Superheroes Assemble in Newly Released “Justice League: Mortals” Team Image

Thanks to Collider.com, another image from the never-made “Justice League: Mortal” film has surfaced online.

The image shows Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern together, although all the men in costume are stand-ins, Megan Gale is the only actual cast member in the image, the others are apparently stand-ins.

With George Miller as director, “Justice League: Mortal” was set to star D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Adam Brody as The Flash, rapper/actor Common as Green Lantern, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, and Teresa Palmer as Talia al Ghul. The Writer’s strike in 2007 as well as a change in tax break advantages in Australia resulted in the project being cancelled.

Definitely appreciate the line-up since it includes J’Onn and Green Lantern. From what little I can tell from this grainy photo The Flash looks good. Batman is just typical black bodyarmor like they always give him in movies. Aquaman’s codpiece is disturbing. ..and I’ll never understand giving Superman blue boots instead of red. Makes him look like he’s got feety pajamas.

Like the Flash suit. The rest look like better than average Comic Con costumes…

Wish we a had a high resolution photo. The costumes look kinda OK. But the rebirth Superman without hos red boots is kinda weird. Like a pyjama.

The suits look like cosplay costumes.

I think the cosplay thing is kind of relative. People do some cazy and complicated stuff with cosplays now. So much so that I think Peter Parker making the Spider-Man suit would actually be more plausible now rather than less.

The only drastic costume change is of course superman. And as always it’s because they can’t just embrace who he is and feel they have to change him to be more appealing. Of all the changes over the years to him, I feel that the whole ‘making him cool and a badass’ has been the biggest misstep. They managed to make Captain America arguably the most popular MCU character without betraying his character. I actually feel that Chris Evans’s Cap is more Superman than anything we’ve got since the animated series.

How is changing his costume “betraying his character”, his costume is not who he is, changing his look is not a betrayal. Superman started out as “cool and a badass”, go look at his early stories. What do we know about his character portayal from this picture? Nothing. For all we know this could have been the closest to source version so far. I am so tired of that weak argument that taking off his underwear is a ruination of a character that has had dozens of costume variations over the course of 80 yrs. And MCU’s Captain America costume… Read more »

I wasn’t saying that the lack of underwear was betraying his character, but that some creators and writers are always apologizing for him and overdoing it on trying to make him cool in the writing of the character. I could take the underwear or leave them, im unaffected either way. That’s not what makes the character for me and yes i have read the early stories, but he has evolved over the years. They went for the dark knight treatment with this current cinematic version and some people have not been able to connect with him. Not all. Personally he… Read more »

Or maybe it was a homage to the very first issue of action comics. Superman had no red boots.

For anyone interested, look up on Youtube the story of the canceled Justice League game that was going to be based on “Mortal”. I’m sure the costumes would’ve got some tweaks if the film had moved further into production, but you’ll get a better idea of what they were going to look like based on what pre-Alpha gameplay footage of the game has survived.

The game looks pretty neat actually. But wasn’t the film canned like the day before they were supposed to start shooting? I would think these would be the final suits and the classic costumes featured in the games are basically place holders.

Did it? It was so long ago, I don’t remember the exact details.
