April 1, 2017: Our April Fools Day Pranks

Once again this year we caught out a number of fans with two April Fools Day fake news stories...

April 1, 2017: Superman Scenes Completely Cut from "Justice League" Movie

If you watched the recent trailer for the upcoming "Justice League" movie and wondered where Superman was... There's a reason he's missing. According to a news report at USA Today, Superman's scenes have been completely removed from the film.

Director Zack Snyder told USA Today, "It's hard to have a Justice League without Superman. But we didn't feel he was completely necessary for the story we're telling in this film."

Henry Cavill, who attended the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon earlier this week, was only told of the decision after the presentation by Zack Snyder. Even though he was reportedly very disappointed at the news, the humble Cavill would not speak out against Snyder publicly when reached for a comment.

Ben Affleck, on the other hand, was quite vocal about the decision, telling USA Today, "Let's be honest. Superman is somewhat overrated. You don't really need him in the Justice League when you've got Batman and these other heroes to save the day."

April 1, 2017: Metropolis Superman Statue Beheaded in Freak Storm

Superman Statue

The Superman Statue in Metropolis, Illinois was catastrophically damaged in a freak storm last night, when high winds saw a large tree fly through the air, severing the head of the 15 foot bronze statue.

A line of severe storms that formed in Kansas overnight moved all the way across Missouri into southern Illinois bringing extensive wind damage to the extreme southern part of the state into western Kentucky. Winds as high as 80mph and several unconfirmed reports of tornadoes were reported with this line.

With the annual Superman Celebration scheduled to take place in June, it's not yet known how the statue will be repaired or what it's going to take to reattach the head, but Metropolis mayor Billy McDaniel said they will fix it.

"We'll definitely restore him, put him back together. We love Superman, so we'll get him all mended up and back to normal," McDaniel said. "I'm just not sure if we'll get him fixed in time for this year's celebration."

The statue was errected in 1993 at a cost of $120,000, mostly funded by the sale of engraved bricks which make up the base which the statue stands on. It's unknown if a similar fundraising effort will be employed to help secure the money needed to repair the statue.
