While recent DC Comics properties, like “Aquaman” and “Joker”, have done well for Warner Bros. at the Box Office, Variety reports that the studio is less sure about what to do with Superman on the big screen.
To help find a way to make Superman relevant to modern audiences, studio brass has been polling lots of high-profile talent. There have been discussions with J.J. Abrams, whose company Bad Robot recently signed a massive first-look deal with the studio, and there was a meeting with Michael B. Jordan earlier this year with the “Creed” star pitching Warners on a vision for the character. However, Jordan isn’t ready to commit to taking on the project since filming doesn’t seem likely to happen for several years and he has a full dance card of projects. Insiders think that a new Superman film is unlikely to hit screens before 2023, given that there’s no script and no director attached.
While Warner Bros. appears to be courting other actors for the role, Henry Cavill recently told Men’s Health magazine that he’s not done with the role of Superman, saying, “The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine.”
Well I’m not surprised really. Probably won’t hear anything really new till about this time next year I bet.
Lower budget. Lower stakes. True to the character. This is not rocket science. I would love to see Henry be given something to really sink his teeth into. I love Michael b. Jordan, but he’s not Superman. JJ is completely overrated as well. I enjoyed the Star Trek movies and it got me into watching all the series… having done that, I see why trek fans don’t like the abrams movies.
WB thinks we Superman fans will just be content with Superman fare on television, including the upcoming series with Superman and Lois. With no script and no director attached to a Superman movie at the moment, the studio has a peculiar way of showing its affinity for such an important character by not giving it priority in any way. Surely, Brainiac must have placed WB in suspended animation regarding the production of another Superman movie.
Lets all hope they don’t think that. Because what the CW is going to do with this character isn’t going to be any wheres close to big screen Superman. For me anyway, that’s why I don’t want him near any TV series. It’ going to be another reduction in his character. The Adventures of Domesticated Superman??? Who want’s that drivel on a weekly basis??
2023 is a conservative estimate with no one attached and no director, producer or anything.
But 10 years between solo Superman films is a long enough wait. We will see what happens, I don’t really consider it “good news” at this point.
On another note, the Black Adam producer hinted that Superman could be possible for the film. As long as he’s not there to put over Adam.
I’m not interested in seeing Superman play second fiddle again. Hard pass. I’d rather have Shazam show up.
Depends IMO, if they bring Cavill back and he is used well and it creates lots of positive buzz for his character, then it can lead to something.
But if he’s just there to job, to put Adam over, then yeah it’s a pointless waste that will be JL all over again.

Although there were people that didn’t care for Cavill, I never got any impressions that he was any butt of jokes. However the mustache fiasco from the JL I would agree didn’t lead to positive comments. But that wasn’t Henry’s fault.
Agreed. Last thing we need is some manipulated bizarre version leading to an end result of making a “statement” and using the Superman character to do so.
This has been a bit of a roller coaster for Superman movie news these past couple of weeks. Cavill says he’s still in the role, then rumor of his Superman might appear in Black Adam 2, then J.J Abrams says he hasn’t had discussions on a Superman movie yet, then news on Michael B Jordan possibility playing the role, now news that we might not see a Superman film until 2023. Makes it hard to know what’s what for anything Superman movie related.
In all honesty, with either of those two names attached, I’d just as soon not have a Superman movie.
Yeah I’m in favor of starting fresh with a reboot. Although if they do go ahead with moving on from Cavill’s take, I hope it would be with Routh’s Kingdom Come Superman. He’s got a lot of fans and I have no doubt it would be successful.
