Superman fan and Fox 2 presenter Jay Towers recently paid tribute to “Superman: The Movie” on the occasion of the film’s 40th anniversary.
The above video was produced ahead of Motor City Comic Con, which took place in mid-May 2018.
At the time the film came out, the station airing this segment, WJBK-TV channel 2 in Detroit was a longtime CBS affiliate.
Christopher Reeve’s Superman’s line about being a friend is so true. Even to this day I can’t help but smile when I hear that line. I miss both Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. I wish that they could’ve seen the 40th anniversary of this wonderful masterpiece that they made. May they both rest in piece.
It makes me smile to. Every time. In a way it sums Superman up completely. It would be so very easy for him to be a god or a tyrant, or a bully or otherwise force his will on the world but he chooses to be a friend. ..and that’s why we love him.
Wow, didn’t think that video would be that long. Nice that he got some time to really honor the movie.
I wish Superman: The Movie would get a proper blu-ray restoration where they really go in, and clean up the picture/audio. Would have been a great opportunity to do it for the 40th anniversary. Would also love to see the movie get one of those ultimate visual history books with lots of pictures, artwork, and behind the scenes stories.
