Rachel Brosnahan Spills Details on Lois Lane and Superman’s Relationship on “The Kelly Clarkson Show”

Rachel Brosnahan, set to portray Lois Lane in the upcoming “Superman” film, made an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” tonight. Brosnahan offered some intriguing insights into the movie’s unique approach to the beloved characters and their relationship dynamics.

During her conversation, Brosnahan revealed that director James Gunn made a deliberate choice to depart from the familiar Superman origin story. Instead of the traditional narrative where Superman and Lois Lane are strangers and she’s investigating him, the film kicks off with their relationship already established in the world. Brosnahan confirmed that when audiences meet them, Clark Kent is already working as a journalist at the Daily Planet, and there’s clearly “some love in the air” between the two.

The focus of the film, Brosnahan explained, appears to be on the evolving nature of Clark and Lois’s relationship. They are depicted at a pivotal moment, “trying to figure out if this was just a fling or if this is a forever thing”. This internal conflict is heightened by their “totally opposite world views”. Lois Lane is characterized as someone who “prides herself on being 10 steps ahead of everyone at any given moment,” showcasing her quick wit and investigative prowess. In contrast, Clark is described as “radically present and in the moment”. These fundamental differences mean that “they butt up against each other sometimes” and possess “really different views of how to solve problems”. Brosnahan emphasized that viewers will see them “working it out in real time” as the movie unfolds.

Towards the end of her revelations, Brosnahan lightheartedly remarked on James Gunn being “pretty free with some of these spoilers,” adding with a chuckle that she hoped they wouldn’t “Tom Holland” her next – a playful nod to actor Tom Holland’s reputation for accidentally revealing plot points.

“Superman” will be in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11, 2025, and internationally beginning 9 July 2025, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
