With Thanksgiving being celebrated in the USA today, here’s a look back at Superman’s history with Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Did you know (according to The History Channel) the modern Superman balloon, at 104 feet long, is the largest balloon ever to appear in the history of the Thanksgiving Day Parade and likely always will be due to new restrictions put in place on the permissible size of the balloons?
A Superman balloon first featured in the parade in 1939. The balloon was so large it needed to be handled by 50 people.
The second Superman balloon first appeared in 1966 and, like its predecessor, featured an upright design.
The third Superman balloon first featured in the 1982 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and was created to place Superman in a horizontal flying pose.
The video clip below shows the same Superman balloon two years later in 1984.
However the same Superman balloon didn’t fair too well a year later in 1985.
There really should be a Superman balloon every year at Thanksgiving.
Wishing everyone at the Supermanhomepage a Happy Thanksgiving
