We don’t see him that often, and really only once in live-action form, but Brainiac received the most amount of votes for this poll, doubling the votes for second placed Darkseid.

I went with Darkseid on this one. I find Brainiac overrated and there’s fifty versions of him, so I wouldn’t even know which one to pick (though the STAS version is a favorite of mine as well). I know most people view Darkseid as a Justice League villain (and rightly so), but he does play better off of Superman than the rest of the League. I like the contrast between the ultra powerful despot and the far less powerful, but far more determined benevolent “fireman”. The ranking of supervillians for this list is pretty much how I would rank each villain. I would however switch Cyborg Superman with Metallo depending on the story. And Mongul I think should be lower on the list than cyborg and metallo. But yeah, this poll looks about right in my opinion.

As I’ve often said it’s both astonishing and appalling to me that we’re in the year 2021 and Superman has never faced Brainiac in a live action movie. They always default to Luthor or Zod. Hell they couldn’t even do Doomsday without making him Zod!! I remember as a kid when the credits for Superman II rolled thinking surely they’re gonna do Brainiac next! The time would have been ripe for it because in the 80’s sci-fi was huge and his robotic design (the one seen in the comics and the Super Powers collection) would have been PERFECT!
