Reverting Superman’s Status Quo – Poll Results

In the latest Superman Homepage Member Poll we asked you the following question:

Which change in Superman’s status quo would you most like to see changed back?

The vast majority of fans would like to see Superman’s secret identity reinstated. When Brian Michael Bendis wrote the comic book story in which Superman revealed to the world that he was Clark Kent, many fans weren’t impressed. While recent stories haven’t really focused on that aspect of the story, it remains a sticking point for many readers. However, the upcoming story in which Jon Kent takes over being Superman from his father is another idea that 22% of you aren’t in love with either.

Here’s the complete voting breakdown:

If they allow Superman to actually BE Superman, everything else will fall into place. For whatever reason, a certain cynicism seems to be taking hold over Superman; the secret identity issue is part of it, and I know that sooner or later it will be fixed. If I were King of the World (or the Chairman at DC); I’d restore the secret identity, I’ve come to like Jonathan Kent as a boy learning in the shadow of his father (I prefer Conner as Superboy, but what are you gonna do), so I would make him younger again, and I would… Read more »

I didn’t vote on this, simply because I couldn’t really pick. Almost every choice they’ve made recently in changing the status quo has been wrong. Except the one about the tone in movies. The top one would be the secret identity thing; I refuse to read any Superman books, until they undo the reveal. Also, I’m all for removing the red trunks. Let the character evolve, visually. Now, all the Jon stuff… I preferred it when Jon was 10 and Superman was a dad and he was, you know, Superman, but to be perfectly honest I’ve always been a bigger… Read more »

Sorry but Clark Kent/Kal-El is Superman and has a secret identity as Clark Kent. Any alternative to those is, in my opinion, stupid.

I wish I could have voted for both of the top 2 and Jon being made a kid again and his not being a brooding sadsack in movies. But first and foremost secret identity back now! I don’t even want a explanation or a storyline, just get it f’ing done! Page one, it’s back and go!

“brooding and angry”?? Story line events would most likely revolve around altering his moods. But I really don’t see where in any of the movies, he’s been overwhelmingly displaying those qualities.

I wonder if writers will return the top two soon.
