March 9, 2015: Malina Weissman Cast as Young Supergirl

Malina Weissman According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Malina Weissman has been cast to play the role of young Kara Zor-El in the upcoming "Supergirl" TV series.

Weissman, who is best known for playing the younger version of April in the recent "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie, will guest-star in the Pilot episode of "Supergirl" in what will most likely be a flashback to her early years on Krypton.

The drama pilot centers on Kara Zor-El (Glee and Whiplash alum Melissa Benoist), Superman's cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, Kara was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers (which she shares with her famous cousin).

The cast includes: Melissa Benoist as Kara/Supergirl, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, and Jeremy Jordan as Winslow Schott.

Andrew Kreisberg (The Flash and Arrow), Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler are writers on the series. Glen Winter is directior of the pilot episode from a script penned by Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow), both of whom are executive producers alongside Sarah Schechter and Andrew Kreisberg.

The Supergirl TV series is expected to debut on CBS this September.
