August 1, 2018: "Mission Impossible" Director's Full Explanation on Henry Cavill's Mustache and "Justice League"

While the "Justice League" movie was released back November 2017, discussions about the film continue to filter across the internet, with Henry Cavill's mustache still being an issue of contention. As every Superman fan knows by now, Henry grew the mustache for his role in the new "Mission Impossible" movie, which caused a problem when he was called upon to film reshoots for the "Justice League" movie, resulting in bad CGI.

In response to a fan's question on Twitter last month, "Mission Impossible: Fallout" director Christopher McQuarrie responded to the question about who was to blame for not allowing Henry to simply shave the mustache, promising to go into further detail in an interview with Empire Magazine's podcast. That podcast is now online, and you can hear McQuarrie's explanation at the 2 hour, 36 minute and 17 second mark.

When McQuarrie approached producer Jack Meyers to see what it would cost for them to try and digitally insert a mustache on Henry if they allowed him to shave it for "Justice League", Meyers came back with a $3 million price tag, and McQuarrie offered Warner Bros. to shut down "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" for three weeks (along with the $3 million) to allow Cavill to grow back the mustache to a point where minimal CGI would be required. When Paramount heard of the compromise they were not happy at all and axed the idea, forcing Warner Bros. to create a clean shaven look via CGI.

"Mission: Impossible - Fallout" is in theatres now.
