October 4, 2016: Gotham Reference in “Supergirl” Doesn’t Mean a Batman Crossover

During the second Season 2 trailer for “Supergirl”, one of the bystanders rescued by Superman exclaims, “We’re moving back to Gotham”. Upon hearing that fans automatically leaped to the conclusion that Batman was confirmed in this universe and that we might see a crossover with the Dark Knight in Season 2. That’s not the case according to the show’s executive producer Ali Adler.

“We have this beautiful history with DC, and I like that we get to borrow from this amazing, wonderful canon that we have. I feel like we have our hands full with the crossover we’re shooting right now,” Adler told TVline.com, referring to the four-way crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, which pits the shows’ heroes against the dreaded Dominators. “I think people will be satisfied with how much crossover they’re getting this season.”

Season 2 of “Supergirl” premieres on The CW on October 10 at 8.00pm.

Would there even be a point? They’ve taken so much Batman and folded it into Ollie already. Though they could go more Bronze Age and less Frank Miller if they do bring him in.

Don’t forget there is no Star City/Arrow in Supergirl’s universe. So the duplication you’re talking about might not be much of an issue since I think the crossover events will also be multiple universe events.

I don’t expect Batman to show up on Supergirl – although you never know about Batgirl or Batwoman – but even if he does it wouldn’t have much bearing on the Arrowverse.

Kathy Kane was rumored to appear in Season 2, but producers debunked that notion.

I never bought into that rumour. To me It sounded more like fan speculation inspired by the fact they were bringing in Maggie Sawyer who has been linked to Kathy Kane in the comics in recent years.

I suspect Maggie may end up flirting/having a relationship with Alex.

All I meant was that I think if a Bat-character does come onto the show at some point I suspect it will be a female one.

Only on the over-reactive internet could an offhanded joke like “We’re moving back to Gotham” be elevated to suggest that Batman is going to appear on Supergirl. Great Caesar’s ghost.
