Orange Kryptonite Explained – “DC League of Super-Pets”

We all know that green kryptonite weakens Superman and other Kryptonians like Krypto the Superdog, with prolonged exposure to the radioactive rock likely to be deadly. In the “DC League of Super-Pets” animated movie, green kryptonite is used on both Superman and Krypto to take away their powers. However, another form of kryptonite is also an important plot point in the movie… Orange kryptonite.

In “DC League of Super-Pets,” Lex Luthor brings an orange kryptonite meteor to Earth, hoping to use it to give himself superpowers. While his plan fails, a shard of the meteor is captured by Lulu, Luthor’s discarded hairless guinea pig who he had experimented on, who is caged within an animal shelter in Metropolis. The orange kryptonite gives super powers to the pets exposed to the rock’s glow. Lulu, decides to use her newfound powers to conquer the world.

Orange kryptonite debuted in the comic book “Krypto the Superdog #4” (with a cover date of February 2007). Orange kryptonite provides super-abilities to any animal that comes into contact with it for 24 hours, after which the power fade.

In the story titled “The Purr-fect crime,” Isis and Snooky Wookums have stolen orange kryptonite, giving them temporary super powers. It’s up to Krypto, with the help of Ace, Streaky, and the Dog-Star Patrol to stop them.

Orange kryptonite was also seen in the comic book “Superman Family Adventures #9” (with a cover date of March 2013), however it is seen but not used in the story.

In “DC League of Super-Pets” the powers granted to the animals by orange kryptonite doesn’t seem to have a 24 hour limit. Their powers seem to be permanent.

That’s the history behind orange kryptonite!
