Australian fans were treated to an action-packed panel featuring Tyler Hoechlin during his recent appearance at Goldnova conventions in Melbourne and the Gold Coast. The star, who played the role of Superman in four seasons of the TV series “Superman & Lois”, shared behind-the-scenes stories, reflected on his journey as the Man of Steel, and even addressed rumors about almost donning a very different superhero cape.

Stunts, Laughs, and Freezing Rain
When asked about his favorite stunts across his action-heavy roles, Hoechlin revealed his dedication to the craft goes beyond mere acting. Hoechlin highlighted two particularly memorable fight sequences from the TV series. The first was his brawl with Bizarro’s Lieutenant Anderson, played by his “Teen Wolf” co-star Ian Bohen. “That was like the dirtiest and grittiest fight that we had done on that show, because we knew each other so well,” Hoechlin explained, adding that the familiarity between them allowed for a more intense performance.
His other standout moment came during Season 4’s rainy confrontation with Lex Luthor. Despite knowing it would mean enduring Vancouver’s frigid temperatures, Hoechlin advocated for filming in the rain. “It was very cold, and very uncomfortable,” he admitted, “But I think it was really worth it, and one of the cooler things to have on film.”
Canine Co-Stars and Emotional Endings
Warning: “Superman & Lois” finale spoilers ahead.
In a touching anecdote about filming the finale, Hoechlin shared a heartwarming moment from his first scene with the canine actor who would play the show’s version of Krypto. While shooting Clark Kent’s heart attack scene, where Hoechlin had to collapse to the ground, the dog—not understanding it was all pretend—immediately rushed to check on him. “He was so worried about me, it was the sweetest thing ever,” Hoechlin recalled fondly.
Regarding the controversial decision to show Superman’s natural death in the series finale—a first in live-action Superman portrayals—Hoechlin expressed his support for the creative choice. “I think it was gutsy for them to do that,” he said, praising the team for “pulling it off really well” and giving the story “a really nice ending from front to back.”
The Batman Rumor That Almost Was
In one of the panel’s most surprising revelations, Hoechlin addressed longstanding rumors that he was once considered for the role of Batman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU. The actor recalled being bombarded with questions at San Diego Comic-Con before his Superman casting, with speculation running so rampant that he called his agents to ask if there was any truth to it.
“To the point that I called my agents and managers and was like, ‘Hey, is there something going on that you guys aren’t telling me?’ And they’re like, ‘Dude, we don’t know where it’s coming from, but we aren’t going to stop it,'” he shared with a laugh. While Hoechlin confirmed he was likely “nowhere near” actually landing the role, he admitted Batman “is a character I always wanted to play.”
Passing the Super-Torch
With James Gunn’s “Superman” film starring David Corenswet set to premiere in July, Hoechlin graciously offered his thoughts on seeing someone new don the iconic suit. “I hope it’s the best one ever. I hope he’s better than me, because that’s what you guys get now,” he said generously.
“I love what we did with our version of the show and with the character, I’m super proud of it,” Hoechlin continued. “I don’t know what else we would have done different. So, all I have left to do is hope that the next guy is better.”
Hoechlin’s appearance delighted fans across Australia, proving that whether he’s playing a werewolf, Superman, or potentially Batman someday, his genuine personality and dedication to his craft continue to win hearts worldwide.
