Superman vs. Omicron in “World’s Finest”

World's Finest #297

While the world deals with another variant of COVID-19 known as Omicron, Superman and Batman fought a character by the same name back in 1983.

Omicron first appeared in “World’s Finest #296” (October 1983) in a 5-part story written by David Anthony Kraft with art by Ross Andru, Gene Colan and Sal Amendola. In the story titled “The Pantheon” we are introduced to seven robotic-looking entities called The Pantheon, of which Omicron is one. These villains are, as always, looking to rule the earth.

In issue #297 of “World’s Finest” Superman is attacked by Omicron, who slaughters worshippers at a mosque in Cairo to distract Superman from further investigating The Pantheon’s Cosmic Tree.

Omicron is able to shape-shift and grow in size, and exhibits strength almost on par with Superman’s. Our heroes are ultimately victorious against The Pantheon, and Omicron is never seen again in comic book form.

Omicron sounds like something out of a Transformers movie.
