February 25, 2020: Jordan Elsass Talks About "Superman and Lois"

Actor Jordan Elsass recently participated in an interview with the FTTV Podcast to talk about being cast as Jonathan Kent for the upcoming "Superman and Lois" TV series, what the audition process was like, and what he hopes the series will do for Superman as a character.

In regards to auditioning for the role, Jordan reveals that he actually first auditioned for the role of Jordan Kent, the socially awkward of the two Kent brothers, which eventually went to Alex Garfin.

"I had an initial self tape that I sent in, and then there was a second self tape. They actually switched characters. So originally, my castmate Alex, I auditioned for the character he's playing, Jordan, which is my name in real life, which is funny. And so that was the original audition tape, and then I did a second one for Jonathan. I went in for a screen test in front of Warner Bros., and then there was a network test in front of CW, and so I went in for that network test and that was the final step in the audition process. It's a weird thing, because I've never auditioned or been that far along in the audition process for a network show." Jordan then goes on to describe where he was when he and his mother found out that he'd won the role.

Although humbled and excited, Jordan admits he's not too familiar with The CW superhero shows.

"In all honesty, I'm not too familiar with the Arrowverse as it is right now. Going back to the TV shows I would watch when I was younger, Smallville was one of my absolute favorites."

"But going off that I mean, yeah, something like this, I want to delve into those comics to at least have that there if I need to draw from that," he said. "I definitely want to do my research."

As for what he thinks the show will do for the character of Superman, and whether it will make him more relatable to audiences, Jordan says, "I think the beauty of this show is that it's going to be a little bit less about Superman as Superman. It's more going to be about Clark Kent as Clark Kent. I think that's the beauty, and that'll make the character more relatable for people. That's going to bring a whole fresh new take, with having to deal with these family issues. It's going to be a whole new side, I think to, Clark/Superman that we've never seen before."

Listen to the entire interview at the FTTV Podcast.

Written by Todd Helbing, based on the DC characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, "Superman & Lois" revolves around superhero Superman and journalist Lois as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.
