The Amazing Story of Superman

Warner Bros. Entertainment will be live streaming the documentary “The Amazing Story of Superman” via YouTube on Tuesday, May 5 at 5.00pm PT.

Discover the history of DC Comics’ Superman in this 2006 documentary with Kevin Smith as he live tweets (https://twitter.com/ThatKevinSmith) along!

The story of Superman is the story of the most influential, merchandised, and imitated character in the history of superheroes. But more than that, it is also the story of America. Since his arrival in the pages of Detective Comics in 1938, Superman has emerged as the ultimate symbol of the American dream – an immigrant who leaves his devastated homeland, to triumph in the land of opportunity. Created by the sons of Jewish immigrants during a turbulent decade that saw the rise of totalitarian dictatorships, gangsterism, and the Great Depression, Superman – the unflinching champion of truth, justice and the American way – struck an immediate chord among both children and adults. Now, follow the story of a superhero who has endured generations of cultural change and spread to become a worldwide icon in Look, Up In The Sky! The Amazing Story Of Superman.

CreditsNOTE: Superman Homepage owner Steve Younis received a credit for research assistance and reference material in this documentary.

A lot’s happened to Superman in the intervening 14 years (I suddenly feel old), so I wonder if they will update the film. Also two very high profile contributors to the documentary are now in the figurative dog house. Kevin Spacey is the narrator and not only are there prominent interviews with Bryan Singer, but if I recall correctly he was also a producer… Maybe that will be updated as well?
