Toys of Steel Review – DC Icons Justice League 7-Pack Figure Set

By Mario Bennese

After many months of this item being listed as “coming soon,” the DC Icons Justice League set has finally been released. Initially intended to showcase the outfits of the League around the events of “The Darkseid War,” the announcement of the Rebirth initiative seemingly prompted DC Collectibles to redesign the figures to mirror the current suits.

4Design – 4: Whenever I add a new Superman figure to my collection, I place it with my other Superman figures. With this set, I just couldn’t separate Superman from the team. These figures look absolutely fantastic, especially together. Each of the figures are sculpted with care and astounding detail. All figures are scaled proportionately.

If I had to make a complaint, the face sculpts on Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Superman are a bit off. They aren’t bad sculpts, but they could be a little better. I also would have appreciated alternate hands as all seven figures have clenched fists.

4Articulation – 4: These figures are intended for posing and they do just that. Each figure features double-jointed elbows and knees, two-point articulation torsos, hinged wrists, and pivoting ankles. From what I remember, the articulation on these figures is about on point with the standard DC Icons Superman figure. However, these figures are unable to look all the way up. For some of these characters, this is inconsequential, but it’d be nice to have a Superman figure that can actually look up for flying poses.

5Quality Control – 5: The quality control on these figures is so near perfect that I’ve just decided to give it a perfect score. There is only one incredibly minor, noticeable paint defect that I’ve spotted.

5Value – 5: Coming in at US$99.99, this figure set is a bargain. Individual DC Icons figures cost roughly $30. These are highly-articulated, highly-detailed figures that, for the most part, warrant the premium price tag. Considering that seven completely new figures are included in this set, $100 is a reasonable price.

I really wanted to get my hands on a Superman Rebirth figure but ever since the awesomeness which is the Superman Reborn costume came about I think I’ll just wait until that figure comes out.
