I totally agree with these poll results. Christopher Reeve as Superman, truly made us “believe a man can fly.” 🙂

Superman has always been popular to greater or lesser degree and still is but it was really after ’86 that it became hip to hate on him.

Yeah I don’t understand it either MattComics. Growing up, I would be made fun of for my fandom for Superman. I just don’t understand why anyone would think Superman isn’t cool.

I don’t either really. I don’t necessarily demand that he be everybody’s favorite but there just seem to be some people they feel like he needs to be more like Batman or Wolverine or even The Punisher to be cool or there’s people who feel like the character needs to answer for the failings of humanity to people who have been taught that being a Batman fan means you HAVE TO hate Superman to even people who hate him for being nice. Exactly MattComics! And I would like to add that it’s disturbing that some people like the characters Omniman, Brightburn, and Homelander. Twisted versions of Superman. In fact, I was looking at the YouTube comments for one of the trailers for the Injustice movie and I was shocked to see that there are fans of the Injustice Superman who like that version of Superman. Disturbing is what this is.

I’m not old enough to actually know the answer to this, but I assume he was most popular between his creation and up to the ’50s, before Marvel started getting big. I’m sure the Donner movie reignited some interest, but that entire era did lead to a whole reboot of the character, so I’d be surprised if he was really at the height of his popularity at that time.

I am not surprised 1978-85 won the poll. The first two movies, well maybe Superman III as well. Not to mention The Superfriends as well as some TV stations playing the George Reeves TV show or Filmation cartoons.
