Superman Homepage reviewer T.A. Ewart (aka liheibao) reviews episodes from the “Supergirl” TV series, airing on The CW.

Check out his review of the 17th episode of Season 2 in which a large bounty is put out on Supergirl and aliens from far and near attack National City intent on taking out the woman of steel. Meanwhile, Alex and Maggie run into Maggie’s ex-girlfriend, Emily, who is in town for a week. And Hank gets an interesting order from President Marsdin.

3Rating – 3 (out of 5): A solid episode, with direction by Kevin Smith, no less, (catch the Star Wars reference?), but one that has nearly no connection to the earlier actions of the season. Teri Hatcher does a nice turn as the vengeful mother-not-in-law, while Kevin Sorbo does his best to be the evolved male… and ends up dead. This installment had all of the relationship drag which annoys viewers who cannot withstand them. Mon-El looks completely domesticated, which would be fine, if he had anything else to do aside of fawn over and worship Kara. It’s ironic that he’s placed in the same corner that female characters have struggled not to be placed in. He’s as evolved as his father. J’onn disobeying a direct order from the POTUS was ludicrous. He should be fired, but thankfully the president isn’t legitimate. This could have been an action packed adventure, with Supergirl showcasing some skill and beating down bounty hunters. Instead we were given Elektra with Kryptonite.

Alex and Maggie’s subplot was unneeded and I have to ask why it was placed here at all. Jimmy appears for a hot instant this episode. Welcome back, Jimmy! He gets hit and disappears for the rest of the show. See ya, Pal! However, we are treated to more of Alex and Maggie, with no connection to the overall story. Maggie cheated on her ex-girlfriend of five years, many moons ago – so what? We know they like each other, and there is no development for all of the reveal. No, the idea is just to keep them visible, not viable. With Mon-El seemingly staying around for the long haul, Kara now has a boyfriend and two former love interests on the show. Someone has to go. Bye Jimmy! You may not be Kara’s true love, but you’ll always be Superman’s Pal!
