July 23, 2015: Special "Supergirl" Screening for 400 Mothers and Daughters
CBS invited 400 lucky mothers and daughters to a special screening of the "Supergirl" pilot at Universal Studios, treating them to a red carpet event that included a special appearance by Melissa Benoist.
- The fortunate fans posed for the paparazzi and played with their first gift of the day: Supergirl bracelets. Brimming with excitement, they even did the wave and started a rowdy Supergirl chant. Once the film reel began, the entire theater fell silent for the entirety of the screening - aside from the collective gasps, awes, and cheers during the particularly emotional scenes.
After the credits rolled though, the event was far from over. As guests prepared to leave, they were treated to one last surprise: Melissa Benoist, who walked onstage and reached for the microphone as fans screamed.
- "I was beside myself," Benoist tells PEOPLE of meeting her young fans. "There was an electric energy in the air that day. It was pure excitement."
Benoist says she's still hasn't "quite absorbed" the impact her strong heroine can have on her new, young fans.
"In some ways it has hit me, and in other ways it hasn't," she says. "I am fully aware of how much Supergirl means to her fans and how much she has the ability to affect people for the better, but I'm not sure I am quite aware of how large that circle of affectation is - and I might not be until the show begins to air in the fall."
