Mourners paid tribute to 6-year-old Jacob Hall at his funeral this morning by wearing superhero costumes. The Townville, South Carolina boy was fatally shot at his kindergarten in late September when a 14-year-old allegedly opened fire on the school’s playground.
Young Jacob, who loved superheroes, was taken to hospital, but tragically died on October 1.
During the service, one speaker said that superhero stories are about good versus evil. “We live in a dark world,” but “the good” will win, he said, adding that Jacob would tell the community to return to the school to prove evil did not win.
🙁 So sad and heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers goes out to his family and friends.
As sad as this is, it is a touching way to honor this child’s memory, to send him off in a way that cherishes who he was and what he loved.
This is actually only about 30 miles from me where this happened. Such a horrible tragedy. Many businesses are here in SC are doing fundraisers and taking donations to give to the family to pay for the funeral and medical expenses.
I came to superheroes as a kid myself. When I was little they inspired me and lit up my imagination. I can’t help but think it was like that for Jacob to. I think it is a beautiful thing that his family and friends have chosen to honor him by celebrating something that was close to his heart even as they go through their own sadness and pain. Oh my God. May his soul find eternal peace. What a waste. A tragic bloody waste. I pray that his family find the strength to be strong through this difficult time.
