Naming rights for sporting stadiums is big business, and when the AFL (Australian Football League) announced that Etihad Stadium in Melbourne would be changing its name to Marvel Stadium, “AFL Game Day” TV host Hamish McLachlan created a stir amongst fans when he wore a Superman T-Shirt to celebrate the rebranding.
From September 1 the stadium will now be known as Marvel Stadium, with the AFL signing an eight-year naming rights deal with the Walt Disney Company. Channel 7 presenter Hamish McLachlan stated at the start of Sunday’s show that he was “Marvelling up”, except he was wearing a Superman T-Shirt underneath his jacket.
Later in the show McLachlan embarrassingly noted, “We’re asking everyone today about superheroes because of Marvel. I’m wearing Superman – he isn’t a Marvel character apparently, but he was my favorite superhero.”
This caused quite a stir on social media, with fans ripping in to the TV host about his mistake.
Hamish McLachlan wore a superman shirt on game day… they aren’t marvel. They are dc – you absolute clown

@Channel7 Can you please explain to and Hamish McLachlan that Superman is not part of Marvel Comics and is part of DC Comics ,Just shows how little accuracy is important to the Australian Sports media , if i were in charge of Marvel i would be pi553d off big time

Eh. Awkward and embarrassing, sure.
But not everybody outside the geekosphere knows which company which hero belongs to even if they have a favorite because they aren’t steeped in it all like we are let alone taking sides in petty brand wars.
Superman is my favorite as well but both pantheons of heroes are cool in different ways.
Yeah i agree. If youre not claiming to be well versed in comic book lore than its not a big deal at all and perfectly understandable to make a mistake. Its not worth the effort to get worked up about stuff like this.
I find it more funny than aggravating
to be fair… with Superman being one of the few DC characters to do multiple crossovers with Marvel characters….Superman VS Spiderman, Superman and Spiderman, JLA VS Avengers, Marvel VS DC… Superman has been in more Marvel comics then some of Marvels lesser known villains.. easy mistake to make…
Angry Marvel fans/Remember this if it weren’t for Superman your hero wouldn’t exist !!
