“Support Metropolis: Saturn to Super Run” Fundraiser

Fundraiser

Superman fan Nicholas Mastramico is once again organizing the #SupportMetropolis: Saturn to Super Run, a 289 mile virtual run from his home town in Huntsville, Alabama to the Superman Statue in Metropolis, Illinois.

Nearly one year ago Nicholas started the charitable campaign named #SUPPORTMETROPOLIS. What started out with a single t-shirt design with the hopes of helping a family and business in the city of Metropolis IL soon became two, then three and finally up to six family and locally owned businesses affected by the shutdowns caused by the pandemic.

100% of all profits associated with the #SUPPORTMETROPOLIS campaigns have been donated to the following six businesses in Metropolis IL.

  • Super Museum
  • Sissy’s – A Sweet Shoppe
  • Creations The Florist, Inc
  • Sixth and Vintage
  • Super City Antiques & Collectibles
  • The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce

The 2021 Superman Celebration is returning after having to cancel during the shutdowns of 2020 but is being postponed until the end of the summer and Nicholas plans on being there even if he will have to run there… or virtually run there.

And that was the origin of the ‘Saturn to Super’ virtual run. There are 289 miles separating Nicholas’ hometown of Huntsville, Alabama starting at the Space and Rocket Center’s Saturn V rocket and Metropolis Illinois’ famous 15 tall Superman Statue. Starting May 1st, he plans to virtually run every single mile of that distance to raise funds for these locally owned businesses before the opening of the 2021 Superman Celebration on July 31st.

Nicholas will be running from 4-6 miles a day locally (give or take weather permitting) to accumulate the 289 miles before that deadline and will update his progress twice a week on the Nicholas Cara Facebook page to keep him honest.

Nicholas is asking for your help. “Now since I’m going to putting my time, legs and considerably large amount of sweat into this campaign,” he says. “I need you, Super fans around the world, to help the cause by supporting this run on our GoFundMe page. Whether it’s $5 or $100, every last cent donated to support the ‘Saturn to Super’ run will be donated directly to the local and family owned businesses of the #SUPPORTMETROPOLIS program.”

You can follow along the journey through the virtual neighborhoods of Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois as Nicholas races to the Superman Statue. Help support this campaign, which is another leg in our attempts to help out family owned businesses hurt by the terrible shutdowns of 2020.
