when blood starts to drip on it from above. Jimmy and Chloe look up and are horrified to find the body of a girl stuck up in the bough of a tree. And the body has been badly cut and has suffered multiple wounds before she died!
At the Kent farm, Martha is telling Clark she replied that they'll be attending Lex Luthor's costume charity ball to benefit the victims of "Dark Thursday" when Zod nearly conquered the Earth. Clark replies he's not into costumes and frankly uncomfortable at the thought of seeing Lex and Lana together as a couple, especially after seeing Lana called "the next Lex girl" in all the papers. Martha Kent reminds Clark that he has to move on from his loss of Lana, Pa Kent, and even Jor-El despite his feelings. At his mansion, Lex is telling a Dr. Grohl over the phone to keep investigating what we know to be the remains of the Kryptonian ship's hard drive that Clark shattered with his heat vision. Lana enters as one of Lex's employee's wheels in a rack of costumes that Lex tells Lana she can pick one from for the ball. But Lana is upset over the tabloid's treatment of her as just another girl for Lex and Lex tells Lana to ignore the press.
Lex tells Lana that he first learned of the harshness of modern media at 13 years of age when he was at boarding school and a reporter showed up and told him that his mother had died. He also tells Lana that he wants their relationship to move to the next level, but she's hesitating because her trust was damaged by her experiences with Clark. He says it's time for her to commit to him and he won't pay for Clark's mistakes anymore. Clark visits Chloe at Lois' apartment over the Talon coffee shop where she's staying until Metropolis University reopens after Dark Thursday repairs are finished. Chloe tells Clark what happened at Makeout Point and that the young man is still missing that the dead girl entered the woods with. Clark asks Chloe what she was there for anyway when Jimmy comes in and Chloe's expression answers Clark's question for him. Lois is at the Kent farm and sends a response to e-mail she got from the tabloid paper "The Inquisitor" about whether or not she wants the reporter's job they're offering her, but we don't get to see her response. She answers a knock at the door and it's Oliver Queen with an envelope for Martha Kent who's now a Senator and hoping for his financial support, but Lois doesn't know its Queen and sends him away with a tip thinking he's just a courier.
Martha comes downstairs and when she describes Oliver Queen to Lois they realize that Lois has sent him away and might have lost any chance Martha has of gaining his sponsorship. Clark and Chloe go to Lone Pine woods where the murder happened and the area is being searched by officials. Chloe tells Clark exactly where she found the body and Clark super-speeds ahead to investigate. He finds the spot and also an attractive Park Ranger named Gloria who tells Clark nothing was found there of the missing youth. But Clark uses his x-ray vision and spots the boy covered with vines nearby. He runs to him just as Chloe catches up and Clark tears at the vines covering the victim when to his and Chloe's surprise, the thorns of the vines cut Clark's hands until he releases them and only then his invulnerability kicks in healing them! The next day, Jimmy, Chloe, and Clark all go to Smallville Medical Center and visit the injured young man in his room and they see an x-ray that shows strange pod-like spots on his lungs. Jimmy is upset that Clark and Chloe went to the woods without him as he now considers Chloe "his girl", and Chloe reassures him that she simply felt he was nervous in the woods.
Jimmy leaves and Chloe tells Clark she has sent a sample of the vine that cut Clark to her Metropolis University botany professor for analysis. Clark says that Lex has a greenhouse that borders Lone Pine woods that he wants to check out, and Chloe reminds Clark that he can't blame everything bad in Smallville on Lex. Clark visits the greenhouse and finds an odd plant with pods like he saw on the boy's x-rays. But then Lex comes in and tells Clark he's worn out his welcome there and he should leave at once, but not before Clark warns Lex that Lana is bound to discover his real nature in time. Lana visits Chloe at the apartment over the coffee shop and admits to Chloe that she's afraid to commit to Lex due to all her bad decisions in her past relationships. Chloe then reminds Lana that the only way to find out if Lex is right for her is for her to take a chance with Lex and then see how she feels. Jimmy has gone back to Lone Pine woods to take pictures and hopefully uncover the mystery there when he meets Gloria the ranger. Gloria starts to get overly friendly and starts coming on to an embarrassed Jimmy, when she suddenly pushes him down to the ground. And then the weird killer vines appear and wrap themselves around Jimmy trapping him while one rams straight down his throat!
Lois visits Oliver Queen at his clock tower penthouse/office in Metropolis to apologize for treating him badly the other day and to hopefully gain his support for Martha Kent in her position as a senator. Oliver surprises Lois by asking her to be his date at Lex's charity ball and then even produces a costume in her size for her to wear. Lois hesitates but Queen tells her that if Senator Kent wants his support, Lois will have to work to convince him so Lois concedes. Chloe and Clark return to visit the young man in the hospital and as they approach the boy's room Chloe tells Clark her botany professor has determined the pods inside the patient are seeds and are alien and not found on Earth. But as they come down the hall a nurse and an orderly run frantically from the room calling for a code red alert. Clark and Chloe run to the room's door and are shocked to see that the room is now filled with the strange vines and they've burst out of the young man's chest killing him!
Chloe tells Clark that her professor has found that the pods are feminine and need a male host to reproduce themselves, and Clark wonders how they ever got to Earth. As they walk down the hall an ambulance crew passes in front of them telling them they have the body of the female park ranger from Lone Pine woods. Clark tells them he can identify the body but when they show it to him he sees that it's not Gloria. And when the ambulance crew tells Clark the body's been confirmed as that of the only female park ranger in the county Clark realizes that Gloria is the culprit in all this. He speeds away as Chloe goes back to the room and sees the alien vines enter a wall outlet and with a huge spark that section of vine dies and Chloe knows that electricity will kill it! Clark has sped back to Lone Pine woods and Gloria appears telling him she once lived on a planet like Earth but its plant life was destroyed by civilization building over its forests. She tells Clark she tried to restore plant life there just as she's trying to on Earth but she was caught and sentenced to a desert world where the sun never sets and nothing grows.
Clark realizes Gloria is talking about the Phantom Zone and Gloria tells him she escaped the zone when he was trapped there by Zod and he opened the gateway sucking her into it when he left. She now intends to seed our planet using her deadly vines on every male at Lex's party and with that Clark is wrapped by them and his chest is impaled with one! As he passes out from the pain, the last thing he sees is Jimmy nearby wrapped in a cocoon as fatal as the one he's trapped in! Lex's party is in full swing and Oliver Queen has come as a masked Robin Hood and he's escorting Lois who's dressed as Maid Marion. Lex is attending as Julius Caesar and he's surprised when Lana walks in costumed as Cleopatra. She tells Lex she thinks she's gotten past her fears and Lex is glad to hear it. They run into Oliver Queen and Lois, and Queen informs Lois that he and Lex attended boarding school and both Lana and Lois can tell there's no love lost between the two billionaires. They part and Lois asks Oliver how he became rich and he explains he inherited his money when his parents died.
They meet up with Senator Martha Kent and Oliver tells her that Lois has convinced him that she and her policies are worth his backing. Back in Lone Pine woods, Chloe has found Clark trapped in the vines and she's bought along her taser stun gun she carries for protection. She turns it on and jams it into the vines killing them causing them to free Clark who falls to the ground. His invulnerability returns and he recovers from the vines deadly embrace and he tells Chloe to free Jimmy too. Chloe tells Clark that the vines weakness is electricity and he must hurry to stop Gloria from killing all the men at Lex's party. He flashes away as she turns to help Jimmy. Clark super-speeds into Lex's greenhouse to find Gloria standing there with the first of the partiers she's about to kill. He tells the man to run and when he does Gloria tells Clark even though he freed her from the Phantom Zone she has to kill him and she swats him away with strength as great as Clarks! Then she starts to grow vines and wraps Clark in them, but before he succumbs to them he uses his heat-vision to set off the fire sprinklers in the greenhouse. They short out the greenhouse lights causing electricity to arc through the entire structure which kills all the vines and Gloria who vanishes in a blaze of electricity!
Chloe has called an ambulance to pick up Jimmy and she tells them they have to use their defibrillator to kill the seed pods inside him but the Emergency Technicians tell her they can only do that to heart attack patients. They load Jimmy into the ambulance and allow Chloe to ride with him. Once they climb in the cab Chloe grabs their defibrillator's paddles and charges them up and before the techs can stop her she shocks Jimmy who immediately is cured by the death of the pods inside him. He asks Chloe if she just shocked him with the paddles she's holding and she smiles and admits to doing so. The party's over and Oliver Queen takes Lois home to the Talon's back door and tries to kiss her goodnight. But Lois challenges him to try and use his bow and arrow to hit a soda can on top of a dumpster and if he hits it she'll allow him the kiss. He takes aim and shoots and appears to miss the can and Lois wishes him better luck next time. But as she leaves we see that he shot the pull tab off the top of the can and it's on the end of the arrow that's stuck in the brick wall!
Lex and Lana have bid their guests goodnight and they're alone at last and Lex tells Lana he's never felt so satisfied about her decision to move forward with him. They stand in front of his massive fireplace and each starts to undress the other and it's clear that they are definitely taking their relationship to the next level. And Clark... Well Clark is in his loft alone bouncing a ball back to himself off the barn wall. His loneliness is in stark contrast to the connection we've seen the other three couples make. And once again his uniqueness has isolated him from others, and his pain is evident in the sad look on his face.

Our Story:
Lionel Luthor is holding a get acquainted party for Kansas Senator Martha Kent to help her build a financial base of support as the elder Luthor is encouraging her to run for U.S. senator. He's loaned her a priceless necklace to wear but Martha is uncomfortable doing so despite Lionel's insistence. Oliver Queen enters the party with Lois Lane as his date and Lois immediately upsets a rich guest with a remark about his corporate misdeeds. Oliver excuses himself to get Lois a drink and Lionel is formally introducing Martha to the crowd when suddenly a green arrow flies into the light switches plunging the room into darkness. Then a man dressed completely in green leather with a hood and dark glasses wielding a collapsible bow runs up to Martha and snatches the necklace right off of her! He runs to the patio as Lois grabs a server's tray and catching up to him she swings it at him but he easily bats it away. Lois demands he return the necklace but his answer is to use a hand crossbow to shoot an arrow high above and then a line attached to the bolt carries the man away. But as he rises up, Lois snatches a ring on a chain off of his neck which is her only clue to try and track him down.
The head of Safetex security questions Lois in Oliver Queen's clock tower penthouse after the party but Lois isn't cooperating with him so he leaves. She shows Oliver the ring she snatched from the strange thief and explains it'll be a great story for her as she's now working for the Metropolis Inquisitor, a sensationalistic tabloid. Then Clark shows up as Martha told him where Lois was, and says he wants to track down the necklace for Lionel Luthor. Oliver tells Clark that Lionel hasn't reported the theft to the police and that a dozen more similar robberies have recently occurred. Then Oliver questions Ma's political savvy for trusting Lionel Luthor and it's clear that Oliver and Clark don't like each other and are from different worlds, so Lois takes off to try and track down the thief. Lex Luthor and Lana have just returned from jogging when a Dr. Groll visits Lex telling him he's figured out that the device he's been investigating, which we know was from Brainiac's ship, is a potential power source not found on Earth. He also tells Lex that if it falls into the wrong hands it might become a very dangerous weapon. Lana is upset at this but acts nonchalant and then Lex tells Groll to keep working until he's learned the device's secrets.
Lois goes to Chloe at the Daily Planet asking her help in researching the ring she has and Chloe takes some pictures of it. But suddenly a green arrow flies into a post in the room and sprays a green gas that knocks the two women out. Then the mysterious green-clad archer walks in and scoops the ring from Chloe's desk and leaves! Next we see the archer enter Oliver Queen's penthouse and he places the ring down and picks up the picture of Oliver as a child being held by his now deceased parents. Lionel Luthor calls Lana to his office at Luthorcorp and tells her he knows she and Lex are a couple now, but he's more concerned that Lex is trying to unlock the secrets of the piece of alien technology. Lana says she wants to help protect Lex from himself and Lionel advises her to destroy the alien artifact if she can. Oliver Queen is visiting Lois at her apartment and reading the story she wrote dubbing the thief the "Green Arrow Bandit". He tells her she's out of luck now that the man stole the ring as it was her only real clue but Lois assures him that she left that out of the story. Oliver's concerned that the people the man's been stealing from will use her to try and find the thief so he asks her to accompany him to Cancun for an impromptu vacation, but all Lois cares about is getting the scoop.
Clark goes to Lionel Luthor and shows him pictures of the exotic pieces the archer's been stealing and Lionel points out to Clark that there's only one of Safetex's clients who hasn't yet been raided. That night the very man who Lionel showed Clark, and has a priceless Egyptian necklace in his penthouse, is being watched by the Green Arrow through his high-tech dark glasses. He places an arrow into his bow that first shoots a hook into the wall behind him, then when he fires the arrow into a flagpole atop the man's penthouse the Green Arrow uses a pulley on his bow to ride it from atop the Daily Planet to the man's apartment. He enters the room with the necklace but it's guarded with a laser alarm system, so he shoots a prism arrow into the laser deflecting the beams away from the necklace that he then easily picks up. But as the Green Arrow turns to leave, he's shocked to see Clark standing there telling him to put it back!
He tries to leave and Clark bars his path so he swings at Clark who stops his blow as if a child had thrown it and tosses him across the room into the laser beams setting off the alarm. Realizing that Clark has supernatural strength, he then uses his hand crossbow to shoot a small bolt at Clark who snatches it out of midair using his super-speed reflexes. Then the Green Arrow sees a guard enter the room so he fires a special taser-bolt at the man who's dropped immediately by the high-voltage. Clark runs to the man and pulls out the taser-bolt, but by then the Green Arrow has made his escape! Dr. Groll enters an elevator the next day at Luthorcorp to find Lana on it. She stops the elevator and tells him that Lionel Luthor will probably approach him about the alien device and he's not to cooperate with him or she'll expose his activities effectively running his career. Then she calmly restarts the elevator as if she hadn't just blackmailed the man. Chloe asks Clark how the Green Arrow got away from him and he admits that the man is very good at what he does.
Chloe tells Clark that even though the titanium alloy arrows have proven untraceable, she's using her computer to hopefully make a clearer image of whatever was etched on the inside of the ring that was taken. At that moment Lois is surprised in her apartment by two unknown men and she hurriedly dials Chloe just before they overpower her. Chloe answers her phone and hearing Lois' screams she tells Clark who super-speeds there in seconds but Lois is already gone. Just then Oliver Queen comes in and when Clark tells him he thinks the Green Arrow kidnapped Lois, Oliver tells Clark that all the artifacts the Green Arrow's been stealing were bought illegally on the black market and stolen in the first place. At that moment Clark gets a text message from Chloe to call her and Oliver gets a signal on his Blackberry that shows a tracer on Lois' location. Oliver leaves and Chloe sends Clark's phone the image her computer came up with and it's a family crest that has three arrows on it. Clark remembers seeing it at Oliver Queen's penthouse when he met him and he super-speeds there. He stands in front of what looks like the back of the clock that's in the tower penthouse wall.
Realizing the clock has a seam running down its middle, he uses his great strength to force open the clock wall which turns out to be the door to the Green Arrow's lair! Inside are various bows and a workbench he uses to make his trick arrows. Then Clark opens a workbench drawer to find clipped headlines showing how Oliver Queen's been secretly using his billions to finance worthy projects without anyone knowing he's involved. A scanner on the wall shows the tracking signal that Oliver Queen got on his Blackberry telling him of Lois' location so he speeds for that spot. As he does Lois is being dragged into a room and the two men are dunking her head into a tank of water trying to get the identity of the Green Arrow from her. Then we see the head of Safetex who questioned Lois earlier enter the room and he tells Lois the Green Arrow has made a fool of him and his security company to all his rich clients. He tells the men to keep dunking Lois under the water until she finally passes out without telling them what they want so he then directs the men to kill her!
Just as one man draws his gun and fires at Lois, a green arrow flies into the room deflecting the bullet with an incredible shot! Then we see Green Arrow standing above them and he fires another arrow knocking the other torturer out and back several feet in the room. Before the man with the gun can react, Green Arrow fires a guide wire into the far wall and rides it down knocking the man over. He lands and swivels and fires another arrow taking out the man with the gun rapidly. Then he shoots the fleeing Safetex security chief with an arrow right through his shoulder pinning him to a beam and then the arrow releases a green gas that renders him unconscious! He bends over Lois who is still passed out and he takes her bound arms and wraps then around his neck and using his hand crossbow he fires a bolt into the ceiling that lifts he and Lois from the room. Lana enters the Luthor mansion and Lex confronts her telling her he knows she coerced Dr. Groll concerning the alien box. Lex tells her he's impressed she cares for him that much and asks if she wants him to shut down the project investigating the alien artifact. But Lois surprises him again by saying he should continue the research to prevent another disaster like Dark Thursday when Zod almost destroyed the Earth.
The Green Arrow takes Lois to the top of the building she was in and she awakens on the roof. Asking her if she's all right, Lois responds by knocking him down and grabbing his small crossbow to hold him at bay. She shoots one bolt past him into the bottom of the lighted sign they're standing under to convince him she's serious, and then starts to try and take off his hood and sunglasses to unmask him. But just as she does, blasts of heat vision coming from a hidden Clark distract her knocking out the lights on the sign and giving the Green Arrow the chance to slip away. He races through an alleyway on his motorcycle until he's blocked by Clark who admits it was him on the roof and that he knows he's really Oliver Queen. Oliver is amazed at Clark's abilities but Clark tells him he must return the necklace he stole from Lionel Luthor and then he simply walks away. Clark goes to the Daily Planet the next day to find Chloe praising the Green Arrow as it seems he's been returning all the stolen artifacts to the museums that lost them originally. She then discovers her files on the ring are all gone and when Clark asks her as a favor to him to forget her investigation, she figures that Clark and the Green Arrow have come to an understanding with each other.
Lex comes into his mansion to find his father there and as they talk we realize that Lionel trying to recruit Lana to destroy the alien artifact was just a test that Lex used his father for to find out if Lana would stay loyal to him. Then Lex tells his father despite his help testing Lana that he won't share any information he finds out about the alien piece. And if Lionel tells Lana the truth about being tested, Lex will reveal to the Kents that Lionel's friendship with them is just his way of using them. Clark enters his barn loft to find Oliver Queen reading the papers Clark's found telling about Oliver's parent's death in an accident at sea and now he knows Clark's investigating him. Clark tells Oliver he doesn't approve of his bending the law the way he does but Oliver insists that his ends justify his means. Clark warns Oliver that keeping his identity as the Green Arrow from Lois will only hurt her in the end and Oliver responds that just because Clark lost Lana to Lex it doesn't mean it can't work out for him and Lois. Oliver returns the stolen necklace to Clark telling him that Lionel knew it was originally stolen so it just proves his methods are necessary. Then Oliver tells Clark he's wrong to stay hidden on a farm with his amazing abilities and that the world needs men like them more then ever. He tells Clark when he is ready to work with him to help people with his unique gifts he should call him and that gives Clark something to think about. Only time will tell where this idea of Oliver's will take Clark to.

Our Story:
It's October 26th, 1996 at the Excelsior Academy and a young Lex Luthor and his friend Duncan are walking along talking about their favorite comic book character Warrior Angel when they run across their personal school bully Oliver Queen and his two friends, Geoffrey and Alden. Oliver takes the comic book from Duncan and then the three bullies tease Duncan about his being there on scholarship and not coming from a rich family as they do. Oliver tears the comic in half and then pushes Lex down making his hat fall off and then they tease Lex about his baldness before walking away. As they do Lex and Duncan leave and we hear Duncan say that someday he's going to get those guys. The time is now and Lex is standing in front of the school and we realize we were just seeing Lex's memory of that day and he's there for a reunion. Lana asks Lex why they came and Lex tells her the boys from the school grew into prosperous businessmen and it's good for business to attend although Lana can see he's uncomfortable. And when Oliver Queen, Geoffrey and Alden walk up to him it's clear there's still no love lost between them. When Alden mentions Duncan an uncomfortable silence occurs and Alden walks away to get another drink. When he does he ends up standing at the hall entrance with the statue of a warrior holding a sword atop it. Alden thinks aloud that if Duncan where there he'd still be a loser and suddenly a corner of the statue falls and misses Alden by inches. Oliver, Alden, and Lex run over and when Alden proclaims it must be his lucky day, the sword of the statue breaks loose and falls fatally impaling him and splattering Lex with his blood!
Lex's father Lionel visits him and finds Lex with a school patch in one hand and a drink in the other. Lex is cynical about the death so his father leaves and we see Lex has the patch again and that it's attached to the remains of a blazer's breast pocket. Then he recalls he and Duncan discussing their futures at school and Lex telling Duncan how he hates the thought of working for his father and Duncan says he wants to become a lawyer and help needy people who can't afford lawyers. Lex and Duncan make a pact to go into business together to help the needy and it seems their futures are set. As they walk through the halls they see Oliver, Alden, and Geoffrey exit a teacher's office and from a hiding spot in another room they see the trio stealing answers for the mid-term exams, and Lex's reverie ends with him holding the breast pocket patch. At the Kent farm Martha is making a dinner for Clark and Chloe and Chloe tells Clark that strange events are occurring around the world such as the destruction of a village in India the night after villagers saw something fall from the sky.
Clark determines there are more escapees from the Phantom Zone accidentally released when he escaped the Zone and he tells Chloe since Oliver Queen owes him a favor he'll ask him for help since his satellites where the only ones working on Dark Thursday. Oliver and Lois are exiting the hospital with Geoffrey and after they talk about Alden's accident, Geoffrey walks over to get in his limousine. His driver tosses away a cigarette and as he and Geoffrey drive away, a leak pours gasoline from the limos rear until it drains to the still smoldering cigarette. With a tremendous explosion that knocks Oliver and Lois down, Geoffrey and his driver are killed by the gas trail to the limo igniting! Clark visits Oliver the next day and tells him that he wants Chloe to have access to the Queen Industries satellite grid information for her article on Dark Thursday. Oliver agrees if Clark will help him prove that Lex had Alden and Geoffrey killed as he claims he knows how evil Lex really is. Then we flashback to Duncan and Lex arguing about what to do about Oliver and his friends having stolen the mid-term answers. Lex wants to use the information to blackmail the trio into being friendly to them and Duncan says he wants to turn them into the school headmaster for the theft.
Then the three boys show up and Oliver tells Lex he thought they had an agreement and Duncan realizes that Lex has already cut his deal with Oliver. He grows angry and rebuffs Lex telling him he's still going to turn them in and Lex gets mad and throws Duncan down on the ground and starts beating him badly. Then Lex bolts awake in present day and it was him dreaming about the incident. He tells Lana he had a nightmare and lies to her saying he doesn't recall the dream. He pours himself a drink but then the decanter falls off the table. As he and Lana watch in amazement, the decanter rolls across the floor by itself. Lex walks over and picks it up and then the lights start flickering on and off and the chandelier Lex and Lana are standing under suddenly breaks loose and falls down smashing into pieces. Lex pushes and himself Lana out of harm's way, but Lana falls hard and is knocked unconscious in this latest strange event! Lana is treated at the Smallville Medical Center and though she has a concussion, the doctor assures Lex that with rest she'll be fine.
Clark stops by to visit Lana but Lex forbids him entry to see her. Lois comes in and tells Clark she senses a story with all these odd events and she thinks that Oliver and Lex's schoolmate Duncan is involved and she intends to find out what's going on. Clark visits Oliver and Oliver shows him an EMP arrow he's developed which kills all electrical fields in an eight foot radius. Then Clark asks about Duncan and Oliver tells him that he and Lex killed Duncan years ago! He tells the story about Lex jumping on Duncan and beating him badly 10 years ago. When Lex was pulled off of Duncan he tore Duncan's breast pocket with the patch off of him and then tried to apologize, but the boy who was Lex's only friend breaks loose and runs out into the street and is struck head-on by a passing car. Oliver tells Clark that Duncan suffered massive brain injuries and died two days later, but in the interim Lionel Luthor stepped in and had the whole matter hushed up while he had the finest doctors try and save Duncan. Oliver tells Clark he checked into Duncan's family, but the boy's last remaining relative was his mother who passed away a month ago.
Clark goes to Lionel for more information about the affair and he tells Lionel to tell him the whole story for the sake of Lex's safety. Then Lionel shocks Clark by telling him that Duncan's still alive though in a complete vegetative state. He paid Duncan's mother monies while he funded research to try and help the boy recover. Clark suggests due to the past few deaths that perhaps one of the therapies inadvertently worked. Next we see the research facility where Duncan's being treated and a nurse approaches the hapless lad with what appears to be a needle with a kryptonite-based liquid in it and she injects it into his IV tube. Clark goes to the facility to see Duncan, and Lois arrives there simultaneously telling Clark she traced phone calls that Duncan's deceased mother made there every day. They find the door locked but as Lois turns away Clark breaks the lock with his super-strength and they enter.
Lex drops in on Oliver telling him to go back to Star City as he's been nothing but trouble for Lex since his arrival in Metropolis. Oliver makes a crack about Lex beating Duncan and Lex punches Oliver in the mouth. Oliver tells him that's Lex's only free swing and Lex attacks again, but Oliver tosses Lex aside easily. Then as they tussle, the glass penthouse doors on Oliver's balcony start to rattle wildly. Oliver tackles Lex to the floor just as the doors shatter but Lex is knocked out. So he doesn't see the fake clock dial wall open all by itself to reveal Oliver's weapons cache he uses when he's the Green Arrow. One of the arrows then floats in the air and flies across the room into Oliver's right shoulder pinning him to the wall! As this occurs Lois and Clark see the monitors in Duncan's room signifying wild brain activity from Duncan. Clark reads Duncan's charts and sees that he's being injected with a meteor rock based liquid and Lois notices the injections started two days ago and the times they were given coincide with the attacks that've been taking place.
The monitors start going wild and Clark reads the last injection was 20 minutes ago and Lois tells him she thinks he's somehow generating electrical impulses which he's using to create an astral projection of himself to attack his former tormentors. But as she turns back to Clark he's already sped away to Oliver's penthouse. And as he does Oliver's case with the EMP arrows opens up and one of the arrows flies through the air towards Oliver! But Clark speeds into the room and blocks the shot with his invulnerable body and the EMP field flies back into the room and we see a ghostly image of Duncan in the electrical field and the arrow causes it to implode and vanish! At that moment in Duncan's room Lois sees Duncan's body twitch one last time and all the monitors flat-line as the tormented young man finally dies after all these years. Clark speeds back to the research room to see Duncan's body being removed and he tells Lois he went to call Oliver and warn him and Lex about Duncan. Lois tells Clark considering the tragic outcome of the story she's decided to let the matter drop and forget about writing the story.
Oliver is invited to visit Lex and Lex thanks him for saving him in the attack. Oliver tells Lex he regrets the way he treated Lex and Duncan and he's sorry about how it all turned out. Lex goes and confronts his father telling him he wants all the data on Duncan's treatment forwarded to him at once. Clark sees Oliver and tells him he's made bad decisions he regretted later on and Oliver agrees they both share that experience. Chloe stops by and meets Oliver and is impressed by the handsome young billionaire. Oliver leaves and Chloe tells Clark that the satellite photos she got from Queen Industries have turned up several more craters made by possible Phantom Zone escapees. And in the last photo he looks at, Clark is shocked to see that in one of the craters is the image of Raya, Jor-El's assistant on Krypton who helped Clark escape the Phantom Zone and is now apparently on Earth as a result of Clark's escape!

Our Story:
It is six weeks ago and two young men named Lamar and Yance are playing basketball in Oakland California and when they finish their game they're surprised to hear a boom overhead. They look up and see several points of light appear in the sky and one comes crashing to Earth behind a nearby warehouse. Yance stays back while Lamar runs to the spot of collision despite his friends warning not to do so. Lamar runs up to a smoking crater left in the ground by the falling object. He looks into the crater and sees what appears to be a person swaddled in black rags who suddenly hurls himself at Lamar. When Yance runs up to the spot Lamar asks him, "Where is Kal-El?", and when Yance doesn't have an answer, the now-possessed Lamar burns his friend into ashes with a purple blast of radiation then he calmly walks away!
Next we see Dr. Groll, who's been researching the power source from Brainiac's ship for Lex Luthor, meeting Lana late at night in the middle of a storm. The Doctor turns over what's left of the power source and all his research to Lana and tells her he's disappearing because, as he tells Lana, the Luthors don't let people quit when they want to. He also tells her that Lex has been working with the military testing the power source for potential as a weapon. Lana says Lex didn't tell her that and Dr. Groll advises Lana that there's a lot Lex doesn't tell her then he exits the limo and runs to his car. What neither of them knows is that Jimmy Olsen has been standing not far away photographing the entire rendezvous. Chloe visits Clark at the Kent farm and tells him of the incident in California and that nuclear facilities leading in a path towards Smallville are being raided and their nuclear fuel drained. Clark reasons that the being is a Phantom Zone escapee from Dark Thursday and Chloe tells Clark she'll check into local plants.
After Chloe leaves Clark is shocked to see Raya, his father's assistant on Krypton who he was trapped in the Phantom Zone with, walk into the barn. She explains that she found Clark as Jor-El had told her on Krypton about the Kents and Smallville being his choice where to send Clark when Krypton exploded. He tells Raya he's always felt apart from the human race because of his powers and she assures him he's no longer alone. Jimmy goes to the Daily Planet and tells Chloe about the pictures he took and the mysterious suitcase he saw the man give Lana. Chloe tells Jimmy he has no facts to back up his pictures and he's got to dig deeper and Jimmy says he intends to confront Luthor for that. Chloe warns him he's getting into deep waters and Jimmy's feelings are a little hurt by Chloe's protective attitude. When he leaves Chloe turns and is confronted by Lamar who asks her where the archives are kept and Chloe thinks he works there and tells him where they are. Lamar sits in front of a computer screen accessing records impossibly fast until he finds one that points him to Clark!
Lex is furious when he's told that Dr. Groll and all his research and the power source have disappeared. Then Jimmy is led into the room and Lex explains that the only reason he's even talking to him is Chloe's friendship with Lana. But when Jimmy shows Lex the pictures he took of Groll meeting Lex's limo and he asks about the man and the briefcase, Lex has Jimmy thrown out warning him to never return. But before he leaves, Jimmy uses a palm camera to secretly take pictures of the schematic of the power source that Lex had on his desk and is all he has left of the object. Lex confronts Lana about the power source and at first Lana lies but Lex tells her he knows she has the power source and he wants her to return it at once. Back in Smallville Clark and Raya are enjoying a super-speed race with each other all over the state. Clark asks Raya what Jor-El was like and she says he was brave, determined, and had a great heart. He planned every detail of Clark's spaceship down to the baby blankets Clark was wrapped in.
She tells him that our civilization is going to self-destruct just as Krypton's did and Jor-El hoped that his son would help to save Earth from that fate. Clark tells Raya he never started his training as he didn't trust Jor-El and now the Fortress of Solitude is damaged. Then Lamar suddenly appears and tells them his name is Baern and he's there to kill Kal-El since Jor-El died with everyone else on Krypton and his captor's son will now die at his hands. He blasts Clark with purple radiation knocking him clear out of the barn and through a metal tower outside it. Then Baern heads for Raya but she knocks him away with a powerful kick and he stands up looking weakened and speeds away. Raya goes to help Clark who's all right but now they have to find Baern who's run off. Raya tells Clark that Baern feeds off of power sources and the crystal from Jor-El that Raya gave Clark is the only thing that can stop him.
At the Planet, Jimmy tells Chloe of his short interview with Lex but then he shows her the picture he secretly took and he misinterprets the Kryptonian symbols on the power source schematics for Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chloe plays along to throw him off the track. After Jimmy leaves, Clark and Raya come into the room and Chloe shows them Jimmy's pictures and Raya explains that Brainiac's power source could be drained by Baern and make him unstoppable. Back at his mansion Lex walks into his office to find that Lana has returned the power source to him. She tells him that she's worried that he's developing a potentially dangerous weapon and that she feels he must choose between her or this obsession with the box. She goes to leave but when she opens the door Baern is standing there and tells them they have something he needs. Lex tries to stop Baern but he swats Lex away and through a glass coffee table and walks over to the power source and starts to drain it. As he does, purple light fills the room and Lex and Lana run for their lives. Baern drains the fragment of all its power until it simply crumbles into dust and now he has all the power he'll ever need!
Clark goes to the medical center after he finds out Baern attacked Lex and Lana. Lex leaves for an x-ray and Lana demands Clark explain what's going on. Clark shows Lana the schematic and Lana says she knows about the device but the creature somehow burnt it into a pile of ashes. Raya and Clark go to the still darkened Fortress of Solitude and Raya tells Clark the Fortress was the repository for all Kryptonian knowledge and that Clark should embrace his destiny and embark on Jor-El's training he planned for him. She tells Clark she'll try to lure Baern there by using residual power left in the crystals to send Baern a signal that'll be unique to Clark and then they can use the crystal against him when he attacks. At the Kent farm, Martha enters the house to find Baern waiting for Clark and he's about to destroy her when he hears the power signal from the Fortress and speeds off. The crystals at the Fortress fade as Raya uses their residual power to signal Baern and then he super-speeds into the Fortress and attacks Clark.
Clark holds up his father's crystal with the "S" sigil on it and holds off Baern's blast for a second but then he's thrown down from its force. Then Baern turns and blasts a hole straight through Raya with the power he's gained from Brainiac's power source! When Clark sees her fall he picks up his father's crystal and when Baern fires his power at Clark this time, Clark stands his ground and then slowly walks towards Baern as the crystal drains the maniac's power. For a few seconds they stand there with Baern firing away then with a scream his spirit is torn out of Lamar and it and the power he absorbed are pulled into the crystal. Lamar collapses to the ground as Clark rushes to Raya who tells Clark to use the power the crystal has taken from Baern to restore the Fortress and start his training that Jor-El planned for him. When Lamar wakes up in Smallville Medical Center Clark explains that he's in Kansas and Clark found him and the doctors say Lamar will be all right. Lamar tells Clark he remembers nothing of the last six weeks and the last thing he remembers is playing basketball with his friend, but he thanks Clark for helping him.
Jimmy tells Chloe his story was rejected by the editor and that Lex had him fired as a photographer and he's lucky he talked his way back into a job in the archives. Chloe consoles Jimmy with the fact at least he got the attention of a powerful man and someday he'll be a great photographer. Lex tells Lana he knows about her lying to him about the box and Lana tells Lex she's glad the box was destroyed. She wonders if Lex would have chosen her or the box and when Lex says he would have chosen her she's doubtful. Martha Kent tells Clark her sorrow over Raya's death and that she died a hero. Clark explains that Raya helped him feel less alone as she was a fellow Kryptonian and he now understands he is different and its time for him to embrace his destiny and start his training. But he also says he won't start the training until he's caught every Phantom Zone criminal that escaped on Dark Thursday and then he stares at his father's crystal in his hand. And as he does we see the Fortress of Solitude turn slowly from black until its crystals are bright again, and we know that Clark has finally come to terms with his role here on Earth.

Our Story:
Oliver Queen and Lois are at his penthouse and getting very romantic with each other when Lois slips off to get into something more comfortable. But after she walks out of the room Oliver hears glass breaking and a car alarm and shouts for help coming from below his balcony. He changes into his outfit as Green Arrow and heads towards the carjacking where two men are brutalizing the couple whose car they're going to steal. When Green Arrow shows up he shoots one with an arrow and the other thief takes off in the stolen car while the couple flee for safety. Green Arrow takes careful aim and shoots an arrow into the car's dash on a ramp below him causing the thief to crash into other parked vehicles. Meanwhile Lois has returned to Oliver's penthouse wearing only a shirt and high heels but she's chagrined to find that Oliver is gone. Suddenly the other thief who Green Arrow had supposedly incapacitated appears in back of him and as Green Arrow turns towards him the man shoots him in the chest with his gun. The Green Arrow collapses to the parking garage floor with blood pouring from his wound while the man runs off leaving him for dead!
At the Kent farm Martha Kent is stocking plenty of food for Thanksgiving but Clark admits with Pa gone he doesn't feel very thankful this year. Then Lois comes in and tells them forget about Oliver Queen attending as she's peeved over him disappearing on their date last night. Then she shows Clark a Daily Planet story about how a man found the Green Arrow bleeding in a parking garage and when the police showed up there was only a blood stain there and no sign of the Green Arrow. At Lex Luthor's mansion Lana enters to tell Lex she wants to do charitable work with a half-way house called Second Chance that Lex funds but Lex tells her to find another charity as he doesn't want her working with violent criminals fresh out of jail. Lana isn't pleased by his rejection of her choice and leaves the room angry. Clark visits Oliver since he knows he's the Green Arrow and finds him working out in his penthouse office with weights. When he questions him about the shooting incident Oliver denies it was him. Then when Clark notices Oliver's Green Arrow gear right out in the open in the room and tells him he's getting sloppy about his secret identity, Oliver gets angry and tells Clark he's doing nothing to help people with his powers and he's risking his life in the meantime on the streets.
Oliver gets so angry that he literally breaks a glass of water he's holding in his hand and cuts up his hand badly, then throws Clark out of his penthouse. As Clark leaves in the elevator, he uses his x-ray vision to see that Oliver has taken a syringe out of his desk and he injects a strange liquid into arm. When Oliver takes the rag off of his hand somehow his hand has stopped bleeding and has miraculously healed! Clark visits Lois and tells her about Oliver's drug problem and she insists she's going to help him despite Clark's warnings about Oliver's aggressive behavior. Oliver is seeing a Doctor Black and she's the one who has developed the drug that's called RL65, and Oliver tells the Doctor he used it and it works wonders. But Dr. Black warns him that the mice she's been testing it on are showing irrational and angry behavior and she warns Oliver to stop using it. He gets irritated at her and grabs several vials of the drug and stalks out of her lab with them. Lionel Luthor drops in on Martha Kent as she's preparing the Thanksgiving meal and tells her he won't be attending even though Martha tries to convince him. She tells him that he's a part of her life now and she's thankful for that and Lionel replies that means a lot to him and that she means a great deal to him. They have a romantic moment where they nearly kiss, but Lionel stammers an apology for nearly kissing Martha Kent and rushes away.
Clark goes to Chloe at the Daily Planet and she promises to have her biochemistry student friend at Metropolis Univeristy check out the remains of the drug in a needle that Clark has secretly taken from Oliver. Then Lana comes in to meet Chloe for lunch and Lana and Clark share an awkward moment as Chloe rushes Clark out the door. Lana wants Chloe to check out the Second Chance halfway house that Lex has been supporting but as she talks about it she suddenly faints! Chloe helps Lana up and she quickly recovers and asks Chloe to keep the incident to herself. Oliver is dressed as the Green Arrow and he's in his penthouse watching video that he took with his high tech dark glasses that shows the man's face that shot him. But he's not paying attention to his surroundings and Lois has entered the room and seeing the Green Arrow, she picks up one of Oliver's hand weights and strikes him hard in the back ribs with it. His response is to turn and violently strike Lois so hard she flies through the glass desktop nearby and lands on the ground badly cut. She tells the Green Arrow she's calling 911 and he leaves before anyone arrives and we see Lois has been cut on her back as she tells the operator to hurry with an ambulance for her!
Lana has a Doctor examine her and she tells him she's fainted three times in the last month and has had sharp headaches and he tells her with a few more tests he should be able to diagnose her. Martha Kent drops into Luthorcorp to visit Lionel and tells him that she feels there's something between them but she wants to hold off exploring any further for now but she still insists he attend Thanksgiving dinner at the farm and he agrees. Clark visits Lois at the hospital and learns she'll be all right but she tells Clark she hit Green Arrow hard enough with the weight to break ribs and he's probably hurt worse then she. Clark asks if she's heard from Oliver and she admits she hasn't and that she's worried he's either doing drugs or is somehow mixed up with the Green Arrow. But the Green Arrow is out hunting the man who shot him and when he finds him he's just robbed an apartment and Green Arrow heads him off but then the man simply jumps several stories down to another rooftop and gets up with no injuries.
The Green Arrow catches up to him and starts to beat him and coerce some facts from him. It seems the man lives at the Second Chance halfway house that Lex funds, and that Dr. Black has been injecting the criminals there with the same drug that he's using! We see Dr. Black destroying vials of the RL65 drug in her lab when Lex stops in and reminds her she's being paid by him behind Oliver Queen's back and she insists she's not going to produce anymore of the drug for Lex or Oliver, but Lex tells her he won't allow her to stop. Chloe tells Clark that her science student friend has analyzed the drug and that it's some kind of tissue regenerator which explains its healing properties. But she also says that the drug produces violent behavior in whoever takes it and then she tells Clark she's found out that a Dr. Pamela Clark is its creator. Clark and Chloe go to Dr. Clark's lab but they find the place has been ransacked and they also find Dr. Clark has been killed and there's a green arrow stuck in the wall so they think that Green Arrow is the killer.
Then Clark's x-ray vision spots hidden files that reveal that Dr. Black has been giving the drug to convicts who live at the halfway house and they deduct that Lex had been using the Doctor behind Oliver Queen's back. Clark's worried that Lex may be the Green Arrow's next target so he goes to Lex's mansion but he finds Lana sitting there and she's obviously upset about something but she won't tell Clark about it and she insists he leave. Lex is about to leave his office when his bodyguard is shot by the Green Arrow with a taser arrow which knocks the man out. The Green Arrow tells Lex he knows what he's been doing to the prisoners at Second Chance and that he thinks Lex had Dr. Black killed. Lex denies it but Green Arrow doesn't believe him and insists that Lex sign a document which will split his fortune up and give it to 50 charities on the paper. Lex reaches under his desk for a gun and then the two men are in a stand-off; one with a hand crossbow and the other with a hand gun. Lex dares him to try and outshoot a gun and then both men pull their respective triggers. Lex is hit in the chest with a crossbow bolt and falls to the floor at the same moment that Green Arrow falls after being hit in the chest with a bullet!
The Green Arrow takes out a needle of RL65 and injects it into himself and starts to heal as Clark arrives and sees Lex dying from the crossbow bolt stuck in his chest. He tells Oliver he's killed Lex and asks where the RL65 drug is and Oliver tells Clark that Lex took it all from the lab and he should let Lex die as the world would be better off without him in it. Clark breaks open Lex's briefcase and finds the drug and he pulls the bolt out of Lex's chest and starts to inject him with the healing drug. When Oliver tries to stop him Clark knocks him 15 feet across the room with his tremendous strength, and then he injects Lex with the drug. For a few seconds it looks like its too late and Clark tells Oliver he's now a killer and we see that fact finally sink into Oliver that the drug has distorted his thinking. But suddenly Lex gasps and come awake but by the time he sits up recovered, there's nothing in the room but the bolt from Green Arrow's crossbow lying there.
When Clark visits Oliver the next day, Oliver tells Clark that he realized that Clark would never kill anyone and he should be thankful for the abilities he already has and he makes Clark feel the same way when he hears that. Then Clark tells Oliver to come to his house for Thanksgiving and then he tells him he has no right to stand between Oliver and Lois if they're meant to be with each other, secret identities or not. Lana comes to see Chloe and when Chloe tries to tell her about Lex's involvement with the halfway house prisoners Lana cuts her off and tells her she's pregnant and Chloe and Lana embrace as the two friends try to absorb this shocking news. Then Thanksgiving finally arrives and as Chloe sets the table she tells Clark that the police found out that it was one of the halfway house convicts who killed Dr. Black and that they'll probably never be able to prove Lex's connection to the whole affair. Then the doorbell rings and when Lois answers it she's surprised to see Oliver with flowers for her and an apology for his recent actions.
When Clark asks Chloe what Lana was upset about the other day Chloe denies anything was wrong and deliberately keeps the news of Lana's pregnancy from Clark as Lana made her promise to. Oliver tells Lois he'll never get involved with drugs again and the two hug as Oliver tells Lois he's sorry that he ever hurt her. And as dinner starts, we see Lionel, Ma, Clark, Chloe, Lois and Oliver all enjoying the blessings in their lives and Clark announces that he's grateful for his Mother and Father whose faith in him allowed him to have faith in himself. As they enjoy the meal and each other's company, we then see Lana and Lex at his mansion separated by a long dinner table and Lex asks Lana why she hasn't spoken all night but Lana doesn't tell Lex what she's learned. And all Lex can do is make a toast and they both raise their glasses to each other. But it is only Lex who drinks, and Lana simply puts her glass back on the table with more then the length of wooden table between them. Now a great truth separates them, and only time will show what that means to them both.

Our Story:
Lex comes into Lana's bedroom late one night to find her still awake. He tells her not to doubt him and that she has no idea how much she means to him. Suddenly an alarm blares and an armed security team bursts into the room telling Lex it's a code 142. Lex and Lana are hurried to his library/office where the panic room awaits them. But as they cross the library to the panic room suddenly Lex spasms in mid-step, seems to waver into static and disappears! The security team rushes Lana into the room despite what's happened and slam the door shut. The next second Lex jumps up from the floor calling Lana's name but there's no one there. He tries to leave the room but every time he does there's a burst of static and Lex ends up back in his library. Then when he reaches to use the phone his hand turns into a static wave and passes through the phone. Somehow Lex has become a being composed of electromagnetic static and is immaterial in our world and trapped in his library!
Chloe calls Clark to the Daily Planet and tells him a cargo ship's crew has been found slaughtered and their last stop was an island where a meteor hit the day Clark escaped from the Phantom Zone so he figures it's another Phantom Zone escapee and he must go to Seattle where the ship's being towed. But when Lana calls Chloe and tells her what happened to Lex, Chloe asks Clark for help with Lex but Clark tells her the priority must be the super-criminal on the loose and he'll help when he gets back. Lex's father Lionel has his security man reporting to him that they can find no sign of Lex when Lana comes into the office and she tells him what she saw and about the code being called a 142. Lionel denies knowing what it means but Lana tells him how she saw Lex disappear into static and then she leaves. Lionel immediately calls for a Dr. Chavez in Genome technology after Lana is gone, so it's obvious he suspects something.
Clark arrives at the dock where the coroner has already erected a tent to process what's left of the crew's bodies. Clark walks into the tent and is mistaken for a first year medical student that was sent to help process the scene. The women shows Clark that there are nothing but small boxes that hold the bodies because none of them have any skeletons as they've all been ripped out somehow! As Clark slips her ID badge into his pocket, she tells him that the last two victims were dockworkers and that whatever did the killing is now on land. Chloe visits Lana at Lex's mansion and as they talk in the library they are unaware that Lex is in the room with them unseen. Chloe tries to hack into Lex's laptop but can't come up with a password even though Lex is standing there telling them it's Lana's birthday he uses as a password. Chloe then uploads his hard drive and tells Lana she'll get the surveillance footage off of it when she downloads it back at the Planet and figures out the password. As Chloe works, Lana talks about all she wants is to see Lex again and at the same time he's telling her he loves her so much, but he can't be heard.
As Chloe and Lana leave, suddenly a man in glasses appears and asks Lex how it feels to lose his life the way he did and that Lex used to watch him through an observation window. Lex says he recognizes the man as the 142 and leaps at him but the man disappears into static leaving Lex alone in the library! At the Daily Planet, Jimmy is questioning why Chloe cares about Lex being missing and she tells him it's because Lana is her friend and Lana truly cares for Lex. Lana arrives and Chloe shows her that she figured out it was her birthday that was the password and then shows her the security footage and it does show a strange blurred image right in front of Lex just before he disappeared. Then Lana gets a call from the man we saw taunting Lex and he tells Lana to secretly meet him if she wants information about Lex so Lana goes back to Smallville.
They meet in an alley in back of the Talon coffee shop and the man tells Lana she'll never see Lex again if she doesn't do what he says. He tells her he made Lex disappear and that there is a secret lab called 33.1 in the Luthorcorp building where people who've been infected by meteor rocks are experimented on. He was a patient at Belle Reve sanitarium but when he was released he and others like him were spirited away to the lab for Lex's research.
He tells Lana he has a pass to the lab and he escaped and now needs Lana to come to see the lab and then when she exposes what Lex is up to that will be the proof he needs to convince people about what's going on. He promises he'll then release Lex and Lana agrees to go with the man despite her misgivings. Clark is still at the docks using the coroner's ID badge to find out that whatever did all the killing was hiding in a ship container and broke out of it with his bare hands. They found human bone marrow inside the container and think that's what the being feeds on. At another part of the dock a policeman follows a blood trail and suddenly a huge muscled man clad in rags grabs him and literally lifts him over his head and then breaks his back on his knee. He then slams the body on the dock and rips out the man's spine and starts to feed!
Lana is in the elevator with the man she met and they're heading up to floor 33.1 and the man tells her he was an electrician on a radio tower when the meteors struck last year and he gained the power to move through alternate frequencies and go to planes of existence no one even knows exist. The elevator stops at 33.1, but when they exit it there's nothing there but an empty floor even though the man insists that 24 hours ago there were labs and holding cells with dozens of people in them. Lana asks him where Lex is and he replies where he can't hurt anybody and then he disappears in a burst of static leaving Lana alone.
He reappears in Lex's library and wants to know where the other patients from lab 33.1 are but Lex insists he doesn't know. So the man tells Lex he'll bring Lana there and he'll use violence if he has to, then he disappears again in a burst of static. Lana and Chloe visit Jimmy who's a ham radio buff and he explains that by watching the security footage and mixing frequencies he's heard Lex in the room. He then plays the footage and what at first sounds like static after Jimmy modulates it Lana hears Lex saying how much he loves her. Jimmy then says there's a frequency loop in the room and they could probably talk to Lex if they try.
Clark is on the dock and he finds glasses and hears a cry for help and we see the Phantom Zone criminal holding his next victim overhead when Clark super-speeds in and grabs the man telling him to run which he does. Then Clark tries using the "S" sigil crystal from his father Jor-El, but the man tells him he escaped from the Zone but he's not a phantom. Then he throws Clark hundreds of feet through the air straight through the wall of an elevated crane's control booth! Clark gets up and makes a super leap back down to the ground but the killer is already gone. Chloe has hacked into Luthorcorp's computers when suddenly all her files disappear. Then Lionel Luthor walks into the room and tells her that Luthorcorp takes hacking very seriously and she just got a taste of the results. She insists Lionel tell her about lab 33.1, but he denies any knowledge of it and leaves. But Jimmy comes in and says he thinks that by using radio frequency triangulation he can break Lex out of the frequency prison he's trapped in.
Lana returns to Lex's library and she tells him she now knows he's there and that she misses him and loves him very much and he replies he loves her too even though she can't hear him. Then she says she wants him there for the birth of their baby and Lex is happily surprised to hear Lana's pregnant. But then with a hiss of static, the man from 33.1 appears and grabs Lana and holds a knife to her throat. He then tells Lex to tell him what he did with all the patients in the lab or he'll kill Lana! Just as he's about to cut Lana, Jimmy comes from behind and hits the man with some of his radio equipment asking him what frequency Lex is hidden in. But the man starts to turn to static and disappear, but this time Lana grabs him as he does and they both disappear at once from in front of Chloe and Jimmy! Jimmy hurriedly sets up his equipment hunting for the frequency that will now free both Lex and Lana.
Lana and the man are now with Lex and he and Lex struggle and fight for control of the knife that Lex knocks out of his hand. Jimmy frantically searches through multiple frequencies to release the man's prisoners as they do. The man grabs the knife and thrusts at Lex and Lex knocks him down and then he forces the knife towards the man and plunges it into his chest killing him. Then Lex runs to Lana who's just waking up and they happily reunite with a kiss when Lana tells Lex it's true she's pregnant. Then Jimmy finally jams the right frequency and as static appears in all the room's electrical equipment and then with a burst of electricity Lex, Lana, and the dead man all materialize back in our world! Its night on the waterfront where Clark's hunting the alien killer who suddenly confronts him telling him he's going to enjoy tasting Clark's blood. As he speaks, Clark sees someone super-speed in back of the man but he can't make him out he's moving so fast. Then the killer lifts Clark in the air over his head and then someone speeds up behind the killer and we see the criminal gasp his last breath and fall dead to the ground!
Clark looks at the dead killer's back and there's the imprint of a huge hand in it. He then looks around on the dock and sees a man standing a hundred feet away whose features he can't make out in the dark. When Clark says it was he who saved him, the man's eyes glow eerily and then he leaps into the air and floats there for a second before flying off so fast he leaves a red streak in the air behind him as he disappears over the city as Clark can only watch in amazement. Then he looks down on the ground and sees of all things the remains of an Oreo cookie! Lex allows Lana to let Jimmy and Chloe look at floor 33.1 but all they find are high power cables with nothing attached to them. Chloe insists Lex was up to something there but Lana is too enamored of Lex to believe he could do anything wrong. At that moment, Lex is confronting his father insisting he tell him what he did with lab 33.1 and where are its patients now. Lionel Luthor tells Lex he wisely had it moved to a top secret location before Luthorcorp was connected to any wrongdoing and he'll only tell Lex where it is now if Lex consents to make his father a full partner in Luthorcorp again. We see by the look on Lex's face he's considering the offer but we don't get to hear his answer to his father.
Back at the Kent farm Chloe asks Clark what happened and he tells her that someone with powers he can only imagine killed the criminal. When Chloe presses for more information Clark refuses and she tells him that he can't carry the whole world on his shoulders and even heroes need help now and then. After she leaves Clark looks down on the floor of his barn loft and he's surprised to once again find the remains of an Oreo cookie. Whoever his strange benefactor is, he clearly has a taste for that particular cookie. Back at his mansion Lex is telling Lana how happy she's made him. When Lana asks about 33.1, Lex denies it ever existed but Lana tells Lex she would understand if it did because she considers meteor people dangerous. Then Lex takes Lana into the library and he's had it decorated with roses and candles everywhere. Amid all this beauty they walk up to a table with a silver bell on it and Lex opens the bell to reveal a huge diamond ring. He tells her he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her, and then he asks her to marry him. As the scene fades we can only wonder what Lana's answer will be!

Our Story:
Several men are working in a field tilling the soil by hand and with shovels and the conditions are so dry and dusty that one man collapses for lack of water. Two young men, Javier and Francisco, run to the man's aid and the farmer who runs them grudgingly agrees to give the collapsed man water and then scolds Javier and Francisco telling them to get back to work and never mind the sick man. Javier pleads with Francisco to try and run away with him that night as the farmer is virtually keeping them as slaves and not paying them or barely feeding them as they are all illegal immigrants and he's exploiting them with that fact. That night Javier and Francisco run for their lives through the corn rows as they make their break for freedom. But something that roars like a great beast starts to chase them as they approach the road. Javier makes it to the road but his friend Francisco suddenly disappears into the ground in a blast of dust and Javier having seen it runs down the road in terror.
At Lex Luthor's mansion, Lana enters the room and they both talk about how nervous each has been since Lex proposed to Lana. Lex tells Lana to take her time answering his proposal of marriage and then he sends her off for an art exhibit in Amsterdam in his private jet as a gift to her. Clark enters his barn on the Kent farm to find Javier washing himself in the barn sink and after convincing the boy not to run, Clark notices how roughed up the boy is and convinces him to come into the house to wash up and eat. As he feeds Javier, Clark is told how Javier was smuggled over the border in hopes of finding his mother who works in Granville in a laundry, but that Jed NcNally wouldn't let he and his friend leave his farm once they got there. He uses calling immigration on the illegal immigrants as leverage to enslave Javier and other men into staying on the farm in terrible conditions. Then Javier tells Clark of his escape and how Francisco virtually disappeared last night, and how a necklace his mother gave him to wear to protect him must have saved him.
Clark goes to the McNally farm under the pretext that he needs a tractor part and while Mr. McNally looks for it in his barn Clark asks nearby workers if they've seen Francisco. One tells Clark "Arbol grande cinco", but Clark doesn't speak Spanish and doesn't understand. Clark enters the house to find Martha back early from her Senatorial duties in Topeka and then a Deputy Morales shows up at the door telling the Kents that he's searching for a Latino boy spotted on the highway last night. Clark goes along with the Deputy while he searches the barn but nothing is found. After the Deputy leaves, Clark spots him using his x-ray vision hiding in the bottom of a metal cabinet. He tells Javier about what the man said and Javier tells Clark it means big tree five and that there's a big willow tree on the farm. Clark tells him he'll check it out when suddenly Martha Kent shows up behind then in the barn upset that Clark has hidden Javier from the authorities.
Martha wants to call the Sheriff about Javier but Clark reminds her that he's an illegal immigrant too and she forged his adoption papers. He asks Martha to hold off for 24 hours and says he'll take Javier to Chloe's to stay. Clark goes back to the McNally farm and talks to two men under the big willow tree. One translates that the ground swallowed Francisco and Clark uses his x-ray vision to scan under the earth. To his horror he sees dozens of bodies buried underground! Back at Chloe's, she and Javier search the internet and find there are three laundry services in Granville when Jimmy shows up for a date he had with Chloe. When he sees Javier is there and they are introduced he changes his plans and orders Pizza to be delivered. Clark arrives and tells Javier he hasn't found Francisco and then he takes Chloe aside and tells her of his gruesome find at the McNally farm and that he's called the Sheriff. Then Chloe informs Clark that after the last meteor shower virtually destroyed the McNally farm that Luthorcorp bought up the property so Clark heads for Lex's mansion.
Clark confronts Lex with what he's found and tells Lex he holds him responsible for all the deaths on the farm but Lex denies any knowledge about McNally, his abuse of the workers, and of any deaths taking place there and Clark and Lex part with their now common hatred for each other grown even larger. Jimmy talks to Chloe telling her he thinks Clark doesn't like him because he feels Clark is jealous of Chloe and he being in a relationship. Chloe reassures Jimmy that she and Clark are just friends but while they talk, Javier leaves by the window having overheard about what Clark found on the farm. Chloe and Jimmy run outside in time to see Javier hopping into the back of a passing truck and he disappears into the night. Clark returns and finds out Javier is missing and may have overheard what he found. The next day, Clark returns to the McNally farm where teams of men in biohazard suits are unearthing the many bodies there. Mr. NcNally is being taken away in handcuffs and Clark confronts him about his crime but McNally declares he had to save his farm and only livelihood and then tells Clark he blames him and Javier for his arrest. Then with a blast of dust he disappears into the ground leaving only a small circle of dirt behind him!
A Dr. Bauer enters Lex's library and tells him about McNally's escape while Lex watches footage of the grisly find at McNally's farm on his laptop. Bauer explains he knew that McNally had gained the ability to displace minerals and burrow through the earth like a mole at high speed but he never knew the man was killing workers. Lex angrily explains he spent millions on McNally as a test subject and he leaves the library telling Bauer to find him. At the Daily Planet, Chloe explains to Clark she's discovered that McNally was buried for days under kryptonite after the last meteor shower and that would explain his ability to burrow through earth and how the radiation made him madman enough to kill any workers who tried to escape his farm. Then a police scanner Chloe's using to monitor Granville police picks up a report that a young Hispanic male is being held at a bus stop and Clark thinks it's Javier and super-speeds towards the town. A bus driver has found Javier in the luggage compartment of his bus and is holding him for the authorities when Clark speeds up and tells the man he'll take care of Javier. The driver turns for a second at the sound of arriving police's sirens and when he looks back, Javier and Clark have disappeared. Clark speeds with Javier in his arms to his truck, and after Javier promises to never speak of Clark's abilities to anyone, they enter the truck and head back for Smallville.
Chloe and Jimmy find Javier's mother at one of the Granville laundries and they tell her they will take her to Javier. Clark gets the call that Chloe and Jimmy have Javier's mother and he tells Javier that his mother is heading for the Kent farm. Then he admits to Javier that Francisco's body has been one of the bodies identified and an upset Javier tells Clark to stop the truck and he leaps out of it. But they are just outside the McNally farm and Javier has unknowingly run back into the lap of danger. Javier tells Clark he should have given the necklace from his mother to Francisco and he blames himself for his friend's death. But suddenly Clark disappears under the earth in a blast of dirt after McNally grabs him from underground! They burrow through the earth at fantastic speed towards Javier who flees in fear. But just before the struggle reaches Javier, McNally is blasted out of the ground and falls in front of Javier unconscious. And a dirt-covered Clark is standing there and Javier realizes that McNally was no match for his powerful friend. Clark reaches down and picks up the necklace Javier's mother had given him that he dropped to the ground and hands it back to him and the two head for the Kent farm.
Clark brings Javier into the kitchen and finally after two years of separation a mother and son are happily reunited. Martha Kent tells them she's using her position as Senator to try and get legal status for Javier and his mother and she tells Clark she'll risk her senatorial position for this cause as she learned from Clark that you have to chance risks sometimes for extraordinary people. Lana returns from Amsterdam telling Lex how she loved all the privileges she enjoyed due to Lex and all his money. She tells Lex she now realizes that money brings power and she wants to use that power to help people like the immigrants that McNally abused and Lex can only smile at the irony of her statement. At the Planet, Jimmy tells Clark he wants to be friends with him and not enemies due to his dating Chloe. Clark has no idea what Jimmy's talking about but he plays along as he likes Jimmy and of course has no objections to Jimmy and Chloe dating. Back in his barn in Smallville, Clark's working when Lana comes in telling him that Luthorcorp intends to sponsor all the workers from the McNally farm with jobs and then hopefully get them all legal status.
Clark tells Lana that Lex is just doing it to cover up his company's role in the scandal and he shouldn't send Lana as his messenger. Lana takes offense at Clark's remark and tells him the idea was hers and she is nobody's messenger and she walks out of the barn angry and the schism between she and Clark seems to becoming greater everyday she spends with Lex. Then we see Lex and Dr. Bauer talking over a bed holding Jed McNally and Bauer tells Lex the man is trapped in a low-level coma and Lex merely responds with, "Put him with the others". Then he walks out of the room and down a hallway lined with cells and hands reaching out to Lex as if pleading for freedom. Lex continues walking and ignores all the trapped people and as the door behind him swings closed we see the number 33.1, and know that that's the private lab we've heard mentioned before where Lex was keeping meteor affected people for experimentation. So now we know that Lex is slipping farther and farther into evil, and there can be no good end to the direction he's traveling in.

Our Story:
The Daily Planet's gossip reporter Linda Lake walks up to Chloe at her desk and tells Chloe to make copies for her and Chloe is immediately offended and reminds Linda she's a reporter and not a copygirl and Lake scoffs at Chloe telling her she's not on her level as a reporter. Chloe points out to Lake she doesn't care for what she calls journalism as she's just ruined a local ex-baseball player with her expose on his use of steroids. Lake exits the Planet and is confronted by the man she ruined in her column and he tells her he wants revenge on her for her story. The man chases Lake until she runs up to a nearby fountain and somehow disappears. He runs over to the fountain and peers into it when suddenly the water seemingly comes alive and grabs him holding him down under the shallow water until finally he drowns in the fountain pool!
Lana visits Chloe at the office and tells her that Lex has proposed and she's hesitating to answer and admits that when she was with Clark if he had asked her to marry him she would have answered without hesitation. Chloe advises Lana to talk to Clark if she still has feelings for him and they leave, but as they do the water cooler nearby bubbles strangely as they exit. Lois meets Jimmy in an alley and she pays Jimmy cash for his pictures of the Green Arrow and it turns out none of them show his face but one reveals that Green Arrow has recently been wounded on his left arm near his shoulder. The next day Clark runs into Chloe at the Talon coffee shop as she sees Linda Lake's column that day claiming that Lex and Lana's proposal is on hold due to Clark and Lake even quotes Lana's words verbatim about her hesitation over Clark. Chloe tells Clark that she thinks Lana still loves him and he's determined to talk to Lana before she says yes to Lex and ruins her life.
That morning Lex brings Lana breakfast in bed and shows her the article with her words about her feelings for Clark. Lex tells Lana he's upset over Lana saying these things and then one of Lex's men comes in telling Lex he has a visitor. The visitor is Clark and he and Lex argue over Lana. Clark claims Lex is playing Lana for a fool and Lex tells Clark Lana will say yes to him because she's pregnant by Lex which shocks Clark. Jimmy talks to Chloe about the baseball player's death claiming it's suspicious that the man drowned in a pool two feet deep. In her office, Linda Lake is upset at the designer of her office that's being renovated and she slams the phone down in disgust when she finds out that construction is running late and then she throws the workmen out of her office. Lex enters the office and gives Lake a blank check telling her he'll pay any amount she wants for information on Clark and Lana.
Oliver Queen, who we know is secretly the Green Arrow, is working out with Lois Lane doing Yoga. Suddenly they start to get intimate in the middle of the session when Lois notices that Oliver has a wound right where she saw one on the arm of the Green Arrow in Jimmy's pictures. She runs out of Oliver's apartment and as she descends in the elevator she opens the packet of pictures and confirms that the wound is indeed right where she saw it in the shots Jimmy took. Lois goes to see Clark who's just returned from talking to Lex and she tells him she thinks that Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow. Lois tells Clark about the wound she saw and then asks Clark's help in proving Queen is indeed the Green Arrow. Clark goes to Chloe telling her he's upset over her hiding the fact of Lana's pregnancy and Chloe tells him she's tired of everyone telling her their secrets when she's hiding the truth about Clark for him all this time. As they talk about Clark being from another planet the water in Chloe's bath overflows and seems to creep just under the bathroom door as Clark and Chloe talk.
The water seems to then slide back under the door rising upwards until it takes form into that of the gossip reporter Linda Lake who smiles over what she's just heard! Lana meets Chloe outside the Daily Planet and tells her how mad she is over Chloe telling Linda Lake what she said and was printed in the paper but Chloe tells Lana she doesn't know how Lake found out. Then Chloe tells Lana that Clark tried to see her about Lex's proposal and she also tells Lana that she and Clark need to talk and settle matters between themselves. Then Chloe shows Lana a story she found in the Planet's archives about Linda Lake getting caught in the second meteor shower that hit Smallville and says it's time to find out what's really going on. Clark meets with Lois and tells her he think she's right about Oliver being the Green Arrow and he may have a plan that will prove it. That night Lois arranges for Clark to come over Oliver's and watch a movie with her and Oliver. Once Clark arrives she feigns running out of ice as an excuse to leave Oliver's and once she's outside she calls Oliver on her cell phone pretending she's being mugged by some men.
But as she hangs up she's suddenly confronted by real muggers who surround her! But Jimmy jumps out from behind a dumpster to defend her as he's been waiting there with his camera to help Lois catch photos of the Green Arrow saving her. He tries to defend Lois but the men are two much for him and they grab Lois and Jimmy just as the Green Arrow arrives telling them to release their victims. The Green Arrow grabs one of the hoodlums and throws him across the alley like a rag doll and then cocks an arrow in his bow and the hoods run away. Then Lois walks up and thanks Green Arrow by kissing him passionately calling him Oliver while Jimmy shoots pictures with his camera. But then Oliver shows up at the scene asking Lana why she's calling the Green Arrow Oliver. Jimmy keeps shooting as the Green Arrow suddenly disappears in a flash leaving them all shocked at his exit. The Green Arrow runs around a building's corner to drop his hood and we see its Clark wearing the costume and his expression tells us he's surprisingly enjoyed his kiss with Lois.
As this is happening, Chloe and Lana have set up webcams in Chloe's office laptop and in Lana's car to catch Linda Lake in her office hoping to reveal her new abilities. But then Chloe brings up on her laptop what will be Linda's story in tomorrow's Daily Planet. Chloe is shocked to see the story is about her and Clark's conversation the night before and it reveals that Clark is really an alien! Before Chloe can react further Linda Lake enters her office talking about the story. Lana catches enough of the conversation to hear that Chloe's been hiding some great secret about Clark but before Lake can blurt out that Clark's an alien, Chloe picks up a workman's hammer and smashes her laptop before Lana can overhear that fact. Then Chloe tells Lake she knows she's gained some sort of power from when she was a small time reporter and the day of the second meteor shower her news van crashed into Crater Lake which is where she gained her power.
When Chloe accuses Lake of murdering the baseball player, Lake picks up a workman's nail gun he left there during the renovation and starts firing nails at Chloe trying to kill her. Chloe runs for the elevator and, luckily for Chloe, Linda Lake shoots at her with the nail gun again but it's now empty. Chloe runs from the building with Lake chasing after her across the plaza and Linda tackles Chloe and the two girls fight furiously. Lake grabs a sidewalk lamp from the park and tries to use it to stab Chloe but Chloe kicks her away and right into the path of Lana who's pulling up in her car. As Lake impacts with Lana's windshield, she explodes into a wave of water disappearing with a splash over Lana's car. Lana gets out helping Chloe up from the ground and Chloe reassures Lana that Lake's gone but we see the water on Lana's car form into a small stream which flows into a nearby street drain. Chloe returns to her office on the Daily Planet and Jimmy enters claiming he's got pictures of the Green Arrow and that he saw the man exhibit super-strength dealing with the muggers and then he says the Green Arrow sped away in the blink of an eye.
But when he pulls up the pictures from his camera onto a computer screen, he sees the shots of the Green Arrow and Lois kissing but the shot he took of him that would reveal his face shows nothing as the Green Arrow sped away faster then the camera could shoot his face clearly. Chloe knows only Clark could be that fast and she figures out it was Clark covering for the Green Arrow to fool Lois. She calls Clark to her and Lois' apartment over the Talon coffee shop the next day and the two ladies tell Clark about last night's encounter with the Green Arrow and that Lois now knows that Oliver couldn't be the masked vigilante. And Lois says she knew he wasn't the Green Arrow before Oliver showed up because the Green Arrow kisses much better then Oliver Queen which surprises Clark as Chloe smiles at him knowing the truth about who kissed Lois last night. Lana meets Chloe later at her office at the Planet and asks her what secret she's concealing about Clark but Chloe nervously denies that there is any secret with Lana obviously not believing her.
Lana goes to the Kent farm and confronts Clark asking him to confide in her and trust her with his secret but Clark says it doesn't matter now that he knows that Lana is pregnant by Lex. Lana tells Clark he's still a part of her life and they need to come to terms with each other. But Clark can't open up to Lana due to her pregnancy, and he tells her that he hopes Lex makes her happy and Lana leaves. She returns to Lex's mansion where Lex anxiously confesses he's nervous about what Lana's answer to his proposal will be. Lana tells Lex she still loves Clark but she loves Lex too. He tells her he's done things that haunt him and that Lana is the best thing in his life. Then Lana tells Lex that because he's been so honest with her she now knows she can trust him and she will marry him. The two happily embrace and as we see Lex's face it shows not joy at Lana's answer, but a look of triumph over winning Lana over at last.

Our Story:
Chloe is talking to Clark on the phone while he's looking for Phantom Zone escapees and Chloe hangs up just as a Dr. Caselli enters her office. She tells the Doctor she knows he's been transferring patients with special abilities out of Belle Reve psychiatric hospital but she wants to know if they're being sent to Luthorcorp's 33.1 lab. At first he denies all, but when Chloe gets too close to the truth he pulls a gun and tells her he couldn't resist all the money he was bribed with. Suddenly a red flash speeds through the room disarming the Doctor and knocking him out. Chloe turns to see Clark and she thanks him for saving her but Clark says he arrived after the event. They look across the room to see a young man in a red hooded sweatshirt who super-speeds out of the Daily Planet and he and Clark run around Metropolis but Clark cannot catch him. They stop at a street basketball court and the young man toys with Clark until he finally stops and talks to him. And Clark is happy to see the young super-speedster in none other then his friend Bart Allen!
The next day Chloe and Clark talk in his barn about the Doctor being bailed out by one of Lex's lawyers when Bart suddenly appears. Chloe leaves as Clark asks Bart what he's doing there, and Bart tells Clark he's mended his ways and has an honest job now but he's still elusive about what he's up to. At his office in Metropolis, Oliver Queen and Lois are kissing when his cell phone rings and he tells Lois he has to leave. When Lois complains that it happens all the time Oliver promises to make it up to Lois by taking her on a vacation to Monte Carlo so she rushes off to pack just as Oliver gets a text message that says, "Game on." Lionel Luthor comes to Lex's mansion to warn him that the 33.1 project is being compromised by break-ins at Luthorcorp plants, but Lex reassures his father that all is well and shows him a picture of a red blur that Lex says "is faster then a speeding bullet." Lex then tells Lionel he intends to capture whoever it is as his next test subject for 33.1 experimentation.
As the Luthors leave Bart speeds into the room unseen and plugs a device into Lex's laptop which downloads information from it as he calls someone telling them he'll meet them at a rendezvous point. He speeds to an alley in Metropolis where Green Arrow lowers himself down from a rooftop to meet with Bart. Clark visits Lionel Luthor to talk about Dr. Caselli but he's surprised when the elder Luthor shows him the blurry image leaving a Luthorcorp plant in Mexico. Clark tells Lionel it wasn't him in the picture as Lionel knows of his abilities but he won't answer when Lionel demands to know who it is. The real culprit is Bart who at that moment has just nearly cleaned out the Kent kitchen as Martha Kent's just fed him lunch. He cleans up for Martha Kent in the blink of an eye as she leaves for a meeting and Clark comes in demanding that Bart tell him why he's breaking into Luthorcorp facilities. Bart tells Clark he can't explain why and when Clark gets insistent Bart speeds out of the room before Clark can stop him.
Lois is busy packing in the apartment she and Chloe share when Clark enters as Lois runs out for a minute. Clark tells Chloe the truth about Bart being the speedster who saved her and asks her help in tracking him down. She hacks into Bart's cell phone records and discovers that Bart's been calling Oliver Queen frequently, so Clark goes to Metropolis to see him. As he does Bart has broken into another Luthorcorp lab and is about to steal information when he's shocked into unconsciousness. As he lays there Lex enters the room with a tactical squad of armed men and gloats over Bart proclaiming he doesn't look so fast now! Clark confronts Oliver about Bart working for him and Oliver explains that Bart's been helping him to stop Luthor from using his 33.1 labs to create an army of people with super-powers and start a war using them. Then Oliver tells Clark that Bart's disappeared and Clark rightly figures that Lex has captured him. But Clark is surprised when Arthur Curry, the man who can swim faster then any creature on Earth, and Victor Stone the cyborg walk in the room saying they're working with Oliver too!
Bart awakens in Lex's 33.1 lab in a circular glass cell with pressure plates designed to shock him if he stays still for even a second, and when Bart refuses to answer any of Lex's questions Lex activates the plates forcing Bart to continuously run round and round at super-speed. Victor and Arthur explain to Clark that they've been working for months with Oliver who tells Clark he recruited Bart after meeting him in Star City while on patrol as the Green Arrow. Then Oliver brings up a file showing all the labs doing 33.1 work for Lex and Clark says that Chloe may be able to help them narrow down their search for the missing Bart. Clark goes to Chloe and she tells him that Luthorcorp has recently moved twenty million dollars of equipment to a building in Metropolis called the Ridge facility. Clark tells her to take the information to Oliver as he speeds off to try and save Bart. Oliver is shocked when Chloe tells him that Clark has told her everything but Chloe tells Oliver he should worry about Lois finding out he's secretly the Green Arrow. As a guard enters the Ridge facility Clark speeds up and follows him in before the door can close.
Chloe tells Oliver where Bart's being held and when Oliver brings up the place's schematics she spots a lead shielded room and tells Oliver that Lex must be using meteor rocks and Clark is in danger. And she's right as we see Clark enter the very room she was talking about and he collapses in pain as the green kryptonite kept there starts to kill him with its deadly radiation! As two guards walk outside the plant, suddenly a green arrow shoots into a sign by them and sprays them with gas knocking them out. Green Arrow and Cyborg walk up as Green Arrow talks on an earphone to Chloe calling her Watchtower. Chloe tells them they must use a nearby panel to shut down security and Cyborg smashes it open easily and plugs his cybernetic arm into the panel using it to shut down the entire plant's security perimeter. Then Green Arrow speaks into his microphone to tell Aquaman to enter the plant and we see Arthur Curry swimming under the river at high speed and into a spot under the plant telling the Green Arrow he's inside.
Chloe directs them to where Clark should be but Green Arrow tells Cyborg to go do his special mission with Chloe asking what that means without getting an answer. We see an exhausted Bart still running in his cell like a crimson blur as Green Arrow knocks out more guards and tells Aquaman to proceed on his own mission. Cyborg smashes into another section of the plant knocking guards out with his incredible strength as all this occurs. Clark is dying from the kryptonite as a guard finds him in the room but the man is knocked out by a tranquilizer that Green Arrow shoots him with. Green Arrow helps Clark out of the deadly room and Clark quickly recovers as Green Arrow hands him an earpiece telling him that Bart's code name is Impulse. Chloe guides Clark to Impulse's cell while Green Arrow runs through the place planting explosives. Cyborg walks up to a room with a heavy vault door and it swings open and we see Aquaman has opened it for him after breaking in through the vent system and knocking out the guards. Cyborg walks up to a row of computers in the room and plugs into the system with his cybernetic left eye glowing red as he does.
He downloads information into his own systems as Clark breaks into the room where Impulse's cage is and he frees Bart from his deadly cage by smashing straight through its heavy glass walls with his invulnerable body. As Clark is freeing Impulse, the Green Arrow confronts an enraged Lex Luthor who's telling his guards to put the entire plant on lockdown. The Green Arrow tells Lex he has ten minutes to evacuate the plant as he's going to blow the entire place up and when Lex curses him the Green Arrow shoots a razor tipped arrow just past Lex's cheek leaving a hairline cut in it and then he disappears as Lex realizes he's not bluffing. Green Arrow meets up with Impulse and Clark and tells Cyborg and Aquaman to meet them at a prearranged spot and when Chloe tells them that she sees that all of Lex's men have evacuated Clark realizes the Green Arrow intends to blow the place up. Green Arrow asks Clark if he wants any more people imprisoned there like Bart was and Clark checks with Chloe who reassures him that everyone has left the building. Then he agrees the place must be destroyed and we next see the team of men walking away from the plant as explosions rock it and the entire building is blown into pieces. Fire erupts in blasts everywhere as they walk away and Chloe watches on her monitor as the Ridge facility vanishes forever from the face of the Earth.
The next day Lois walks into Oliver's office and she asks if he's packed for their trip when Oliver shocks her by saying he's leaving Metropolis for a very long while. He tells her he has no choice as there are important things he must do and he has to go even though he wants to stay. He also tells Lois that ever since his parents died he's never stopped jumping around from place to place and she is the only person he'll ever really miss now that he once again has to leave. With tears in her eyes Lois kisses him goodbye and Oliver tells her he'll regret leaving her for the rest of his life. As they part, Lionel Luthor meets with Lex at his mansion and tells him how upset he is at this fiasco involving the 33.1 facility and its loss. Lex tells his father that the men that attacked the plant using their special abilities is the very reason he's going to keep searching for people with powers to combat those he calls terrorists like Green Arrow. Then he tells Lionel that his guards have described one the men who destroyed the place as fitting a perfect description of Clark and Lionel covers for Clark telling Lex he spent last night eating dinner with Clark and his mother.
Clark and Chloe are in the Kent farm barn with Arthur, Bart and Victor talking about what they should call their team when Oliver walks in and says he was thinking of something with the word justice in it as that what he intends to give a dose of to Lex. He then tells them all that the information Cyborg got from the computers says that Lex is starting up 33.1 labs all over the world and he tells them to get ready to fly to the first one on the list. Clark tells Oliver he can't go with them yet as he has to take care of something first which we know is catching the Phantom Zone escapees. Oliver tells him its all right and that this isn't the end, its just the beginning and he and Clark shake hands and then Oliver leads the team from the barn. Chloe tells Clark he has some really amazing friends and Clark agrees as he watches the men leave as Oliver says, "Let's go save the world."

Our Story:
Clark is in his barn one night fixing a tractor and he's just finished when Shelby the dog starts growling and acting anxious. The dog runs up to the barn loft and Clark follows him and Shelby is still growling at something Clark cannot see. Suddenly an unseen force rams into Clark sending him flying out of the loft and to the barn floor knocking him out. When he opens his eyes he's in a psychiatric ward of a hospital surrounded by patients and a Dr. Hudson who's telling him to be calm. The other patients start taunting Clark calling him Kal-El and asking him why he doesn't use his superpowers to escape. As Clark grows more and more agitated and frightened, a couple of burly hospital workers restrain him and start dragging him back to a cell while Clark screams the whole while asking how and he got there and what's happening to him. But the men don't listen or care as a now powerless Clark is dragged away screaming!
Clark is pacing in his cell insisting he doesn't belong there when Dr. Hudson comes to visit him. When Clark says he thinks he's in 33.1, Lex Luthor's laboratory to study meteor infected people who've gained powers, the Doctor tells Clark that years ago he suffered a psychotic break and has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. The Doctor further explains that when Clark's real parents were killed in the meteor showers when he was a child he was adopted by the Kents. But he also says that Clark retreated from reality by building a fantasy world for himself by imagining that he was an alien and that he had special powers which he used to try and save the world. Doctor Hudson tells Clark that when he started as a freshman at Smallville High he slipped permanently into his fantasy world and for the last 5 and a half years he's been a resident of the Fairview Psychiatric Hospital. The Doctor goes on to tell Clark his condition is worsening and that he's developed a treatment which will cure Clark of his delusions about his super powers, his alien lineage, and his secret identity.
Clark walks around the hospital's recreation room amongst all the inmates and tries to pry the bars on the windows but his powers simply don't seem to exist now. Then there's an announcement for the inmates to line up to receive their medication and Clark gets into line when he's told to. But then an inmate stands behind him calling him Kal-El and he tells Clark that he believes he's from another planet because he is from Mars and he shouldn't trust anyone there. Suddenly an orderly shoots the man with a needle-gun knocking him out and two more orderlies drag the man away to a cell. Clark spots a janitor with a set of keys and the man opens a door to a hallway and Clark slips in behind him and knocks him out taking his uniform and I.D. and uses the ruse to escape from the hospital. Clark runs home to his barn loft but once there he finds Lana living in the loft and she tells Clark that when his Father died her Aunt Nell and she bought the Kent farm and she's been living there ever since he went away to the hospital.
She tells Clark she kept his telescope to feel close to him as he told her before he left they would be together forever and that a lot has changed since their freshman year. Clark insists that Lana was dating the football quarterback Whitney back then but Lana says that never happened. She tells Clark she's happy he's received his treatment and hope it cured him but he tells her he escaped from the hospital and he insists that Lex is behind all this and that Lana's helping him since she's now engaged to him. Lana claims she hardly knows Lex and Clark gets more and more frightened and then asks Lana where his Mother is. Lana says she's probably at the Luthor mansion and Clark runs off to see his Mother. When he arrives at the mansion Martha Kent is indeed there in the study and she tells Clark she's been worried since getting word he escaped. Clark tells her what's happened and when Martha mentions Lionel Luthor looking for him since he escaped Clark tells her that Lionel must have revealed what he knows about his powers and that they've been taken from him.
But Martha Kent shocks Clark by telling him that she's now married to Lionel and was afraid to tell him. When Clark insists on Martha going with him she hits an alarm button and security men burst into the room to restrain Clark, but he fights them off violently and runs from the room as they start to pull guns on him. He runs through the snow-covered grounds of the mansion and one security man fires a shot which halts Clark in his tracks. But when an SUV pulls up on the road and one of its doors flies open, Clark knocks the distracted guard down and jumps into the vehicle that we now see Chloe is driving! She tells Clark she's been looking for him since he escaped and says she's going to write a story that'll expose Lex and Lionel Luthor once and for all. When Clark says he's got to confront Lex, Chloe reminds him he's now powerless and could be killed but Clark still wants to go so Chloe lends him her vehicle. Clark goes to Lex's office in Metropolis and when he walks in he tells Lex he won't let Lex get away with this plot to ruin his life. Lex laughs at that and tells Clark his was the life that was ruined when Lex crashed his car avoiding Clark on the Loeb Bridge five years ago.
When Clark says that he saved Lex that day Lex comes around his desk and we see that he's in a wheel chair and he has no legs from his knees down! He tells Clark when he swerved to avoid him that day he crashed into the guardrail and lost his legs as a result. Lex tells Clark that his father had him put in the hospital when Lex wanted him jailed for causing the loss of his legs, but his father had him hospitalized to get into Martha Kent's good graces. Lex also tells Clark he wished he had simply run him over that day. Clark flees back to Smallville and he goes into the Talon but it's not the coffee shop he remembers; just a broken down wreck of an old movie theater. Lana comes in and tells Clark they've been in love since they were ten years old and he gave her a ring from a ten cent gumball machine telling her they were engaged from then on. Clark is wavering and beginning to doubt everything he ever believed and when he runs upstairs and meets with Chloe. Lana follows and tells Clark that Chloe was in Fairview with him as an inmate and Chloe insists that Clark and she are the only ones who know the truth about him and his powers. She tells Clark they have to go underground and flee from the Luthors for now but Lana begs Clark to get the help he needs.
Chloe runs downstairs just as Luthorcorp security men arrive and when Chloe pulls a gun from her purse they pull their guns and one fires point-blank at Chloe. As Clark cradles her in his arms she tells him she's not crazy and then she dies as Clark cries in disbelief. He's taken back to Fairview and strapped into a straightjacket as Dr. Hudson assures him his past is just a mental figment of his imagination, and when Clark looks around the room he sees several names of people that he thought he knew from his many adventures and then the Doctor shows him the hand soap in the room is named Jorel so Clark becomes more and more convinced that what the Doctor says is the truth. When the Doctor holds a meteor rock close to Clark he tells him it's just a rock and not called Kryptonite. Clark isn't affected by the rock and he realizes Chloe is really dead and the Doctor tells him he'll prepare the treatment cure. Clark sinks down in the room's corner as his view of reality seems to vanish more and more.
As Clark lies in his cell awaiting his treatment, the patient who spoke with him earlier talks to Clark from the next cell telling him he really is Kal-El and he's been infected by a escapee from the Phantom Zone who will unite the other Phantom Zone escapees and enslave mankind using Clark's powers. He tells Clark he's in his mind to help against the parasite that's invaded his body and the only way for Clark to regain his reality is to kill Dr. Hudson before the treatment he's about to receive gives the Phantom complete control of Clark's body. As orderlies drag the man from his cell, the man insists that Clark look within himself for strength and to believe in himself as the future of mankind depends on it. Then the men take a lighter out and when it's lit the man cringes from the flame obviously frightened by fire. Then Clark is taken to a room where Lana is waiting and she tells Clark that now they can always be together. She tells Clark that even if she is a part of this trap she says that his powers have only caused him pain and if he gives in to the treatment they will always be together as they were meant to be. Then Clark is strapped on a table and Dr. Hudson prepares a long telescoping drill to enter his skull but the Doctor insists the treatment won't hurt Clark but cure him forever.
Clark sees Lana watching through a glass window and smiling at him, but as the drill comes closer he sees Lana disappear and he hears Shelby barking. He realizes he's still in his barn and breaks free from the table and grabbing a nearby needle-gun he knocks one orderly out and overpowers another physically. Then he grabs Dr. Hudson by the neck screaming he knows who he really is and for him to get out of his mind. As Clark strangles Dr. Hudson, suddenly the man's eyes go all black and we see a horrible apparition come out of the man writhing in pain. Suddenly we're back in Clark's barn on the Kent farm and the patient that was in the cell next to Clark is standing over him as the Phantom Zone apparition is pulled into a red stone he's holding. He says, "Welcome home, Kal-El", and when he hears Chloe calling Clark's name from outside, his eyes glow bright red and in a crimson blur he flies out of the barn and into the night sky! As Clark embraces Chloe who he's overjoyed to see alive, Shelby runs to Clark and is petted by Clark who thanks the faithful dog for barking at him and possibly saving his life as the Phantom was about to take it.
They enter the Kent house and Chloe tells Clark he was only out for a few seconds but Clark tells Chloe his story and that it seemed like he was out for a lifetime. Then he tells Chloe that in his dreamscape she was the only one who believed in him but he leaves out the part about her dying as he reminds Chloe that she means very much to him. When he says he almost gave up his entire reality for the chance to be with Lana, he admits to Chloe he's still in love with Lana. The next day at the Talon coffee shop Clark sees Lana and tells her he had a dream where he gave her a ten cent ring from a gumball machine as an engagement ring and then he woke up from his dream. Lex enters telling Lana they have to go meet the wedding planner and they start to leave. Lana looks back at Clark with her eyes saying goodbye to him and as she goes we see in Clark's eyes his heart leaves with her.

Our Story:
Chloe and Clark stop in at the Talon Coffee shop and to their surprise there's a Valentine's Day party in full swing. Clark is still hurting over the fact that Lana's marrying Lex and wants to leave but Chloe convinces him to stay. Then Jimmy shows up with Lois and he tells Chloe he thinks Clark and Lois might make a good couple but Chloe's skeptical. Lois has just suffered a break up with Oliver Queen so she and Clark don't feel very romantic right now. The two are very uncomfortable standing next to each other and Clark decides he wants to go. A woman behind the counter suggests Lois use some of the lipstick she's selling and tells Lois she uses red meteor rocks to give the lipstick it's crimson hue. Lois puts some of the lipstick on and when she turns and sees Clark standing there she's immediately smitten with him despite their rocky relationship so far! The next day Clark walks into the kitchen just as Martha Kent is calling to reply that she'll be attending Lex and Lana's engagement party.
Then Lois comes to the door dressed in a very sexy mini-skirt and she asks Martha Kent if she'll leave them alone for a minute and Martha excuses herself. Lois is acting very romantically towards Clark and gives him a CD of music she says she mixed just for them to dance together by and Clark suggests she play it on the stereo. But just as Lois turns away, Clark super-speeds out of the house and down the road like his pants were on fire. Lana visits Chloe and tells her that she wants to patch up their recently estranged friendship and also that she hopes Chloe will be her Maid of Honor in her upcoming nuptials and Chloe happily agrees. But when Lana tells Chloe she knows that Chloe's protecting some great secret about Clark, Chloe doesn't know how to respond to that. Chloe arrives at the Daily Planet to find a Valentine's bouquet from Jimmy and then Clark arrives telling her he's been waiting for her. Chloe doesn't mention her meeting with Lana and then Clark tells Chloe about Lois' advances to him.
Suddenly Lois shows up and shows Clark she gotten a tattoo that says Clark and Lois forever on it and Chloe runs off wanting no part of this. Lois drags Clark into a nearby phone booth and kisses him, and then Clark's affected by the Red Kryptonite lipstick and starts kissing her back passionately. They head for a nearby office and kiss again and Lois tells Clark she realizes now that she kissed him in an alleyway one night and she now knows he's the Green Arrow. Clark corrects her telling Lois he was filling in for Oliver who's really the Green Arrow and that he's far from ordinary himself and it's time for her to meet the real Clark Kent. At the Luthor mansion preparations are underway for the engagement party and Lana comes in to find that Lex has a surprise for her in the form of a fully equipped nursery for the baby that Lana's pregnant with. He wants to announce Lana's pregnancy at the party but Lana is hesitant to do so and Lex worries abut Lana being in denial about the baby.
Clark takes Lois to the top of the Daily Planet building and to her surprise picks her up and flies her to the Clock tower apartment that Oliver Queen keeps in Metropolis. They go inside and start to disrobe when Clark notices an invitation to the engagement party in Lois' pocketbook and he's angry but not surprised he wasn't invited. Then he tells Lois that it's not a real party until someone crashes it! Jimmy sees Chloe at the Daily Planet and she tells him that she has found the store address for the women who sold Lois the lipstick that started Lois after Clark. Jimmy reminds Chloe that she's late for the engagement party so Chloe asks Jimmy to go see the woman. Chloe leaves for the party and Jimmy goes to the woman's shop and asks if she has something that will counteract the red lipstick, and the woman gives Jimmy a jar with a green glowing liquid which is obviously green kryptonite based. But the woman tells Jimmy no matter what happens she feels Lois and Clark are somehow destined to be together.
The party is in full swing and then Lex rises to make a toast to Lana when suddenly Clark and Lois burst into the room. Clark tells the people that his mother has turned against him by attending and then he tells Chloe that since Lana has betrayed him for Lex's attentions, she may have a chance with him and he's thought about it from time to time. Then he throws Lex a rattle and announces to the entire room that Lana's pregnant by Lex and that's the real reason they're getting married! Lex charges Clark but Clark swats him aside with his great strength right through a table filled with glasses shattering them. Lois tries to tell Clark that Lana's in his past but Clark says this is the present and he grabs Lana by the arm and stalks from the room. Martha Kent talks to Chloe who tells her that first Lana was subjected to an aphrodisiac and after kissing Clark she infected him with the Red Kryptonite lipstick. As Martha chases after Clark and Lana, Jimmy comes in and gives the green Kryptonite liquid to Chloe who tries to spray Lois with it but Lois knocks it out of her hand.
But Jimmy's on the job and catches the spray before it falls to the ground and then he sprays Lois in the face with it. Instantly the Red Kryptonite lipstick on her lips loses it glow and Lois wakes up wondering where she is and why she's dressed so provocatively. Clark drags Lana up to his barn loft and tells her not to marry Lex as he knows she doesn't really love him. Then he kisses her and tells her they're both still in love with each other and asks her to marry him instead of Lex! But Lana tells Clark she's given him plenty of chances and he can't stand the fact that she now loves Lex instead of him. At that moment Lex arrives and Lana runs to his arms with Lex asking Clark what he's trying to prove by his actions. Clark tells Lana to tell Lex she really still loves him and then he tells Lana that Lex just wants her for a trophy and to be one more thing he can steal from Clark. As Clark walks closer Lex pulls a gun on Clark and with his lightning speed Clark knocks it aside and then violently pushes Lex against the barn wall.
Clark is strangling Lex and Lana's screaming at Clark that he's killing Lex when Lex grabs an awl from a nearby toolbox and stabs Clark with it. Clark falls to the ground moaning and then Martha Kent walks into view and tells Lana to take Lex and go and she'll handle this matter. But as Lana leads Lex from the barn, she sees the awl lying on the ground with its end crumpled like aluminum foil. Lex and Lana leave and we see Martha Kent approach Clark and also see she's holding a piece of Green Kryptonite in a box in her hand which is the only reason Lex's attack had any effect on Clark. She snaps the box closed and then cradles her son in her arms asking him if he's okay and Clark gazes at his mother weakened and confused but now freed from the Red Kryptonite's influence. The next day Clark apologizes to his mother who tells him he's been so concerned about other's people's needs that he's been neglecting his own. She feels there were half-truths in everything he said while under the Red Kryptonite's influence and he must start to sort out his feeling for the people around him and come to terms with the fact that it's probably best if he leaves Lana alone from now on.
Lois comes into the barn and Martha leaves while Lois and Clark talk about what did and didn't happen between them recently. Lois explains that the tattoo is temporary and will fade soon and then Clark shows Lois the CD she made for him causing Lois to admit she must have really liked him during the last few days even though she can't remember it. Jimmy tells Chloe that Clark's behavior was inappropriate and when Chloe defends Clark to him he tells her she wouldn't accept those actions from him and he feels she'd rather be with Clark then him. Chloe tells Jimmy he's still her guy but Jimmy isn't convinced and tells her it's for the best if they take a break from each other. Both leave each other with tears in their eyes in this latest development in their relationship. Lex has a Doctor examine Lana and when he leaves Lex tells Lana he's not happy with the fact she kissed Clark but he can't blame Clark for being sorry he let Lana slip through his fingers. Then when Lex leaves the room he speaks to the Doctor who just examined Lana and the man tells Lex that Lana's pregnancy is safe even if it isn't a typical one leaving us to wonder about that cryptic statement. And in her room Lana takes out the badly bent awl that Lex stabbed Clark with and that she grabbed as they left the barn. And as she looks at it we can only guess what she suspects about Clark after what she's seen happen to the tool after it bent like foil trying to penetrate Clark's body!

Our Story:
Lana is sitting in her bedroom in Lex's mansion on a cold and snowy night looking at the chisel that bent on Clark's body when Lex recently stabbed Clark while Clark was under Red Kryptonite's influence. Then she gets a message on her cell phone, but when she sees the picture someone has sent her it's of her sitting there at her dresser that very moment holding the chisel! She runs into Lex in the hall and tells him someone's in her room and he summons his security team who search but find no one. While talking to Lex she notices she left the bent chisel in plain sight and she walks over and puts it back in her dresser's top drawer. Lana visits Chloe at her apartment over the Talon coffee shop and Chloe insists that Lana should stay there with her until the intruder stalking her is found. Chloe is surprised that Lex has flown away on business but his security team is on high alert protecting her patrolling the perimeter of the Talon.
When Chloe sees the picture Lana explains she's holding the bent chisel that Clark was stabbed with but she assures Chloe she needs her help in catching the stalker and she'll address on her own the reason Clark was unharmed when he was stabbed. Martha Kent finds Clark finishing his chores and he explains that since the press had been watching him as he's been linked to Lana and Lex for being Lana's ex-boyfriend, he's been doing things without using his powers being worried his secrets will be exposed. Chloe comes into the barn telling Clark about the stalker that's after Lana and she says that Lex's security men are watching over Lana. Then she tells Clark that she needs him to talk to Jimmy about a photographer she thinks might be the stalker and she tells Clark that she and Jimmy have broken up. She also shows Clark the picture of Lana holding his Dad's bent chisel and warns Clark that Lana is getting closer to learning the secret of his powers.
Back at Chloe's apartment, Lana is using Chloe's laptop computer and when she notices a file called "CK" she tries to access it but is stopped when the machine prompts her for a password to access the file. Then she hears footsteps and sees someone's shadow in front of the apartment door. She grabs a knife from the kitchen drainer by the sink and slowly walks towards the door. She opens it and walks down the stair calling for Brady who is the leader of the security team but he doesn't answer her calls. She heads downstairs to the coffee shop and sees a package on a table. She opens it and finds a red negligee with a note also that says, "I want you to wear this" on one side of the card, and on the other side it says, "When I kill you". She runs for the back door only to run into the waiting paparazzi talking pictures of her holding the knife in her hand. Then Brady finds her and takes her back in the building where Lana shows him the package and note with it.
Then someone starts to enter the coffee shop and Brady draws his gun but it's only Chloe returning with another of Lex's security men. Brady tells the man the discovery of the package means they have trouble in the form of a security breach. Clark meets up with Jimmy at the Daily Planet and tells him he needs his help tracking down the photographer who's after Lana. He also assures Jimmy that he is just Chloe's friend and not a rival for her affections and he feels Jimmy should talk to Chloe now that he knows that. They leave to look for the photographer just as Lex is viewing on his phone the footage of Lana trying to leave the Talon with a knife in her hand and he tells Brady that he wants Lana taken to Luthorcorp headquarters where her safety will be assured. But when Brady tells Lana what Lex's instructions are, she insists on being taken to the Kent farm instead as that's the last place anyone would think of to look for her. Martha Kent welcomes Lana and tells her to sleep in Clark's room as he can sleep on the couch for a night.
Once Brady assures Lana he'll be outside the room and that security's patrolling outside, Lana is left in Clark's bedroom. And she can't resist the urge to look through his desk drawer where she finds a framed picture of her which she nervously puts back in the drawer. She then goes over to Clark's bureau where in the top drawer she finds an old cigar box and looking inside she finds the crystal necklace she wore years ago in school and she's wonders how Clark came into possession of it. She puts it away when her cell phone rings and on it a man says he knows she's in Clark's bedroom and she can't escape him. She tells the stalker that she's surrounded by Lex's men and untouchable, but the man tells her he can get her at any time and he calls Lana "Princess". She hangs up the phone and calls for Brady who's outside the door but then she notices blood seeping under the door! Opening it, she finds the bleeding body of Brady and when she starts past him her cell phone rings again and the stalker tells Lana she deserves what's happening to her. She grabs Brady's gun and starts for the stairs when he grabs at her ankle as he's not quite dead yet and startles Lana causing her to fall down the staircase head over heels!
Lana awakens in the hospital with Martha Kent telling her where she is and that she's all right. A doctor assures Lana that she and the baby she's carrying are unharmed but he gives her a mild sedative to lower her blood pressure and she falls back asleep under the drug's influence. Lex's backup security man tells the Doctor he needs a more secure area to keep Lana in and the Doctor has Lana moved to the hospital's older closed wing. In Metropolis Jimmy and Clark have found the darkroom of the photographer who's chasing Lana and they discover a box of picture CDs with several pictures of Lana on them. Some of the pictures show Lana snooping around Clark's barn and then Martha Kent calls Clark telling him what's happened to Lana. Clark speeds out of the room leaving Jimmy to wonder what happened to him but he takes the box of CDs to investigate further. Lana wakes up in her new room in the old hospital wing and she hears her cell phone ringing. She follows the ringing phone's sound until she finds it on a table in the hall. It's Chloe calling to check on Lana's condition when suddenly the photographer appears snapping picture after picture of Lana and she runs through the deserted wing seeking safety.
The man chases Lana throughout the wing into a room filled with old equipment which Lana stumbles through knocking things over while the photographer relentlessly pursues her shooting photos of her. Clark speeds into the room knocking the man aside like a rag doll just as Lex's security man arrives gun in hand. Clark helps a dazed Lana to her feet while the security man takes the photographer outside into the hall. Then Clark and Lana hear gunshots and run into the hall where the security man tells them the photographer had a hidden gun and he had no choice but to shoot the man. He then tells Lana the threat to her is over and he's taking her back to the mansion where she belongs. Lana looks at Clark as they leave and he's somehow still uneasy over everything that's occurred. Lana is back at Lex's mansion standing by a warm fire in his study when the security man enters telling her that Lex is flying back from his business trip but he won't arrive until tomorrow. He then takes off his security earphone and microphone telling Lana that he feels Lex shouldn't have left her alone in the first place.
Lana tells him that he's out of place calling his employer by his first name and he apologizes for it. Then when Lana tells him to order her some food, the man tells Lana he sent the mansion staff home to keep them from being stranded at the mansion by the snowstorm raging outside. He goes on to say it's what she would have done and that Lana's not like all the other women that Lex has paraded in and out of the mansion. Lana reminds him he's crossing the line between employer and employee and the man says he knows that but then he says he's doing it all for her and then he calls her princess. When he says that Lana realizes that the man who called her on her cell phone also called her princess and that her stalker is the security man she's now alone in the mansion with! As the man gets closer and closer to Lana, she fills a glass with some bottled water as she tells him she realizes who he really is and what he's done. He tells Lana that his killing Brady couldn't be helped and he did it to save her from Lex and the way he's making her more like him everyday.
Lana tells him she knows that he meant to kill the photographer in front of her and only Clark's arrival prevented it. He insists that Lex is infecting Lana with his evil and he's just trying to save her. When he gets close enough Lana smashes the glass she's holding on his head and she runs into her bedroom to find that the madman has put the negligee he gave to her at the Talon on the bed in preparation for killing Lana while she wears it. She tries the phone only to find the jack for it has been ripped out of the wall. The security man uses an ornamental axe from the hallway and breaks into Lana's bedroom only to find that she has fled out her window onto the mansion's roof. Back in Metropolis, Chloe and Clark study the pictures the photographer took of Lana and they show Lana looking all over Clark's barn for clues to his secrets. Then Clark spots a shot taken at a benefit that Martha Kent attended the night Lana was first attacked and he and Chloe realize the photographer was not the real stalker and that Lana is still in mortal danger.
And the danger is very real as Lana frantically runs around the roof of the mansion amidst the snowstorm trying to find a way back inside. The deranged security man pursues her to the roof and chases after Lana with the axe he used on her bedroom door. He barely misses her twice with wild swings of the axe until he drops it and continues after her. They both run next to a skylight on the roof and the madman starts to choke Lana with all his strength until she fights him off by kicking at him desperately. He falls through the skylight but grabs Lana's arm as he does and both of them plummet to certain death on the mansion's floor! He smashes onto the floor dead but we see Clark's legs standing there as he has arrived in the nick of time catching Lana and saving her from catastrophe. She asks how he got there but Clark calms her by saying that all that matter's is that she's all right. Lana asks Clark why he's still watching over her after all that's happened between them and he tells her it's probably the same reason she's been watching over him, leaving it unsaid that there's still strong feelings between them.
The next day at the Daily Planet Clark asks Chloe how Lana is and Chloe explains to Clark how Lana risked her life keeping the picture of the bent chisel from Lex and that should show Clark that Lana is still loyal to him. Then Jimmy arrives furious at Clark over his leaving him at the photographer's studio since they broke in and possibly left Jimmy in trouble if he had been caught. Clark apologizes to Jimmy telling him he had to leave to try and protect Lana and that Jimmy was responsible for helping to save Lana. Then Clark advises Jimmy to talk to Chloe and they do so with Chloe telling Jimmy she admits to missing him since their breakup and the two kiss in reconciliation. Lana awakens in her bedroom with Lex standing over her and he tells her how powerless he felt in this crisis. He also says he was told she didn't go to Luthorcorp per his instructions and Lana admits she went to the Kent farm feeling no one would look for her there. Lex tells Lana he loves and trusts her but as he walks away the look on his face says otherwise. After he leaves Lana goes to her dresser but when she looks in her top drawer she's shocked to discover that the chisel Lex bent on Clark's body is now missing and she wonders who has it now.
Lex visits Clark in his barn reminding him that it was just recently that Clark kidnapped Lana from their engagement party and then tried to choke Lex to death in that very barn. Clark says he wasn't himself and he tells Lex he's sorry for his actions. Lex laughs Clark's apology off stating that he thinks Lana came to his home for safety during the recent crisis because she too feels there are unanswered questions about Clark. He admits that he once pursued the mysteries about Clark also but now doesn't care as he feels that his marrying Lana is satisfaction enough for him. He then gives Clark an invitation to his and Lana's impending wedding telling Clark he wants to make Lana happy by inviting him and he wants to make sure Clark sees everything he's lost when Lana takes his hand in marriage. Lex stalks from the barn feeling quite satisfied that he's caused Clark more pain by the invitation and the look on Clark's face says that Lex has fulfilled that goal all too well.

Our Story:
Lana and Chloe are enjoying some bowling on one of their last girl's nights out before Lana marries Lex and her pregnancy advances any further. A young man named Daniel who works at the alley offers Lana some tips, and this time when Lana rolls her ball down the aisle it seems to be a gutter ball until Daniel furrows his brows and makes the ball veer into the pins for a strike. Lana tries it again and when one pin is left standing, again Daniel concentrates and makes the pin fall but this time Chloe sees his actions and figures Daniel's obtained power from kryptonite meteor infection. While Lana and Chloe celebrate their turning fortunes at bowling with a picture, a young blind man comes in leaded by a Dr. Bethany. The blind man takes off his glasses and we see from his viewpoint nothing but blinding light, but Daniel gives off a green glow and the young man tells the Doctor that Daniel's what they're looking for. Later Daniel exits into the alley in back of Smallville Lanes and starts to drink from a bottle when suddenly a huge man confronts him and grabs him throwing him into a waiting van. Chloe walks into the alley and having seen the abduction yells at the men to leave Daniel alone when the van speeds towards Chloe in the tight ally. Only by diving out of the way does Chloe avoid certain death and she can only watch helplessly while the van races away with Daniel captive inside!
Chloe returns with Clark to the bowling alley and while they discuss the abduction Chloe asks Clark is he's attending Lex and Lana's wedding but Clark admits he really doesn't want to though Chloe thinks he should. Then while Chloe describes Daniel to Clark the young man walks into the building insisting he simply drank too much last night and woke up in bed and doesn't remember his abduction. Lex is finishing up his fitting for his wedding tuxedo and asking Lana pointed questions about last night's incident which makes Lana ask why he's so interested but Lex simply insists he's concerned for Chloe. Then Dr. Bethany walks into Lex's study and Lana exits while the Doctor tells Lex the blind man is growing impatient for the cornea transplant the Doctor promised him. Lex reminds the Doctor that the young man will lose his ability to identify meteor infected people if he's given new corneas and tells the Doctor to keep stalling. When Clark visits Chloe at the Daily Planet she informs him that there have been several random abductions lately where the people don't remember the incident the next day.
Clark suspects it's all connected to Lex's research into meteor powered people in his 33.1 labs and then Chloe shows one of the pictures she took last night. It shows a fellow they know from high school named Tobias Rice who was blinded in the last meteor shower and he's pointing right at Daniel in the picture's background. Clark and Chloe decide to drop in on Tobias to find out more but when they do Tobias denies pointing at Daniel and then offers them a drink. But when he knocks a glass off the shelf and Clark super-speeds to catch it he jostles Tobias causing his glasses to fall off. Tobias reacts painfully to the light and sees something that disturbs him and he asks Clark and Chloe to leave. Once outside Clark uses his super-hearing to listen in on a phone call that Tobias makes to Dr. Bethany saying he's found another meteor infected person and Clark worries his secrets may be exposed. As Chloe returns to her apartment over the Talon coffee shop, she gets a call from Jimmy saying he's coming over that night. Then Lana shows up asking Chloe why she went out into the alley last night and Chloe tells Lana about Daniel's power and that she thinks Lex might be involved.
Chloe tells Lana about Tobias and his power to spot meteor infected people but Lana insists that having powers doesn't necessarily make a person bad. Clark goes to the hospital and sees Dr. Bethany telling him he overheard his call with Tobias and the Doctor is evasive and tells Clark he's merely trying to get Tobias his cornea transplants. When a nurse comes in with a folder for the Doctor to peruse, Clark uses his super-breath to blow the paperwork around the room and in the confusion he takes the Doctor's laptop computer at super-speed. The Doctor sees it's missing and accuses Clark but he's not holding it and he leaves the room and picks it up from the table in the hall where he hid it. He takes the laptop to Chloe's apartment to find a panicked Jimmy who says he was supposed to meet Chloe but she's gone and isn't answering her cell phone which isn't like her. Clark tells Jimmy to try breaking into the laptop's files which isn't Jimmy's forté but he promises to try just as Clark speeds from the room to look for Chloe.
Clark goes to Tobias' house and asks him where Dr. Bethany is as he can't find him anywhere. Then Clark tells Tobias he knows what's going on and he tells Tobias that since Chloe witnessed the kidnapping of Daniel she's in danger. Tobias tells Clark he was told the Doctor was helping meteor infected people but Clark insists that's not true, and asks why Chloe was taken. And Tobias shocks Clark by saying that the reason Chloe was abducted is because she's meteor infected! At that moment Chloe is strapped down on a lab table in restraints while hooded Doctors examine her. Laser scans are run on her body and then a Doctor takes a DNA sample from Chloe with a long needle as Chloe can only watch helplessly in horror. The next morning Lana tells Lex about Tobias and his abilities and she wants to know if Lex is involved but he denies any knowledge about it. Jimmy is putting up missing posters of Chloe in the coffee shop and Clark tells him he still can't find the Doctor. Then Chloe calmly walks in the room with no memory of her abduction. Clark informs her she's the latest victim and Chloe can't figure out why she was taken, and then Clark asks Chloe's help in breaking into the Doctor's laptop files. Dr. Bethany goes to tell Lex that his laptop was stolen and information on it may link Luthorcorp to the Doctor's research on meteor people. Lex tells the Doctor he must now take drastic step as he never allows any loose ends in his affairs, and he instructs the Doctor to bring him Tobias unharmed.
Lana goes to see Tobias telling him she knows what's going on and that she'll help him get his cornea transplants. She also asks Tobias if he's informed anyone about Clark being meteor infected and Tobias shocks Lana with the news that Clark is a completely normal person. Chloe is working on the Doctor's laptop and insisting to Clark she's also meteor infected. She gets in the file system and finds a map of Smallville with GPS overlays which are tracking meteor people, and Chloe sees that one of the green dots is pinpointing her location! Jimmy comes in telling them that Daniel was just killed and Chloe notices that his dot on the map has just turned from green colored to red and they reason that the meteor people are being systematically killed. Jimmy leaves to find out more about Daniel's death and then Chloe tells Clark she wants him to use his x-ray vision on her body to look for anything unusual. He hesitantly agrees to and sees something green glowing under her right collarbone. Chloe's fear of dying like the rest of the meteor people who are being targeted turns to panic and she insists that Clark use his heat vision to burn whatever it is in her out of her body.
Clark refuses but when Chloe grabs a knife saying she'll cut it out herself if she has to he reluctantly agrees. He holds Chloe by the shoulders and tells her to stay as still as possible and focuses his heat-vision into a tiny beam which burns a hole where the device is. Chloe screams in pain as Clark then reaches into the small incision he's made and pulls out a tiny GPS tracking device which he crushes at once and then Chloe's green dot on the GPS map goes red. Lana and Tobias are surprised when Dr. Bethany shows up and tells Tobias it's time for his cornea transplant and he wants Tobias to come with him despite Lana's protestations. Tobias agrees and when he goes to get his jacket he throws a fuse box on the wall which plunges the house into darkness. Then the Doctor pulls a high power stun gun from his pocket and starts aiming around the room with it. Jimmy comes back to Chloe's apartment and Clark and Chloe explain that Clark used a pocketknife to cut out the GPS device from Chloe. Then Chloe notices that the only red dot left on the GPS map is the one tracking Tobias.
Back at Tobias' house the Doctor explains that he's supposed to just bring Tobias to the "powers that be" but if he does that he feels he'll then be killed. So instead he intends to use the deadly stun gun on Tobias and Lana to make it look as if they had heart attacks! But Tobias appears with a gun and tells the Doctor he'll shoot him if he has to and the Doctor laughs at the threat until Tobias pulls the trigger shooting the Doctor in the shoulder. Tobias warns the Doctor he'll kill him with his next shot and the Doctor tackles Tobias and the gun goes flying. The two men struggle while Lana picks up the gun and when the men break loose of each other, the Doctor retrieves his stun gun and aims it at Tobias. Lana warns the Doctor she'll shoot him but he decides to takes his chances and he shoots the stun gun at Tobias just as Lana pulls the gun's trigger. As the bullet heads for Tobias Clark speeds into the room faster then the eye can see and with a finger he flicks the bullet away from its fatal path. Then he jumps in front of Tobias just as the deadly shock is about to hit him and it bounces off of Clark's invulnerable chest and ricochets back to the Doctor killing him!
Clark then speeds out of the room so fast no one has even realized he was ever there. When Lana turns the lights on and goes to call the police, she sees the bullet she fired has crashed into a credenza across the room and impacted on a silver platter inside it. She picks up the bullet's remains and notices there's the shape of a finger imprinted on the dented slug! As the ambulance removes the Doctor's body Clark walks up and talks to Tobias telling him a friend of his has arranged for Tobias to get his cornea transplant and that he'll be safe now. Tobias tells Clark that Lana offered the same thing to him and Clark asks what Lana has to do with this affair. Tobias tells Clark that Lana thought that Clark was meteor infected and she wanted to protect him from that being revealed, but Tobias tells Clark he detected nothing in Clark and that as far as he is concerned Clark is a normal person. Then a limo pulls up and Clark tells Tobias his ride is there and he puts the young man inside it. Tobias thanks Clark and the limo pulls away just as Lana walks up to Clark. She tells him that once more he's in proximity to a miraculous saving of a life and Clark tries to play if off by citing the fact that the Doctor seems to have died of a heart attack.
But Lana surprises Clark by showing him the bullet slug with a finger imprint in it and tells Clark that the bullet must have ricocheted off of something very powerful. Then she asks where Tobias is and Clark explains that Oliver Queen, who we know is secretly the Green Arrow, has arranged for Tobias to be secreted away and to get his long hoped for cornea transplants. Then Clark thanks Lana for looking out for him in this matter and that it means a lot to him. Lana insists that even were Clark infected by the meteors, she'd still think of him as the same Clark Kent. Then a police detective takes Lana away to finish giving her statement to him about what's happened. When Lana arrives back at Lex's mansion Lex wants to know why she didn't come to him and Lana's response is to ask Lex why Dr. Bethany visited him recently. When Lex insists he was only seeing the Doctor about a grant to the hospital, Lana again insists that Lex swear that's true and Lex lies to her on the soul of their unborn child that he had no involvement in this affair. Lana hugs him in gratitude, but as she does her eyes betray the fact she has serious doubts about what Lex is up to.
At the Daily Planet Chloe is scared over the fact she's been identified as meteor infected and that no one who ever became infected came to a good end. She's afraid that her meteor powers will manifest one day and she'll end up destroyed because of them. Clark assures her he'll always be there to keep watch over her no matter what her infection causes to happen. Back in his mansion, Lex is looking at video of Chloe while she was being tested in his secret facility, and he makes an audio memo stating that he wants the latest identified meteor subject closely watched. And as that means Chloe, we now know that Clark and Lex will both be watching over her from now on. But only one of them will be doing it for a good purpose.

Our Story:
Finally the day has arrived for Lex Luthor to marry Lana Lang and the couple is holding hands while a doctor shows them on a monitor the movement of their child in Lana's womb. Clark goes through his closet picking out what to wear to the wedding but his thoughts are sad as he still loves Lana so this is not a day he has looked forward to. As Chloe helps Lana to get into her wedding gown, Clark sits in his loft in the barn and he finds a picture taken of him and Lana dancing at their high school prom. Finally his frustration grows so great that he hurls the picture out of the barn window and we see it fly away at supersonic speed just as fast as Clark feels his personal happiness flying away. Next we see Lex and Lana at the altar while a priest recites their vows and they both say I do. Just as Lex slips the wedding ring on Lana's finger, we see Lex stiffen in pain as Clark has just stabbed him from behind with a long dagger. And as Lana tells Clark she loves Lex, she takes the dagger from Clark and impales herself with it killing herself too! Then Clark bolts awake from this terrible nightmare he's just dreamed in which he's responsible for Lex and Lana's death.
Clark goes to the barn and he starts throwing bales of hay into the top of the barn with such great strength that he shatters the railing where the hay is stored. He stops realizing his anger can't be expressed with his powers as that's a dangerous misuse of them, and then his cell phone rings with a call from Chloe. She tells Clark she's somehow gotten locked in the wine cellar at Lex's mansion so Clark speeds to the scene. He walks up to the heavy metal door and the handle breaks off in his hand so he simply rips the door off its hinges releasing Chloe. He then slams the steel door back into place and uses his heat vision to repair the hinges. When Chloe explains that she was retrieving Lana's wedding gift for Lex from its hiding place in the wine room, Clark winces at the sight of it and says he's leaving. But Chloe tells Clark she can't believe that he's just giving up and not trying to stop Lana from being trapped in a loveless marriage married to a monster like Lex.
Clark tells Chloe that he can't stop Lana from marrying Lex if she wants to but Chloe goes on to tell Clark that he's not afraid of fire or of blocking a bullet using his invulnerable body, but he's obviously scared of being hurt by telling Lana his secrets and stopping the marriage. Clark explains that he loves Lana and that letting her go is the hardest thing he's ever done and if Chloe can't understand that she doesn't really know him. Then he super speeds out of the room faster then the eye can follow leaving a disappointed Chloe in his wake. Martha Kent arrives home to find Clark holding his father's watch in his hands and the watch has an inscription from Martha Kent on it that says, "To the love of my life". He asks Martha Kent how she and Jonathan Kent knew they were right for each other and Martha explains that it's not that simple a thing to know. Clark tells Martha Kent he wonders if he hasn't told Lana the truth about himself out of fear of being rejected and Martha reminds him that's just part of being human. She tells Clark that she and Jonathan Kent broke up after dating for a year due to the many differences between them but they reconciled as they couldn't stop thinking about each other and Martha feels she would have lost everything if she hadn't married Jonathan Kent.
Lana is in the mansion writing a note when she looks up to see Clark who tells her he can't let her go through with the marriage until she knows the whole truth about him. But Lana stops Clark telling him she's been in denial all this time and she's not going to marry Lex after all! She tells Clark she'll meet him in his barn at five O'clock and then hears someone coming so Clark leaves as another door opens but we don't see who has entered the room. Now we are seeing Lex earlier that morning and he's sitting in his home theater room watching video of his and Lana's child moving in the womb when suddenly the baby turns and stares at Lex with glowing eyes. This time it's Lex who bolts awake from the nightmare he's dreaming and he goes into the next room where he finds Lana standing by the fireplace. They both admit to being nervous and Lana tells Lex she has to meet Chloe and tie up a few loose ends and she'll see him later at the church. Lex goes to Luthorcorp headquarters in Metropolis where his father Lionel finds him in his office. Lex admits his nervousness and tells his father he fears that Lana will find out his true nature and he'll then lose her. But Lionel asks his son what he's willing to do to assure that Lana will be waiting for him at the altar and Lex replies "anything". Lionel promises Lex that he will make sure he gets his wish and leaves just as Lex's cell phone rings, but Lionel lingers outside the office door listening to Lex tell the unknown caller he'll meet him at once.
Now at 4:33PM on the wedding day as preparations are underway at the church, we see Lex arriving at a crypt room beneath the altar with Dr. Langston who's been treating Lana during her pregnancy. The Doctor threatens Lex by saying he'll reveal the truth to Lana about her pregnancy unless Lex wires 2 million dollars to a numbered account he holds. The Doctor tells Lex he'll pay him because if Lana finds out what Lex has done to her she'll never marry him. Lex goes wild beating the Doctor badly and then the Doctor falls hitting his head on one of the crypts and he falls to the floor dead as blood pours from his head. Lex pushes the crypt open and dumps the Doctor's body inside and then reseals the tomb. He runs upstairs and is in the bathroom of the church washing the blood off his hands as a knock comes at the door. It's Chloe and when Lex asks if it's time for the ceremony Chloe tells Lex that not only is he ten minutes late for it, but that Lana hasn't shown up and can't be found! Now we go back to 7:09AM in the morning and Lana is dreaming about when she was trapped in a truck during a tornado and she thought she saw Clark flying to her rescue. She wakens and goes into the next room while Lex still sleeps and looks at a newspaper article she's kept describing her survival of the tornado. She hears Lex waking up and she runs down in front of the fireplace and Lex enters as we realize we're now seeing the same moment from earlier where Lex awoke from his nightmare and came in to talk with Lana.
Afterwards Lana is happily surprised when her Aunt Nell arrives for the wedding and as they talk Nell realizes that Lana is troubled. Lana tells Nell that she has to find out the truth about something and she wonders what lengths to go to in order to find out that truth before marrying Lex. Nell assures Lana she must do whatever it takes to clear up any unresolved issues she has before she marries Lex. Now it's 10:55AM on this day and Chloe is helping Lana with her last minute preparations. Though Chloe can see Lana is feeling the pressure of the day, she still agrees to help however she can. So Lana then asks her to go to the wine cellar and retrieve Lex's wedding gift from where she hid it. As Chloe enters the room where she finds Lex's gift we see this time that it was Lana who slammed the door shut on the room Chloe gets trapped in. As Lana ignores Chloe calling her on her cell phone, we again see Clark arrive and break the door handle, tear the door off, reseal the heavy door using his incredible strength, and then fix the door hinges with his heat vision. But now we know that Lana is watching Clark and Chloe as Clark tells Chloe how he still loves Lana but won't tell Lana the truth about himself nor jeopardize the wedding. As Clark turns we see Lana's eyes widening from watching Clark using his powers and telling Chloe how he really feels and then when he super speeds away seemingly vanishing from the room, we realize that Lana now knows that Clark has powers far beyond that of mortal men!
It's now 1:35PM of this day and again we see Lana writing in the study of the mansion as Clark arrives to try and tell her the truth about himself and that he can't let her get married until she knows everything about him. Again we see Lana tell Clark that she's not marrying Lex and she'll meet him in his barn at five O'clock and Clark leaves as he and Lana hear someone coming. But this time we see that it's Lex's father Lionel who came into the room and he sees the note that Lana was writing and it's to Lex saying that she's sorry but she can't go through with the wedding. Lionel tells Lana that he's been watching Lana for some time and he knows she's finally found out the truth about Clark and his abilities. He then tells Lana despite Clark's seeming invincibility he knows how to kill Clark. And unless Lana marries Lex or if she tells anyone about their conversation, he will do just that! Now we go forward in time to when the guests have arrived at the church and are waiting for the wedding to begin. It is the moment that we saw before just after Chloe told Lex that Lana is late and can't be found. In his barn back at the Kent farm, Clark is waiting for Lana to arrive and practicing proposing to her. However, at that moment Lana has finally arrived at the church and is walking up the aisle to marry Lex who was worried she wasn't coming.
She proceeds up the aisle as the organ music plays and Clark is still waiting when he realizes that Lana's not coming, so he super speeds to the church. He arrives in time to see Lex and Lana exchanging their wedding vows and then Lionel, Martha Kent, and Lana all see Clark standing at the back of the church. But it's too late as finally the priest pronounces them husband and wife, and Martha Kent can only watch as her son's heart breaks as Lex and Lana walk down the aisle now as a married couple. The crowd waits outside the church for the couple to appear as we see Lex and Lana in an anteroom of the church. Lex tells Lana he's never been happier and that he feels like the luckiest man alive. Then he excuses himself for a moment and when he does Lana turns to a knock at the door and sees Clark standing there. He tells Lana he waited but she never came and he wants to know why she didn't. Lana tells Clark she's sorry and she didn't want to hurt him but she's decided she wants to be with Lex. Clark tells Lana he loves her and wants her more then anything but Lana insists that she's had a change of heart and she says that Lex did nothing to force her into the marriage. But we know that it was Lionel's threat to kill Clark which actually caused Lana to go through with the wedding.
Clark tries to tell Lana about his powers but she stops him saying that she's sorry but she loves Lex and she walks out of the room leaving a distraught Clark wondering how things ever came to this pass. As Lex waits in another room for Lana, his father walks in and tells Lex he knows about the dead Doctor Lex hid in the crypt under the church. He tells Lex how pathetic and desperate Lana has made him but he'll cover up his sins once again. Lex tells his father he'll do anything to keep Lana from the truth and Lionel Luthor assures his son that he'll come to collect on this debt between the two at some future date. Then Lana comes in the room and when Lionel kisses her on the cheek and welcomes her to their family calling her Mrs. Luthor, we see the fear on both her and Lex's face. He leaves and the newly married couple exits the church to the guests throwing glitter and rose petals over them. Lana gets into the limo and Lex pauses long enough to smile at the sight of the crestfallen Clark standing at the back of the crowd. As the Luthors drive away for their honeymoon Lex is still smiling, but Lana turns and she and Clark lock gazes. Each of them is heartbroken over what has happened, but they both realize just how helpless they are to do anything about it.

Our Story:
In a warehouse in a place unknown to us a garishly dressed announcer is telling a screaming crowd that the next fight will be between two new members of this particular fight club. As he speaks we see a beautiful woman dressing in a locker room while a man unabashedly watches her, and the woman the man calls Athena warns him she won't tolerate his blatant voyeurism any longer. Then they talk about the new fighter who is a huge man and how the announcer, who's called Maddox, found this new man in a bar in Omaha after he beat a motorcycle gang senseless. Suddenly alarms sound and the two people draw guns and run for the fight arena which is actually a huge steel cage. People pass them running out of the complex and one man tells Athena that the huge fighter called Titan has run amok and just killed the man called Maddox. At this news, Athena runs away from the building as fast as she can. Back in the steel cage we see Titan and another combatant flying through concrete building columns as if they were cardboard and then Titan starts beating his leather-clad opponent badly tossing him around the room. Then he walks over to him telling him it's "Time to die, Kryptonian", and we are shocked to see his bloody foe on the ground is none other then Clark Kent!
Next we see the Kent farm and it's 46 hours earlier then the event we just witnessed, and Clark is in his barn loft talking to Oliver Queen, who we know to be Green Arrow, on the phone. Martha Kent enters and shows Clark a newspaper that says that several career criminals are being found unconscious at police stations in Metropolis. Clark explains the criminals were all meteor infected and he had no choice but to fight harshly to apprehend them. Martha tells Clark she's worried about his new hardened attitude ever since Lex and Lana married, but Clark tells Martha that love is a human emotion and since he's not really human its time for him to start focusing on using his abilities as he sees fit. He then tells Martha that he's received a tip from Oliver that he must now attend to and leaves. Clark meets Chloe and they're watching an internet site called "Live or Die" which is the tip Oliver phoned to Clark. It's a high cost to access web site, and Clark and Chloe watch as the man called Titan beats another opponent badly in the cage and has him down when suddenly the downed fighter shoots an energy beam from his hands at Titan which doesn't seem to affect him at all. Chloe says this is obviously a fight club devoted to combat between meteor infected combatants and as they watch, Titan forces his opponent to a keeling position in front of him and then a huge spike comes out of a gauntlet he wears on his right arm.
Then the internet members are told to vote live or die for the beaten man and the votes pours in for him to die so Titan impales the man in his back and he falls to the ground dead. Then the announcer raises Titan's arm proclaiming him the victor and Clark and Chloe see a tattoo on the underside of Titan's arm which Clark recognizes and he tells Chloe the symbols are Krytptonian and spell the word prisoner. And that means that Titan isn't meteor infected but an escapee from the Phantom Zone! Chloe tells Clark the site has unbeatable technology making it impossible for her to trace it back to its origin point and Clark says that Oliver only knew that the warehouse is somewhere near them. At the Luthor mansion, Lex and Lana are talking about Lana's decision that they stay close to home instead of jetting off on a honeymoon as things have happened very quickly for her and she needs time to adjust to the idea of her pregnancy by Lex and their marriage. Lex tells Lana to take all the time she needs to adjust as they have the rest of their lives together and when he kisses Lana we see in her eyes the worry she's hiding. Clark visits Chloe again and she tells Clark the web sit keeps moving making it impossible to trace but she's found that Titan's latest victim was a Belle Reve Psychiatric patient whose body was smuggled back into his cell in Belle Reve after Titan killed him. Clark tells Chloe the tattoo Titan wears also has symbols that mean he's a warrior who has been enhanced specifically for fighting and his desire for combat is what led him to the fight club.
Then Lois comes in telling Clark and Chloe that unless she comes up with a story for her editor on the Inquisitor she's going to be laid off from her job. She sees Chloe's screen shot of Titan and begs Chloe to let her investigate this story as it will save her job, but Clark and Chloe leave quickly not giving Lois any help. After they go, Lois takes a the crumpled picture from the trash can of the announcer raising Titan's hand in victory, and on the wall in the picture's background Lois sees the initials FR-44. Being raised by her father in the army, she immediately deduces that the symbols stand for Fort Ryan-Hanger 44, so now she has the story lead she was hoping for! Lois goes to the hanger on the abandoned army base and Athena greets her inside. Lois tells Athena her car has problems and explains she's dressed in a red patent leather jump suit as she works at a nearby strip club. Athena leaves for a moment and Lois uses the time to take pictures of the web site computer equipment and of the blood on the walls and floor of the caged fight arena. Then Athena returns and catches Lois shooting her pictures and they start to fight. But Lois' training in self defense during her years as an Army brat serves her well and she knocks Athena down with a kick to her stomach. But her victory is short lived as the man called Maddox comes up behind Lois and holds a gun on her making her the captive of this bizarre fighting business! Clark meets Chloe at the Daily Planet and tells him she's discovered that the fight club promoter is really Richter Maddox who is an executive administrator at Belle Reve where he's recruiting meteor freaks to fight for him. Chloe has found no record however of Titan being in Belle Reve so she and Clark figure that Titan came to the club just for the joy of combat.
Clark figures that since Maddox is also using outside talent to fight for him, he can use his abilities to infiltrate the club as a free lance fighter to get to Titan. Chloe warns Clark that Titan may be able to kill even him, and Clark responds that he just may kill Titan first showing Chloe that Clark's attitude has taken a dangerous turn for the worse. Meanwhile Lex is sending one of his operatives named Bartlett to work on something we're not privy to. And after the man leaves Lex sees footage from his 33.1 meteor freak lab on Corto Maltese that shows the Green Arrow shooting a security camera and his databank lists the secret lab as having been compromised. He exits his study and goes into his bedroom looking for Lana and is shocked to find her collapsed on the floor grasping her stomach in pain which finally causes her to faint as Lex yells for help. When Lana awakens, she is in Smallville Medical Center and Lex is outside her room in the hallway talking to a Doctor. She struggles from the bed and calls for Lex who hears her and comes running in. She asks where Dr. Langston is and Lex says he didn't return his pages so he called in a Dr. Albright who tells Lana she'll be fine but she must stay in bed for a while to regain her strength. We know that Lex killed Dr. Langston on the day of his and Lana's wedding so his web of deceit between he and Lana is growing more and more. Lana keeps insisting on the safety of her baby and Lex asks the Doctor to leave them for a minute and then Lex gives Lana the sad news that she has suffered a miscarriage and lost their baby. Lana sobs tears of pain at this news and collapses in Lex's arms as he tries to comfort her, and we see in his eyes that this tragedy has hurt even Lex's hardened heart.
At Belle Reve Sanitarium Richter Maddox is leaving after a long day at work when Clark suddenly appears behind him in the parking lot. Clark tells Maddox he knows he's using meteor infected people as combatants in his fight club and Clark insists the man let him fight. First Maddox denies anything that Clark says, but when Clark easily tosses him over a nearby car the man jumps up with a gun in hand warning Clark off. When Clark stands his ground Maddox finally fires his gun point blank at Clark. But Maddox is shocked when Clark stands with his fist extended and then he shows the man the bullet he fired has been caught by Clark. Maddox's demeanor changes as he realizes he's got a new fighter for his unique venue and next we see him and Clark entering the hanger where the fight club is. Maddox changes not only into his announcer clothing but we see his persona change into that of a hustling con man as he tells Clark that he names all his fighters and he's decided to call Clark the man of steel. Maddox shows Clark the caged arena and also his sound equipment that he uses to simulate a cheering crowd and Clark sees the computers which broadcast the spectacle to the high paying internet audience. He explains to Clark that his high rollers expect to see death in this arena and that's what they pay great amounts of money for. Clark asks where Titan is and Maddox tells him he's saving him for the main event and he has someone else for Clark to fight first. Clark asks who he's supposed to fight and is shocked when Lois is bought into the ring as his first opponent!
The music starts as the spotlights flare on the two friends suddenly thrust into a combat situation. Maddox makes dramatic entrance announcements for the two of them calling it the match between "Vixen" and the "Man of Steel", and then he exits the cage as its steel bar doors slam shut. Lois dances around Clark in a fighting stance telling him to hit her and she'll just fall down and then they can both escape when the doors are opened. But Clark refuses to strike her so Lois tells him he can take the fall and she throws a hard punch into Clark's solar plexus. But her hand feels as if she hit a steel door and she winces in pain and staggers away from Clark. Clark decides he's had enough and turns and shoots bolts of heat vision from his eyes destroying the computers and sound equipment in an explosive display. All this attracts the man Clark's looking for as Titan strides up to the cage door and saying only "Kal-El", he throws the door upwards and stalks towards Clark with murder in his eyes. Maddox runs to Titan telling them internet feed is down but Titan responds by backhanding the man savagely and he flies twenty feet through the air landing dead as he falls to the ground. Now the alarms sound and we realize this is the moment we first saw where Athena and her voyeur friend grab guns and head for the steel cage. Clark turns to Lois and tells her simply to run, but as he turns back to Titan the huge fighter lands a punch which generates shockwaves and bloodies Clark's mouth while it sends him flying through the air into the steel cage fencing. The complex is chaos now as people run for any exit they can find as Lois jumps on Titan's back to try and stop him from hitting Clark again. The behemoth shrugs Lois off like a fly and she lands hard on the concrete floor knocked unconscious.
Titan heads towards Lois to finish her off when Clark yells to leave her alone and the two fighters square off for battle. Clark charges into Titan and the impetus carries both men straight through a concrete pillar of the hanger cracking it like balsa wood. Dust and debris fly through the air as the two men arise and trade blows that bloody both of them but would kill ordinary mortals. Titan picks Clark up and hurls him through the air like a rag doll and then runs over to Clark pounding him against a pillar and then he starts punching Clark harder and harder leaving him bloodier with every blow. Clark fights Titan off with a few punches of his own, but the bigger man finally throws Clark across the cage to the floor and then stands over him extending the spike from his gauntlet telling Clark "time to die Kryptonian". He throws the killing blow but Clark stops the spike inches from his face forcing it back towards this killer from another planet. With a right hand punch Clark knocks Titan down to the ground. And when he rises he says, "My turn", and we realize that Clark intends to do what he's never allowed himself to do against any opponent he's ever faced; he's going to use all his power to fight Titan. Clark leaps into the air and as he lands he throws a punch which finally staggers Titan. Then Clark backs up and runs in kicking Titan in his ribs sending him sprawling once again. Titan again rushes Clark and swings with his spiked hand but Clark blocks the blow and strikes downward across Titan's arm. Then Clark viciously head butts the giant sending him reeling backwards. The two combatants then stand across from each other as they seem to sense the final moment of their battle is at hand. Titan rushes Clark swinging his spiked hand at him, but Clark ducks under the killing blow and swings around in a circle. Then as he rises he throws an uppercut so powerful it generates shockwaves as it hits Titan's face. The blow sends the brutal giant flying across the arena to crash to the ground seemingly beaten at last.
But to Clark's amazement Titan again rises to his feet. But as he stands there Clark sees that Titan has been impaled through his chest by the broken remnants of the spike that he dispatched so many with. He grins at Clark and says, "good fight" and finally falls dead to the ground, and Clark then runs to check to see if Lois is all right. Next we see Mr. Bartlett reporting to Lex that when his security team entered the fight club they found Titan had been killed but they don't know who did it. Then he shows Lex the autopsy of Titan that shows he wasn't human and not a meteor infected man as Lex first believed. And because they lost the internet feed before the fight began they have no way of finding out how the behemoth died. Then we see Clark in his barn loft studying impact craters in the earth made by Phantom Zone escapees. Martha Kent arrives and Clark tells her that Lois suffered no serious injuries and never saw him use his powers and she's already writing her article on the fight club. Then Martha asks Clark how he's doing and he tells her that though he thought Titan was the final Phantom Zone escapee, he worries that there might be more of them and since he has no way to return them to the Zone he wonders if he'll be forced to kill them as he did Titan. Martha Kent reminds Clark that Titan's death was an accident and that the fact that Clark is experiencing regret and remorse over even a killer like Titan's death proves he has human qualities after all.
Clark confesses he was angry enough to want to kill Titan and Martha reminds Clark that he was really angry over Lana marrying Lex. Martha tells Clark that part of love is the ability to let someone you love go, and he must learn to deal with that or live with the anger he feels. At Lex's mansion, he's trying to console Lana over the loss of their child and Lana tells Lex she's learned that Dr. Langston died the day of their wedding, although she doesn't know it was at Lex's hands. Lana is bereft at all these horrible deaths and loss she's experiencing and Lex tries to reassure her that her only alternative is to try and let go of her pain, but Lana remains inconsolable and asks Lex to retrieve all of Dr. Langston's files concerning her pregnancy which Lex promises to do. And afterwards we see Lex talking to Dr. Albright on the phone who assures him that she has sent him every file that Dr. Langston had concerning her pregnancy. Lex then tells the Doctor to forget she ever heard of Lana Luthor and he hangs up the phone as he throws the files into his fireplace watching them burn. And then finally he throws in a picture taken of their unborn child who has tragically died, and as he watches it burn Lex feels as much pain, regret, and loss as even he has ever felt.

Our Story:
We begin on March 29th, 1995 and a woman is sitting in her living room nervously fingering a necklace when a young girl runs in the room telling the woman that she's gotten her latest story printed in the school paper. She is ecstatic as she tells her mother that her teacher says it's her best story yet, but then the little girl sees her mother has been crying and she asks why. Her mother calls her "her little cub reporter" and tells her she's very proud of her. Then she calls the little girl Chloe and we realize we're seeing Chloe talking to her mother all those years ago. Two men in white clothing enter the room and Chloe's mother tells her she's going on a vacation and says her father will take good care of her. Mother and child share a last embrace as we see the necklace dangling from the woman's hand. Then time passes and it's twelve years later and Lex Luthor is driving in his car when his cell phone rings and a doctor on the other end tells Lex he's still trying to get a woman in his care to admit she has meteor-infected abilities. Lex tells the doctor to persist in his efforts and he hangs up just as a huge pickup drives straight at him and Lex barely misses a collision as his car careens off the road into a field. He tries to restart his stalled car but as he does a person dressed in black suddenly appears at his window and smashes it with a flashlight. Lex asks what the person wants but the only response he gets is to be clubbed unconscious by the person's flashlight. Then the person reaches into the car and takes a computer flash drive Lex was carrying and we are shocked to see it's Chloe who thanks the unconscious Lex for it!
The next morning Chloe wakes up in her apartment and she is surprised to see a muddied pair of boots at the end of a trail of muddy footprints leading into her room. Clark knocks at the door and as he enters he asks about the boots and footprints and Chloe tells Clark she has no memory of what occurred between doing her dishes last night and then waking up in bed. She also tells Clark that two days ago she was typing at the Daily Planet and then the next thing she knew she woke up in her bed with no memory of what happened in the interval of time. She tells Clark she's worried this might be the first manifestation of her being meteor-infected which she only recently found out about. Clark tells Chloe until she knows the facts of the matter she shouldn't worry and offers to drive her to work. Lex walks into his bedroom and wakes up Lana who's upset to hear about his accident but he calms her by glossing over the truth about what happened. Lana tells Lex she's still mourning her miscarriage of their child and Lex says he's hurting too. She tells Lex she wants all possible tests run on her to find out if anything's wrong with her and Lex promises to have the tests scheduled. As Clark drives Chloe to work they spot Lex's car surrounded by police still sitting in the field he stalled in and they pull over to see what's going on. Clark uses his super-hearing to listen in as one of Lex's security men calls him telling Lex that the flash drive is missing and assumed stolen by whoever ran Lex off the road.
Clark then uses his super-vision and spots a button in Lex's car that he retrieves at super-speed and when he shows it to Chloe she tells Clark the button is the one missing from the very jacket she's wearing. They return to Chloe's apartment and when she finds Lex's flash drive in her backpack, she and Clark realize Chloe ambushed Lex last night but she has no memory of the event. She plugs the drive into her laptop and the only file on it describes a patient Luthorcorp is experimenting on that has the ability to control anyone who is meteor-infected. Then Chloe brings up a picture of the patient and she recognizes the patient as her own mother and she tells Clark that she must have caused her to attack Lex! Next we see what on the outside appears to be an old abandoned building but inside is actually is a state of the art complex that Lex is using for one of his 33.1 labs that experiments on meteor-infected people. We see Chloe's mother sitting in a bed in a glass enclosed room and she's still got the necklace we saw back in 1995. Lex enters the room and Chloe's mom insists on seeing her daughter. Lex cautions her that the drug she's been given to bring her out of the catatonic state her ability put her in is experimental and she must wait to see Chloe. Chloe's mother insists she has no ability to control meteor-infected people but Lex reminds her she had herself committed years ago because she discovered she could control Chloe by touching any object that Chloe owned and Lex believes she can control others who are infected also.
Moira Sullivan tells Lex she was merely delusional at the time but Lex remains convinced of her power and tells her she won't see Chloe until she shows Lex what she can do with people infected by meteors. Clark and Chloe go to the facility where she last saw her mother committed to and was in a catatonic state, but the man at the desk tells Chloe she was there yesterday and made a huge scene and she's now barred from the institution. Clark spots security cameras and tells Chloe to wait outside as he sees a sign pointing to where the security room is. Back at the 33.1 lab Moira is bought into a room where she meets a young man named Lowell who Lex tells to start using his powers. Lowell then rips a steel shelf right out of the wall and throws it at Moira who barely avoids it as it is imbedded into the cell wall. She grabs a pen that Lowell was using and we see her hand glow with a green light and then hear her voice in Lowell's mind as she tells him to stop and sit down which he does to Lex's delight. At the Daily Planet Clark and Chloe watch the tape he took from security at the institution which shows Chloe being told her mother was transferred and then it shows Chloe punching the woman who tells her! They realize that Chloe's mother is making Chloe find where she's being kept and they leave to confront Lex. At the 33.1 lab Lex tells Moira that he wants her to use her power to make a meteor-infected psychopath that escaped to return to the lab, and then he'll allow her to see Chloe. He gives her a garment the man wore and we see her hand glow green as she holds it and then we see the escapee running down a railroad track. But what Lex doesn't know is that Moira has just told the man to find Lex Luthor and kill him!
Lana is sitting in the Luthor mansion's den just as the escapee bursts through the doors knocking a security man out. Lana stuns the man with a fireplace poker she grabbed but as she runs away he uses his meteor power to grab her with an energy field and hurl her across the room knocking her out. Clark speeds into the room at that moment and tosses the man straight through a table across the room dazing him. Chloe tells Clark to speed Lana to the hospital and that she'll handle the escapee, so Clark grabs Lana and races from the room. Chloe then holds a gun on the man who tells her that the last thing he remembers is running down the railroad tracks after escaping from the lab where he and other people with powers are being held. Chloe then tells the man she can shoot him before he can stop her and she insists the man tell her where the 33.1 lab is located. Lana is now in the Smallville Medical Center and a doctor is telling her she suffered a mild concussion in the attack but because of her recent miscarriage he'd like to run some more tests to be sure she's completely healthy. Clark enters the room and Lana tells Clark that she lost her baby a few days after she and Lex were married. Clark offers his condolences and then asks Lana why she went ahead with the marriage after telling Clark she wasn't going to, but Lana insists she was merely nervous at the thought of marriage and wasn't forced to marry Lex. But we know she did it because Lex's father Lionel told Lana he knew about Clark's powers and how to kill him and that he would if she didn't marry his son. Clark doesn't believe Lana but he has no choice in the matter after Lana tells him to stop worrying about her and that she'll get through her problems herself.
Lex enters Moira's cell at the 33.1 lab telling her he's going after Chloe now that Moira caused Lana to be injured though Moira tells Lex she only wanted to hurt him and not Lana. Chloe enters Clark house back at the farm looking for him just as Clark speeds into the room. She tells Clark that the escapee told her the 33.1 lab is in an abandoned hospital owned by Luthorcorp and the pair decides to head for the facility. But before they can leave we see Moira in her cell handling Chloe's necklace and hear her voice in Chloe's mind telling to her to get out of Smallville at once. Chloe tries to leave but Clark realizes that Moira is using her power on Chloe and stops her. Chloe fakes dizziness and tells Clark to get her some water and while he does so Chloe gets the Kryptonite from its lead box that is kept at the Kent farm. She exposes Clark to it causing him to collapse as he begs Chloe to stop but her mother's power compels her to obey her and leave Smallville. Clark writhes in pain as we see Chloe speeding down the road out of town but then she sees road workers blocking the path and stops to tell them she has to get out of town. But the men are really working for Lex Luthor and when Chloe gets out of the car they knock her out with an injection and spirit her away to the 33.1 lab! Chloe awakens in her mother's cell and the two hug each other at this unexpected reunion and at Chloe finding her mother seemingly cured of her catatonic state. But their happiness is short-lived as Moira tells Chloe that she has caused all of Chloe's suffering though Chloe tells her mother she just wants to help her. Then Moira tells Chloe about and incident when she was young were she had gotten paint on her hands and her mother told her to wash the paint off. Because of Moira's power, Chloe had then washed her hands raw and bloody until Moira found her and only then did she realize her ability to control Chloe was too dangerous for her to be around her and she had herself committed to keep Chloe safe.
Moira tells Chloe she must now protect her from Lex as she protected Chloe from herself but Chloe tells her mother to use her abilities to control one of the prisoners to help them escape. Back at the Kent farm Martha Kent walks into the house to find Clark collapsed on the floor from the Kryptonite and she quickly puts it back in the lead box and Clark starts to recover at once. While this happens, the 33.1 prisoner named Lowell is being led by guards to a lab for more experiments when they pass by Moira's cell and Chloe bangs on the glass telling the guards her mother has fallen ill. One guard enters the room and Chloe runs out the door but is overpowered by the other guard. But during the struggle Chloe grabs Lowell's pen from his shirt and throws it to her mother and we hear Moira in Lowell's mind telling him to protect them and help them escape. At once Lowell uses his great strength to throw the guards down the hallway and the trio then runs down the hall looking for an exit. But as they turn a corner other guards shoot Lowell with a tranquilizer dart and Moira and Chloe are forced to try escaping on their own. They run down the maze of hallways until finally Moira is caught by one of the guards and then she commands Chloe to get out any way she can. Chloe turns on her captor with an unexpected ferocity and knocks him down and grabs a tear gas rifle he's carrying and runs off with it. She turns a corner and comes face to face with Lex and when he tells her he's not going to let her go, Chloe fires the tear gas round straight at Lex's face! But Clark then speeds into the corridor and swats the shell aside mere inches before it strikes Lex and then he stuns Lex by swatting him into the hallway wall like a doll. The gas from the canister incapacitates Lex and by the time he looks up at the hallway, Clark has sped from the scene without Lex ever realizing he was even there.
Clark takes Moira and Chloe to Oliver Queen's penthouse in Metropolis for safekeeping as Oliver is secretly the Green Arrow and Clark's ally against Lex. Oliver has arranged a safe house to secret Moira away to keep Lex from ever bothering her again. But as Chloe arrives with some food for them Clark tells her that the drug Lex used on Moira to relieve her catatonia is wearing off and her mother's mind is already slipping away again. Chloe tells her mother she'll get more of the drug from Lex but Moira forbids it and tells Chloe her ability to control meteor-infected people has made her a human weapon and she won't allow herself to ever be used that way again. Then as her speech and movement slip away she once again calls Chloe her little cub reporter and tells her how proud she is of her daughter. Her last lucid act is to give Chloe back her necklace and tell her she loves her very much, and then she slips back into complete catatonia. Chloe's heart breaks and with tears in her eyes she tells her mother she loves her too as Clark stands helplessly; his great powers of no use in this situation. Chloe goes back to the Daily Planet and starts writing the article which will expose Lex's wrongdoings but then Lex comes in and tells Chloe that his investigators have hair fiber and several other pieces of evidence of her attack on him when she ran him off the road and he'll see to it she goes to jail if she prints the article she's writing. And when Chloe says she's willing to be jailed if that's what it takes to stop him, Lex tells her that he will do whatever it takes to stop her with options far worse then imprisonment.
Back at the Smallville Medical Center Lana's doctor enters her room and tells her his test results have shown that Lana was taking synthetic hormones which made her look pregnant and he thinks she faked her pregnancy to trick Lex into marrying her. When Lana tells the doctor she saw the baby's sonograms the doctor tells her it couldn't have been her baby, and Lana is shocked to realize that she wasn't ever really pregnant after all! Chloe returns to the Kent farm and tells Clark how badly she feels now that her mother will never get to know her, and Clark tells Chloe that while she wasn't there he told Moira everything that Chloe's accomplished and that her mother was very proud of her. Then Chloe tells Clark that Lex threatened her life to stop her story and Clark wants to go after Lex but Chloe reminds him that until they get Lana away from Lex he would destroy her just to stop them. But Clark tells Chloe that this means that once and for all, the war between them and Lex is about to begin. And Lex's threats and actions have made it clear to us too that Clark is right and Lex will now destroy anyone who dares to get in his way.

Our Story:
Lex Luthor is walking in an underground complex through a maze of hallways when his father Lionel appears asking him what he's doing in such an odd place at 4AM in the morning. Lex tells his father he's spearheading a water purification plant using the complex for that express purpose. But Lionel isn't convinced by Lex's story and then tells him he knows he's really heading up a so-called "Project Ares" and at that statement Lex pauses. Then they turn a corner of the tunnels to find an unknown woman who's not supposed to be there. Lex tells the woman he's calling security and she responds that this meeting is for Lex and her alone and she suddenly produces a hand-held detonator. As she speaks, Lionel looks up and sees an explosive charge planted on the wall and yells out his son's name and runs for Lex just as she presses the device's trigger. A thunderous explosion rocks the tunnel blowing the elder Luthor backwards as it rains debris down blocking the tunnel and separating the two Luthors. Then the woman casually knocks Lex out and drags his body down the tunnel leaving the injured Lionel on the other side of the cave-in! Next we see Lionel being wheeled into Smallville Medical Center just as Clark and Martha Kent arrive. The badly hurt Lionel tells Clark that Lex is still trapped down in the tunnels and he implores Clark to save his son as the woman is holding Lex hostage.
Lionel tells Clark that Lex has put something terrible into motion in the tunnels and only Lex can stop it, but only Clark will be able to locate Lex in the maze of tunnels. At that moment Lex is waking up in a room the woman has dragged him into and she has handcuffed Lex to a pole. She tells Lex that her husband is U.S. Special Forces Sergeant Wes Keenan and that she was told four months ago that her husband died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. But she has since discovered a document from Luthorcorp with her husband's picture on it and she knows that Lex has kidnapped the man. Lex denies all this and says he'll help her find her husband's body but she must first release him and accept the fact that the man is really dead. She replies that she was dishonorably discharged from the military and is an expert in explosives and that she has rigged the entire five miles of the tunnels with C-4 explosives. And she also knows that Lex is using her husband in whatever project he's really running in the complex and if she doesn't talk to him in 20 minutes the entire place will be blown to bits. She makes her point by pushing another hand-held device and a timer on a nearby charge starts a countdown from twenty minutes! Chloe meets Clark at the abandoned factory on top of the tunnels and the place is swarming with police and bomb squad personnel.
She tells Clark that the debris is blocking them from entering the tunnels but if what Lionel says is true then the police will never find Lex in time to save him. Chloe tells Clark she'd rather see Lex die for what he did to her mother but Clark knows that's wrong and insists that he may not only save Lex, but produce incriminating evidence against him with whatever he finds underground. Inside the tunnel room he's trapped in, Lex has managed to free himself from his handcuffs but Kate Keenan then pulls a handgun on Lex insisting that he call her husband and let her speak to him. Lex then tells her that it's true that her husband didn't die in the helicopter crash, but he was shot and mortally injured and then Luthorcorp retrieved him and tried an experimental procedure on him and then he did truly die. Then Lex jumps Kate and manages to wrestle the gun from her. He then tells her to deactivate the explosives, but Kate Keenan tells Lex that they're preprogrammed and cannot be stopped. Then she takes out a small explosive charge and sets it off as Lex dives for cover behind a pile of bags nearby. The blast kills Kate Keenan and sets off yet another series of explosions in the tunnels just as Clark super-speeds into them. And as the walls and ceilings rain down, we see chunks of kryptonite mixed in the rubble flying through the air along with the debris. And Clark is blown down the tunnel aisle and buried in the falling walls mingled with the deadly kryptonite! Lana arrives at Smallville Medical Center and Martha Kent consoles her when Lana explains there's still no word on Lex.
Then Lana tells the Doctor that she must speak with Lionel, who's being prepared for surgery, as her husband Lex is missing and Lionel may be her last surviving family member. She enters the room and tells Lionel she's glad for the pain he's in and makes her point by using her fingernail to pinch off his IV that's supplying him with painkiller. Lana tells Lionel she now knows that Lex tricked her into believing she was pregnant and then into making her think she lost a child in miscarriage that never existed. She is furious over Lionel then coercing her into marrying Lex by threatening to kill Clark by using kryptonite on him. She insists on Lionel telling her why he forced the marriage and this time folds his oxygen line in half to make him answer, and she's shocked when Lionel says the whole time he was actually trying to protect Clark. Then the Doctor and orderlies rush in the room and take Lionel away telling Lana they cannot delay his surgery any longer. In the hallway, Lana sees a policeman telling his captain that they've found a briefcase belonging to Lex that was in his car parked outside the tunnel entrance. Lana takes the case from him and tells the officers that she'll keep the briefcase until she is shown a warrant for its seizure and walks away. In the tunnels Clark stumbles through the wreckage until he reaches the room where Lex is and sees him rising from under the remains of the blast Kate Keenan died in. He tells Lex that Lionel sent him to help and that the police have called off the search after learning the entire tunnel system was rigged to explode.
Lex tells Clark that the explosives are timed and cannot be stopped, and then he notices that Clark is bleeding from a piece of shrapnel that's lodged in the back of his left arm. At that moment Lana is entering the Luthor mansion's den and she puts the briefcase down and then gets a gun from hiding and calmly shoots off the locks. Inside the case she finds a disc marked "Ares" and she puts it into a player and it shows a woman being filmed by her husband in Patagonia when suddenly some strange beast erupts from a hillside and kills the hapless couple while the fallen camera films their grisly deaths. As Lana watches, Lex is pulling the piece of shrapnel from Clark's arm as he tells Clark he's surprised to see him injured as once he stabbed Clark with a chisel that bent from the impact. Lex also tells Clark that he knows that Clark has kept secrets about himself from Lex since they met, and Clark then accuses Lex of trying to exploit people with powers in this secret location. Lex says that Clark sees no gray areas in life, only good or evil and Clark retorts that trying to find the humanity in Lex has bought them both to this place of danger. Lex leads them from the room into the crumbling hallway and then he crawls through a small gap in the rubble to reach the other side of the tunnel. The entire structure is falling apart as Clark follows Lex through the small space but the kryptonite sprinkled in the ruins is weakening him badly and he barely makes it out of the tiny space. As they move down the crumbling hallway, we see a timer on an explosive charge that shows only seven minutes are left until the entire place is destroyed.
Up above the tunnels Chloe tries to reach Clark with her cell phone and when she can't she then questions a policeman who tells her the second explosion has caused the tunnel system's further collapse and now no one can enter the structure. Chloe then sees green dust all over the man and he tells her that it's meteor dust that's all over the tunnels and now she knows just how much trouble Clark is in. In the collapsing tunnels, Clark and Lex have run into a locked gate which Clark can't break open now that the kryptonite has weakened him to mortal levels. When Clark accuses Lex of not trusting even Lana with the secret of what he's really doing in this place Lex says that Lana is the first person he ever really did trust. Clark then asks Lex if that's true then why did he trick Lana into marrying him as she came to Clark on the wedding day and told him she was backing out of the union. Lex answers he honestly doesn't know why Lana went through with it and Clark then asks him if they were ever really even friends. Again Lex says he can't even be sure of that as Clark was the first person he ever thought of as a friend but somehow Clark now thinks of Lex as his nemesis. As they talk suddenly the ceiling near Clark collapses completely trapping him in debris and Clark calls to Lex for help. But then Lex simply turns away and runs off down the tunnels while Clark still calls for his aid. Chloe enters the den of the Luthor mansion just after Lana has found schematics of the tunnels and rooms on the Ares disc. Chloe tells Lana she can't get any answers from the authorities and then she tells Lana that Clark is trapped with Lex. Lana says that she knows Clark can't be harmed and Chloe assures her that Clark is in danger and can die if they aren't found soon. Lana then shows Chloe the tunnel blueprints she's found on the disc and says she's been spying on Lex for a while to gain computer access to his secrets and that she knows an alternate way into the tunnels.
Clark is trying to free himself but with no strength it seems hopeless until suddenly Lex appears and uses a long pipe to lever the wreckage and free Clark. He then tells Clark he wouldn't leave him to die and that the last collapse has actually exposed a hatch to the surface they could escape through. But there's only 30 seconds left as the two men frantically scramble up the double ladder in the hatchway with the surface above them and safety so near. They climb for their lives as the explosives that Kate Keenan planted finally explode sending a fireball up the hatch threatening to consume them both. Clark's strength is finally starting to return and as they reach the lid blocking their way he throws all he has into a final shove and the two men leap from the hole just as the blast's flames erupt into the air through the opening. They fall to the sides of the hatch barely escaping death by mere seconds as the authorities pull up to the site after Lana told them of this access to the tunnels. The sun appears from behind a cloud bathing Clark in its light restoring all his powers to him as he breathes deeply in relief. As Lana and Chloe appear from a car, Lana sees Clark and runs to him noting his wounds and the two tenderly embrace. But when Lana sees Lex standing intact through the crowded scene she runs to embrace her husband. Clark watches helplessly as Lex watches him, and the emotional triangle between the three is again complete. The next day Lana visits the recovering Lionel in the hospital and she asks him what he meant when he said he was really trying to protect Clark. Lionel tells her that her love for Clark was the only thing he could use to keep Clark safe and her close to Lex.
Lana then threatens to tell Martha Kent what Lionel's been up to and Lionel replies that Lana is learning how to be as ruthless as the Luthor name is known for. Clark and Chloe have returned to the land above the tunnels but Clark's x-ray vision can find nothing suspicious. Chloe tells Clark how Lana only gave the information about the alternate entrance to the tunnels after she learned that Clark was in danger too and Clark is shocked to think that Lana was willing to let Lex die in a trap of his own making. Lex is sitting in the mansion den when Lana enters giving Lex back his briefcase claiming the police shot off its locks but that she retrieved it from them before they could search it. When Lex asks her why she went to Clark on their wedding day claiming she was leaving Lex, Lana lies and says she was afraid as she felt she was already losing their baby and felt to go through the marriage at that point would be a deceit. She then says she felt Lex and she were going to be great parents to their child and she felt that she would lose Lex if the impending miscarriage happened. She tells Lex that anyone who would lie to her that way would lose her forever and she embraces Lex and we see in Lana's eyes that she has indeed become as ruthless as Lex and his father. Martha Kent visits Clark in his barn loft asking him if he's found anything unusual in Lex's latest scheme and Clark admits it all seems legitimate and he wonders if he's given up on Lex as a friend too soon and should believe in him as Martha seems to believe in Lex's father Lionel.
Martha Kent assures Clark she doesn't trust Lionel although he seems to have changed and that Clark's sense of hope is a great strength, but yet may become his greatest weakness. Then we see Martha Kent may be correct about Lex still posing a threat to Clark as again we see Lex walking through a tunnel system with a security man and they enter a lab room with a glass encased section as the security man tells Lex that the "prototype" is almost ready. As Lex opens up the file on the supposedly dead Wes Keenan, we see the Sergeant strapped down on a table behind the glass and breathing though seemingly asleep. Lex talks to the man as if he were awake and says that he nearly died keeping the man alive and now he hopes that Wes Keenan will go as far for Lex as Lex did for him.

Our Story:
Chloe is on night duty at the Daily Planet due to all the other reporters being out on the story of Senator Burke visiting Metropolis. So Jimmy drops in and sets up a sixteen millimeter projector and a screen in a room to treat Chloe to a private showing of "The Big Sleep", the Phillip Marlowe detective classic from 1940. While watching the movie the pair suddenly hears a gunshot ring out that doesn't come from the movie and they run out of the room in time to see a man fleeing up the stairs through the shadows. Jimmy takes out his cell phone and quickly snaps a picture of the running man and then Chloe calls him over to the elevator. Jimmy runs over to the elevator and sees a leg protruding from the door which is opening and closing due to the leg blocking the doors. He pushes open the doors and he and Chloe are shocked to see Lana Luthor lying on the elevator floor bleeding badly from a gunshot wound to her shoulder! Clark arrives at the Daily Planet in time to see a badly wounded Lana being taken out by the emergency technicians and Lionel Luthor is leaning over the gurney telling Lana he's sorry he got her caught up in this affair and he promises to find her assailant.
Jimmy's shooting pictures as the police swarm about and some of his photos are of the contents of Lana's purse which has spilled onto the elevator's floor during the assault. Lois is questioning a patrolman trying to ply information about the crime from him but she has no luck. Then Lois sees Lana's purse's contents on the elevator floor and she purposely drops her own purse and gathers the contents along with a cigarette case that fell from Lana's purse. But Lionel Luthor has seen Lana palm the cigarette case and we know he'll pursue the matter. Lex Luthor arrives and his father Lionel tells him that he accompanied Lana to the opera and dropped her at her car an hour ago and Lex is livid over Lana being attacked. Jimmy, Chloe, and Clark talk over the oddity of Lana being in the Daily Planet and getting mugged there when she had no business being there. Clark goes to find the mugger as he feels he's been lax in protecting Lana due to his anger over Lex and Lana marrying. Chloe tells Jimmy to download the picture he took with his phone and Jimmy sits at his desk while "The Big Sleep" plays in the background.
While Jimmy does this, a man whose shadow we see on the movie screen comes up behind him and knocks him out and his head falls to the desk. A moment later he opens his eyes and suddenly the picture we're watching turns from color to black and white and Jimmy looks up to see people scrambling all over the newsroom and everyone is dressed in old fashioned clothing including Jimmy. Jimmy looks about in amazement and then he looks at the paper on his desk and the Daily Planet edition says the date is May 3rd, 1940! Chloe then walks up and tells Jimmy there's no time for sleeping on the job and that she didn't take this job to get coffee for anyone but the best reporter. She turns away and a reporter stumbles into her knocking papers everywhere and spilling coffee on Chloe. Then the man looks at them as he apologizes and introduces himself as Clark Kent, but this Clark is wearing glasses. Then Jimmy's phone rings and a woman who we recognize as Lana Luthor tells Jimmy she's heard he's the best of the Daily Planet's reporters and she wants to report a murder and she says that she is the victim!
Jimmy is waiting in an alleyway and a fancy limousine pulls up to the alley's end. A beautiful woman leaves the limo and walks up to Jimmy who's shocked to recognize her as Lana Luthor and remarks that he's surprised to be meeting with the wife of the man who owns the Daily Planet and half of Metropolis; Lex Luthor. Lana tells Jimmy that she thinks Lex is trying to get rid of her as a car tried to run her down recently and then she tells Jimmy that Lex has been sneaking out at night. She produces the same cigarette case we saw Lois take earlier and when Jimmy opens it there's a pack of matches from a bar called The Talon so Lana leaves and Jimmy heads for the bar. Jimmy enters the old fashioned "gin joint", as they were called in those days, and a bouncer stops him at the door telling him no dice on getting into the place. But suddenly a very different suave and sophisticated Clark walks up sans eyeglasses and tells the bouncer to let Jimmy in and Jimmy follows Clark to the bar. Lionel Luthor owns the bar and he gets drinks for the two men while telling Jimmy that "dames are poison".
Jimmy insists he's not looking for a story while Lionel walks over to greet his son Lex who taunts that Lionel used to run the town and now he's just pouring drinks for it. Then a sultry singer swaggers down the stairs and starts a song while Jimmy sees that it's Lois Lane doing the routine. Clark warns Jimmy that if Lois is what he's after he'll have to get in line and he tells a doubtful Jimmy that he's one of the good guys. As Clark walks away, Lionel approaches Jimmy telling him he's got a hot tip for him. He says that every night Lex comes in for a little while then makes a big show of leaving out in the alley. But Lionel tells Jimmy that when Lex's car leaves, Lex is never really inside it. Sure enough Lex gets up and makes his alleyway exit and when he walks behind a phone booth, a bald man gets in the car and after it leaves we see Lex is indeed still there. Lex then runs to his sedan across the street and drives away with Jimmy following him in his coupe. Lex drives to a garage and Lois comes down the stairs meeting him and the two kiss. Lois tells Lex she wants all of him and Lex insists that he's getting rid of his wife soon.
What the pair don't realize is that Jimmy's sneaking up on them and when they kiss passionately, Jimmy jumps out and shoots a picture while they embrace. Lex is furious and chases Jimmy from the garage and both men jump into their cars and speed down the road wildly with Lex in hot pursuit. Lex is getting closer to Jimmy as the two tear through traffic barely avoiding collisions as they go. Then Jimmy sees his chance with a train about to pass and at the last second he hits his gas pedal and barely makes it across the tracks. Lex doggedly tries to follow but he then swerves to avoid the train and his car overturns next to the tracks. But Lex climbs from the wreck unharmed and his expression tells us he hasn't given up on catching Jimmy. Hours later Jimmy shows up at the Luthor mansion and he tells Lana that she's not imagining Lex's indiscretions and shows her the picture he took of Lois and Lex kissing. Lana is frightened as she feels she can't beat Lex even with proof as he's too powerful and Jimmy tells the beautiful woman not to worry as he'll take care of Lex for her.
Lana gets a gun from a nearby drawer telling Jimmy it's just in case and that she couldn't bear it if anything happened to him. We can tell that she's playing Jimmy for a fool but Jimmy's too stricken by her charms to see through the ruse. Next we see a used car lot where Jimmy's waiting for Lex who's just arrived in the pouring rain. He compliments Jimmy on his driving earlier and Jimmy tells him he overheard Lex remarking to Lois he was getting rid of Lana. But Lex tells Jimmy that he's just filed for divorce from Lana and that she's just using Jimmy. Lex then tells Jimmy to knock off this routine or he's going to catch some lead in his lungs but Jimmy then shows Lex the picture he took insisting it'll be tomorrow's headline in the Daily Planet. Lex tells Jimmy that will never happen and then he suddenly reaches inside his coat. But Jimmy is faster and shoots Lex at point blank range with the gun Lana gave him and Lex falls to the ground showing Jimmy he was just reaching for his cigarette case and he says "Gardenia", then he dies! Jimmy runs away as suddenly the police arrive with sirens blaring.
Back in the Daily Planet newsroom the place goes wild with the word of the infamous Lex Luthor's murder and Chloe runs up to the switchboard operator who gives her the news about Lex. Chloe purposely spills the woman's coffee and tells her to go clean up and she'll take over the switchboard while she does. Chloe listens to the patrolman on the phone describe Lex's killer and she recognizes the description as Jimmy's. At that moment Jimmy's sitting in the Talon bar swilling drinks as Lionel Luthor says "last call". Chloe runs into the bar telling Jimmy that she thinks he was set up to kill Lex as it seems that the new reporter Clark Kent's been calling Lana Luthor regularly and it looks as if Lana just used Jimmy to get rid of Lex. Jimmy and Chloe run from the bar as Lionel Luthor calls Lana telling her of Jimmy's latest hot tip and Lana says it doesn't matter now that Lionel's back on top in the town and she's free from her suffocating marriage.
As Lana hangs up the phone we see Clark come into the room and we realize that Chloe was right about Kent and Luthor's wife being in an affair. Lana tells Clark they won't have to hide their feelings for each other much longer and she tells Clark she has something to take care of. When she leaves we see her slip a derringer in her purse and next we see Jimmy entering the now quiet newsroom of the Daily Planet. He finds Lana waiting and he tells her he knows she was using him to kill Lex and the cops are going to take him down for the murder. But Lana says it'll never happen and lifts up her derringer and fires point blank at Jimmy! As she fires, a shot goes off from in back of Lana who falls dead on a chair as Clark walks up behind her with a hot gat in his hand! Jimmy rises from where he has fallen and takes the cigarette case from his pocket that has the still smoking bullet in its cover which stopped Jimmy from being rubbed out by Lana. Clark tells Jimmy he should have known better then to get mixed up with a dame while on a case and he then shows Jimmy a badge while telling him he's an undercover cop working for the Metropolis Police. He was assigned to watch Lex but then found himself in love with Lana and he tells Jimmy he's going to fry for killing Lex.
Clark leads Jimmy away just as reporters run down the stairs to take pictures of Lex Luthor's killer being led into custody. Then as a camera's flashbulb goes off in Jimmy's face, he wakes up at his desk back in modern day Metropolis as our picture goes back to color. Chloe tells Jimmy that the picture of the fleeing mugger has been removed from his computer. Jimmy then scrolls through the pictures he took of the crime scene and when he sees the cigarette case in the pictures he says, "Gardenia" as the case has a picture of the flower etched on its cover. Then he goes over to the elevator and sees the cigarette case is missing from the scene and he tells Chloe that as Lana doesn't smoke there must have been something inside it. He says that he thinks Lana wasn't there to visit them the night of the shooting and thinks that she was there to show someone else what was inside the case. They check the elevator's memory and go to the floor it shows the lift was on when Lana used it. When they go to that floor they find it's where the political correspondents are in the building and now the mystery deepens.
They see from the building's computer records that the only political reporter in the building when Lana was shot was a man named Brennan. Jimmy picks the man's office lock and they enter the room searching for clues. Suddenly Brennan enters the room and he tells them that he was supposed to meet Lana that night but he doesn't know what she wanted to show him. He says that Lana never met him and then when he heard the gunshot he raced to the scene and simply panicked when he thought his story wouldn't be accepted by the police and that's why he ran from Jimmy and Chloe. As he talks a shot comes through the door shattering its glass and Brennan falls to the floor mortally wounded. Jimmy races out the door as he tells Chloe to call 911 and he catches up to the assassin in the hallway. As he grapples with the man trying to wrestle his gun from him, Chloe instead has called Clark and then she runs out to help Jimmy. But the man shoves Chloe over a nearby railing just before Jimmy knocks him out with a roundhouse right to the jaw. Chloe plummets to certain death and just before she strikes the floor several stories down, Clark super-speeds into the room catching Chloe in the nick of time!
Jimmy runs down to Chloe and Clark has already placed her on a nearby couch so Jimmy will think it broke her fall. As she and Jimmy hug each other in relief, Clark stands in the shadows as Chloe mouths "thank you" to him and then he slips away unseen. Back at her apartment Lois arrives only to be greeted by Lionel Luthor and one of his security men and Lionel tells her he saw her take the cigarette case. She insists she didn't take the case so Lionel has his security man take Lois's purse from her and they find the case inside it. Lionel explains it belonged to his wife Lillian who was fond of gardenias and he opens the case to find a computer flash drive in it. He plugs it into Lois's laptop and it plays security video of Lex and Senator Burke discussing Lex's Project Ares and the Senator says that he's nervous about all the funding he's misappropriated for Lex and the project. Lois tells Lionel she knows he didn't suspect that Lex was working with the Senator and that Lana seems to have fooled both Lex and Lionel in this matter. Lionel cautions Lois telling her that whoever's protecting Senator Burke in the affair was willing to kill the wife of a Luthor to cover it up so they won't think twice about killing Lois and then he and his man leave.
Lana is waking up in her hospital bed as Chloe enters her room telling her she's had a close call and that she feels it wasn't Lex who ordered her death as he would never hurt Lana. Lana then says that Lionel has been making her spy on Lex and that she went to the papers with what she found so she could expose the Luthors and then escape their grasp. Lionel needed someone close to Lex to spy on him and then Chloe realizes that Lana was forced into her marriage with Lex by Lionel just for that purpose. Then Lana tells Chloe that she went through with the marriage to protect Clark from whatever weakness Lionel has discovered and would use against him. Lana tells Chloe that whatever that weakness is she can't tell Clark what's going on as his life depends on her not revealing the truth to him as Lionel would attack Clark and kill him. Later at the Daily Planet, Clark is upset because Chloe won't help him track down who wanted Lana hurt and Chloe tells Clark that there are good reasons for him not to know the whole truth.
She tells Clark that he's kept his secrets to protect Lana in the past and that's what Lana is doing now by not confiding in him. Clark knows that Lex would never hurt Lana and he rightly concludes that Lionel Luthor is the only other person that would manipulate Lana in this manner. Lex stands over Lana in her hospital room and kisses her while she sleeps and then he walks away to talk to his security man who tells Lex that the gunman who shot Brennan the reporter was killed while he was in the county jail. The man then shocks Lex by telling him the gun found at the scene was an unregistered one that was kept by Lex for protection and had gone missing. The man thinks Lana stole the gun for use in protecting herself and that she tried to use it against her assailant and lost the fight that night. Lex says that Lana's never carried a gun before and he wonders what could have frightened her enough to make her steal one from him.
In the alley in back of the Talon coffee shop Chloe meets with Jimmy who tells her he's leaving town on an assignment he's gotten due to all the publicity Jimmy got after he caught the gunman that night in the Daily Planet. Jimmy tells Chloe that his dream about Lana and Lionel working together and Clark having a secret identity as a crime fighter seems too far-fetched to believe and Chloe has to hide her feelings about Jimmy knowing more of the truth then he realizes. Then Jimmy turns some music on and we again hear Lois singing the song from Jimmy's dream. He sets up a camera and it takes a picture of the couple just as Jimmy bends Chloe back and kisses her. And as the picture again turns to black and white and then fades, we wonder how Project Ares is going to affect everyone as it seems to already endangered Lana and Clark just to keep its secrets.

Our Story:
In orbit far above the Earth a Luthorcorp satellite turns and as a light comes on in its side the huge space traveler aims directly at a spot in the middle of the country, Kansas to be exact. Far below, in a secret 33.1 lab run by Lex Luthor for research on people who have gained special powers due to kryptonite radiation, a scientist busily types at a computer terminal as alarms blare and Lex himself walks the hallways of the research center. Lex's security man reports to him that there's a security breach and hired soldiers run about preparing a defensive front to stop the invader with Lex himself ordering them to shoot to kill. Lex enters the lab and the scientist tells him that he's tracking the intruder on his screen and that the invader is getting closer to them in increments of mere seconds. On the security monitors we see soldiers flung aside like toys as they shoot at an unseen target with seemingly no effect. The security man counts down the intruder's approach in meters with Lex finally pulling out a gun and standing at the door waiting for the assailant's imminent arrival. The door creaks in complaint but is easily hurled open by the still unseen enemy. From the intruder's viewpoint we see Lex shown in infrared as Lex empties his pistol with the bullets all bouncing off an unseen force field. Suddenly the intruder becomes visible as a tall man in a black jumpsuit who grabs Lex's gun from his hands and aims it back at Lex proclaiming, "Mission accomplished, awaiting further instructions". As Lex retrieves his gun, he turns to the scientist and the security man saying the test is a complete success and he wants fresh guards to run the test again!
Later at his mansion, Lex enters the den to find his wife Lana arranging flowers. They talk quietly and Lana winces as Lex touches her shoulder, a reminder of her recent gunshot wound. Lex?s security man interrupts them and tells Lex that Senator Burke has arrived and Lex asks Lana to leave the room for a short while. Senator Burke tells Lex he wants an update on Project Ares and Lex tells him the prototype is nearly ready to launch. The Senator says that his sources tell him the project is even further along then that and also that he's learned that Lex is already gearing up for mass production instead of just one prototype model. Lex says he's just planning for the future but the Senator then tells Lex that he's also found out Lex has a security leak which Lex says he'll handle. Lex reminds the Senator he's received millions in his Cayman Island account but the Senator says despite that he's shutting down Project Ares with Lex responding that's foolish of the Senator. The Senator tells Lex he'll make trouble for both Lex and Luthorcorp if Lex doesn't shut the project down and then he leaves. And we see that Lana was standing in the hallway listening to every word. Next we see Lionel Luthor, Lex's father, sitting in his office looking at the video of a couple filming a documentary in Patagonia. The couple suddenly is killed by a lightning fast beast that appears over a hilltop and pounces on the hapless couple without mercy.
Lionel freezes the screen and we can then make out that the attacker is actually one of the Phantom Zone's escaped prisoners dressed in tattered rags. As he watches the frozen image, Lionel makes notes on a piece of paper in the lost language of Krypton! Clark Kent enters the office asking Lionel why Lana changed her mind and went through with her marriage to Lex, but Lionel claims no involvement in the matter. But before he leaves, Clark warns the elder Luthor that if he finds out differently about the marriage he won't be gentle in his future dealings with him. At the Talon coffee shop in Smallville, Lois Lane brings her cousin Chloe a hot coffee to cheer her up as she misses Jimmy since he left on assignment. Clark comes in as Lois leaves telling them she's got a hot lead on a story involving a Senator. Clark tells Chloe that Lionel refuses comment on Lex and Lana's marriage and Clark also feels that Chloe's covering up the truth about it too. Chloe responds that Lana's staying in the marriage for her own reasons and Clark must learn to accept that. In an alleyway in back of a Metropolis restaurant, Lois is waiting when Senator Burke arrives for dinner. She questions him about the five million in his Cayman Island accounts when he supposedly makes $150,000 as a Senator. When Lois identifies herself as a reporter for the Inquisitor, Senator Burke laughs her off stating she's only a tabloid writer he has no time for. As Senator Burke's bodyguards drag Lois away, suddenly one grabs at his neck which suddenly spurts blood and the man falls dead!
Then the other guard is brutally thrown into the limousines' windshield like a rag doll, but there's no sign of the attacker. Senator Burke picks up his fallen guard's gun but then he's stabbed in the back and he falls to the ground dead just as his attacker finally becomes visible holding a knife. Lois is sitting on the ground and she is shocked to recognize the black jump-suited attacker calling him "Wes." The man starts for Lois but approaching sirens stop him. He blurs into invisibility and super-speeds away leaving a shocked Lois in his wake! Later Clark enters the Daily Planet to find the newsroom abuzz with the news of Senator Burke's death. Chloe says it's believed to be a mob killing but Lois thinks otherwise. She tells Clark that she saw the assassin and she knows him from her days as an army brat and that the man's name is Wes Keenan. Clark relates the mob hit theory and Lois tells him that Wes Keenan is a highly decorated career military man who would never work for the mob. Then Chloe comes up with a military record that claims that Keenan was killed in a helicopter crash four months ago in Afghanistan. Lois insists she saw Keenan and Chloe tells them that his military records have been sealed as classified. At the 33.1 lab, Lex's security man enters telling him that Burke has been killed and per Lex's instructions the evidence trail leads to the mob. But Lex is chagrined to hear that a witness to Burke's murder exists and Lex tells the man to take care of it and he leaves.
The security man tells the scientist to prep Keenan for his mission to eliminate the witness, and the man enters commands into his keyboard that cause the eyes of the sleeping Keenan to open. Martha Kent and Clark are getting Lois settled in back at the Kent farm hoping to keep her safe from Senator Burke's killer. Lois then asks Martha Kent to try and get her Keenan's classified files using her connections as a state senator and Martha says she'll try and leaves. Clark wants Lois to back off the story but Lois tells Clark that she and Wes were close once and on that basis she's going after the truth. Then they hear a noise in the back of the barn but when Lois and Clark head towards it they see only a rocking chair slowly rocking in the breeze from the open door. Clark turns away just as Wes Keenan materializes out of thin air and Lois shouts a warning to Clark as the man appears. Keenan hits Clark with a left hand to his chest that hurls Clark twenty feet away dazing him. Then Keenan speeds to Lois and raises his knife for the kill as Lois shouts his name at him. The man freezes at the sound of his name and he turns realizing that Clark's recovering from his blow. Keenan grabs Lois just as Clark looks over and sees Lois and the man vanish together before he can even rise from the barn floor to stop him. Clark meets Chloe at the Talon and tells her of Lois abduction and that the man exhibited several meteor based powers. Chloe tells Clark that she's found out that the woman who recently tried to kill Lex in his underground tunnel complex was Wes Keenan's wife Jodi.
They deduce that Jodi Keenan found out her husband didn't really die in Afghanistan and followed the trail which ultimately led to Lex Luthor and his 33.1 experiments. They know according to Lois's description that Keenan is being mind-controlled and that Lois is in great danger. Clark tells Chloe to contact the Green Arrow whose team has been attacking 33.1 labs worldwide and in the meantime he'll go to find more information. At the Luthor mansion Lex has lit several candles hoping to set a romantic mood but Lana isn't responsive. A knock at the door comes from Lex's security man telling him that the asset has failed to return which Lana overhears and Lex then excuses himself. When he leaves, Clark super-speeds into the room behind Lana telling her that Lois has been captured. Lana tells Clark she's overheard Lex and Senator Burke discussing a military project called Ares and then Clark tells Lana that Burke has been killed. Lana also tells Clark about the "asset" failing to return and Clark remarks that asset is a term the military uses to describe soldiers. Clark asks Lana why she went through with her marriage to Lex, and Lana tells Clark that people sometimes keep secret to protect those they care about. Clark is about to kiss Lana when Lex returns and Clark speeds from the room unseen. Lex tells Lana that something's come up and he must return to the office and for her not to wait up for him. At that moment Lois is waking up in a warehouse to see Wes Keenan who she addresses by name. But Wes says that's an incorrect designation and refers to himself as Ares Prototype Mark IV. Lois tries to jog his memory telling him that they knew each other years ago when her father General Sam Lane was stationed at Fort Addleson.
She recalls how they both stole some whiskey from her father and snuck into a storage warehouse on base and that Wes was the first person she ever kissed. Lois reminds him that he got sick from drinking and passed out falling down giving himself the scar over his eye he carries to this day. At this Wes merely says, "Mission incomplete, eliminate target". But Lois won't give up and tells Wes that he has bought her back to the very warehouse at Fort Addleson they were in all those years ago and that must mean that he retains some real part of his mind despite what Luthorcorp has done to him. Wes shakes his head in confusion but when he looks up at Lois there is recognition in his eyes. Back in his 33.1 lab Lex is telling the Doctor to get Wes back but the man reminds Lex that instilling meteor based powers and using the alien fighter Titan's (As seen in the episode "Combat") genes to splice with Wes' human genes is an uncertain process at best. Lex rebuffs the scientist reminding him that criminals with meteor abilities are appearing more and more and this project may be humanity's last hope against these super-powered felons. The Doctor says he'll use Luthorcorp satellites to broadcast a pulse that may reset Wes' programming making him obey commands once more. As Lex and his security man leave the lab, the doctor starts typing at his keyboard and once again we see the satellite position itself to aim at Kansas.
Wes tells Lois how he was in Afghanistan when an explosion injured him and then Luthor approached in a military hospital. He says Lex didn't force him into the Ares project but that Wes volunteered for it in the hope that what was learned could help other soldiers from getting hurt. As he talks suddenly the satellite pulse reaches him and the Ares programming starts to reassert itself. Wes looks at Lois and tells her to run as he's losing control of his actions and Lois flees for her life. As she does, Wes' eyes go dead once again and he looks for Lois as he disappears in a blur. Clark and Chloe enter the Kent farmhouse talking about how Lex has used Wes to create some kind of super soldier that uses meteor based powers. Chloe has talked to Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, who related to her that his Justice team has met and defeated a previous Ares prototype by employing a miniature nuclear device to break his force field. Martha Kent arrives with Wes' classified file she obtained by trading in favors with her political counterparts. In the file Clark discovers that Wes grew up at Fort Addleson which is a decommissioned base outside of Metropolis and we know that is indeed where Wes returned to when his programming started to fail. Clark super-speeds from the room hoping to save Lois before the programmed killer harms her. Lois is on the run at that moment and Wes cuts her off by locking a door in front of her while he's invisible. She slowly talks to her unseen stalker but his programming has taken over and her grabs Lois by the throat and lifts her in the air to choke the life from her.
Clark races into the warehouse and catches the falling Lois as she collapses to the ground. He gently puts Lois down and stands there wondering where his opponent is and we see from Wes' point of view that the invisible super soldier is right in front of Clark. Wes rams an arm straight into Clark's chest knocking him across the room straight through the warehouse's supporting pillars. Clark lies on the ground gathering his strength waiting for Wes' next move. Then he sees Wes appear across the room and the Luthorcorp super soldier charges at Clark at super-speed with his knife in hand for a killing blow. But Clark knows that he cannot hold back and as Wes charges him he waits for him to leap into the air and at that exact moment Clark fires his heat-vision full strength. The crimson bolts ram into Wes' chest knocking him backwards as if he were struck by a tank. He collapses on the floor in a smoking heap as Lois regains her senses and rushes to her old friend's side. Wes looks at Lois and aloud he says a multi-numbered protocol which will shut his system down. He tells Lois it's for the best and for her not to let Lex do this to anyone else. His eyes shut and his body grows still as the solider dies a hero's death a second time, this death being a final one for the gallant warrior. Clark stands in the shadows out of Lois's sight as grief-stricken at this selfless act of heroism as Lois is. Afterwards at the Kent farm, Clark asks Martha Kent to investigate the affair but she replies that State Senators don't wield enough power for this type of matter. Then Lionel Luthor comes in the door telling Martha Kent that he has conferred with the Governor and he has agreed to let Martha Kent serve out Senator Burke's term as a United States Senator until the next election.
Clark tells his mother that she and Pa Kent raised him to use his powers for others without thought of personal gain and that this would be a fine way for his mother to continue in that vein. Clark also tells Martha Kent that he'll lease out the back 40 acres of the farm as Ben Hubbard, their neighbor farmer, has always wanted to work that land and that way Clark can continue running the rest of the Kent farm. As they speak, Lex is arranging for Wes' body to be returned to his 33.1 lab. Lex hangs up as Lana comes in and he tells her he knows she was eavesdropping on him and Lex tells her he won't keep any secrets from her as all she has to do is ask him in the future. Lex also warns her that if she ever betrayed him he doesn't know what he would do and Lana assures him she would never hurt the man she loves, though we doubt it's Lex she's speaking about. Chloe is pleased when Clark tells her his mother is headed for Washington as a Senator but her joy is cut short when Lois comes in telling them that Wes' body has disappeared from the morgue. But Lois tells Clark and Chloe that Lex has made an enemy in her for using her old friend this way, and she intends to go after Lex with everything she has in the future.
Back at the 33.1 lab, the Doctor tells Lex that they've exhausted all of the alien DNA they extracted from the Phantom Zone warrior Titan. But Lex is undeterred and tells the Doctor it's not the end of Project Ares but only the beginning. He steps over to a glass window and throws a switch that illuminates the sealed off room. And inside we are shocked to see row after row of stacked bodies that Lex is preparing to create more super soldiers from. Lex has started down a long and dark path and as far as he's concerned there's no going back now.

Our Story:
In a cabin in a remote section of Quebec Canada a woman is soaking rags to tend to her sick father when a knock comes at the door. She opens the door and we see the being we know to be the Martian Manhunter who helped Clark when he was trapped by a Phantom Zone prisoner's consciousness. (See Episode 6.12: Labyrinth) He insists he is there to help save the girl's father so she allows him to enter the man's bedroom. A priest is praying in French to try and exorcise the demon which has seemingly inhabited her father's body. The stricken man's eyes snap open to reveal nothing but blackness as J'onn J'onzz's eyes glow red at the sight of the possessed man. The man sits up from his sick bed and he suddenly thrusts his hand straight into J'onn's abdomen pulling out an organ while he hisses at J'onn who writhes in pain. J'onn hits the man hard with a strong right hand but the man's response is to hit J'onn back with a hard left backhand which propels the Martian right through the cabin's roof and then J'onn flees flying through the night sky leaving a red trail behind him. Then black clad assault teams swarm in through the windows and doors as a helicopter hovers overhead.
Lex Luthor enters the cabin telling the men not to shoot as he needs the man alive to trap whatever is inside him. The cornered man hisses at his new opponents and as Lex stares at him, the man's chest bursts open splashing Lex and the soldiers with his blood. Then we see the Phantom Zone villain dressed in tattered rags fly from the man's chest and through the cabin's shattered roof into the night sky while Lex and his men can only gape in surprise! Lex returns to his mansion and calls an operative explaining that the entity cannot survive in a human body for more then 24 hours and to look for the black eyes which signify the creature's possession of a person. Lex's father Lionel enters the room and Lex tells him he knows that Lana stole a DVD showing the death of a couple killed by the Phantom Zone creature and gave it to Lionel. Lex tells his father that he knows Lana loves him and that Lionel must have coerced her into stealing from him. Lionel replies that he forced Lana to marry Lex and she doesn't really love Lex at all. Lex is furious at that and tells his father to get out of his life for good but Lionel tells Lex he's not going anywhere.
At the Kent farm, Clark and Martha Kent are sharing a sad farewell as Martha Kent is leaving for Washington, D.C. to assume her new duties as a U.S. Senator representing Kansas. Martha tells Clark she hates leaving but that Clark shouldn't feel he has to stay and take care of the farm since she knows how it hurts her son to see Lana and Lex married to each other. But Clark insists that the farm is his home and then Martha Kent's new aide enters telling her it's time to leave. Mother and son share words of love and part from each other with tears in their eyes. Chloe enters the apartment she shares over the Talon coffee shop with her cousin Lois Lane as Lois is working to find the meaning of a series of numbers that Wes Keenan told her before he died. (In Episode 6.21: Prototype) Chloe warns Lois that trying to dig up dirt on the Luthors could prove to be a fatal mistake and Lois tears up the sheet with the numbers telling Chloe she'll back off the potential story which relieves Chloe's worries. Chloe leaves for work at the Daily Planet in Metropolis and Lois picks up the torn paper and putting in degree marks makes the numbers appear obvious as Longitude and Latitude coordinates.
Lex enters his hidden 33.1 lab in time to see the latest victim of the Phantom Zone criminal being wheeled in dead. Lex explains that he needs living DNA from the alien to complete his army of super-soldiers and he wants it immediately. He step to a shuttered window and throwing a switch we see row after row of stacked bodies waiting for the alien DNA to complete them and give Lex the army he wants to combat beings with meteor powers. Back at the Kent farm Clark enters his barn loft to find Lana Luthor waiting and she tells Clark she's decided to leave Lex. Clark is happy at this news as he still loves Lana very much but his joy is cut short when Lana tells him that Lex will be furious over her decision and she has to leave Smallville to escape his wrath. Clark swears he can protect Lana against Lex or anyone else and he then tells her the truth about his powers and his alien origin as the last son of the planet Krypton. Lana tells Clark she loves him as just plain Clark Kent despite this news and then she says that Lionel Luthor forced her to marry Lex by threatening to kill Clark if she didn't wed his son. Next we see Lionel Luthor on an elevator trying to call Martha Kent to congratulate her on her Senatorial appointment and as the elevator door opens he's greeted by a very angry Clark Kent.
Clark tosses Lionel into the Luthorcorp building's aisle like a rag doll and then holds Lionel in the air one-handed telling him he's tired of Lionel's games and he's now going to do what he should have done long ago. As Lionel begs for his life he tells Clark about the Phantom Zone wraith that Lex is trying to find but Clark doesn't care and raises his powerful right hand to kill Lionel. Then J'onn J'onzz super-speeds into the hallway grabbing Clark's arm telling him that Lionel is actually an ally and also an emissary of Clark's biological father Jor-El! At this shocking news Clark drops Lionel from his grip and turns to J'onn. Lex has just received news that his men have captured the Phantom Zone prisoner and are bringing the host body and the wraith inside it back to Lex's lab. As he starts to leave, Lana enters the room telling Lex she's leaving him. Lex accuses Lana of lying about loving him from the start and Lana fires back that she knows about Lex faking her pregnancy by injecting her with hormones but Lex denies any knowledge of such a plot. He insists he really loves Lana but she doesn't believe him and says their marriage is over.
Lex wants to know if it's Clark that Lana really cares about and tells her that Clark is a greater liar then he is. Lana tells Lex that Clark means more to her then Lex ever will and at that Lex backhands Lana across the face drawing blood from her mouth and dooming any chance of a reconciliation. Lex tells Lana he'll never let her leave him and Lana says the only way Lex can stop her is to kill her and then she storms out of the room. At Luthorcorp Lionel Luthor tells Clark that when Zod possessed Lex that Lionel was also possessed with the full knowledge of Jor-El and he's been trying to protect Clark all this time. He used the Kryptonian symbol of power and J'onn tells Clark it was a beacon that Jor-El once used to signal J'onn whenever he needed his help. J'onn explains he once worked for Jor-El on Krypton using his powers to capture criminals and that when Krypton was about to be destroyed, Jor-El asked J'onn to keep a watchful eye over his son to protect him. He says he's been in hiding all these years doing just that until he emerged from hiding due to the Phantom Zone prisoners escaping and he felt he must more actively protect Clark.
Clark notices the gaping hole in J'onn's stomach left by the Phantom Zone wraith's attack and says he must leave Earth's atmosphere to heal completely. Clark says he'll use the crystal Raya gave him to capture the wraith but Lionel tells Clark that this Phantom is the result of a Kryptonian lab experiment and much too powerful for Clark to battle. He then says that the wraith wants Clark's Kryptonian body for a host as human bodies are burned out in 24 hours from the wraith's power. Clark insists he is the only one who can stop the wraith and at that Lionel and J'onn fall silent in tacit agreement. Lois has arrived at Reeves Dam using the coordinates she got from Wes Keenan and she doesn't know that this is where Lex's latest 33.1 lab is concealed. Clark has gotten Chloe to help find the wraith and they discover that an 8 year old boy matching the wraith symptoms was kidnapped from a hospital and taken away by a black helicopter. Clark knows that this must mean Lex has the wraith he's been searching for at last. He tells Chloe that he has told Lana all his secrets and that Lana is leaving Lex which surprises Chloe, but Clark then says his first priority must be the capture of the wraith.
Lois finds an entrance into the Reeves dam and meets a guard who tells her to leave. But Lois won't go and the man pulls a gun on her and she counters by attacking the man knocking the gun from his hands. He responds by pulling a knife and the two struggle to best the other when the man suddenly stabs Lois in the stomach! Lois knocks the man out with her last bit of strength and then she painfully pulls the knife from her bleeding abdomen. She calls Chloe on her cell phone but only manages to say her cousin's name before she collapses in the hallway succumbing to her wound! Lionel is now in his limo being driven to meet Lana who he's talking to on his phone as she tells him she's leaving Lex and never coming back. His car turns a corner and he sees Lana running to enter her vehicle. A truck passes in between them for a second and after it does, Lionel is blown off his feet as Lana's vehicle explodes from a bomb blast that no one could possibly live through! Later, Clark enters Luthor mansion telling Lionel that Lex has kidnapped the wraith possessed boy, and Lionel shocks Clark when he tells him of seeing Lana die from the bomb blast. Clark is seething with hatred and super-speeds from the room to find Lex.
Chloe has tracked Lois to the tunnel under Reeves dam and she's shocked to find her cousin dead from her knife wound. She tries to revive Lois but has no success and weeps over Lois' body. But when her tear falls on Lois's forehead, Chloe's latent meteor ability becomes active and energy swirls through and around the two women in a blinding display. As the energy fades, we see Lois awaken and she's surprised to see that her wound is completely healed. But her joy is short lived as she looks across the aisle to see Chloe sitting there looking ghostly pale and now it appears as if Chloe has sacrificed her own life to save Lois! Lex enters the 33.1 lab to find the possessed and unconscious boy lying in a sealed room with a window. He knows the Phantom's 24 hours in the body are almost up so he tells his scientist to draw the boy's blood which he does and a vial is filled from a tube in the boy's arm. Lex's scientist takes a drop of the blood and examines it under a microscope telling Lex they have procured the alien DNA they need and it looks as if Lex will have his super soldier army. But with a crash of glass Lex turns and is startled to see the possessed boy killing his security man and then the creature turns towards Lex and his scientist.
Lex throws his scientist in the Phantom's path as he flees the room locking the steel door behind him. We hear the scientist's final screams as the alien tears him to shreds and then drags the man's body to the door and presses the dead man's thumb against the key lock panel to open it as Lex runs for his life. Lionel Luthor approaches the complex in his limo and he opens a box containing Kryptonite he intends to use against the Phantom Zone wraith. As he arrives, Clark speeds past him racing to find Lex and he does find him fleeing for his life. Clark grabs Lex insisting that he is responsible for the bomb that killed Lana, but Lex acts as if he's just as shocked as Clark at this news. The door at the hallway's end flies open and Lex tells Clark the black eyed boy will kill them both and the possessed child agrees. The fiend is pleased that he has a Kryptonian to possess at last and flies towards Clark as Lex stumbles from the scene. The being seemingly flies straight through Clark who is hurled right through the wall into the dam's turbine room. When Clark rises he's shocked to see a duplicate of himself in clothing just like he's wearing but all black.
The Phantom tells Clark he's used a bit of his DNA to create this new host body and now he intends to kill Clark who he grabs by the throat and punches him into one of the giant turbines in a shower of sparks. As this happens, Lex is driving his car over the bridge of the complex to get away but the authorities surround him on the bridge and then handcuff Lex telling him he's under arrest for the murder of Lana Luthor! Clark is being beaten all over the turbine room as the super powered combat begins to take its toll on the dam and its tunnels. Clark speeds up behind the phantom duplicate of himself and with a terrific right hurls the fake Clark into the turbines causing pipes to burst everywhere. Lois covers Chloe's body with her own as the hallway starts to collapse with water poring in from pipes bursting. Lionel races through the tunnels as they fall hoping to reach the Phantom with the Kryptonite he carries. Suddenly the wall in front of him shatters as he sees what he thinks is Clark hurling through it. He helps the evil Clark to get up but then he's surprised when the real Clark appears behind him telling him that the black clad Clark is actually the rouge Phantom.
Lionel takes out the Kryptonite and rams it into the Phantom's chest and the meteor rock glows with green energy which at first seems to hurt the demon. But the rock then suddenly turns white and all the energy seems to pour from it into the evil Clark who thanks Lionel telling him it's just what he needed. The Phantom then hurls Lionel aside with a swat of his hand and the elder Luthor falls unconscious into the collapsing hallway as the rising waters threaten to drown him. Clark asks the Phantom what he is and the Phantom replies he's simply a more bizarre version of Clark. Then the two race at each other at supersonic speed and when they ram into each other the resulting explosion of power hastens the entire collapse of the dam and its infrastructure. Clark flies out from the collapsing dam out of control and as he hurls through the air he's followed by the flying form of his evil duplicate who is grinning in delight. As the bizarre version of Clark flies his skin suddenly turns chalky white and cracks form all over his face completing the transformation into a totally evil creature whose only aim seems to be complete destruction of Clark and anyone who dares to oppose him!
