“Superman: The Golden Age” – A Free Fan Comic

Adrien van Viersen, a lifelong Superman fan and storyboard artist (X2, X3, Game of Thrones, and The Flash), presents SUPERMAN: THE GOLDEN AGE – A FAN COMIC. This recently completed ‘rejected pitch’ tells the untold origin of the secret identity from the Golden Age perspective in this ‘love letter’ to the greatest fictional character of all time.

Now I really want to read the rest of the story he alludes to in the intro. I’d even pay cash money for it, lol. I hope I get to someday.

It’s a good story. I can see the influence of the Modern Age Superman on his storytelling, though, which conflicts with the tales and traits of the Golden Age Superman. Still, nicely done.

Don’t know that I like the idea of Superman stealing his look and name from someone else but I enjoyed it. Using the 30’s setting to just go all in on the circus strongman inspiration is actually a neat touch. I like the whole premise of the story happening between two panels of the first incarnation of Superman’s origin. Yeah it doesn’t read like a story from that period but I can still buy into this being the same character.
