“Superman” Movie Review – Great Scott!

Scotty V is back with a video review of the new “Superman” movie, which he hails as a “Fabulous” and “Joyous” masterpiece.

In a special return episode of “Great Scott,” host Scotty V has delivered an overwhelmingly positive A+ review of the new “Superman” film, describing it as the “most joyous, happy, optimistic, uplifting, inspirational time” he’s had at the cinema in years.

Scotty, who is on record as appreciating previous DC Extended Universe films like “Man of Steel”, “Batman v Superman”, and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, noted that while he enjoyed those, they often portrayed a “depressed” and “downtrodden” Superman with a darker aesthetic and soul. The new “Superman” movie, under James Gunn, marks a significant shift, offering a “fully realized fantasy comic book science fiction world” that immediately immerses viewers in Metropolis with classic comic book elements, including villains, technology, dialogue, and heroes such as Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, Krypto, and Superman himself.

David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman is particularly lauded by Scotty, who describes him as “charismatic,” “hopeful,” and “optimistic,” carrying “the weight of Superman” from his first appearance on screen. Scotty even suggests that Corenswet’s Superman might be considered “the most Superman” seen on screen, potentially surpassing even Christopher Reeve in its optimistic approach. He highlighted Superman’s core desire to “save everyone” and “help everyone,” even above his own safety, portraying an authentic, heartfelt, and enthusiastic hero.

Addressing some early criticisms and fan discussions, Scotty clarified that a scene often perceived as Superman “yelling at Lois” is, in context, merely him being “emphatic about what he believes in” during an intense interview, rather than a display of aggression. He attributes such negative online chatter to a segment of fandom resistant to change.

Scotty also refuted claims that Superman is consistently beaten throughout the film, clarifying the nature of Ultraman (a clone created by Lex, with hints suggesting a Bizarro-like imperfect clone) and noting Superman’s survival of a black hole scenario through the proton river in the Pocket Universe.

The film’s soundtrack, which expertly interweaves new compositions with the classic John Williams theme, also received high praise for its emotional impact. Despite a brief moment where Hawkgirl “murders” a dictator (a scene whose full implications or Superman’s awareness of it remain unclear), the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive.

Scotty wholeheartedly recommends the film, stating it’s “not to be missed” for fans of Superman, comic books, dogs (thanks to Krypto!), romance, action, and fantasy. “It has everything that you would want,” he concludes, urging everyone to “go out and check it out because it is fantastic”. He humorously added a plea for less merchandise, as it’s “killing my wallet”.
