Second Brandon Routh “Crisis” Superman Picture

Yet ANOTHER picture (above) of Brandon Routh as Superman in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover has emerged, this time from Routh’s own Instagram account.

Featuring, as before, a Kingdom Come inspired suit, the image teases the story to come in this summer’s big crossover.

Routh captioned the picture:

“… I’m always around.” #CrisisOnInfiniteEarths#Superman

They’re bringing in way too many people, which amounts to stunt casting at this point. They couldn’t even pull it off with one nostalgic character last year. This year they’re bringing in three different versions of Superman and, as I read a couple of days ago, they’re even bringing in the Huntress from that forgotten Birds of Prey show on The WB. They’ll have to use all of these characters alongside the regulars and whatever silly little relationship drama they have going. The chances of Routh, Welling or even Hoechlin doing anything of note are minuscule.

I really like that line, “I’m always around.” Recently watched Superman Returns again and still enjoy the Superman scenes. What drags the movie down of course is the poor version of Lex Luthor and his henchmen as the villain.

Sigh….. if only Superman had an actual villain to fight instead of giant growing land made out of Kryptonite for that film. Hopefully they will remedy that mistake and give him someone to fight. Maybe actually go toe to toe against Luthor in his battle armor for this event? Hopefully

…and then the Warner Execs give us a complete over-reaction by having “MOS” being complete disaster-porn action… another reason to envy Marvel having their own Studio..

SR would have been epic with just a bit more action… instead we get MOS – all action, no heart..

Batman Returns would have been great with just a bit more levity… instead we get Batman Forever/Batman and Robin – cartoon/campy atrocities… why does WB think it has to be all or nothing??

They went with a re-boot because in their words, “Sr didn’t position Superman where we wanted him to be”. And had it made that extra $100mill they would have made at least one of the planned sequel(s). And I know I’m probably on the outside regarding Marvels attempts but just haven’t found their stories and characters that great. Was is amazing to me is that they apparently can manipulate their characters in ways that totally change everything about them and it’s all accepted. WB/DC do it and their beaten to a pulp. I found MOS, being a total re-boot, not… Read more »

Marvel’s characterizations are all pretty spot on. They might modernize some details of their stories but they act like who they are, that’s the difference. You can dislike Marvel all you want, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you can’t say they didn’t do right by their characters.

Right by their characters????????????

1. Ironman pees in suit while getting drunk

2. Gave us Fat-Thor

3. Hulk reduced to Professor Hulk that wears glasses

4. Waspman that grows to 50 feet tall

5. Spiderboy pops fifty foot legs out of his back

Those few examples are defined as “doing right by their characters????”

Iron man is a drunk in the comics, we’ve already been over that in another post. Fat Thor is representative of ptsd and he proves to himself that even then he is still worthy of MJOLNIR Professor Hulk is very much out of the comics Antman does grow 50ft in the comics, he has gone by Giantman as well as Antman and Hornet Robotic legs that pop out of the back are also directly from the comicbooks, in both the Iron Spider armour he got from Tony during Civil War and the costume he wore while inhabited by Dr Octopus… Read more »

You’re just reaching now.

Firstly, that really doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with characterization.

Secondly, why wouldn’t Thor take it exactly? Does the God of Thunder seem especially germaphobic to you?

: Sooo you’ve never read(or even seen) a marvel comic. Got it.

ALL OF THAT except for maybe fat thor(i never read thor so I don’t know for sure if that happened, but I have heard that Mjolnir has the ability to change appearance completely, so it’s possible it was a short story arc that the hammer then fixed), is STRAIGHT from the comics.

And with a better designed suit, The Superman costume on “Returns” was a dissaster, looked a cheap improvised cosplay one with a scuba dive wetsuit, a speedo bathing suit and a pair of biker boots. It made Routh look ridicolous and not so strong as you could see on the youtube videos who showed his training.

THAT…is your definition. It was certainly different than what we were all used to which was ChrisR AND his look. But it didn’t take long watching SR in getting used to it and in quite a few scenes actually liking the new look. But of course if your a SR hater from the first scene on then nothing going to change one’s mind. You obviously appear to be.

Well you know we probably would have gotten that in the sequels had they made them. But I never found Spacey to be a terrible Luthor. I think they anticipated a greater acceptance from the movie audience regarding re-introducing him. IMO the sequels would have given us the action some thought was missing from SR. I thought Singer did do an excellent job of show casing all of Superman’s powers. I still put the flying scenes up against against anything we’ve seen so far.

I enjoy Superman Returns for what it is, but I fought it when it was new and I stand by that. I’m certain a sequel would’ve delivered on the action, but that was the least of my problems with that version of Superman. I simply had no interest to see a series of Superman movies that stuck to the world and characterization of the overplayed Donner version of Superman, in which he was already a dad to boot. Superman The Move is a classic for a reason, but it was also made well before I was even born. I wanted… Read more »

Well Singer regarding SR as he said, paid homage to the first two Donner movies. And they went that route because it had been a LONG time since we had anything Superman on the big screen. And at the time the Donner/CR movies were still held as a bench mark. So playing off them seemed like a sure bet. I would also say that had they continued on with the planned sequels they would have veered away from the Donner era and started to develop and bring BR’s Superman into our present day without the Donner baggage. The few Donner… Read more »

I love the fact that it has the ‘S’ textured motif like the Superman returns suit..
hopefully this is just a nod to the fans, and not a suggestion that this will be in the SR continuity… because I just can’t get over that ‘dead-beat-Dad’/illegitimate child/slept with Lois then left for 6 years without saying goodbye idea…

I thought the “dead beat dad” was way over played. But that and a couple of other questionable scenes were made into over whelming topics that IMO helped SR in failing to reach the financial box office success it should have. Too many people paid too much attention to the negative internet babble. Too harsh as well.

I think you’re right. The neckline is a lot lower (in fact, maybe lower than Hoechlin’s suit) and the trunks sit higher on his midsection, thus making his proportions even out.

It looks like it also has some Reeve Superman inspiration as well. Even more so than in Returns in my opinion. The S of course isn’t, but the rest just looks like something Reeve would have worn for a return story if it wasn’t for his tragic accident.

If you look closer, the texture on the suit is similar to the one on the “Returns” suit with all the mini ‘S’ logos. Nicely done, CW. Now just don’t screw our Superman over with all your WOKE agenda & Uber-Jobbing.

I’m glad to have him back as Supes. He looks just as good if not better than he did in the first released photo of him in the SR suit. We as fans of Brandon are happy he is returning as Superman. As well as being finally joyed and relieved he gets a second chance. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in his shoes once the offer landed on his lap. He must have been caught off guard. The role made him a star no question about it.
Very very happy for him and I’m almost certain he will give the role the justice it deserves.

Will he be Clark Kent as well as Superman? Will he look like the Clark Kent from the kingdom come graphic novel, or will he be in his traditional Clark Kent attire?

In Kingdom Come Superman didn’t truly resume being Clark Kent until the end when Diana gave him glasses as a reminder of his humanity. We might see him in his overalls the way he was at the beginning of the story when he was self-exiled into that holo-deck version of the farm in The Fortress of Solitude.

I just wish they’d cast Routh as the CW’s full-time Superman from the start. I’m not a fan of Tyler Hoechlin. Brandon Routh and Christopher Reeve both played Superman as a compassionate protector of mankind. Henry Cavill gave us a Superman with gravitas and complexity (at least he did in MoS and BvS …). Hoechlin’s a lightweight by comparison.

I will agree with you on that Routh should have been casted back in season 2 of Supergirl. While I am a big fan of Tyler’s version of Superman, I am an even bigger fan of Routh’s Superman. And even though I’m a fan of Tyler’s Superman, I can’t deny that they made a lot mistakes with his version of Superman. Maybe by having Routh’s Superman in this crisis crossover, it will rectify the mistakes Tyler’s had made. If it turns out that Tyler’s Superman won’t survive the crossover but Routh’s does, that might be a way of fixing the… Read more »

Another way of looking at it is if Brandon was casted back in season 2, his version would have then had the criticisms that Tyler now does as Superman. Which I’m glad that he doesn’t have those criticisms. Again like I said before, I’m a big fan of Tyler’s Superman, but if I had to choose between Tyler’s and Brandon’s versions of Superman, I’d pick Brandon’s. ( Sorry Tyler) As for Cavill’s version, I admit I have never been a fan. It’s just not the version of Superman that I like. For me, whenever I see a Superman film or… Read more »

Routh was great in SR. His role as Superman, the special effects and the entire structure of the movie had a lot of money towards making it. You can’t look at that movie, even today and say it has anything cheap in it, especially anything Superman. The point being we’re not going to get anything of that caliber in this cross over. Hopefully they’ll be able to pull it off with out any obvious eye rolling.

I do agree that Routh was great in that film. For all the problems that Superman Returns film had, Brandon definitely wasn’t one of them. As for the special effects for the crossover, I can’t say since I don’t know what the budget is for special effects for movies or tv shows. If I had to guess, we most likely and probably will see similar special effects like what we saw in previous crossovers. As for the story part of it. It’s really anyone’s guess at this point. I’m just hoping that they do right by Routh.
