July 23, 2017: "Krypton" TV Series to Feature Doomsday, Brainiac, and More!

Hosted by Geoff Johns, SYFY's "Krypton" panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend revealed that the show will be more than just a history lesson on Krypton's past.

"It's a show that, although it takes place centuries ago on Krypton about the House of El, it's about a conspiracy from the present that has traveled back in time to Krypton to prevent Superman's legacy from ever happening," Johns announced.

"Adam Strange and Hawkwoman come to Krypton trying to stop the conspiracy and save Superman's legacy," Johns revealed. "Doomsday will be in the show. Brainiac is long overdue to be on screen like that."

"We've been keeping that under wraps," said Executive Producer Damian Kindler. "He has a really deep, rich history. He is the nexus point between man and machine, which is an incredibly real thing to talk about now."

Showrunner Cameron Welsh said the team knew early on that the audience needed a connection between the past and the present to hook them in to the show. "It changes the stakes of the show completely... It's not a look backwards. It's quite unique. It allows us to deepen and expand upon the known mythology."

Fans can expect to see DC characters like Adam Strange and Hawkgirl make appearances during the first season. However the hero of the show is definitely Seg-El, Jor-El's father, who is tasked with saving not only his future family, but also his present one.

"Due to events outside of Seg's control, his family legacy is stripped and they're thrown into the very bottom of Kryptonian society. One of the massive arcs of the show is how does Seg earn the legacy of the symbol [of the House of El]".

From Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, "Krypton" takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama follows the Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

"Krypton" is produced by Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is written by David Goyer (Man of Steel) with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Goyer also acts as executive produce through his company Phantom Four with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), who serves as showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) directed the pilot.

The cast includes: Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci's Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.

"Krypton" will premiere in 2018 on Syfy.
