“Superman” Movie’s Visual Design Earns Double Recognition

James Gunn’s “Superman” film is earning acclaim for its striking visual design, receiving nominations from two major industry guilds.

Production Designer Beth Mickle has been nominated for Excellence in Production Design for a Fantasy Feature Film at the 30th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards. Winners will be announced on February 28, 2026. The nomination recognizes Mickle’s work creating the film’s distinctive icy Fortress of Solitude and other visually arresting environments.

The film also received recognition from the Set Decorators Society of America, with Set Decorator Rosemary Brandenburg and Production Designer Beth Mickle nominated for Best Achievement in Décor/Design of a Fantasy or Science Fiction Feature Film at the SDSA Awards. Winners will be announced on February 21, 2026.

Critics praised the film’s visual aesthetic as “bright, colorful and visually popping” and “a kaleidoscope for the eyes,” showcasing crystalline structures and bold, vibrant production design that captured Superman’s hopeful spirit.
