“Superman” Receives Critics Choice Awards Nomination for Visual Effects

James Gunn’s “Superman” movie has earned a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards, placing the DC superhero film alongside major blockbusters in one of Hollywood’s most competitive technical categories.

The film’s visual effects team—Stephane Ceretti, Enrico Damm, Stéphane Nazé, and Guy Williams—will compete against heavy hitters including “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, “F1”, “Frankenstein”, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”, and “Sinners” when the awards ceremony airs live on January 4, 2026.

Hosted by returning emcee Chelsea Handler, the Critics Choice Awards will broadcast from Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar on E! and USA Network. The recognition marks an early win for Warner Bros.’ DC reboot as it flies into awards season, with critics acknowledging the visual craftsmanship behind bringing the Man of Steel back to the big screen.
