DC Studios breaks new ground with platform-wide trailer launch across 13 countries
In a groundbreaking marketing move, DC Studios’ upcoming “Supergirl” film made history as the first movie trailer ever to be served to every single TikTok user in the United States and 12 other territories.
The takeover, which took place on Saturday, December 13, means the new “Supergirl” trailer—which debuted Thursday—appeared as the first video for all TikTok users in 13 countries, including the U.S., Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, and Australia.
TikTok positioned this as a test case for Hollywood studios looking to tap into the platform’s massive reach among younger audiences. For a film starring 25-year-old Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s edgier cousin, the exposure is substantial.
Warner Bros., the parent studio, is also the first to test a new TikTok feature allowing “Supergirl” to interact with the platform’s logo. The promotion extends beyond digital, with the trailer appearing in high-profile locations like Times Square in New York and London’s Now Vista Building. TikTok also launched a dedicated Spotlight Page featuring film information and creator content.
Whether this unprecedented marketing strategy pays off could reshape how studios approach social media promotion in the streaming age.
The new “Supergirl” movie stars Milly Alcock in the title role, along with Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura, with Jason Momoa making an appearance as Lobo. The film is said to be based on Tom King’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” comic book saga.
DC Studios has set a June 26, 2026 release date for “Supergirl”.
