Aired in the U.S.A.: 09.24.02

Roles & Actors this episode:
Clark Kent: Tom Welling
Jonathan Kent: John Schneider
Martha Kent: Annette O'Toole
Lana Lang: Kristen Kreuk
Lex Luthor: Michael Rosenbaum
Lionel Luthor: John Glover
Roger Nixon: Tom O'Brien
Pete Ross: Sam Jones III

Our Story:
A sneaky reporter who Lex Luthor first alerted to then warned away from the Kents has seen first-hand Clark's abilities and even worse gets his spaceship on film as a tornado roars towards the Kent farm. Jonathan Kent runs out after him even as Martha Kent sees Clark's spaceship open up and float in front of her! Lex's mansion was in the tornado's path and Lex is inside watching his Father beg for help as he's trapped under a huge fallen column! After dropping Whitney off to catch his bus for basic training in the Marine Corps, Lana is caught by the deadly tornado while driving home. Clark runs off from Chloe at the Spring Formal to find Lana in her truck just as it's sucked into the maelstrom of the tornado. He screams her name and jumps into the twister after her!
From the Kent farm, the spaceship that brought Clark to Earth races through the Kansas sky straight into the tornado. It's thrown around the interior of the funnel violently until the eight-sided disk that activated it finally falls free from the ship and it goes dark and plunges from the sky. Lana lies on the trucks floor as the vehicle flies though the air and is being torn apart around her. Her terror and shock are only compounded when she sees Clark appear and then float toward her and grabbing ahold of the trucks frame, he jumps in over top of her to protect her. She passes out as the truck continues disintegrating with she and Clark both screaming in fear as it plunges towards the ground!
Lex stands there looking at his Father and eventually decides to drag him from the wreckage just before a jutting beam falls to the very spot Lionel Luthor was trapped in. As that occurs, Jonathan Kent chases Roger Nixon through the night and the storm for the camera and film he carries. They run into an old graveyard and Jonathan Kent and the reporter struggle for the camera which Nixon throws away. Jonathan runs to the camera but Nixon has kept the film so Jonathan starts after him again. But then he looks up and sees the impossible made real as a house trailer is falling from the sky and heading right for the reporter and himself! He spots a tomb stairwell nearby and grabs Nixon and throws them both down the stairs just as the trailer crashes on the very spot where they stood. They tumble down the stairs into the now destroyed tomb's center with the smashed remains of the trailer sealing them underground! And Clark stands over Lana in a field strewn with debris from the storm. He is trying to awaken her as we see the twister dissipate in the distance, but Lana isn't moving!
Clark races Lana to the already overcrowded hospital where she starts to awaken and is declared shaken up but okay. He then runs to the farm and finds his Mother stunned in the storm cellar but all right also. Then he finds out his Father is missing chasing Nixon who'll expose Clark, and he looks in the corner to see the spaceship is gone! Lionel Luthor is diagnosed as having injuries to his spine and legs, but he also has severe optic nerve damage and Lex feels guilty about pausing to help him earlier. Back in the underground tomb, Jonathan helps free Nixon of some debris trapping him and starts to talk to him about keeping Clark safe from exposure. Meanwhile Lana sees Chloe at the hospital where she tells her she was told that it was Clark that bought her there but she cannot figure out how she survived the tornado. Chloe is glad Lana's okay, but she's upset that Clark left her to go find Lana. And Lex's father tells him he knows Lex wanted him to die and Lex asks his forgiveness for hesitating before saving him.
Lex volunteers to help Clark look for his father. Jonathan and Nixon argue over whether Clark should be made a public figure. Jonathan tells Nixon it will be Clark's decision if he ever wishes his abilities made public, and he tells him how he and Martha Kent have always feared that Clark would be taken from them. Lex calls Nixon on his cell phone but when Jonathan hears Nixon talking to Lex, he grabs and breaks his phone to stop them from working together to exploit Clark. Clark hears Lex talking to Nixon and doubts his sincerity as he lied about knowing the reporter earlier. He tells Lex to leave him alone and runs off to find his Father by himself.
The next morning Clark and Martha meet Lana at the Talon, the coffeehouse that's being used as the tornado relief center. It's been 12 hours and still no sign of Jonathan Kent. Lana tells Clark she thought she saw him come to save her from the tornado while she was in the truck but Clark tells her he just found her after the storm. Jonathan Kent makes a deal with Nixon that he'll get them free if Nixon gives him the tape. Nixon reluctantly agrees and gives Jonathan the tape which he immediately destroys. Then he explains that even though the old tomb walls have a high lead content preventing Clark from seeing them, he's found a soft spot where they can tunnel out. The two men get to work at doing just that.
Lex works at regaining Clark's trust by getting him a cell phone grid map that shows within a mile where Nixon's call was received. Clark, Chloe, and Pete all go looking and actually find the trailer that crashed over Jonathan and Nixon, but as Jonathan mentioned Clark's incredible vision is blocked by the lead. But when Nixon hears Clark and the others outside leaving the spot, he frantically pounds where he's digging and starts a cave-in that buries he and Jonathan in a pile of rocks sprinkled with Kryptonite!
Martha Kent tells Lana how they got Clark right after the meteor shower and Lana tells Martha she still can't believe she survived the tornado. While they serach for his Dad, Clark apologizes to Chloe for leaving her at the dance but Chloe tells him they should cool off their relationship and just stay friends. But as they search, the air is running out rapidly for Jonathan Kent and Nixon! Lex's father's doctors are arguing wether to let him recover more or operate on his damaged optic nerves now. Lex overides them and demands that the operation take place at once, which it does.
Pete Ross uncovers older maps showing the tombs in the graveyard and he and Martha Kent and Clark return to the site to recheck under the trailer. They realize that it's where Jonathan Kent is trapped and Martha and Pete run to organize a rescue squad. After they leave, Clark runs to the site, throws the trailer off the tomb and runs into the underground chamber where he's stricken at once by the kryptonite inside! Nixon ignores an injured Jonathan's pleas to help get Clark away from the glowing rocks. Instead he stuffs a piece of kryptonite in Clark's jacket and starts to drag the helpless young man from the tomb as a hostage for his story! When an already injured Jonathan Kent chases after him, Nixon easily overpowers him. Then the unscrupulous reporter picks up a jagged length of metal from some wreckage and standing over Jonathan Kent he prepares to stab him to save his story about Clark. But a shot rings out and Nixon falls dead to the ground before he can hurt Jonathan. And then we see it is Lex Luthor who just shot Nixon to save Jonathan Kent's life!
An ambulance crew later tends to Jonathan's injuries and Jonathan tells Clark that Nixon said Lex hired him to investigate them while Clark contends that he believes Lex when he says the opposite. When Lex walks up to them Jonathan Kent swallows his pride and thanks Lex for saving his life. And when Lex asks if they can make a fresh start, the two men actually shake hands on it! Chloe sits back at school crying over her lost opportunity with Clark and wondering if the damage can be repaired between them.
Clark later tells his parents when he was caught in the tornado, he thinks he actually made himself move closer to Lana's truck by flying to it. They all ponder this strange and frightening possibility. And Lex's Father calls him into his room to tell him that the operation that Lex ordered has blinded his Father and he blames Lex who is stricken by the news. Lana goes to visit Clark in his barn loft and she again tells him she thinks he somehow saved her from the tornado which he again denies. But as she leaves Lana tells Clark he can't hide out here in the barn forever, letting him know she suspects more about him now. And then we see the the back pasture of a distant cornfield that has a new occupant, Clark's spaceship.

Directed By: James Marshall
Produced By: Bob Hargrove
Aired in the U.S.A.: 10.01.02

Desiree Atkins: Krista Allen
Clark Kent: Tom Welling
Jonathan Kent: John Schneider
Martha Kent: Annette O'Toole
Lana Lang: Kristen Kreuk
Lex Luthor: Michael Rosenbaum
Pete Ross: Sam Jones III
Chloe Sullivan: Allison Mack

Our Story:
School has started and Lana is taping video messages from Pete, Clark, and the gang for Whitney who's completed basic training and is now shipping out. There's a heat wave that's relentlessly pounding the area and the air conditioning naturally breaks at school making Biology class unbearable. Until Miss Atkins, the attractive young new teacher introduces herself to the class that is. Suddenly all males in the class have eyes only for Miss Atkins who starts the class off with the prerequesite and timeless film about reproduction for the students. Clark finds he can't take his eyes off Miss Atkins until she directs his attention back to the screen. Suddenly it feels twice as hot to Clark and his pupils actually begin to glow red and cause him physical pain! Then the air distorts slightly in the dimmed room as waves of heat fly from his eyes to the screen he's looking at causing it to burst into flames! As the class flees the room and fire alarms sound, Clark can only stand there feeling utterly confused about what just happened!
The class is assembled outside and the minor blaze is contained when Lex Luthor drives up and runs to Miss Atkins embracing her! It seems that not only is she the hottest new teacher at Smallville High, she's also Lex Luthor's fiancée! As the class is reentering the building, Lex hands Clark an invitation to the wedding which is taking place that very night. Lex wants Clark to be his Best Man and Clark accepts and asks Lex if he's sure that getting married so quickly is wise. But Lex insists his love for Desiree is total and he's committed to her.
Later back at his mansion, Lex and Desiree are discussing the pre-nuptual agreement she must sign or Lex's father will disinherit him. She leans in close to him for a kiss, and suddenly a purple mist comes from her mouth to enter Lex's mouth and nostrils. Then Lex becomes completely docile and when Desiree tells him she doesn't want to sign the agreement, he tears it into pieces and says that's fine with him! Clark gets home from school and tells Martha and Jonathan Kent about the vision incident at school. They resolve he should stay close to the house until he gets this under control, but the wedding is tonight and he must go!
The wedding takes place and in typical Luthor fashion is sumptuous. Clark runs into Chloe who's still upset over her and Clark's estrangement after he left her alone at the Spring Formal. They talk but Chloe's clearly too upset to speak for long and leaves. The next day, Clark goes to the Talon coffeeshop to tape his message to Whitney for Lana. When Lana overhears him tell Whitney he'll keep his promise to him, Lana asks what it is. He tells her that Whitney asked him to watch over Lana for him while he's gone. Then they talk about how Lex got married so fast letting passion rule him for once.
Clark and Lana are feeling the heat and she tells him she'll make him an iced coffee and turning around, she steps to the machine to prepare it. Suddenly Clark's eyes begin to glow again and before he can stop it, they burst forth in rays of heat waves and cause the cappucino machine to explode in flames. Lana screams and runs for cover as Clark's vision continues to leave a blaze of fire wherever he looks. Finally it stops and Lana comes out from under cover to call 911. And the look of horror on Clark's face tells us exactly how he feels about this latest incident!
Jonathan Kent finds Clark hiding up in his loft in the barn and he won't even look Jonathan in the eyes he's so scared by this new power he's manifesting. But Jonathan tells him that if they can figure out what starts the heat, then he can probably learn to control it. They set up a dummy on a post away from any buildings and Clark asks Jonathan to stand aside while he tries to remember what set him off. He can't recall for a second and then with a smile he says quietly, "Lana". He looks straight ahead and keeps thinking of her and his eyes glow bright and the dummy bursts into a huge ball of fire! And now at least Clark knows how it starts.
Soon his control with the heat vision is improved amazingly and Clark is doing everything from popping corn, to lighting up candles individually in his barn loft with the amazing beams of heat. Lex's new bride Desiree suddenly comes into the barn and without any preamble starts to try and seduce Clark! She runs to him and she breathes her strange mist into his mouth and nose. But when she closes in for a kiss, Clark breaks away from her declaring Lex is his best friend and he won't hurt him. She apologizes for her actions and asks Clark not to tell Lex and then runs from the barn.
Later Clark and Chloe investigate Desiree and find out her real name is Allison Sanders and she is originally from Smallville. He tells Lex who reacts angrily as Desiree told him it was Clark who tried to seduce her earlier! He asks Clark to leave and as he goes Clark tells Desiree he won't be giving up in this matter. When Lex questions Desiree about hiding her past from him, she gives him another special mist-filled kiss and then tells Lex it's time for them both to get out of Smallville! That night, she deliberately sets her own car on fire and then reports to the police it was Clark that did it. And the police come to the Kent farm and take Clark to jail on arson charges!
The next day, Lex walks ino the Talon and tells Lana he's using his buy-out option in their contract and she has 24 hours to vacate the premises! Meanwhile Jonathan Kent goes to try and reason with Desiree over her charges against Clark. But she uses the opportunity to give him a dose of her purple mists, and then she tells Jonathan she has a very special job she wants him to do! Lana and Chloe visit Clark in jail and tell him they've found out Desiree was caught in the meteor storm years ago and gained the ability to project super-pheremones which cause men to do whatever she wants. She's gone through two husbands, and spent all her money and Lex is her latest victim. Clark panics when he realizes his father was going to talk to Desiree and asks the girls to warn him. When they leave he uses his new vision to explode the fire alarm box and when Clark is let out of his cell to escape the smoke, he vanishes with a burst of super-speed!
Lex arrives home to find Desiree has had a will filled out for him in which she will inherit everything he owns. When he tells her he wants an explanation for the document, she opens the door and lets Jonathan Kent in the room. He raises a rifle he's carrying to kill Lex so she can then get all his money, and Jonathan Kent can take the blame for the murder! When Lex reaches for his phone, Jonathan Kent blasts it right off the table in front of him. Lex tries to reason with Jonathan but Desiree's pheremones are controlling him completely. He recocks his rifle for the kill when Clark speeds into the room. As Jonathan Kent takes fatal aim and fires at Lex, Lex dives for cover as the bullet flies for him. It passes in front of Clark on its way to Lex, and he stares at the bullet and knits his brow in concentration. As the bullet passes in front of him, his incredible heat vision melts it into a harmless mist as it goes by!
Jonathan Kent gets ready to fire again but Clark tackles him and uses his strength to overpower him. Desiree uses the distraction to douse Lex's back with a drink she has and then she sets him on fire with a lighter! As Lex falls in pain to the floor she runs for the door. But Clark uses his vision to heat the doorknob red-hot, and all she gets for her trouble is a scalded palm when she grabs the super-heated knob. Clark runs to Lex and uses nearby curtains to safely douse the flames and thankfully all they do is ruin his friend's shirt.
The next day all charges against Clark have been dropped and Desiree has been taken to jail. Lex comes by to tell Clark he's already got an annulment underway to dissolve the marriage, and he's also reworking his contract with Lana so she can never be thrown out again. He warns Clark not to wait forever to make his move with Lana and Clark decides to visit her at the Talon. She's about to tape her message to Whitney but she stops when Clark enters. She tells him that she feels he had something to do with the fires but he doesn't seem to want to be honest with her. He denies it, and then tells her he's not afraid of being honest. But his abilities are already building walls around Clark and he gets nervous at her probing and tells her he must leave. Lana starts to tape her message to Whitney, and with her first few words as the picture fades, it sounds as if she's going to break up with him.

Our Story:
Dr. Hamilton, who Lex has had studying the meteors that struck Smallville, is called into a meeting with Lex where he's told his services are no longer required. Hamilton is sick and twitching on his left side badly and Lex offers to pay for medical help but is refused and Hamilton storms out. He drives recklessly down the road in the dark groping for pills he takes for his condition. When he looks up he's moments from colliding head-on with a van! Hamilton slams on his brakes and the van is knocked off the road on its roof and it slides into a nearby cornfield. Pete Ross drives up on the scene just as Hamilton drives away. When Pete enters the field he finds the van's driver still strapped in and although injured he is staring straight ahead at something. When Pete looks up he and the driver both see nothing less then Clark's spaceship sitting in front of them.
The next morning Pete comes for Clark to borrow his Fathers truck. When Pete takes Clark to his ship Clark tries to convince Pete to stay quiet about his find. Pete insists they take the ship to the tool shed in back of his house and Clark reluctantly helps. Lionel Luthor has left his physical therapy regimen in Metropolis and has decided to stay with Lex for a while in an attempt to grow closer to his son but Lex is hesitant about the move. Lana's Aunt Nell has a new boyfriend she's very attracted to and when he suggests Lana moves some tables and chairs in the Talon coffeeshop Lana grudgingly agrees. She is uncomfortable with Dean and is trying to hide the fact to save her Aunt's feelings. She even uses Chloe for an excuse for leaving the other night to sleep out of the house. Chloe covers for her in front of Nell and the two grow even closer as friends as a result.
Pete and Clark leave the ship in the tool shed with Clark convincing Pete not to tell Chloe until they investigate more. He leaves and goes home to tell Martha and Jonathan of Pete's discovery. They tell him although it's distasteful, they may have to steal the ship from Pete to preserve Clark's secret. Clark is tired of lying and asks if he can confide in Pete about his abilities, but Martha and Jonathan both feel that it would be too dangerous to tell Pete the truth. An intern at the hospital calls Hamilton when he hears the accident victim's story. Hamilton pays off the intern and sneaks into the room and questions the driver who gives him Pete Ross's name! And when the driver assures Hamilton he's told no one else about the ship, Hamilton breaks into the man's Morphine drip for pain and injects the full vial into him killing him at once!
That night, Jonathan and Clark go to Pete's tool shed to take the ship but it's already gone having been stolen by Dr. Hamilton earlier. They leave, but not before being spotted by Pete as they go. In the morning, Clark exits his house to find Pete who confronts him about stealing the ship last night. Clark admits he and Jonathan were there, but the ship was already gone when they arrived. Pete refuses to believe him, and when Clark refuses to explain further Pete gets in his car and drives away. Clark watches him go with a heavy heart from hiding so much all the time, and he runs in a flash in front of Pete's car holding it back with his bare hands. As Pete stares at Clark's impossible feat, Clark tells Pete it's time for them to talk.
Clark tells Pete everything he knows about himself and about what he can do. Pete is stunned by the news and suddenly finds himself questioning everything about his life-long friend. He is afraid yet also angry that Clark never trusted him and tells Clark so. Clark objects that his parents wouldn't allow it as they felt it too dangerous for anyone else to know. But Pete tells Clark he's hurt by Clark not trusting him all this time and leaves. Dr. Hamilton has discovered the spot on the ship for the eight-sided disc he originally found and gave to Lex. He visits Lex demanding the disc but Lex truthfully tells him he lost it the day of the tornado. Hamilton leaves raving at Lex but when he sees Lex's father in the hall, he convinces Lionel Luthor to come with him to where he has the ship!
Pete and Clark talk a little at school, but Pete is still upset that Clark deceived him all this time about himself. Clark then sees Chloe who's heard about the spaceship story from a source and Clark tells her it's just nonsense. Lionel Luthor examines Clark's ship as much as he can with his hands as he's now blind, and he tells Hamilton he must find the disc that will open the ship if he wants Luthor to give him funding. Lana visits Clark and confirms she is upset about Nell's new friend, and she also tells Clark she did break up with Whitney! He mentions that he and Pete are fighting but when she asks why Clark won't tell Lana. She gets upset at confiding in him and then his refusal to do the same with her, and she tells him so and goes.
Hamilton breaks into Pete's tool shed looking for the disc and Pete hears him and confronts him. Hamilton's condition is worsening and he questions Pete who almost lets it slip that the ship's owner is very powerful. When Pete refuses to say anything more, Hamilton gets enraged and uses his flashlight to knock Pete out! The next morning, Martha and Jonathan Kent ask Clark to talk more to Pete about the ship, and Clark tells them he has told Pete the truth about himself. They are upset and worry that Pete may tells others, and then they get a call from Pete's mom telling them he's missing!
Lana and Aunt Nell have some coffee and Nell tells Lana she can arrange tables anyway she wants and that she told Dean he must respect Lana's wishes in the future. Lana is pleased to hear this but then Nell drops the bombshell on Lana that she and Dean are getting married! Lana is not happy at this news to say the least, but doesn't say anything to hurt her Aunt. Pete wakes up to Hamilton raving at him about how exposure to Kryptonite is killing him and he wants to know who owns the ship. And if Pete doesn't tell him, he intends to make sure Pete dies too!
Lex and his Father talk about Hamilton and his supposed find. Lex insists it's all nonsense until his Father tells him he examined the ship and they decide to go to Hamilton's barn for Lex to see it also. Clark talks to Chloe who's discovered that Hamilton visited the dead driver just before he died. They reason Hamilton must have taken Pete also after getting the driver to talk and Clark speeds away to Hamilton's old address to hopefully find Pete. At that moment Hamilton has filled a needle with deadly glowing Kryptonite, and he's going to inject Pete with the lethal sustance if he doesn't talk. But Pete bravely refuses to betray Clark and Hamilton prepares to poison him!
Suddenly Clark bursts through the barn door blasting it to splinters. He warns Hamilton to drop the needle but Hamilton starts to use it on Pete. Clark blasts his newfound heat vision at the deadly hypodermic and it superheats and blows into pieces. But the deadly liquid splashes on Clark and he collapses at once from its effects on him! Hamilton then approaches Clark with a beaker filled with more lethal Kryptonite and threatens Clark's life. But Pete has broken from his bonds and hits Hamilton hard causing the Krytonite to splash all over him as he falls to the floor. The man starts spasming at fantastic speed with Pete and Clark helpless to aid him, and with a final spasm he grows still and dies in front of them. Pete helps Clark both take Clark's ship back to the Kent storm cellar where it began its adventure during the tornado. Martha and Jonathan Kent tell Pete they are proud of his bravery for Clark's sake. But Jonathan cautions Pete that he's now got a huge responsibility and the danger that goes with it too. Pete tells Clark that Hamilton trying to kill him over Clark showed him why Clark not confiding in him was to protect him and he's not angry with Clark anymore. And Lex and his Father go to Hamilton's barn to find no sign of the ship. As they leave they both admit to each other they're intrigued by this growing mystery.
After everything settles down, Clark and Pete start playing a bit of basketball and Pete asks Clark not to hold back and show him what he can really do with his powers. In answer Clark jumps straight over Pete's head to slamdunk the ball into the basket. The two boys laugh at Clark's feat, and for Clark the burden of his powers and the responsibilities they bring has just gotten lighter for the first time in a long time.

Our Story:
Clark, Chloe, and Pete are all lining up to get their class rings despite Jonathan Kents warning to Clark that the $350.00 price was too much for him to spend. Chloe remarks the red ruby rings don't look as nice as she had hoped but Clark gets his and puts it on immediately. But when he does, suddenly red radiation crawls up into his veins and then reddens his eyes for a second before the sensation passes. Then Lana comes up with a new clasmate named Jessica who's wearing an outfit that gets Mr. Gibbons' attention. When he admonishes Jessica about not following the school dress code, Clark tells him he thinks Jessica looks hot, the dress code sucks, and to lighten up! Then we see a young man in a bathtub in Metropolis getting interviewed by a U.S. Marshall who shows him a picture of Jessica and then he gets her general whereabouts from him. And in thanks, the supposed "Marshall" then knocks a radio into the tub electrocuting the man on purpose!
As they leave school that day, Clark gets a hold of a flyer for a nearby bar and shows it to Pete asking him if he wants to go there that weekend. Pete can't believe his ears but he has no time to react as Jessica runs up and writes her phone number on Clark's hand while he openly flirts with her. As she leaves Lana arrives and Clark turns on the charm for Lana this time while they arrange a study session for that evening. When Clark gets home and Jonathan Kent sees the ring Clark bought he's upset that Clark went against his wishes. In response, Clark angrily snaps at Martha and Jonathan then speeds off to do his chores.
That morning Lex walks into his office to find his father's having it renovated to suit his needs better. Lex balks but ultimately gives in to his Father's wishes as he still blames himself for Lionel Luthor's blindness. That evening the bogus marshall finds the same bar Clark had the flyer from and showing the bartender Jessica's picture, he tells the man to call him if he sees her. And when Clark blows off the study session with his friends, the next day Martha and Jonathan get a phonecall from their credit card company about unusally expensive charges made last night. They go to the barn and up in Clark's loft they find him surrounded by high-tech electronics and a satellite dish with big screen TV!
When Clark tells them he's tired of living their poor lifestyle, Martha and Jonathan know something is very wrong with Clark. And he proves it by arguing with them some more and then jumping on his new motorcycle and roaring off down the road on it. He meets up with Jessica who is fighting with her Dad over the way she dresses and he tells her they have to stay incognito. But when Clark pulls up on his bike, he invites her for a ride and the two roar off together! When they get to school Jonathan Kent comes up in his pickup and confronts Clark about his new behavior. Clark's answer is to shove his Dad back ten feet into his truck door, and then walk away as Pete Ross helps Jonathan to his feet!
While Jonathan and Martha Kent worry about Clark, he's at the Talon telling Lana it's time for the truth between them and then he kisses her passionately to prove his point! He tells her he'll pick her up at 8 O'Clock for a date and leaves with Lana amazed at the way Clark's acting. Chloe and Pete talk and he mentions Clark's parents being very worried about his recent and very different behavior. Chloe tells Pete she's found out that the company that made their class rings subsituted a red color meteor rock it found as a cheap alternative to the advertised ruby rings. Pete, knowing the truth about Clark's weakness to meteor rocks, reasons this is the cause of Clark acting so strangely and runs to tell Martha and Jonathan Kent. They figure that this kryptonite obviously affects Clark's emotions whereas the green type rock causes him physical pain. They now know they must get Clark's class ring from his finger before he goes too far from its effects on him!
Clark borrows Lex's Ferrari to take Lana out that night to the bar he found out about earlier. Lana is upset at this atmosphere and keeps refusing to drink or dance. Then Clark sees Jesscia there and ignores Lana to dance with her. Jessica tells Clark they should leave Smallville together and Clark is interrupted by Lana telling him she's leaving. When he protests, she goes anyway and then two locals stand in Clark's way blocking him. He easliy throws them aside and then two more as he abuses his powers more and more now from the red kryptonite. Then he and Jessica leave before the police can arrive, but they don't know that the bartender has called the marshall tracking Jessica!
Clark goes home and packs his clothes telling Martha and Jonathan he's through being used by them to run the farm. When Jonathan tells him it's the ring stone effecting him this way, he tells Jonathan he wants to be rich and famous and they only pretended to love him anyway. Then he gets in Lex's Ferrari and speeds of to Lex's house where he tells him what's going on. Lex pretends to want to go with Clark to Metropolis and stalls him into waiting at his mansion. He then goes to see Jonathan who is planning something with Pete Ross to stop Clark once and for all. Back at Lex's, Clark confronts Lionel Luthor telling him to get out of town and suddenly the bogus marshall shows up. He tries to arrest Clark who easily takes his gun away from him. He then fires it into his palm showing the three spent rounds sitting red-hot in his hand to the marshall to frighten him.
Then when the man tries to leave, Clark stops him and coerces the truth from him. It seems that Jessica's dad is a whistleblower about illegal activities in a corporation he worked at and he and Jessica are on the run from him as the corporation offered him one million dollars to bring the computer disks back that prove their guilt. Clark knocks the bounty hunter out and then speeds over to Jessica's house where he tells her she can't leave until she gives him the now valuable disks. She tells Clark her Father will be a dead man if she does that and he laughs at her when suddenly the marshall comes through the door telling Clark they should work together. But a shot rings out and the man falls dead from a bullet fired by Jessica's Dad!
He tells Clark to go before he is forced to shoot him too and in response Clark super-speed takes his gun from him and grabs his throat as Jessica runs from the house into the cornfield. He refuses to give up the disks when Clark realizes Jessica must have them and he speeds into the cornfield cutting her off within seconds. He's about to take the disks from her when Pete Ross steps out of the corn in front of him. Then Jonathan Kent comes out on his other side holding a sledgehammer as Jessica again runs for her and her Father's life. Clark warns them both he'll hurt them if they try and stop him and Pete then holds up a small lead box and opens it exposing Clark to the green Kryptonite he has inside.
Clark withers and falls to the ground in pain as Pete apologizes for doing this to him and then Jonathan yells his name and swings at Clark with the sledgehammer! Clark sticks up his hand with the ring on it to protect himself and Jonathan aims straight for the ring smashing the stone into a thousand pieces! Clark comes out of his aggressive haze staring at Jonathan and Pete in shock, and they take him home to recover. Back at the Luthor mansion Lex has had his office restored to its original condition telling his Father he loves him but he cannot interfere with his running things his own way. Lionel Luthor listens and cradles the three spent and flattened bullets in his hand that he found on the floor and tells Lex he thinks that Clark is a very unusual young man he'll watch in the future.
Clark apologizes to Martha and Jonathan Kent telling them the ring made him want to tell everyone the truth and he's grateful that their love and courage bought him back from the edge this time. But when he goes to see Lana and apologize to her, she asks him why he acted that way but he can't tell her the truth about the meteor affecting him. And then Lana tells him she's tired of his secrecy and from now on, apologies just aren't enough anymore. As they part Clark feels the pain and loneliness his powers create, and this time they have cost him more then ever before.

Our Story:
It's nighttime and Lana has come to visit her parent's graves but she is surprised to find an envelope with her name on it on her parent's gravestone. It's sealed with wax with a letter "b" and she has no idea who it is from. Its writer is a young boy her age who is racing throught the woods in fear. He's being chased and his pursuer is a huge older man with a dog and a gun. The man catches the boy and standing over him he shoots him in the chest with no mercy! But the boy awakens in his own cellar with the man telling him as his Father he must do this to him. The gun had a tranquilizer dart in it and the boy tells him he's sorry he broke out and it won't happen again. The Father's response to that is to chain the boy to the wall and slam the cellar door closed sealing the boy down in the basement!
Lana has opened the letter to find a sentimental poem written to her. She shows it to Pete and Chloe who ponder who her mysterious admirer is. When Clark stops in he hears them talking and when he reads the poem he scoffs at it as "mushy" and Lana snips at him that he's too harsh and leaves. Meanwhile Lionel Luthor has just fired his fourth assistant and Lex worries he'll never find anyone who can please his father. Lionel Luthor goes outside to use his electronic reader for the blind and when he hears Luthorcorp stock is falling he throws the reader away in frustration. Martha Kent has stopped by for the monthly produce check from Lex and she sees his father throw the reader and picking up the newspaper she starts to read to Lionel. He likes what he hears and offers her a job as his personal assistant!
The young man's mother calls him Byron and she defends her husband's actions. Byron writes another poem and frees himself and goes to the graveyard where he meets Lana and suddenly Clark shows up startling the boy who trips and hurts himself. They take him to the Talon coffeeshop Lana runs and Clark and Lana find out he is a sensitive young man who is being homeschooled and he tells Lana she inspires him to write the poems. When dawn approaches he panics and tells them he must reach home before dawn. They take him home to his worried Mother who hustles him inside the house in a panic. And the Father threatens Lana and Clark with a gun telling them to never return there again. But Clark has seen the restraint scars on Byron's wrists and he convinces Jonathan Kent and Sherrif Ethan to accompany him to the boy's house. But when they get there the parents tell the sherrif that their son died eight years ago!
Chloe investigates Byron and she turns up a death certificate for the boy. She also finds out he was one of several test subjects years ago in a drug companies trials to find a drug to help anti-social children. Lex has found out his father hired Martha Kent and he warns his father that any meddling in the Kent's lives will end their truce with each other. Clark and Pete go to Byron's house to try and free him while his parent are out and entering the house they find Byron chained in the cellar. But when they free him he protests he can't go out in the sun and Clark has to drag him from the house. But once sunlight hits Byron he suddenly takes on a voilent attitude and with impossible strength he throws Clark thirty feet away from him! And when Pete tries to calm Byron he tosses him off his porch and hurts Pete. Clark takes Pete to the Doctor with a hairline fracture and he and Jonathan Kent decide to confront Byron's Mother. She tells them her son cannot go outside due to the drug companies tests and that she and her husband must keep him locked up or he'll go bezerk whenever exposed to sunlight.
Chloe tells Clark that the drug Byron was given targets the adrenal glands and that explains Byron's incredible strength and hostility. Lana searches for Byron and she finds him visting his own grave and he tells her he can't be normal ever again and shoves her aside. Lionel Luthor and Martha Kent board a helicoptor to take them to Metropolis on business for the day. But when the pilot starts to take off the chopper starts shaking violently. And when Martha Kent looks out the window she sees it's because Byron is using his fantastic strength to force the helicoptor to the ground! He slams the helicoptor to the ground and tosses Martha aside to get to Lionel Luthor who he then tells that it was his company that did this to him and he will kill him for that. But Clark speeds up and slams Byron aside and helps his mother and Lionel start to get away.
But Byron slams into Clark stunning him and tells him that nothing will save Luthor from him. Clark sees his Mother protecting Lionel Luthor and knows he must save them now or Byron will hurt them. He speeds into Byron and bodyslams the boy into a nearby well and the two struggle down in the darkness. But once Byron is removed from the sun, he turns back into the peaceful Byron once more. Byron is taken to the hospital and put under lighting that will keep him calm and Lex Luthor is very interested to hear that now Clark has saved his Father from harm as he once did for Lex. Martha Kent gets Lionel to agree to fund research into helping Byron as it will be much cheaper then the adverse publicity he would suffer. And Lex teases his Father that Martha Kent is already softening his hardened exterior.
Lana goes to see Clark who aplogizes for scoffing at Byron's poems and he asks her what she think of Byron now she knows he's different. Lana tells Clark that if people are open and honest with each other that the differences between them can be surpassed. And Clark finds himself hoping that Lana could accept him for himself if she ever discovers the truth about him. It seems that the whole experience has helped to shed daylight on Byron once more, and the two young people's feeling for each other.

But the money still isn't enough to cover the bills and Martha asks Jonathan if she can call her Father for help. Clark asks why he's never met his Grandfather and Jonathan Kent simply says there's "bad blood" between the two and won't say more. While delivering muffins to the Talon Clark talks to Lana who's found old pictures of her Mother with a man she's never seen before. Pictures taken during her parent's marriage!
Lex arrives and offers Clark a ride to school as he's late and he accepts. But when he arrives the new Principal Mr. Reynolds is locking a gate to the school and tells Clark he's got a regular tardiness problem he intends to correct. And Lex tells Clark his new Principal is his former headmaster at his old prep school. Principal Reynolds shows overt hostility to Lex and tells Clark to go to class and then refuses to explain his emnity to Lex.
Principal Reynolds meets Chrissy in the halls and explains he needs her transcripts from her last school and Chrissy nervously tells him she'll obtain them for him. Chloe tells Clark their new Principal had a promising career that was mysteriously cut short after Lex's prep school. She also says that the young man Troy's body is being tested for progeria for rapid aging. Later at the Talon coffeeshop, Clark tells Lana his Grandfather is a big corporate lawyer he's never met and he hopes to remedy that now. Then Lana's Aunt Nell walks up and Clark leaves. But when Lana asks her Aunt who the man in the picture is with her Mother, Aunt Nell becomes evasive and won't directly answer Lana's questions!
Martha Kent's father arrives at the farm and they share an awkward greeting when Clark comes home and is finally introduced to his Grandfather. After telling Martha he still thinks she's wasting her talents on the farm, he refuses to stay there or even have dinner which upsets Clark. Later at the Talon Clark is working on an essay that Principal Reynolds wants from him about his goals and Chrissy says hello but suddenly her hand shows signs she's starting to age rapidly. Lana asks Lex if he'd please investigate the man in the photo and Lex agrees. Jonathan Kent finds out Mr. Clark was there and though angered he explains to Clark that he and Mr. Clark fought years ago over Martha and he still feels the same animosity towards his father-in-law.
Lex confronts Principal Reynolds and it seems that his Father had Principal Reynold's career squashed years ago for his trying to get Lex expelled. Chrissy finds a young man named Russell and kissing him he ages to death during the kiss which revitalizes Chrissy's youth. Clark tricks Jonathan Kent into a meeting with his Grandfather that only serves to rekindle their dislike for each other. Lana tells Clark that she has the results from Lex's probe into the man in the pictures but she's afraid to read them.
Clark visits his Grandfather who gives him a check to tide the family over and Clark shows him family pictures and tells him he still wants them to get to know each other. Principal Reynolds arranges to meet Chrissy and her parents at the Spirit Week rally at the Talon and again we see Chrissy showing signs of aging. But when he goes to meet her that day she looks like a middle-aged woman and knocks him out and prepares to make him her third victim.
Chloe has found records on Chrissy that show she's been young since 1921 and has left three victims of premature aging whenever she appeared. Clark knows she's going to meet the Principal that day and he speeds to the Talon in time to see Chrissy preparing to kill him with premature aging. He tries to help her but she attacks Clark and he throws her away from him with his extraordinary strength. She lands hard and before she can recover she ages rapidly and turns into dust ending her menace forever.
Martha and Jonathan Kent tell Clark that they purposely kept his Grandfather away after their feud started due to fear he'd discover Clark's abilities and expose him. Clark is faced with the fact he may never have a close relationship with his own grandfather. Another burden he must now carry due to his being so different. And then Lana comes to see Clark and tells him that the man in the picture went with her Mother during a time when her Mother and Father were estranged from each other. And now Lana tells Clark that due to the timeline she's calculated, this man in the picture may be her actual father who may still be alive! The two comfort each other as they realize that at times in life we all experience upset and uncertainty and friends are all the support we can hope for at such times.

But after they leave, a woman enters the Kent home and walks around looking at all the pictures of Clark around the house. Clark arrives at school and after talking to Chloe and Pete proceeds to his locker. And when he closes the locker the woman who visited the house is standing there in front of him. When Clark asks if he can help her with anything, she shocks him by answering that she is his birth mother come to see her son!
Clark tells his parents about the strange woman and her claim and Jonathan and Martha tell him to stay away from her, but Clark says that'll be difficult as she's bought a house in Smallville. Later Martha and Jonathan agree to meet the woman and they try to dissuade her from any further contact. But the woman is adamant about being Clark's mother as the son she named Lucas was the only adoption handled by Metropolis United Charities and that fits the criteria that Clark was adopted under.
Clark meets Chloe at school and confronts her about investigating his adoption despite her promise to him not to do so. They quarrel badly and Chloe tells Clark that Lionel Luthor founded Metropolis United Charities which raises Clark's suspicions. Now the woman named Rachel Dunleavy goes to see Lex to try and persuade him to talk to Clark on her behalf. When Lex refuses her, she stuns him by telling she is a former mistress of his father's and that Clark is actually his brother!
Lana and Chloe talk about her fight with Clark and Lana then asks Chloe to investigate a man in a picture with her deceased mother who just may be her actual father. But Chloe convinces Lana to go see the man himself to find out the truth. Clark confronts his parents demanding the truth about his adoption, and Jonathan tells Clark that the day of the meteor shower when they found him, Jonathan put Clark's ship on the truck and they drove for the farm. But suddenly Lionel Luthor appeared in the road and begged Jonathan to help his son Lex who was lying in a field after nearly being struck by a meteor.
The boy has lost all his hair and is in shock and in danger of dying. Jonathan Kent picks up Lex and putting him and Lionel Luthor in the truck he gets Lex to the hospital in time to save his life. Lionel Luthor finally introduces himself to Jonathan and tells him he's indebted to him for saving his son's life and he owes Jonathan Kent any favor he can ask. Jonathan then takes Martha and young Clark home where they debate what to do with him and Martha insists they keep the young child. Suddenly Ethan the town deputy shows up ckecking on the Kent's safety and sees them with Clark. Martha quickly makes up a story that they have just completed the adoption process and that Clark is their new son.
Just as Jonathan finishes telling Clark this story, Deputy Ethan arrives and tells the Kents that Rachel Dunleavy has managed to get a court order ordering a DNA test of Clark to prove he is indeed her son. Lana goes to see Henry Small about finding the picture of him with her mother and asks him if she is his daughter, but he denies it and asks her to leave which she does in tears. Jonathan exlains that he had to ask Lionel Luthor to arrange a false adoption to cover their story and Lionel agreed. Lex comes to see Clark and Clark tells him that although he'd be happy to have Lex as a brother, it's just not the case.
The DNA test is taken and Clark and Pete break into the testing lab with Pete substituting his DNA for Clark's covering Clark's real identity. When she finds out the DNA is not a match for her child, Rachael confronts Lionel Luthor who tells her that he had no choice but to have her committed after she gave up their mutual child as she threatened to expose him and then suffered a nervous breakdown. Lionel tells her to seek help for her continuing mental illness and she storms out. Afterwards when Lex is leaving the mansion, she jabs him with a needle rendering him unconscious and she kidnaps him!
When Lex awakens he is tied up in a chair and Rachael explains to him that she has called his father and unless he admits publicly that Clark is her and Luthor's child she intends to kill Lex in revenge for losing her son years ago. Clark goes to reconcile with Chloe and asks for her help finding the deranged woman before she can harm Lex as Lionel Luthor has gone on TV saying he refuses to give in to the woman's demands. Chloe finds her address and Clark super-speeds to the house where Lex is being held. He x-rays inside the house and sees Rachael about to kill Lex with a huge axe and he smashes through the door and blocks the axe which breaks apart on his invulnerable body. Rachael now knows Clark cannot be her son and collapses in his arms in another mental breakdown at the realization.
Henry Small goes to see Lana at the Talon coffeeshop she runs and he tells her that he's willing to undergo DNA testing to ascertain once and for all if he is indeed Lana's real father. Martha and Jonathan Kent tell Clark that Rachael has been put back in a mental institution where she'll be cared for and that no one will ever believe any claims about what she saw when the axe broke on Clark. Then Jonathan tells Clark that after Lionel gave him Clark's adoption papers, he threatened to tell the authorities about the adoption cover-up unless Jonathan helped convince his friends the Ross' to sell their factory to Luthor. Jonathan Kent gave in and the Luthor's gained their stronghold in Smallville which explains his hatred for the Luthor's and he carries the blame for it to this day.
Lex confronts his father for the truth about his long-lost brother and Lionel tells him that the child was given to another family but he died before even reaching the age of one. Lex leaves, but after he does Lionel Luthor takes out a locket he carries which inside has a lock of hair and a picture of himself and a five year old boy. Once again he has lied to Lex and we are left to ponder what indeed ever did happen to his brother who may be alive to this very day.

Our Story:
Ryan James, the young psychic boy Clark met last year, is being tested in a research facility by a Dr. Garner for his ESP abilities. The young man starts to show signs of a headache that he's gotten before and then he starts to get a nosebleed. The Doctor sends an aide to get a drug to help Ryan and the boy tells him the aide's stealing narcotics. But when the Doctor leaves, Ryan flees from the room into another where he calls Clark at the farm for help. He tells Clark he's being held captive at Summerholt Labs, but suddenly the Doctor and the aide find Ryan and knock him out with a needle leaving Clark to stand there staring helplessly at the now dead telephone!
Martha and Jonathan Kent try to find Summerholt lab in Edge City where Ryan moved to but have no luck. Later at school Chloe manages to track it down to Metropolis but she tells Clark it's a research only facility. Lex Luthor meets with Smallville's Mayor Tate to try and get approval from the zoning commission for a plant expansion he's planning. But the Mayor explains to Lex that it will take a campaign contribution as his Father's done in the past for that to happen. Lex refuses and the Mayor tells him to think it over or forget the expansion.
Lana's Aunt Nell tells her that her boyfriend Neal has taken a job in Metropolis and that they're all moving to Metropolis which naturally upsets Lana who is left out of the decision. Martha Kent gets no results calling the Summerholt Institute even though she called the police who searched the lab but found no sign of Ryan. Clark goes to the facility but Dr. Garner denies any knowledge of Ryan being there. Clark's x-ray vision proves otherwise and he breaks into a room where Ryan is hooked up to several wires. Clark knocks an orderly out who tries to stop him and then he takes Ryan from the lab back to Lex's mansion in Smallville.
Lex agrees to help Clark and Ryan but not before he lectures Clark on the rashness of his actions as they consitute kidnapping a minor. He promises to contact his lawyers for advice for help for the boy. But when Clark arrives home he finds an angry Dr. Garner and Ethan the sheriff waiting for him with a search warrant for the farm and kidnapping charges for Clark! Clark stalls the legal action by agreeing to turn Ryan over first thing in the morning.
The next morning the Kent family meets with Ryan and they're happy to see him. But Jonathan Kent explains they must turn Ryan over to Dr. Garner who is his legal guardian as Ryan's Aunt gave custody to the Doctor when Ryan's illness manifested itself. The sheriff arrives with Doctor Garner but Jonathan tells him that custody gives him no excuse to abuse Ryan and treat him like a lab rat. Before things can go any further, Lex arrives with a restraining order giving the Kents temporary custody of Ryan. The Doctor vows to fight to get Ryan back and leaves with the sheriff.
Later at the Talon coffeeshop, Lana throws a welcome back party for Ryan which makes the boy feel sheltered and happy once again. It seems that Pete Ross' mom is a judge who co-signed the restraining order and for that Clark and Ryan are both grateful. But Ryan reads Pete's thoughts and tells Clark that the burden of the secret about Clark's abilities is weighing heavily on Pete. It seems Pete fears what happened to Ryan may happen to Clark if he ever slips up and Clark is revealed.
That night Lana comes to Clark and tells him of her Aunt's plans to move her to Metropolis and Clark asks her to try and stay which she promises to do. Lex shows Ryan his personal collection of "Warrior Angel" comics which he says got him through tough times after his Mother died. Suddenly Ryan gets another bad headache and nosebleed and collapses on Lex's floor. He awakens in the hospital and Clark is anxiously standing over him. Ryan then tells him that he knows from reading Doctor Garner's thoughts that he has a growing brain tumor, and that he is going to die!
It seems the experiments that were run on Ryan have accelerated the tumor's growth and his time is short. Jonathan Kent tries to console Clark who is upset that despite all his powers he can do nothing to stop Ryan's impending death. Lana meanwhile has told her Aunt she intends to fight her on the move to Metropolis, and Chloe suggests a solution to her problem that we don't get to hear.
Lex consoles Clark about his growing frustration over Ryan's illness and tells him that time spent with Ryan is better then time spent trying to save him. It's a mistake Lex made during his Mother's illness that he begs Clark not to do in Ryan's case. He also suggests a Doctor in Hub City that has worked on cases such as Ryan's but the man is leaving on a jet that afternoon and won't return for months. Clark then runs all 425 miles to Hub City to intercept the man before he can leave.
Lex and Ryan talk comics once again and Ryan warns Lex to remember that people don't turn evil overnight and that is takes time and events for that to occur. Clark stops the jet from taking off and talks the Doctor into going to Smallville to operate on Ryan. Martha and Jonathan Kent tell Clark they've never been prouder of him then now and the operation begins. Lex meets with Mayor Tate again and informs him that he's putting his money and influence behind the Mayor's opponent in the upcoming election and the two end the meeting as enemies.
Lana sees Clark at the hospital and tells him that she'll be moving in with Chloe so she can stay in Smallville and her Aunt has agreed to the arrangement which makes both Clark and Lana very happy. The operation is over but sadly Martha Kent tells Clark that although it bought Ryan a few more days, Ryan will still die soon. Clark takes Lex's advice and stays with Ryan as much as possible. Clark then takes Ryan on a balloon ride to get him away from all the psychic noise in the hospital and Clark tells Ryan that he has a fear of flying! Ryan tells Clark to not be sad or angry when he dies and that he is meant to help people in his life. He asks Clark to never give up despite the fact he may sometimes lose even with all his powers.
After Ryan passes away Clark goes to his hospital room to collect the comics Ryan was reading before he died. He is sad over the boy's passing, but looking at Ryan's comics he remembers his promise to never give up. It is a promise we know he will keep throughout his life due to the vow he made to a dying friend.

Our Story:
Clark's overachieving classmate Ian Randall gets a bad mark from Mr. Frankel the shop teacher and asks that his grade not be lowered as he's desperate to maintain his perfect 4.0 average. When Clark sneaks a peek at Pete Ross's grade with his x-ray vision to confirm for him that he's done well, he notices that Ian will be getting a "C". That night while Mr. Frankel works in class Ian visits him pleading not to get the lower grade, but Mr. Frankel is adamant that it stands. Suddenly the lights go out and someone else plays loud music on a stereo in the room. When Mr. Frankel goes to see who it is, he is startled by the sight of a second Ian who suddenly stabs him to death and tells him he just can't accept a "C"!
When Lex Luthor gets a ticket from an obnoxious meter maid, he loses his temper and uses a golf club to smash the man's windows in his vehicle in response. As that happens, Clark is helping Lana move in with Chloe and her Dad. Both girls refuse Clark's invitation to coffee and he decides to go home. Jonathan Kent is working on a tractor in the barn that slips off the jack and traps his leg. Clark arrives home and saves Jonathan but when he x-rays the leg he sees it's broken and takes him to the hospital. Ian Randall goes to see Chloe at the Torch as she's got reference books checked out he needs and the two hit it off at once when Chloe asks to interview the hard-working student.
Martha shows up at the hospital and feels guilty that her Luthorcorp job took her away from the farm. And Lex Luthor has a minor tiff with Dr. Bryce who's treating Jonathan but she seems to dislike Lex and tells him he must not remember her which intrigues Lex about her. Jonathan is given a cast and crutches and Martha and Clark take him home to recuperate. Clark runs into Ian and Chloe at the Talon working on the article she's writing about Ian and hears them plan to leave together. And when Clark tells Lana he can't help her with her math, Ian steps in and volunteers to help her instead.
Ian then goes into a back room and taking off his clothing he strains his body and a second Ian actually grows out of his back and stands in front of him! Then they both get dressed and while one Ian leaves with Chloe for the interview, the other leaves with Lana to help her with her homework! Martha Kent is staying home and feeling very guilty that Jonathan got hurt and blaming herself. That day, Mr. Frankel is missing from class and Pete and Clark see Ian kissing Lana by her locker!
When Lex shows up for an anger management class the court orders him to for his meter-maid incident, he is happily surprised to see Dr. Bryce there also and he asks her for a date but she again rebuffs him. When Clark warns Chloe he thinks that Ian is playing them both against each other, Chloe takes it wrong and storms away from Clark. Clark confronts Ian about it and he denies he's doing anything wrong and then he tells Clark he actually got an "A" from Frankel! Clark tells him that he saw the "C", and then Ian tersely warns Clark to stay clear of him.
That night Pete and Clark look around the shop class and they find Mr. Frankel's body hidden in a closet. But then someone sets off a fire that Clark saves Pete from but not before he sees Ian is the culprit. He goes to Chloe's to warn her that Ian is turning violent, but finds Ian and Chloe kissing on her couch. Chloe tells Clark that she and Ian have been there together for three hours, which gives him the alibi he needs. When Lana hears about Clark accusing Ian of the crimes she tells Clark to leave her and Ian alone and tells him he's just jealous of them. Clark asks her if she and Chloe are lying to each other about Ian and she denies it.
Lex remembers the Doctor from years ago when he was a wild youth who she helped once and goes to see her at the hospital. They reminisce about it and then when Lex asks her again for a date, this time the Doctor agrees. Clark tells Pete that Ian's been taking classes at two places at once and they page Ian to separate locations at the same time. When Pete and Clark see Ian at both places at once, they figure out there are two Ians! Clark pages Chloe to warn her but she ignores his call.
Lana comes to see Chloe at the Torch and they compare notes and figure out that Ian's two-timing them. Suddenly he shows up and admits to them both it's true. He then locks the door and tells them that they're now in his way and must be killed. When they run to the other door, the second Ian blocks it and confirms there are two of him! Clark and Pete arrive minutes later and find a suicide note supposedly from the girls saying they are going to both jump off the Smallville Dam over their love for Ian and Clark races off to save them.
At that moment one Ian is dragging Chloe to the dam's edge as she struggles, and the other Ian is finding Lana resisting his attempts at the same. Chloe breaks free only to trip and stun herself when she bangs her head after falling. Ian picks up her still form and throws it over the wall of the dam with no remorse! But Clark races up and diving headlong off the dam, he points his body like an skydiver and passes Chloe's flailing figure on the long way down.
He crashes into the earth below with only a second to spare and gently catching Chloe he races back to the dam's road where Lana still fights with the other Ian. As he puts Chloe on the ground Ian runs up and tries to kill Clark from behind by hitting him with a piece of pipe.
Only a strong backhand from Clark sending Ian flying to crash into a sign unconscious indicates that Clark even noticed the blow. He turns and runs to Lana as she and the other Ian tumble over the side of the dam together to certain doom! Lana snags the railing but Ian's grabbed her foot and is dragging her hand from what little grip she has. Just as she finally loses her grasp, Clark's firm hand encircles her wrist and easily pulls her to safety. But Ian cannot hold on any longer and with a scream he falls to a terrible death!
Later at the farm, Clark tells his parents the girls are allright, but very shaken up after Ian's attacks on them. Martha Kent tells Jonathan and Clark that she's willing to quit her Luthorcorp job for them but Jonathan won't let her. He admits he hates having to share her with the Luthors but to be fair to her he'll learn to live with it. Clark gets a call and Chloe and Lana meet him to tell him they appreciate what he did for them and that they'll be more honest with each other in the future also.
Clark then tells them both that he wants them to think of him as a friend and not as a boyfriend from now on and they agree, but Lana seems to be a bit unhappy with that decision. As he leaves them both sitting in the Talon, he stops outside and with a quiet yet smug grin he lets us know that he may be super, but he's also a human being too.

Our Story:
At a site where Luthorcorp is building a new office park, the men are done with their day's work and are leaving for the day. But when the foreman goes to lock the gate he finds Joseph Willowbrook, a local Indian activist, inside protesting the fact that the office site's being built on his people's sacred ground. The foreman tells him to leave but Joseph warns him of unknown forces at work before he goes. That night the foreman is gassing up his truck on the site when a huge white wolf attacks him! Grabbing a flare gun he fires at the wolf but the shot is deflected into gas that's leaked on the ground and the ensuing explosion kills the poor man!
While Pete Ross and Clark are motocrossing near the construction site the next day, they don't know that danger lies undeneath them. When Clark takes a spill, he suddenly plummets 100 feet down into a huge cave. A chamber is opened from another area by Clark's fall, and a pretty young Indian girl runs to Clark's side to preform first aid on him, but his amazing body has once again saved him from harm. The young lady is named Kyla and she is the grandaughter of the Indian who was protesting the offices being built. Then the pair notice the walls covered in ancient drawings of what Kyla says is the legend of "Numan" who came from the stars and shoots fire from his eyes while having the strength of ten!
Pete calls down but since Clark is all right he and Kyla continue looking over the caves under the work site. Then Clark notices to his amazement an indentation carved into the wall in the exact shape of the octagonal disk that fits into his spaceship's side and will activate it. Now he is very interested in this legend and meanwhile he and Kyla are also instantly attracted to each other. Later at home Clark tries to get his Mother to talk Lionel Luthor out of developing the site further as the caves have been discovered, but she tells Clark she doesn't have any say in Luthorcorp.
Kyla stops by Clark's barn to talk and the two become even more enamored with each other. Kyla is wearing a bracelet in the shape of a symbol in the cave and she tells Clark that once there was a great star in the sky where "Numan" came from. Lana stops by and meets Kyla and Clark asks her to ask Henry Small, a local lawyer and the man who may indeed be Lana's biological Father, to intercede on the Indian's behalf, and Lana agrees reluctantly. Lex's father asks Lex to come into the office project as his partner and Lex refuses to do any business with him.
When Clark and Kyla re-examine the cave paintings, a sudden cave-in from the bulldozers working above almost hurts Kyla. But Clark sheilds her with his body which she is amazed at and now Kyla is convinced Clark is the legend called "Numan"! The two share a kiss in the cave that cements their feelings towards each other even more. Lana meets Henry Small at the Talon coffeeshop and he tells her he'll be glad to help the Indians fight Luthorcorp. He then also tells her the DNA tests are back and he is her Father after all! He also wants to start a relationship with Lana where he can learn to be a real father to her which makes Lana very happy. Clark finds out that Joseph Willowbrook has been arrested for suspicion about the foreman's death, and he asks Lex to bail the man out of jail. Also Henry Small files a "Cease and Desist" order which stops construction at the office park site. Lana tells Chloe that she's been writing to Whitney in the service regularly but lately he stopped answering her letters to him. When Clark takes Lex to the caves and he also sees the indentation for the spaceship in the form of the disk stolen from him, he becomes a solid backer of the Indian's cause and bails out Mr. Willowbrook.
That night as she's leaving work, Martha Kent is attacked by the huge white wolf as she enters her car but she escapes any injury. Lex tells his Father he'll take the office site project off his hands but his father becomes wary of Lex's sudden interest in the caves and refuses Lex's offer. That night Kyla tells Clark her tribe name means "Skinwalkers", actual people of her tribe who were exposed to green stones and were given the power to change into animals. When Clark asks Kyla if her grandfather could actually be the huge white wolf involved in the murder, Kyla feels hurt and leaves. Later that night Lionel Luthor is home in his mansion when he hears a huge wolf growling outside and trying to get into the room!
The massive beast breaks into the room and the blind Luthor is seconds away from a violent death when Clark bursts into the room just ahead of Luthor's security guards. He stops the men from shooting the wolf and asks it to leave peacefully which the wolf then does. But as the wolf's jumping out the window, it cuts itself badly on the glass and falls to the ground mortally wounded. Clark leaps down expecting to find Jospeh Willowbrook is the wolf, but he is shocked to see Kyla lying there bleeding to death! She tells Clark she's a "Skinwalker" and she never intended to hurt the foreman or his mother when she turned into the wolf, she was just trying to save her people's heritage. She tells Clark she's sorry and then passes away in his arms as he weeps for her.
It turns out the state invokes an historical preservation law which takes the project away from Luthorcorp. And Lex brags to his father that it's his company Lexcorp that has won the contract for the excavation of the Indian site. But Lionel Luthor tells his son he knows that Lex has found something he values on the site and he intends to find out just what it is in the near future. Later that night Lana consoles Clark about Kyla and then she collapses in his arms in tears. When Clark asks what's wrong, she tells him she's gotten word that Whitney has been listed as "Missing In Action" by the Marines. As Clark holds his crying friend he has little time to mourn for his own loss, the young and beautiful Kyla.

Our Story:
At the Talon coffeeshop, Clark helps Lana fix a water leak when she leaves the room and he uses his heat-vision to seal the pipe. He then makes a date with her for the Winter Festival on Saturday. Lana shows Clark, thankfully briefly as Clark sickens immediately, her green meteor rock necklace as all of Whitney's effects were returned to Mrs. Fordman as Whitney is now missing in action for over a month. But when the scene changes to Indonesia, we see Whitney is still alive and struggling to lead his patrol back to safety when they are attacked in a mortar barrage. One by one the soliders fall and Whitney is helping a wounded fellow soldier across a stream when they disappear in two final withering blasts!
In school sometime later Clark and Lana are talking when the hall grows quiet and all the students fall to the hall sides in silence. And who should be walking down the hall's center towards Lana in full Marine dress uniform but Whitney! The two fall into each other's arms as Clark leaves the scene quite upset. Later, as Mrs. Fordman serves the two cookies and milk, they try to learn what's happened in Whitney's absence. Lana asks him if he got her video letter, which in fact was a "Dear John" letter, and he tells Lana his injuries caused memory lapses and all he wants is for them to resume their lives together. Lana doesn't have the heart to ruin his homecoming with the news she thinks they're better off going their separate ways.
At Lex's mansion he is confronting his lady friend Dr. Bryce with a picture of she and his Father together and the fact an investigator he hired has found her bank account received a $100,000 dollar deposit after the meeting in the picture. He accuses her of spying on him for his father and Dr. Bryce leaves angrily after the brief argument. Later at the Talon, Lana is throwing a homecoming party for Whitney that Clark reluctantly attends. When Whitney overhears Clark cancelling their date for Saturday he reacts jealously despite Lana's assurances the two are just friends.
Whitney goes into the bathroom to cool off but once inside he loses his temper even further. He screams in rage just as Clark comes in, and then Whitney tears one of the stall doors off and crumples it like balsa wood! He warns Clark to stay away from Lana and storms from the room. The next day at the Fordman home a Marine Lieutenant arrives to tell Mrs. Fordman he has some bad news for her. But before he can go further, Whitney walks up and beats him to death with a baseball bat and then he turns on the screaming Mrs. Fordman!
Whitney goes to Lana later and asks her to move in with him but she refuses citing her young age. Clark visits Lex the next day and tells him he should at least give the Doctor a chance to explain things to him. Lex has heard of Whitney's return and then Clark tells him that Whitney is acting strangely. Lex advises Clark it may be post-traumatic stress and offers a good doctor he knows for Whitney to see. Back at the Fordman's, Whitney has Mrs. Fordman tied in a chair and is grilling her for facts about Whitney. Clark arrives offering help for Whitney and he angrily shoves Clark ten feet straight off his porch again warning Clark to stay away from Lana.
When Whitney goes back in the house Clark uses his x-ray vision on Whitney and sees the same green glowing skeleton that his old adversary Tina Greer the shapechanger had. He leaves and in the house Whitney walks up to Mrs. Fordman and he changes his shape to reveal it is indeed Tina Greer! Clark goes to the Torch, the school newspaper office, and tells Pete and Chloe that he suspects Whitney is Tina but Chloe tells Clark she just read of Tina committing suicide by fire last week.
At the Talon, Whitney comes in with an engagement ring and proposes to Lana but she finally tells him the truth about the "Dear John" video and that they should break up. He asks her for her green meteor necklace to remember her by and she gives it to him. Back at the Talon, Clark is unconvinced by the coincidence of Tina's supposed suicide and he leaves but not before asking Pete to guard Lana until he investigates further. Lana meets Pete in the hall and he tells her about Tina, but as soon as the two are alone Lana throws Pete into a locker knocking him out as it's really Tina disguised as Lana!
Clark goes to the Fordman house and finds Mrs. Fordman and frees her. He then goes home and tells Jonathan Kent what he's learned and suddenly Jonathan Kent turns to Clark with the green meteor rock necklace in his hand and tells him that he's really Tina as Clark collapses from the meteor rock's effect! Tina throws Clark in the cellar where his spaceship is hidden. She puts the necklace around Clark's neck and tells him no one will keep her from being with Lana and then he changes his shape into Clark's! He then tells Clark he's going to replace him and take over his life and then he'll win Lana once and for all and then leaves.
At the Talon, Lex meets Dr. Bryce and she explains that his father tried to bribe her to break up with him and that despite her refusal, he still wired the money to her account to make her look guilty. Lex tries to apologize but the Doctor is too hurt by Lex's earlier accusations and leaves. Clark lays dying from the meteor rock as he's growing greener by the minute from its effect on him. Suddenly his ship in the corner glows under its tarp and then its internal mechanisms whine loudly while it bathes Clark in a bright light that turns the green meteor rock into a clear crystal that cannot hurt Clark!
Jonathan Kent comes into the cellar and frees Clark just as this occurs and Clark tells him how the ship saved him from certain death. He then races off to confront Tina who is going after Lana at that moment. He arrives at the Talon to find Lana in the arms of the fake Clark who is trying to seduce Lana. She is unsure who the real Clark is for a moment but when Clark mentions he fixed the leak the other day she realizes it is Tina holding her! She breaks from his arms but Clark/Tina shoves her into a wall knocking her out. Clark tackles his doppleganger and drives the two of them straight through a wall into the nighttime street. Then the two super-powered opponents face off and throw each other about wildly smashing a storefront leaving shards of wood and glass as they struggle. Tina lifts a large engine off the back of a pickup to kill Clark with it, but Clark super-speeds out of harms way. But Tina cannot stop her momentum and ends up impaling herself on the shattered storefront's wooden frame! As she dies, she tells Clark to watch over Lana for her. Later it's confirmed by Mrs. Fordman that Whitney was killed in battle as his body was finally found.
Lex goes to the hospital and tells Dr. Bryce he has built walls around his heart due to his father's upbringing and his mother's death and asks her for her help in saving him before he turns into his father. Dr. Bryce slips her hand into his and the two contemplate just how big a task they have ahead of them. Clark goes to the caves seen in the episode "Skinwalker" with the legends of his coming drawn in them to contemplate all that's occurred and Lana meets him there. She tells him she has lost her parents, her Aunt Nell, and now Whitney and she doesn't want to ever lose Clark as he's always been there for her. The two embrace as Clark promises he'll never leave her.

Our Story:
Lex Luthor is furious when his father Lionel's company underbids him for a very lucrative contract. Lex finds a surveillance bug in his office and is tearing the rest of the room apart when Clark comes to visit. Clark spots a camera in Lex's stereo and hints to Lex there may be something in the stereo. Lex spots the camera inside it and smashes it in a fit of rage. Jonathan Kent has planned a picnic for his and Martha's anniversary when Martha Kent informs him that she has to work that day and fly to Metropolis with Lionel Luthor. She and Jonathan Kent argue bitterly over it and Martha storms out the door leaving the family in disarray.
Lionel drops in on Lex and Lex lets him know he is aware that his father stole the contract from him and they part angrily. Lex uses a phone scrambler and calling himself "Mr. Green" he contacts a counter-surveillance firm and arranges to have his father's Luthorcorp building in Metropolis bugged. Lana vists Clark and tells him she is going to meet her recently discovered biological father's wife today and she's understandably nervous. Clark reassures her and she leaves for the rendevous. Clark tries to smooth his parent's argument over by asking Lex to arrange a fancy dinner for his parents in Metropolis and Lex realizes his father and Martha Kent will be in the building he's having bugged that day!
Lionel Luthor and Martha are working in the building when he presents Martha with a very expensive watch with an inscription that says "To Martha with deep affection, LL.". Then he tells her he's promoting her and needs her in Metropolis with him from now on. Martha tells him she cannot accept the watch and she won't strain her marriage any further by moving to Metropolis. The counter-surveillance team has already started working in the building and one of its members finds Lionel and Martha and takes them at gunpoint to the vault room upstairs. Suddenly one of the team hits the leader and tying him up he tells him they have come to rob the vault of whatever they find inside!
Back at the Kent farm Jonathan finds a helicopter on his front lawn and Lex and Clark show up to tell him they want to fly him to Metropolis for a surprise dinner with Martha. Jonathan Kent angrily rejects the offer and Lex tells him he's through trying to be a friend to him as he's rebuffed any effort Lex has ever made. Then Clark gets a dressing down from his father who then storms out of the room. In Metropolis, the gang members are breaking into the vault when an alarm sounds and they discover that Lionel has a state of the art panic button on him he's used to summon the police. Lionel also tells them their crime is in vain as there is nothing of value to them inside the vault. And when Jonathan and Clark see the commotion on TV, Clark speeds away for Metropolis and Jonathan is shamed into asking Lex for the copter ride to the city after all.
As Lionel and Martha exchange views that they regret their last words with their families were angry ones, the crooks finally break into the vault. But what they find is identifiable only to someone who'd know. There is a rolling pallet filled with refined bars of green meteor rocks, and several files that all deal with Clark Kent! At the building's front, the Kents have arrived and Clark tells Jonathan Kent he has an idea to get into the building and save the hostages. But it will mean he must leap from the adjacent building onto the Luthorcorp building in a single bound. And that building is noted for its distinctive revolving globe for it is the Daily Planet newspaper building!
Back upstairs Martha Kent sees that not only are there the green bars and files on Clark, but also the eight-sided disk that fits in the side of Clark's spaceship! Lionel Luthor's research has gathered an impressive array of items that all deal with Clark. Then the gang leader takes Martha to a window and threatens that if his demands aren't met soon, he intends to shoot her while the nation watches on their TVs! This spurs Clark into action so he gets to the top of the Planet building and stands under the spinning globe. He looks over the edge and gets an immediate attack of vertigo as he is terrified of heights. Backing away from the edge he remembers his mother's life is at stake and steels himself for what he must do to save her.
Stepping back as far as he can, he takes off running at super-speed and with a mighty leap he flies into the space between the two buildings. Time seems to slow down as his jump carries him through the air and towards the Luthorcorp roof. But his jump is short and with a terrific crash he bursts through a window on the thirtieth floor and crashes into an office wall, but he has made it!
Lex calls the gang leader on the cell phone that scrambles his voice and offers big money and an escape route if they will let the hostages go. And he ups the offer when the gang leader tells him what was in the vault. But Lionel Luthor starts a bidding war for the items and their lives and the leader decides to trust Lionel. But Jonathan Kent has overheard Lex's conversation and promises Lex he will pay if he finds out that Lex was involved in this fiasco. In the building, Clark has subdued one gang member already and heads for the office where the rest are.
On the way, he rips out a wire in a power box and the building is now only lit with emergency lighting. The police see this and they decide its time to rush the building. Clark bursts into the room and knocks out one gang member and stuns the leader. But as Martha screams for him to get out of there, he is stricken by the massive amount of meteor bars and falls to the ground in pain as the leader starts to awaken! Martha seizes the opportunity and taking the disk from the leader's pocket, she then pushes the rolling pallet back into the vault and slams the vault door shut saving Clark from the deadly radiation.
But by this time the leader has come to his senses and he grabs a drill and holding Lionel he threatens to drive the spinning tool into the elder Luthors head if they don't surrender. But Clark has recovered and speeds over to the man and takes the drill from his hand as the gang leader stands there stunned by what has just happened. Then a shot rings out and the leader drops dead by a shot fired from behind him by the blind Lionel Luthor! Martha tells Clark quietly to burn the files on the table that deal with him and he does so with his heat-vision just before the police burst into the room and secure the scene.
Outside the building Martha and Jonathan Kent rush to each other embracing in happiness. Their arguments are all forgotten as Clark joins them and the family is reunited in joy. But for Lex and his father it's a renewal of their hatred for each other as his father knows that Lex sent the team in the first place to bug his building in retaliation for Lionel's bugging of Lex's mansion office. He tells Lex he'll be moving out for good. As the Kent family stands in happiness over their safety, the Luthor family is splintered forever by the actions of both father and son.
Later at the Kent farm Martha tells Jonathan and Clark she is resigning from her job with Lionel as she sees he was using her to get to Clark and uncover his secrets. But Jonathan Kent tells her it's best if she stays under Luthor's employ if it means she can keep an eye on him in the future in return. Clark is wary about this but he doesn't say anything to his parents. And after the two Kent men go upstairs to retire after the trying day, we see Martha remove the eight-sided disk from her pocket. She then hides it under the sink in a flour container and doesn't say a word to anyone keeping her possesion of it her secret for now.

Our Story:
One evening at the mansion Lionel Luthor is reading, using a text reader as he's blind, and preparing to move back to Metropolis permanently. Someone enters the room and doesn't answer Lionel's question as to who they are. The unseen person climbs the stairs and suddenly two shots ring out and hit Lionel who plunges from the balcony down to the floor crashing through a glass coffee table bleeding profusely. Next we see Jonathan Kent being woken in his pickup truck in a pouring rain by Sheriff Ethan and several deputies. He realizes he's got a bottle of liquor in one hand and a handgun in the other. He drops both objects, is handcuffed, read his rights and arrested for the attempted murder of Lionel Luthor!
Next we see Martha Kent and Clark visting Jonathan in his jail cell. He tells them he stopped at a bar called the Wild Coyote and drank half a beer. But as soon as he left the bar he got dizzy and passed out in his truck only to come awake on the side of the highway surrounded by the deputies. Clark promises to root out the truth in all this and leaves. Lex is at the hospital and his father's condition is critical. He and his father's assistant Dominic Santori bicker over Lionel and then part angrily.
Clark sees Lana at the Talon and she tells of an argument between his father and Lionel Luthor that she overheard that day about the watch Lionel gave to Clark's mother in our last episode. She also tells Clark the Sheriff was there and she told the story to him also. Then she asks her father Henry Small to represent Jonathan Kent in the case and he refuses for reasons he will not say. Clark arrives home to find the house being searched and Sheriff Ethan has found the watch Lionel gave to Martha upstairs in the bedroom smashed to pieces. He tells Martha and Clark this and the argument Lana told him about provide a strong motive for the shooting.
Clark and Pete Ross visit the Wild Coyote bar which has a reputation for serving underage drinkers and getting away with it. Mike the bartender tells them that Jonathan Kent was indeed overdrinking that night and was threatening to get Lionel Luthor once and for all. Clark loses his temper at hearing this but Pete calms him down and they leave. Tests on Jonathan Kent have shown powder residue from a gun in his hands and the case is mounting against him. Pete and Clark go to the scene of the arrest and Clark uses his x-ray vision and discovers a bullet lodged in a nearby shed.
At the hospital, Lionel Luthor is in a coma and his chances are not good. Clark arrives and tells the sheriff about the bullet he's found and Ethan promises to look into it. Then Dominic Santori arrives and tells the sheriff he was a witness to an argument between Lex and his father on the day of the shooting. It seems that Lionel bought up all the shares of Lex's company from members of its board and he believes that Lex shot Lionel for buying out his company. Clark confronts Lex about all this at the mansion and the two bicker over it and Clark leaves.
Clark and Pete continue to look into the shooting and Clark is convinced his dad was drugged at the bar by Mike the bartender who denies any involvement and insists Jonathan is guilty. As this occurs, Martha Kent is visting Jonathan in jail and he apologizes for not having more faith in their love for each other as he was honestly afraid that he would lose Martha to Lionel Luthor and all his wealth. After Pete and Clark leave the Wild Coyote, they're driving down the road when a tractor-trailer purposely runs them off the road into a field. From the truck a masked driver then pulls out a rifle and fires into Pete's gas tank causing his car to explode in a huge fireball!
Clark kicks the door off with his great strength and pulls Pete to safety before he can be harmed by the explosion and flames. Lex arrives and tells Clark he must be getting close to the truth as someone has tried to kill him and he now believes Jonathan Kent is innocent. The two decide to work together to help solve this mystery. Later that day there is an announcement made that Lionel Luthor is improving and may soon awaken from his coma. At the Talon Lana confronts Henry Small about his refusal to represent Jonathan Kent.
Henry tells her that the Luthors got him fired from his law firm years ago when he wouldn't help Lionel in some dirty dealings. He became a public defender and in a murder case he lost, his client was sentenced to death. After his execution, the family had the evidence retested and it proved the client innocent, but it was too late to save the man's life. Since that day Henry Small has practiced law from his home hiding from the world as he doesn't want to be responsible for anyone elses death.
But he has decided the time for hiding is over and he will defend Jonathan in this case. They visit Jonathan in jail and Henry tells him that of all the suspects, Dominic Santori's alibi is the shakiest but he needs the bartender to tell of his drugging Jonathan Kent, and the man has suddenly disappeared! Pete and Clark visit the now closed up Wild Coyote to search for the bartender even though the sheriff already looked there. When they get inside, Clark's x-ray vision finds the bartender dead and frozen in a meat locker in a back room. And when Clark sees a picture on the wall behind the freezer, he tells Pete he now knows who shot Lionel Luthor!
At the hospital in Lionel Luthor's darkened room, an unseen man enters and drawing a gun with a silencer he fires several times into the figure on the bed. Suddenly Clark appears and turning on the lights he shows the man that he has a camcorder and has him on film attempting to kill the dummy he has placed in the bed. And the man with the weapon is none other then Sheriff Ethan! Clark explains that Lex had his father moved secretly and then announced that his condition was improving in the hopes it would draw the killer out to finish the job and it worked! Ethan confesses he had the bartender drug Jonathan Kent and then he placed the gun and the bottle in his hands after shooting Lionel Luthor and then he held the gun in Jonathan Kent's hand and fired the bullet that Clark found in the shed. He then rants about how he hates the Luthors for everything they stand for and collapses on the floor in tears.
Later that day Lex visits Clark up in his barn loft and the two talk about how a friend could turn so dark and then betray someone who trusted him. Lex tells Clark his father seems to bring out the worst in people and goes to visit his father who is now awake and will indeed recover from his wounds. His father tells him that he used the sheriff, who was deeply in debt, to obtain dirt on the Lexcorp board members so he could buy up their shares and then buy out Lex's company. He now expects Lex to return to work for him and become the son by his side he's always wanted. Lex simply shakes his head in disgust at all this and leaves the room quietly.

Clark Kent: Tom Welling
Jonathan Kent: John Schneider
Martha Kent: Annette O'Toole
Lana Lang: Kristen Kreuk
Lex Luthor: Michael Rosenbaum
Pete Ross: Sam Jones III
Chloe Sullivan: Allison Mack
Dr. Frederick Walden: Rob Labelle

Our Story:
At the caves last seen in the episode "Skinwalker", hundreds of teens have converged for a rave party and it's in full swing when Chloe and Pete arrive. Wild music, lights, and partying kids combine for an odd image against the background of the ancient cave drawings on the walls. One teenager who's normally reserved at school suddenly climbs a lighttower and yelling that he's invincible suddenly jumps off the tower to his death. As Pete leans against a wall observing this in shock, something comes from behind the cave wall and bites his neck. Then Pete gets a strange expression on his face and starts to rock to the music!
The next day Clark is walking down the street when Pete tears straight up the sidewalk on his motorcycle doing wheelies and causing pedestrians to jump to safety. He tells Clark that he should start living for the moment and to take a chance with Lana and then tears away on his bike again straight up the sidewalk. Despite his odd behavior, Clark must think Pete has a point because he marches into the Talon coffeeshop and asks Lana for a date tomorrow and Lana happily agrees. Clark goes to the caves and Lex meets him there to tell him he's learned that Clark comes there every day.
Clark tells him he's writing a term paper on the drawings and that he is also reading a book by a Dr. Walden who's the world's foremost expert on this type of study. Lex tells him that his new security detail on the caves will prevent any more parties, but Clark will be allowed access to the caves. At the Talon, Chloe arrives and she and Lana talk over Lana's impending date with Clark as they both have been interested in him in the past. Clark arrives home and Jonathan Kent tells him he must buckle down with his schoolwork if he wants to be allowed out of the house to date Lana tomorrow and Clark agrees.
Lex Luthor calls the Dr. Walden in Clark's book to his mansion and hires the man to study the cave drawings to hopefully decipher their meaning. Chloe and Clark meet at the Torch school newspaper office and she tells Clark that two more teens were killed after the rave in similar fashion as the young man in the cave and now Clark is worried for Pete as he's skipped school that day. She also tells Clark the dead teens had small puncture wounds in their necks and their adrenalin glands were enlarged which would explain their and Pete's wild actions.
Clark is standing in front of the Talon later when he spots Pete across the street. As a bus comes down the street, Pete for no reason jumps right in front of it and only Clark's fantastic speed saves him. When Clark tells Pete he's taking him to see a doctor about his wild behavior, Pete starts screaming to the onlookers that Clark is an alien and he runs off in the confusion!
Clark and Chloe go to the caves to try and figure out what happened to Pete, but while Chloe takes some pictures of the drawings she's stopped by Dr. Walden who tells her that she and Clark must leave and he wants her film. As they argue over access to the caves, Chloe is bitten in the neck the same way Pete was. And when Lex tells Clark he and Chloe must respect the Doctor's wishes and leave, Chloe shoves the Doctor out of the way while cursing at him and refuses to give up her pictures! Later at his loft in the barn, Pete visits Clark and tells him to leave him alone once and for all about seeing a doctor and then uses a piece of green meteor rock on Clark to weaken him and convince him he's serious. He also threatens Clark with telling everyone he knows Clark has his spaceship hidden in the cellar!
Lex is called to the caves by Dr. Walden whose team has discovered a nest of strange fanged worms behind the walls. Though most were killed by the team using liquid nitrogen, a couple of the worms have been trapped and Lex instructs the Doctor to send them to Cadmus labs in Metropolis for analysis. Dr. Walden also tells Lex the languages on the walls are unlike anything ever seen on earth before. When Clark goes to the Torch to ask Chloe for help in finding Pete she comes onto him very strongly using all sorts of sexual innuendos but agrees.
Clark meets Lana in the Talon and tells her their date is in jeopardy as Pete's having a problem he must help him with, but then Pete and Chloe both come in and tell Lana Clark's just lying to her and she gets very upset. Then Pete slips a piece of red meteor rock into Clark's shirt pocket and Clark's eyes go red for a second and then he starts to act as wildly as his two friends and they all leave together! They all go to Clark's barn loft and Clark shows Chloe his fantastic abilities by way of Pete smashing a bat on him and then lighting a nearby lantern with his heat vision. Then when Chloe purposely jumps from the loft, Clark catches her below using his super-speed and strength.
Lex arrives and the three start to leave, but not before Lex tells Clark he's sorry but Dr. Walden won't allow Clark back in the caves. Clark's response is to shove Lex aside and warn him to not try and stop him from doing anything he wants to do. Then the three jump in Pete's car and he drives wildly around the back roads while Clark and Chloe make out in the back seat. They then go to the Talon and Clark and Chloe sit in a booth kissing wildly right in front of people. When Chloe rips Clark's shirt right off him, the piece of red meteor rock slips from his pocket and Clark suddenly reverts to his normal self. But not before Lana has seen them kissing each other and she leaves the room in tears.
Outside, Clark catches up to Pete and Chloe and tries to convince them that they're under the influence of the cave worms as he's seen them inside them with his x-ray vision. But Pete hides a green meteor rock in his fist and punches Clark in the mouth knocking him out. They then speed off in Pete's car to go jump a nearby gorge in their worm induced adrenalin state. Lana comes outside and throws a bucket of water on Clark to awaken him and he sees his two friends gone, and Lana refuses to speak to him. He speeds off to find the two before they can harm themselves.
Chloe and Pete are in front of the gorge in Pete's car and they decide to jump it despite the fact it means certain death. Pete hits the gas and the car flies towards the huge gap as the two scream wildly. The car leaps off the cliff's edge with them still yelling as it starts to plummet to earth. Just before it stikes Clark speeds up and catches the car before it can smash his friends to death inside. They yell as though they've won the super bowl as Clark informs them the party's over and takes then to the hospital. Later, after the parasitic worms have been removed amd the two are normal again, Chloe tells Clark she remembers nothing that happened and Clark is relieved to know his secret is still safe.
Lana arrives to visit Chloe, but she wants nothing to do with Clark, as she believes he was simply acting irresponsibly as no worms were inside him. Chloe asks Lana if she did anything to hurt her while the worm was inside her and Lana lies and tells her friend that it was another girl they don't know that she caught Clark kissing. Pete visits the Kents and apologizes for anything he did to Clark and Jonathan Kent reminds him that Clark's secret is a huge burden, and that Pete will always be a member of their family.
Clark goes to the Talon with a rose to give to Lana and to apologize to her. But when Lana asks him why he acted as he did he cannot answer as he'd have to reveal everything to her including his weakness to the red meteor rocks that caused his wild behavior. Clark leaves crestfallen and Lana is heartbroken as she throws the rose in the trash. Once again Clark's differences from everyone else have created a rift between he and Lana that seemingly cannot be closed.

Our Story:
In Edge City's Chinatown district a young man plays cards in an illegal gambling club. Using a camera secreted in a statue, he has an accomplice spying on his opponent's hands. But his helper is discovered by a club guard and dragged before him and then the guards open fire on him even as he runs for his life. He jumps on a motorcycle in an alley outside the club and races away but he is chased and the bike is shot out from under him. As he falls, Lex Luthor pulls up in a limousine and calling him Lucas tells him that they are brothers and then they both jump in the limo and race away safely!
Lex brings Lucas to the mansion and introduces him to their father Lionel who is pleased to meet him. But after Lucas leaves the room Lionel tells Lex he knows that Lucas is now 18 and that Lex will try to oust him by having Lucas and Lex vote against him at a board meeting. That day Clark goes to the Talon to apply for a job but Lana is apprehensive about hiring Clark who's known to run off inexplicably a lot making him undependable. Later, Lex takes Lucas to the Kent farm and introduces him to Clark and Pete but then Lex has to leave due to a page from his banker. Lucas plays a little basketball with the two boys and tries to take a cheap shot at Clark whose steel-like body gives Lucas a sore arm for his troubles.
Lex sees his father and tells him all his monies have suddenly been frozen at the bank and Lionel explains that since he aquired Lex's company he's shutting him out completely and wants him to move out of the mansion. And to Lex's surprise, Lucas announces he's siding with his father to shut out Lex! Lex warns Lucas not to trust their father and then having no place to go, he arrives at the Kent farm asking if he can stay there! The Kents agree and Lex arises early the next day and starts working hard at farm chores to the surprise of Jonathan Kent who tells Clark not to let Lex wander about freely due to the spaceship being hidden in the storm cellar.
Lex tells Clark he worked on a ranch in the summertime that his family once owned and he remembers those days fondly. He also tells Clark he wants to prove to Jonathan Kent once and for all that he can carry his own weight. Back at the mansion Lionel corners Lucas and asks him to sign over his shares in exchange for $10 million dollars but Lucas tells him he's worth five times that. When he signs the papers with an insult Lucas notices that Lionel reacts to seeing that but he's supposedly blind. He throws a pool ball from a nearby table at Lionel who ducks it and Lionel admits that he can see!
Lana decides to hire Clark despite his reputation when Lucas walks in and tells them both that he's the new partner in the Talon and Lex is out of the picture. Clark goes to see Chloe who tells him that Lucas's adoption papers appeared suddenly a few weeks back from the same charity that Lionel Luthor arranged his adoption through. Clark tells this to Lex who realizes that his father found Lucas before he did and used him as part of his plan to oust Lex. Lex goes to Lucas and again warns him that their father can't be trusted and also to beware as his enemies from Edge City are looking for him.
Clark shows up late for work and hearing that he was late, Lucas tells Lana to fire Clark but when she refuses Lucas threatens to shut the Talon coffeeshop down completely. As Lucas leaves out the Talon's back door Clark follows him to ask that he leave Lana out of the Luthor feud. Suddenly a motorcylist appears at the alley's end with a machine gun and races towards Lucas with his gun blazing. As Lucas turns and runs, Clark speeds alongside the bike knocking the man over. Then with his great speed he runs towards Lucas swatting the bullets out of midair with his bare hand and knocking him to the ground saving him, but meanwhile the cyclist races off.
Later it turns out that the shooter was someone that Lucas worked with in Edge City and that he was caught when Clark turned in the motorcycle's license plate. But while in police custody the man was mysteriously killed so no one can trace whoever hired him. Clark leaves from his job at the Talon as soon as he gets this news. Back at the Kent farm, Lex tells Jonathan Kent he's leaving and thanks him for their kindness and support. Jonathan Kent tells Lex he purposely gave Lex every dirty job to do and that Lex came through it all admirably. As they shake hands, Lucas comes from behind Jonathan Kent and knocks him out and then takes Lex hostage at gunpoint!
Clark visits Lionel Luthor at the mansion and tells him that he thinks that Lionel had the assassin killed to protect himself and Lionel denies it and tells Clark to leave. While in the hall, Clark overhears Lionel talking to Lucas on the phone who tells him that he's at the Luthorcorp building in Metropolis holding Lex as his prisoner. Lionel tells him he'll chopper in to meet him and not to harm Lex. When he arrives in Metropolis at his office, Lucas has Lex taped in a chair and is threatening to kill Lex and take his place in the family. When Lionel tells him not to shoot Lex, Lex realizes his father can see as he knew Lucas had a gun. But Lucas gives him no time to ponder this as he now holds his gun to Lionel and giving Lionel another gun he has, he tells him he's going to force him to kill Lex!
Clark has followed Lionel to the city and hiding in the hall he x-rays the room and sees the situation. He crawls through the heating duct system to where he's directly over top of the three men in the office. Lucas tells Lionel all this is payback for keeping him in the foster care system his whole life and from keeping anyone from adopting him depriving him of a normal life. When Lionel refuses to shoot Lex it looks as though Lucas will shoot Lionel with the gun he has on him. Unseen above them, Clark uses his heat vision to cause Lucas to drop his gun. When that happens, Lionel turns on Lucas and fires his gun point-blank at him while calling him a psychotic maniac!
But to Lionel's surprise the gun is only loaded with blanks! And then Lucas shows him that his other gun only has blanks also. He then frees Lex who explains that all this was his plan to show Lucas once and for all that their father cannot be trusted. Both of Lionel's sons then leave the room together. As they do, Lionel sees moltens drops of metal falling to the floor. He looks overhead and though Clark is gone, Lionel sees that the grate has been melted in a small circle and ponders this mystery. Clark arrives back at the Talon in time for Lana to close it and tell Clark his career there is over. When Clark asks Lana if this changes things between them, she tells him that things remain just as bad between them as they were before. Clark's acts of helping others has once again cost him a high price in his personal life.
Lex meets his father back at the mansion and Lionel tells Lex that he has announced to the world he can see again, even though his sight was restored weeks ago. Then he tells Lex that if he'll keep quiet about Lucas being alive, he'll give him back Lexcorp with a majority share so Lex can't lose his company again. Lex agrees but only as long as Lucas stays under his protection safely kept away from his father who he hates and Lionel reluctantly agrees. Later Lex visits Clark and tells him of all that's happened and that he's glad that Clark has a loving father and not one like his. He also thinks that although his father may want to rule the world, he believes that men like Clark's father will someday inherit it.

Martha Kent: Annette O'Toole
Lana Lang: Kristen Kreuk
Lex Luthor: Michael Rosenbaum
Dr. Neil Moore: Michael David Simms

Our Story:
Martha Kent enters the storm cellar with the flour container that holds the octagonal disk that is Clark's spaceship's activation key. She decides to bury the flour tin in the dirt after she digs a hole for it. But as she digs, a green dust is disturbed and she unknowingly breathes it in. She finally buries the can and covers it with cans of lead paint so Clark cannot find it and then returns to the kitchen where Jonathan Kent has just finished repairing a leak under the sink. She offers Jonathan and Clark some lemonade but suddenly she drops the pitcher and faints to the ground. When Clark catches her, Jonathan runs to their side to find she has stopped breathing!
At the hospital, Dr. Bryce assures Jonathan and Clark that Ma's condition has been stabilized and she is now breathing on her own. From Ma's blood samples the Doctor determines some sort of toxic shock has attacked Ma's system and she sends the samples on to Metropolis for further examination. Then she shocks Jonathan Kent by informing him that Martha is pregnant, although Jonathan tells the Doctor that it's been determined previously that Martha cannot bear children. Jonathan sends Clark to the Talon to complete delivery of prizes for a raffle that Martha had gathered for a benefit for the local food bank. There he sees Chloe, Pete, and Lana who all express great concern over Martha Kent.
Lex visits the Doctor as he's also greatly concerned over Martha Kent's condition and he finds out that Dr. Bryce has been offered a three-year fellowship at a prestigous hospital to do research which is the Doctor's greatest desire. He fears losing the Doctor but reassures her by telling her that there's nothing worse then a missed opportunity. Suddenly a Dr. Neil Moore from the Disease Control Center arrives announcing that Ma's tests have proven that it is indeed toxic shock from an unknown agent and that they are there to root it out. When Jonathan assures them that Martha was at the farm all weekend he is informed that the farm must be searched thoroughly until the agent is found.
Jonathan sends Clark to move his spaceship from the storm cellar and as Clark does so, he also breathes in the green dust without realizing it. Clark and Pete are driving down the road with the ship in the pickup to hide it at Pete's house when suddenly Clark gets dizzy and almost faints. Clark runs the truck off the road into a ditch and they get out to have Clark move the truck back on the road. But when he tries to do so, Clark finds his massive strength is gone! Then down the road we see the DCC caravan heading towards them with lights and sirens blazing as Pete and Clark struggle to right the truck. Clark's strength returns and he gets the truck back on the road just in time as the Disease Control Center vehicles tear by on their way to the Kent farm.
When Clark returns to the farm he sees it overrun by DCC agents in biosuits poring over the entire property. Then two agent's geiger counters detect the disk and they dig up the can containing it. They also find the dust in the storm cellar contains an irradiated spore, which is what attacked Martha Kent's system. As he orders the entire storm cellar sterilized, Dr. Moore questions Jonathan Kent as to what he knows about the odd disk they found hidden there and Jonathan denies any knowledge of it. Jonathan visits a now conscious Martha at the hospital and she tells him that when the ship glowed brightly once before in the storm cellar when they first found the key, she felt energy surge through her body healing it and that is why she was able to get pregnant. She also tells Jonathan she didn't tell he or Clark about the key as she feared that if Clark found out his true origins through the ship's activation, he might leave them.
Lana visits Clark at the farm and he tells her that he fears losing his mother to this deadly disease. Lana tries to reassure him, but even as she does so, suddenly Clark faints and tumbles down the front steps of the house. Jonathan gets Dr. Bryce to come to the farm to examine Clark and tells her he must have been exposed to the same toxic dust as Ma. When the Doctor tries to get Clark taken to the hospital Jonathan tells her that's not possible. Jonathan is shocked to see her successfully penetrate Clark's skin with a needle to obtain a blood sample. When she insists Clark be hospitalized, Jonathan tells her when she sees Clark's blood sample she'll understand why he cannot be scrutinized publicly. When she does see Clark's abnormal blood under a microscope, she knows something is very different about him indeed!
Chloe comes to the farm to visit Clark and as he lays in a feverish sleep on the couch she reads a letter to him confessing that she still cares about him much more then a friend would and hopes that one day he'll feel the same way about her. In his feverish state Clark calls her Lana and she leaves the farm in tears. Later, Jonathan decides to go get the key back from the DCC and take the ship to try and cure Ma. When Clark wakes up Jonathan tells him this, and he also tells him that Dr. Bryce has informed him that Martha will not survive the night. He tells Clark to stay and rest as he's still sick and then he leaves. He goes to the installation where the DCC took the key and cuts through the chain-link fence and sneaks in past armed sentries.
Weaving his way inside the center, he locates the storage room where they keep impounded items and he finds the key. But as he's leaving he is spotted and held at gunpoint by one of the guards. But Clark comes from behind and knocks the guard out and the two men race for the exit. As they go out the door, alarms sound loudly and they're chased as they try to escape. The guards see the Kent pickup speed away and give chase with humvees and helicopter. At the hospital, Martha suddenly goes into massive shock and starts to die! The pickup truck races down the road as the government forces chase them close behind.
Martha Kent is being worked on frantically by several people in the hospital but she isn't responding to anything they try. Up ahead in the road is a police roadblock that leaves the pickup truck no outlet for escape. It screams to a halt and is surrounded by police and government guards who all train their weapons on the vehicle and order it's occupant out. But when the driver emerges we see it's Pete Ross who has led the chase in another direction providing the Kents with a means for eluding the authorities! As this occurs Martha Kent's body gives out and Dr. Bryce has no choice but to declare her dead. As she does so, Jonathan and Clark arrive outside the hospital with the ship in the back of the truck they're driving.
Jonathan pulls a sickened Clark from the cab and Clark holds up the ship's key which floats into its slot in the side of the craft. The spaceship floats out of the truck bed and then a bright light explodes from it that envelops the two men and floods the entire hospital in a blinding glare. It flows over everyone and Clark is instantly healed and Martha Kent awakens in her bed to the amazement of the Doctor and her staff! The ship then stops glowing and floats back into the truck bed and Jonathan covers it up with a tarp. Later, Dr.Bryce tells the Kents that not only are Martha and Clark cured, but the baby growing inside Martha is perfectly healthy also. She asks them how this happened and what their explanation for Clark's blood is, but Jonathan simply says she'll have to believe in miracles and at that the Doctor quietly leaves the room.
Later outside the hospital we see Lex pay a Doctor for Martha Kent's file as he wants to know more about what happened also. Then he enters the hospital and offers the Doctor the key to his mansion with an offer to live there with him. He tells her he wants her to be happy with the research offer, but he also wants her to know he doesn't want to lose her and the two embrace and kiss. Lana goes to see Chloe to pick up the benefit programs and when she does she finds Chloe's discarded letter confessing her real feelings for Clark. Afterwards at the foodbank benefit being held at the Talon coffeeshop, Clark thanks Pete for his help in keeping the authorities from catching them. Chloe arrives and acts strangely towards Clark as she's still hurt over him calling for Lana in his delerium. Then Lana walks up to Clark and tells him that she now realizes he means a great deal to her which his illness brought home to her. As they smile at each other, we see Chloe watching them in the background with a look of pure heartbreak on her face.

Chloe Sullivan: Allison Mack

Our Story:
We have a bird's eye view of flying as the story opens, and it takes us over Smallville fields and farms, ultimately flying into the caves previously seen in the episodes "Skinwalker" and "Rush" where ancient drawings have been found which have some unknown connection to Clark. Then we see Clark is the one flying and he hovers horizontally in front of one set of drawings and then lands in front of them! Taking the octagonal piece of metal we now know is his spaceships "key", he inserts it into the slot in the same shape that sits in the drawings center. Then he touches the key and bright light floods over him and he blacks out. When he awakens he is in the middle of the highway in his pajamas and has nearly been run over by Lex Luthor who is just as surprised as he is!
Clark tries sneaking into his house but Martha and Jonathan Kent are waiting for him concerned because they couldn't find him. He explains that he's had dreams of flying all week and he always seems to end up in the caves in his dreams. He tells Martha and Jonathan that the dreams must have significance and he can no longer ignore the riddle of his unknown origin. At Lex's mansion, the scientist he hired to decipher the cave's drawings and symbols found within the cave is given a three-day deadline to decipher them or he will be fired. Clark, Chloe, Pete, and Lana all receive an assignment where they must fill in a chart showing their family trees which is especially hard for both Clark and Lana.
While discussing the chart with Chloe and Lana, Clark is suddenly assailed with a high-pitched whining in his ears that only he can detect. He leaves school and traces it back to the barn at home where Jonathan Kent has locked the ship's key in a toolbox. Clark breaks the lock and sees the key glowing brightly, but as soon as he touches it the key stops making the noise. He then goes to the cave and inserts the key in the slot and suddenly the wall shows multi-colors and the key opens into a pentagonal shape with holographic symbols being projected in front of Clark. Then he is speared straight through his body with a shaft of light that holds him in mid-air hovering until he finally passes out.
When Clark awakens, Lex and Dr. Walden are standing over him with questions he will not answer and he leaves. They discuss this but Lex tells the Doctor that this mystery will have to wait until the doctor unravels the symbol's meanings. Lana asks Chloe if she can borrow her PC for the assignment but when she does she opens a personal file of Chloe's that has pictures of Chloe and Clark at the spring formal and suddenly Chloe walks in and catches Lana snooping. She gets very angry and forbids Lana to have any access to her or her personal business.
Jonathan and Clark are loading hay in Pa's truck when Clark hears the high-pitched whine again and then his heat vision rips from his eyes without his making it happen and sets the side of the barn on fire just before Chloe arrives to pick up Clark for school. When Jonathan and Clark put out the fire with a nearby hose, they all see one of the cave symbols has now been burnt into the side of the barn! They can all only stare at this while Chloe snaps pictures with her camera. Afterward Clark tells Martha and Jonathan that after the incident in the cave he now understands the symbols and this one means hope. Later he goes to the Talon coffeeshop where he absent-mindedly fills out the family tree chart in the symbols from the cave. As Lex enters the Talon, Clark throws the chart away but Lex retrieves it and sees the symbols on it. He shows it to Doctor Walden and tells him to work with Clark to find out their meaning.
But the Doctor instead goes to the cave and he spots the key imbedded in the wall across from the symbols. He frees it and then he inserts it into the slot in the wall. It opens pentagonally again and floods the doctor with bright light which rams him into the opposite wall just as Clark enters the cave. Clark spots the key on the ground and pockets it before taking the doctor for help and he is hospitalized in a catatonic state with no hope of recovery. Clark visits Chloe and asks her to forgive Lana for snooping but Chloe is unreceptive. Then she sees several e-mails on her computer addressed to Clark from a V.Swann. When Clark opens the mail, he sees the symbol burnt in his barn and the word hope written below it and a message that says "I have something for you."
He and Pete meet afterwards and they send e-mail to V.Swann who sends Clark back a message which says, "I'm a friend" in the language Clark now understands. While Lex and Clark are discussing the stricken doctor, a special courier arrives with an envelope for Clark. Inside it is an invitation from Virgil Swann and it has a New York address on it. Though Martha and Jonathan are afraid for Clark they concede he must go meet this man if he can answer the mystery of Clark's beginnings. Chloe tells Clark that Virgil Swann is a reclusive billionaire who dropped out of the satellite communications business years ago and he hasn't been heard from until the e-mails to Clark. Lana prepares to move out of Chloe's house but Chloe interrupts this by showing Lana she has put Lana on her family tree chart as her sister as she knows they love each other as only friends can do.
Clark goes to the building in New York and enters a room inside where he meets Dr. Virgil Swann who is in a wheel chair. Dr. Swann tells Clark he started receiving messages from space when Clark arrived in the meteor shower. He shows Clark the first part of the message that reads, "This is Kal-El of Krypton, our infant son. Please protect him and keep him from evil". Clark denies he's Kal-El until the doctor assures him that everything they discuss will never leave the room. Then he shows Clark the second part of the message that reads, "We will be with you Kal-El for all the days of your life." Dr. Swann then tells Clark he traced the signal back into space but where Krypton should be there is only empty space.
When Clark asks if there are any others like him Dr. Swann tells him the only signal from the planet was about him. There are no others like him on Earth. He also tells Clark that he must make his own destiny now that he is here and not look for messages from space to find it but look inside himself for answers. Clark returns home and Jonathan finds him in the storm cellar with a heavy heart as he tells Jonathan that he is truly alone and the only one of his kind left. But Jonathan reminds him that Martha and Jonathan love Clark very much and he will never be alone in this life. Then Clark tells Jonathan he now knows that a panel from the ship is it's heart and he decides to activate it with Jonathan at his side.
He inserts the key in the ship which immediately floats in the air and opens up. The Clark inserts the panel and the ship displays a message from Clark's biological father in the Kryptonian language which Clark reads to Pa. It says, "On this third planet from this star, Sol, you will be a god among men. They are a flawed race. Rule them with strength my son. That is where your greatness lies." Clark tells Jonathan he worries that he was sent here to conquer the Earth and he fears turning into a tyrant. Jonathan tells Clark he raised him to be a good man and he doesn't believe that will ever happen. But as the two embrace each other as Father and Son, we see the fear in both their faces.

Our Story:
At the school's electronics labs students are working on several experiments but a new transfer student named Cyrus is being rude and plugging into people's power strips without even asking. Kyle, the school bully, and his two friends object and start to pick on Cyrus by shoving him around but Clark steps in on Cyrus's behalf. They back off but then Cyrus insults them and starts the hostilities up again. When they get ready to jump him however he looks at the tool board in the background and causes it to burst into flames while warning the toughs not to ever mess with him again!
Lana arrives at Clark's farm with her horse Tyson and when she tells Clark she needs a place to board him he offers his place. Lana happily agrees and the two seem mutually pleased at the arrangement. Meanwhile Dr. Helen Bryce confronts Lex with tabloid stories calling her a golddigger for going out with him. He calms her by explaining it's all part of being involved with the Luthors and then asks her if she is still going to move into the mansion with him. She hesitates and Lex reassures her there's no pressure and if she's changed her mind that's okay. She then tells him she will move in right away and they both are very happy about it.
Chloe tells Clark that Cyrus was treated as an outcast at his last school because he constantly told people he was an alien. She also tells him that Principal Reynolds suspended Cyrus over the fire incident and confiscated his electronics project. Clark decides to visit Cyrus at his new foster parent's home and Cyrus tells Clark he is indeed an alien who arrived on Earth the day of the meteor shower. He is currently building a transmitter which will signal his parents to come and get him and bring him back to his native planet.
Martha Kent tells Jonathan she's worried about her pregnancy as Clark's ship seemed to enable it and she wants to see Dr. Bryce for further examination. Jonathan says no as he knows that Dr. Bryce is dating Lex. That night Lana's horse Tyson falls ill and is found lying in the corral near death. While Clark and Lana wait for the vet to arrive Cyrus shows up and walking over to Tyson, he places his hands on the animal and a strange glow emanates from his hands into the horse. Suddenly Tyson jumps up and runs around the corral completly cured and healthy. Clark and Lana stare at Cyrus while Clark begins to realize Cyrus may indeed be from another planet!
Dr. Bryce has moved into the mansion and Lex gives her a master key to open every door, but she finds one room it will not open. A security guard tells her that room is off-limits to everyone except for Lex. Chloe tells Clark that magnesium strips behind the tool board were used to set it on fire using a remote detonator and he reminds Chloe she saw Cyrus cure Lana's horse. Chloe then tells Clark that he may have acquired his ability to heal from the meteorites which have affected several people oddly. Martha Kent decides to visit Dr. Bryce despite Pa's wishes and Dr. Bryce tells Martha she'll have to be honest with her about the pregnancy for the sake of her and the baby's safety.
When Clark visits Cyrus he instead finds Lex poking around Cyrus's workshop looking at drawings of a spaceship arriving during the meteor shower. He tells Clark he always thought a ship might have have arrived in just that manner and then leaves Clark alone. Cyrus arrives and tells Clark he needs his electronics project back as it's a transmitter for a signal he must send tomorrow at midnight if his parents are to find him and come to take him home. Clark and Cyrus go to the school and retrieve the transmitter but as they're leaving Kyle and his friends confront them looking for a fight. Clark uses his heat vision on Kyle's truck and the three toughs take off in fear thinking Cyrus did it. But then Cyrus tells Clark he knows that Clark actually did it and he now knows that Clark is an alien just like him!
While Pete and Clark are discussing Cyrus's possible origins, Lana arrives informing them that Cyrus' foster parents had child protection services take him away for testing as his wild behavior has fightened them. He's being held in restraints at Smallville General Hospital until mental tests prove he isn't dangerous to anyone. Cyrus begs Clark to free him, as he must be at his transmitter tower he built in the woods tonight at midnight if he is to be taken home by his alien parents. Clark frees him and Cyrus asks him if Clark would like to leave with him that night. Clark tells Cyrus the Earth is his real home and everything he cares about is there.
Dr. Bryce tells Lex she needs to know why she isn't allowed into that particular room in the mansion and Lex tells her it's simply a place for him to be alone and think. She tells Lex if their relationship is ever going to work that there can't be any locked doors between them. Chloe finds Clark and tells him she has discovered that Cyrus is really William Burnet whose parents were vaporized in their home by meteors the day of the shower. The couple that found Cyrus was only a quarter mile away that day and found the child not knowing who he really was.
But Cyrus at that moment is on his transmitter tower powering it up to signal what he thinks is an alien ship to take him away. As he prepares to send the signal, Kyle and his friends arrive and attach a chain from the tower to their truck and start to topple the tower while Cyrus stands precariously on top of it! Just as the tower begins to fall, Clark races up and going to the other side out of sight, he pulls the tower back upright despite the truck pulling at it. The toughs don't realize what's just happened and suddenly a bright light appears above the tower. At that moment the chain from the truck to the tower snaps and hits Kyle breaking his neck!
Cyrus thinks the ship is here for him but Clark tells him he must use his power to heal Kyle and save his life. Reluctantly Cyrus comes down off the tower and he touches Kyle's neck while concentrating deeply. The glow spreads from his hands into Kyle who suddenly bolts upright completely healed. He then jumps into the truck with his friends and they take off. Cyrus laments he's missed his chance to go home and suddenly collapses as Clark's feet. And then we see the lights overhead are coming from a State Police helicopter searching for Cyrus. Later Clark tells his parents that Kyle has suffered a complete mental breakdown and has been taken away to a hospital but he will probably never recover.
Lex finally lets Dr. Bryce into his secret room and we see it's filled with information and pictures all about Clark and his family! It seems he's been investigating them just as his father has. He's got computer reproductions of his accident that Clark saved him in. Also there are the alien cave drawings, the family tree Clark filled out in Kryptonese, pictures of the key to Clark's ship, and several other exhibits. He tells Dr. Bryce he finds the Kent family very interesting and asks if she agrees. But she has been examining Martha Kent and simply stares back at Lex in response.
That night Lana visits Clark and they talk about Cyrus and Clark asks Lana how she would react if she ever met a real alien. She tells Clark she would keep an open mind but a big part of her would be frightened by the prospect. He thanks her for being honest and the two fall into silence studying the stars in the evening sky. The universe stares back and keeps its secrets and mysteries to itself.

Our Story:
It's closing time at the Talon coffeeshop and Lana's cleaning up when Dr. Helen Bryce, Lex's lady love, suddenly sees a former beau sitting across from her. Suddenly the man disappears and she dismisses the event and leaves. That leaves three frat boys who have been drinking too much and one in particular, Andy Connors, suddenly makes an advance at Lana. She rebuffs him and in response he knocks her into a rack and onto the floor. Clark suddenly appears and the three leave, but Clark pursues them outside to tell them not to come back ever. Andy insults Lana and Clark gets mad and throwing two of them into a trash heap, he then takes Andy and throws him onto the hood of an approaching police car breaking its windshield. Out of the car comes the new sheriff in town, Nancy Adams, who immediately arrests Clark at gunpoint for misdemeanor assualt!
Sheriff Adams tells the Kents that she'll let Clark off with 40 hours of community service, but she is displeased with his past record at being at several crimes scenes and dissuades him from playing hero while she is Sheriff. At the hospital, Dr. Bryce gets flowers but when she turns around she again sees her old beau, Paul Hayden, whom she broke up with years ago standing in front of her. Lex comes in and the two spar verbally taking an instant dislike to each other. Clark starts his community service which is cleaning the streets of garbage and he sees Lana who tells him that the frat boy Andy is getting off scott free as her case is built on hearsay and not prosecutable.
Lex talks to Lana about the attacks and convinces her to let him train her in self-defense in case she ever needs it. When Clark gets home that day he finds out he's being sued by Andy for a million dollars in damages and the Kents are now in danger of losing their farm. Clark is enraged but Martha and Jonathan Kent calm him by telling him that with his great powers he must learn more control and not let temper rule his actions. That night Dr. Bryce's car won't start at the hospital and while Lex is on the way, suddenly Paul Hayden again shows up offering her a ride which she refuses. Lex arrives and seeing through Hayden's facade, he tells him to stay away from the Doctor if he doesn't want a more complicated life.
Hayden returns to his hotel room while we see that Lex already has a man named Meacham trailing him for surveillance. He enters his room and purposely rams his head into a large mirror causing severe cuts and bruises while smiling into the mirror. When he gets to the hospital for treatment, he tells them that Lex Luthor had him beaten up! The Sheriff warns Lex who denies having Hayden beaten and tells her that she is mistaken about who's the real criminal is in this case. He also finds out that Dr. Bryce broke up with Hayden because a former girlfriend told her he had physically abused her.
Lex trains Lana and she takes to it when he invokes her anger over feeling helpless during the attack. Clark sees Andy on the street and tries to apologize but Andy threatens him with further arrest for violating a restraining order on Clark. He then climbs into a truck with his frat buddies and when Clark x-rays inside it, he sees Andy discarding his neckbrace and moving physically with no injuries so now he's positive he's faking his injuries. Chloe and Clark talk and he expresses worry over Lana being too overconfident with her new training but Chloe convinces him by telling him that a woman needs to be self-assured just as any man does.
That night at the hospital, Dr. Bryce enters the Pathology lab to find the lights not working. When she goes to leave, Paul Hayden stops her and tells her he's there to save her from Lex and he wants her to come back to him. At that moment Lex calls her and answering her cell phone, she lets him know what's going on and he speeds for the hospital. Hayden flies into a wild rage and grabbing Helen, he beats her mercilessly while throwing her all over the room. When Lex finally gets there and runs into the room, he finds Dr. Bryce unconscious and bleeding badly and she is taken to the emergency room for treatment!
Clark tells Lana he knows Andy is faking his injuries but he can't find a way to prove it. Lex tells the Sheriff his man tailing Hayden has disappeared and she tells Lex she'll take care of Hayden and for him to stay out of it. Clark arrives at the hospital and has overheard this conversation and he speeds to Hayden's hotel room looking for him just in time to see Lex breaking into the room looking for Dr. Bryce's assailant. He joins him inside and they discover that Hayden has killed Meacham and taken his car. Lex takes the dead man's gun and the pair leave just as the Sheriff and her men arrive.
Lex finds out from a Lojack beacon installed on Meacham's car that Hayden has driven to the train station in order to get out of town. He and Clark head for the station with the Sheriff following closely behind. When they arrive they split up and Lex finds Hayden first and traps him in between cars and offers him a gun so the two can shoot it out. But when Hayden shoots at Lex he finds out the gun is empty and then Lex tells him he just gave him the gun to make it legal when he kills Hayden for what he's done!
Jumping at Lex, Hayden manages to get away into an empty train and Lex gives chase. In the empty kitchen car Lex gets jumped by Hayden and the two fight with all their strength to destroy one another. But Hayden stuns Lex and while he's down, he grabs a fireaxe from the wall to kill Lex. Clark x-rays into the car and seeing what's about to happen, he bangs into the car causing it to rock wildly making Hayden lose his balance. Lex kneels over the man pointing his gun at him telling it's time for him to die, but then he hesitates and instead knocks him out just as Clark and the Sheriff run inside. Lex tells the Sheriff he was just making a citizen's arrest and she warns Lex and Clark to never let her catch either one of them at one of her crime scenes ever again.
Lana invites Andy back to the Talon to tell him she knows he's faking his injuries and if he doesn't drop the lawsuit he'll be discovered and be in big trouble. In answer to that he drops his cane and tries to attack Lana again! She uses her self-defense training in good stead and with a well-placed shove and a spinning kick she drops Andy to the floor and calls the authorities on him. In return for his not being prosecuted, he agrees to drop his lawsuit against Clark. That night in his barn loft, Clark gets the rare chance to thank Lana for saving him for a change instead of the other way around and the two savor the moment together.
Back at the Luthor mansion, Dr. Bryce is recovering well and Lex enters the room after cancelling a board meeting to spend precious time with her. He tells Helen that the thought of what she would think of him if he killed Hayden is what kept him from doing so, and then he also says that it convinced him just how much he loves her. Then he takes out a huge diamond ring and proposes marriage to her. She smiles and the two embrace and kiss as they find new happiness with each other.

Our Story:
Clark and Lana enter the Talon Coffeeshop after working to get Lana ready for the upcoming equestrian show. Chloe comes in and tells Clark he's missed his deadline for the latest issue of the Torch high school paper due to his spending time with Lana. The two get upset with each other to the point where Clark quits his job on the paper. Meanwhile two men in masks are spearing a van with arrows from crossbows and holding onto wires attached to the bolts, they literally flip the van over. A third man comes up with a truck and they transfer a trunk from the van to their vehicle. Clark drives up on this scene and when he tries to stop them they toss him aside with strength that matches his own! He spots a high school ring on one and x-rays his mask to see the young man has a metal plate in his skull as they drive away.
Clark spots the young man with the plate the next day at school and Pete tells him he's Eric Marsh, the rising star of the baseball team. When they go to watch him workout, Eric uses a green inhaler before stepping to the plate and knocking balls right out of the park. And Pete tells Clark he wasn't a good player until recently. Lionel Luthor drops in on Lex at the mansion and Lex tells his father that Chloe has reported in the Torch that the hijacked truck was one of his fathers. But when he asks his father what was in the truck, Lionel gets evasive and leaves.
Henry Small visits Lana and she invites he and his wife to see her at the equestrian show and Henry says yes but tells Lana his wife won't come as she has had problems dealing with the fact that Henry is Lana'a biological father. Clark visits the Torch and finds out that Eric Marsh was a chemistry student who was caught in a lab blast which explains his metal plate but not his incredible strength. Chloe arrives and she and Clark spat again to the point where Chloe suggests they not even see each other as friends anymore. Clark sees Eric leaving school and decides to follow him.
He follows Eric to the Smallville Foundry where he sees Eric and his two friends unloading refined Kryptonite bars, which is what they stole from the Luthorcorp van. Then they take the bars and melt them down into a liquid form which they inhale to gain their great strength! Clark is caught by the three however, and they decide he cannot be allowed to live and they toss him into the blast furnace and leave with the Kryptonite! A minute later Clark rams the furnace door open and finding some coveralls nearby he heads for home. He tells Jonathan Kent all that's happened and that they can't tell the police for fear of the three young men using their power to hurt innocents.
But Clark decides to tip the police anonymously and they find the mask Eric used to hide his identity and the van driver id's it so Eric is arrested. But Eric sees Clark watching him and knows it was Clark who told the police about him. Lana sees Jennifer Small talking with a strange man and Mrs. Small also sees Lana has spotted her. She follows Lana to the Talon and informs her that the man is her divorce attorney and she is divorcing Henry Small as he constantly only thinks about Lana his newfound daughter to her exclusion.
Chloe visits the unconscious van driver to try and interview him but Lionel Luthor is in the room and confirms to Chloe that the man does work for him but he also tells her that the truck merely contained "industrial material". He also tells Chloe he's been following her work and then leaves. Lex visits Eric in jail and arranges to have him bailed out in exchange for the information that refined meteor bars were what were stolen the other night from Luthorcorp.
The next day Clark visits the Torch's office in school to find that the office has been torn to pieces and destroyed. He offers to help Chloe but she is too upset with the destruction and tells him to just go away and leave her alone. Then Eric sees Clark in the hall and tells him he knows that Clark told the police about him. He also tells Clark he may not be able to hurt him, but his parents are vulnerable and may get hurt which makes Clark race home. There in the ransacked barn, he finds his parents trussed up in the rafters like hunting trophies!
Clark covinces his parents they should leave for a few days so that they can't be attacked again and they agree. But before they go, Jonathan Kent tells Clark to remember he has other powers besides great strength and that he should use them to his advantage in the next encounter with the super-strong trio. Clark confronts Lex about bailing Eric out and Lex explains he did it to learn that his Father is refining meteor rocks. Then Clark suggests they set a trap to capture the trio once and for all.
Lex arranges for contacts within his father's company to leak out that they'll be shipping out another vanload of refined meteor bars. Lex has his security team in place and the trap is set. When Eric knocks out the van's driver, Clark uses his super speed to trail them to a warehouse ahead of Lex's men. They start to fight and get Clark down on the ground after pummelling him around the warehouse. Then Clark uses his heat-vision to drop a load of steel bars on one of then knocking him out. Then he takes a steel bar and moving at super-speed he ties the other one up leaving only Eric to face him. When Eric tries to smash him with a piece of concrete, Clark rams him into a nearby wall ending his threat.
Pete Ross takes the refined Kryptonite bars into the woods and buries them for Clark before the police arrive to arrest the trio of thieves. Then Clark visits Lex who questions just who was it that stopped the gang, but Clark isn't talking. Henry Small visits Lana at the Talon and she tells him that his wife wants to divorce him and it's probably best that he not contact Lana for a while until his problems are resolved.
Lionel Luthor visits Chloe at the Torch office to tell her he's donating a huge grant to the journalism department of the school to rebuild and update the destroyed newspaper's office. He also tells Chloe he might be able to arrange for her to write a column for the Daily Planet paper if things work out. When she asks him why he's doing all this he cites her "Wall of Weird" and thinks she can help him find out the truth behind Smallville's odd occurrences. He leaves her and we see that he is slowly drawing a net around the town and its inhabitants.

Our Story:
While cleaning up the Talon theater after a movie, a little ten year old girl suddenly shows up who frightens Lana badly as she is a childhood friend who died six years ago! No matter where she turns it seems the little girl is there and Lana cannot escape her. She screams and Clark enters the theater but the girl is gone by then. Clark leads a badly shaken Lana outside as we see the little girl watching them leave.
Lana is back in her room looking at old pictures of she and Emily, the little girl, when again the child appears and talks to her. Clark knocks on the door and again the child vanishes before Clark can see her. Lana takes Clark to a broken down bridge over the river where she tells him that Emily fell and drowned there years ago. Clark convinces her to contact Emily's father in Grandville as there must be some explanation for the girl's sudden appearances. But Emily's father only tells them he hasn't seen Emily since her death and then he leaves.
Lex is at his mansion trying to prepare for his wedding when his father Lionel comes in and gives Lex a honeymoon for two on a private island. He explains the gift is premature as he hasn't been invited to the wedding and Lex tells him that's no mistake as far as he's concerned. Meanwhile Clark goes to the Torch and borrows the computer to investigate Emily's death and Chloe tells Clark she knows Lana better then he and he shouldn't believe that the Lana he perceives her as is the true Lana.
Then we see Peter Dinsmore meeting his supposedly dead daughter Emily at their old Smallville house where Emily mourns the loss of her pet bunny rabbits. Mr. Dinsmore tells Emily that things have changed since she first died and she shouldn't see Lana again. Emily grows angry and refuses to obey her father. Then she incredibly runs away at super-speed, but not before impaling her father with a lawn ornament nearly killing him! Pete Ross and Clark go to Emily's grave and Clark x-rays inside the coffin to see an undisturbed body but suddenly they both see Emily in the graveyard!
Emily runs away at super-speed with Clark chasing her before he loses sight of her but he finds a necklace that dropped from her neck. Emily runs to the Talon where Lana is closing up and she asks Lana why she doesn't want to be her best friend anymore. When Clark reaches the Talon Emily once again disappears but Clark reassures Lana that Emily is indeed real as he and Pete have both seen her. He shows Lana the necklace and Lana confirms it is Emily's.
Lex finds his father visting Peter Dinsmore at the hospital and they verbally spar with Lionel claiming Dinsmore is a "former" employee of his. Lionel leaves and when Lex enters Dinsmore's room he finds Emily inside visting her father. He talks to her briefly and then Emily disappears from the room leaving Lex very curious about what's going on. Clark and Lana break into Peter Dinsmore's house in Grandville to find he has an entire bedroom downstairs set up for Emily with all her things inside it. Then Clark x-rays the walls to discover a hidden door behind a bookcase.
They enter the door which leads into a basement packed with laboratory gear and 5 foot long glass tubes. When they wipe the frost off of the tube's exteriors, they see that Dinsmore has been cloning Emily using kryptonite to enhance the clones! When one of the clones opens its eyes and stares right at Lana she screams in fear and backs into vials of liquid kryptonite which spill onto the floor. Clark immediately becomes ill from the green liquid and he fakes being scared also and the two teens flee the lab of horrors.
Clark and Lana retreat to the Kent farm and then call the sheriff to look into the lab they found in the Dinsmore household. While they wait, Martha and Jonathan Kent convince Lana to stay there until the child can be found and Lana's safety is assured. But the sheriff returns with the shocking news that they found nothing but an ordinary basement inside the Dinsmore house and there is no sign of anything unusual! Clark leaves Lana at the farm and he returns to the Dinsmore basement where he finds a forlorn Emily wondering what is going on. Clark gently tries to explain to her that she isn't the Emily that died years ago, but a new child who must live her own life.
But Emily sees someone coming and runs off just as Lex Luthor arrives in the basement. Clark and Lex compare notes and they are convinced that Lionel Luthor is having the cloning done and that's just one reason he's been refining meteor rocks for months now. It seems that Dinsmore worked for Lex's father as a cloning scientist and he has convinced the man to clone his own dead daughter and enhance her abilties with the Kryptonite!
Back at the Kent farm, Emily arrives and tells Lana she wants to go to the river so they can play as they once used to. When Lana refuses, Emily runs away from her towards the river with Lana in pursuit. As this happens Lex tries to convince Peter Dinsmore that his father will never allow Emily to live a normal life and he offers protection for her but Dinsmore refuses Lex's offer. He also warns Lex that Emily's rapid development means she hasn't developed a normal conscience or basic morality and that the enhanced child is therefore very dangerous!
Emily has lead Lana to the same bridge over the river where Lana tells her that years ago she had slipped and Emily had jumped into the river trying to save Lana. But the child could not swim in the swift current and tragically drowned while Lana managed to make it to shore. Lana tells Emily she wishes it could have been Emily that survived and then Emily tells her that this time Lana will be the one that drowns and with that she pushes Lana off the bridge and into the raging current!
Lana plummets into the waters and the shock of impact knocks her out and she sinks to the bottom. But Clark suddenly races past Emily at super-speed and diving into the water he finds Lana and carries her to safety where he revives her with artificial respiration. But when they look back at the bridge, Emily has once again vanished.
Lex confronts his father and tells him he knows that he has been secretly developing clones using the meteor rocks and Lionel Luthor denies it all. Then he tells Lex he has used his influence with the Governor to obtain control of the Kawatche caves where we saw Clark learn the kryptonian language. Lex has lost control of the caves and when his father leaves he is furious over the event. Back at the Kent farm we learn the sheriff hasn't had any success finding Emily and Lana tells Clark she is grateful for Clark's believing in her when she was frightened by what she thought was the ghost of Emily. The two hold hands and grow closer by the moment.
Then we see a new hidden facility where Emily has had another "bedroom" set up by Lionel Luthor and she is being observed by the elder Luthor and Peter Dinsmore. Lionel tells Dinsmore he is off the project for exposing Emily to the world and when Dinsmore objects, Luthor explains the clone-child is the property of Luthorcorp and he will do as he pleases with her. Then he enters the room with Emily and brings her a pet bunny as a gift. Then he tells her that from now on he'll be taking care of her. As he sits to play and talk with the kryptonite-enhanced child, we realize just how completely amoral and evil Lex's father truly is.

Our Story:
Dr. Frederick Walden, the linguist last seen left catatonic in the "Rosetta" episode, suddenly has a reversal of condition and is returning to life. Lex is summoned to the hospital and as he and a doctor look over Walden, the man suddenly bolts upright and screams, "The day is coming" before collapsing again. That night is the eve of Clark's birthday and Lana comes to his barn loft to present him with a birthday cake. Clark and Lana finally embrace and kiss after Clark tells Lana he won't ever keep his feelings for her secret anymore.
The next morning Lex arrives at the Kent farm to ask Martha and Jonathan Kent to stand in for his parents at his wedding rehearsal dinner and they gladly say yes. Then Lex tells Clark he'll seat Lana next to him at the dinner if he wants. Later at the Talon, Chloe talks to Lana telling her she's not invited to the festivities and when Clark arrives Chloe senses the two have grown closer and leaves with Pete. But when Clark asks Lana about sitting with him at the dinner Lana gets hesitant and tells Clark she thinks last night was a mistake!
Dr. Helen Bryce and Lex arrive at her office in the Smallville Medical Center to find it ransacked and the only thing missing is a vial of blood. When Dr. Bryce tells Jonathan Kent that the vial was one of Clark's that she obtained Jonathan tells her he supects Lex had a hand in the theft. Clark visits Lex and tells him of Lana's hesitancy and Lex tells Clark to press his case with Lana if he really wants to get closer to her. Clark meets Lana as she's out horse riding and tells her he really wants to pursue a deeper relationship with her but Lana once again says she's afraid of something going wrong. Then Clark suddenly hears a voice only he can hear saying, "The day is coming", and he runs off to track it down.
Lex and the Doctor are observing Dr. Walden through a glass enclosure in which Walden keeps saying, 'The day is coming" over and over. Suddenly Walden raises his palm to the glass and a white energy beam flies from his open palm to shatter the glass and Dr. Walden runs off in front of Lex and the Doctor. Lex calls Clark to the hospital room where he shows Clark that there are kryptonian symbols burnt into the ceiling and he asks Clark if he knows what they might mean. Clark denies any knowledge of any of this and leaves.
We next see Dr. Walden has gone to the Kawatche caves and he stands in front of the symbols where Clark learned the Kryptonian language and where the Doctor was stricken. He raises his palm to the octagonal opening where Clark's spaceship's key goes and again white energy pours from his upraised palm. The symbols on the wall rotate into a new position and the doctor then leaves. Dr. Bryce searches in Lex's study and finds a file on Martha Kent that obviously came from the hospital.
When she turns around Lionel Luthor is standing there and asks her why she's marrying Lex and she replies she loves Lex and he leaves. When Clark goes to the caves looking for Walden he runs into Lionel Luthor who tells Clark he's taken over the conservatorship of the caves, which upsets Clark. Then the elder Luthor sees the symbols have changed on the wall and questions Clark who denies any knowledge of what they mean. Clark tells Martha and Jonathan Kent that the symbols in the cave now say that "The day is coming when the last son will begin his quest to rule the third planet", and he expresses fear that that's his fate. Martha and Jonathan assure Clark they know his heart and that he would never do such a thing.
Back at the mansion, Lex and Lionel Luthor are verbally sparring with each other when Walden bursts into the room stating he's deciphered the writing in the caves. Lex tries to shut the man up but Lionel Luthor gets him to say that the symbols say "The last son will rule the planet". He then tells the Luthors he discerned that the last son is Clark Kent and he must be killed before he destroys them all! But before he can say anything more, the Doctor from the hospital shoots a tranquilizer dart into Walden and he's taken away in an ambulance.
Clark is practicing his speech for the wedding rehearsal dinner when Chloe visits and tries to reconcile with Clark as they've become estranged as of late. Clark is hesitant and tells Chloe it will happen in due time. At the dinner, Lex takes Clark aside and warns him about what Walden said and also tells Clark his father won't drop the matter and will investigate Clark. At that moment Lionel Luthor is talking to Chloe and tells her she can start writing a weekly column for the Daily Planet if she also agrees to privately investigate Clark Kent for him. When Chloe refuses, Lionel asks her if she thinks Clark would give up his dreams for her as readily as she is for him and then he leaves.
On the way to the hospital Dr. Walden awakens and using his newfound powers he blasts his way out of the ambulance to freedom. As this happens Clark is giving his speech at the dinner and it involves taking a chance with love which touches all present including Lana. Then the key to his spaceship emits a high pitched whine which only Clark can hear and he races home to find out what's going on. There he finds Dr. Walden has taken the key and he raises his palm amd blasts Clark through the barn wall telling him he must kill him!
He again hits Clark with his energy beam and holds him suspended in mid-air writhing in pain until Clark uses his heat vision to burn Waldens shoulder and stop his attack. Then he runs away at super-speed as Walden keeps shooting energy at him. But Walden's energy beam hits a fuel storage tank as Clark runs and the ensuing explosion incinerates Walden burning him to a crisp! Clark pulls the key from his scorched hand and pockets it.
At the mansion after the dinner Helen questions Lex about the file she found and asks Lex if he had anything to do with the break-in at her office. Lex tells her that maybe she shouldn't marry him if she believes such a thing of him and she agrees and leaves upsetting Lex. After she goes, Lex opens a secret compartment in the room and opens a box inside to reveal he does have the vial of Clark's blood and he did orchestrate the break-in at Dr. Bryce's office. The authorities tell Clark that he isn't responsible for Walden's death which relieves the Kent family.
But Clark still fears that his ultimate destiny is to conquer the Earth and Martha and Jonathan tell him they cannot believe he'd ever do such a thing. Lionel Luthor goes to see Walden's corpse and when he sees the octagonal shape with kryptonian symbols burnt into Walden's scorched palm, he orders the doctor to send him the hand for observation! Lana drops by Clark's after the dinner and she tells him she's afraid but willing to try to get closer if Clark still wants to. They both agree to try and then embrace and kiss just as Chloe was walking into the barn to visit Clark. The two don't notice her, nor do they see her leave the scene in tears.
After a few minutes together Lana leaves and after she does, Clark hears a strident voice speak saying, "Kalel, it is time". He follows the voice to the storm cellar where his spaceship is kept hidden. From inside the cellar comes a blinding light as the voice repeats the message. Clark steps to the door and then descends the stairs to see the cause. As he does so, we know that he's starting the journey into the rest of his fantastic destiny.

Hearing the voice of his biological father calling him from his ship, Clark enters the storm cellar where it is kept. The ship is glowing brightly and the voice explains that he is Jor-el, Clark's father, and it is time for Clark to leave everything behind and to follow the destiny the voice will lead him to. He also is upset over the fact his life was heading towards where he wanted it to be when all this took place. Martha and Jonathan reassure Clark that he is the one who must choose and make his own destiny, not the voice of his long dead father. Clark tells them his life is with them in Smallville and that's where he's staying. At the mansion, Lex is looking at the vial of blood he stole from his fiancee's office. He leaves the room to see Helen and his father talking but when he asks what's going on, she says she was refusing his father's wedding gift envelope to her.
Lex shows Helen the blood and then he confesses that he broke into her office to get the blood to hopefully find the answers to many questions he has since arriving in Smallville. She tells him she's tired of being a pawn between he and his father and leaves. Lana and Clark are taking some quiet time together and Clark frets that he may lose all this although he can't tell Lana the reason for his fears. Then he asks her to sit at Lex's wedding with him and she says she will as long as they tell Chloe they're officially a couple now. Clark says he'll tell Chloe and that seems to settle that problem.
Clark visits Lex who tells him the wedding's off due to something he did to betray Helen that he then confessed to. Then Lex points out that his father is installing equipment in the Kawatche caves that he's just seized control of from Lex. Clark goes to the caves to see the equipment and Lionel Luthor finds him there. Lionel Luthor tells Clark he has had a copy of the key, which he doesn't know fits Clark's ship as well as an opening in the caves, made out of the meteor rock. He shows it to Clark who sickens at once and he backs away from the key as Lionel puts it away. He tells Clark the key will reveal the mystery of the symbols and the cave to him once and for all and Clark leaves.
Chloe finds Lana at home trying on her dress for the wedding and Lana nervously tells Chloe that Clark is looking for her to tell her something. That evening Clark and Jonathan watch the sun set and after Jonathan leaves Clark hears Jor-el's voice again calling him. He enters the storm cellar and Jor-el says he has until noon tomorrow to begin his destiny. When Clark refuses the ship blasts Clark with white energy holding him against the wall while branding his chest with a symbol that Jor-el says is the mark of his ancestors. He also reminds Clark he has no choice and will obey him despite his wishes, or Clark will end up hurting those he cares for!
Martha and Jonathan leave for the wedding which as far as they know is still on. And then Helen enters the mansion to tell Lex she's still angry at him, but she still loves him and will still marry him. Clark shows Pete the brand on his chest and then he tells Pete he's going to destroy the ship using the kryptonite key that Lionel Luthor had made. Pete tries to talk Clark out of this telling him it's too dangerous, but Clark is determined to free himself from the ship forever. Pete goes to the cave and distracts Lionel Luthor and his aides long enough for Clark to steal the key at super-speed.
Lex is met at the altar by Martha and Jonathan Kent who give him a compass so he never loses his way and Lex is touched by the sentiment. Lana comes to get Clark for the wedding but he tells her he must do something very important first for their future together and then says he'll meet her at the church. As Lena leaves, Clark stares at her telling her he wants to remember this moment and how she looks. The church is filled and Lex is getting nervous and asks the Kents where Clark is. And when Lana arrives alone and tells the Kents that Clark is doing something very important at home, they tell Lex to go ahead with the wedding and head for the farm in their truck.
Just as Clark heads for the storm cellar, Chloe pulls up asking him what's going on. Clark brushes her off and Chloe angrily confronts Clark about knowing that he and Lana are together now and that Clark didn't tell her about it. Clark tries to apologize but Chloe angrily storms off. As the wedding march is played at the church and Helen walks down the aisle, we see Martha and Jonathan racing down the road to get to Clark in time. As they do, Clark enters the storm cellar and prepares to destroy the ship and all links to his past.
Clark takes out the kryptonite key and even though he is in great pain from it, he manages to insert it into the slot made for it on his spaceship. Suddenly the ship quivers and vibrates wildy and bright green light fills the room as Clark tries to crawl away to safety. The ship shakes violently and suddenly with a great blast of white light, it explodes and sends a shock wave flying from the spot. Just as Martha and Jonathan arrive at the farm the shock wave hits their truck sending it rolling over and over many times!
At the airport, Lex and Helen are delayed as they get on their private jet as the spaceship's destruction has caused a countywide power blackout. Finally the jet's engines start up and they get on board. As they seat themselves, Helen hands Lex a glass and they toast their happiness although Helen has an odd look on her face. Clark climbs out of what is now a twenty-foot wide crater where the storm cellar once was and sees his parents in the overturned truck. They go to the hospital where Jonathan is allright but Martha is still being looked at. When Clark tells Jonathan what he did Jonathan is very angry with Clark over his actions causing Martha to be injured.
The Doctor comes out and tells Jonathan that Martha Kent only has a concussion and will recover, but sadly she has lost the baby she was carrying and Pa's heartbreak is obvious. He turns his back on Clark and enters the room to console Martha who is stricken by the news they have just received. Clark runs for home and Lana finds him standing in the blast crater. He tells her he's a danger to everyone he loves just as the voice said he'd be and he runs off. Chloe goes to Lionel Luthor and she agrees to investigate Clark for him in exchange for his helping her journalism career and when she asks about his interest in Clark he tells her he'll tell her at a later date.
Clark goes to Chloe's office at the Torch newspaper in the high school and despite Pete Ross's warnings, he takes a class ring that has red kryptonite in it. He tells Pete he wants to wear the ring to feel better and forget about all that he's done wrong. He runs home and meets Lana at the farm as he gets out his motorcycle and prepares to leave Smallville for good. Lana begs him to stay as she says his parents and she need him but despite her pleas, he puts on the red ring and it immediately affects him and he tells her goodbye and rides away leaving her in tears.
Lex awakens to the sounds of his jet's engines shutting down and the jet is heading for a crash landing. He looks for Helen but she and the pilots are all gone from the jet and all the instruments have all been smashed in the cockpit. The last thing Lex sees is the water racing towards him as the jet plummets into it and crashes. And as this happens, we see Clark riding away from Smallville on his motorcycle leaving everything he knows and loves behind forever!
