February 2, 2015: Brandon Routh "Superman: Flyby" Costume Test

You may recall that back in December 2013 an image from Henry Cavill's screen test for the never-made "Superman: Flyby" film was posted online.

I don't know how it skipped by unnoticed at the time, but back in the same month ThinkMcFlyThink.com also posted a photo of Brandon Routh's screen test wearing the same costume.

Brandon Routh Screen Test

This screen shot gives us a more complete look at the suit. Note what looks like a red belt. The Flyby suit screams action figure and Routh certainly looks the part. The screen test was only months before his test for Superman Returns.

We thought you'd like to see them both together for comparison.

Henry Cavill Screen Test

The British thespian first wore a prototype red-and-blue design for Superman: Flyby, the ill-fated relaunch via McG, and by all accounts, so impressed he was cast. Then it fell apart and when Bryan Singer took over, he opted to go in another direction and made Superman Returns. And when it came time to re-restart for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan, Cavill was once again called upon, this time wearing a replica of the Christopher Reeve design. And we all know how the rest of that story turned out.

These screen tests were conducted during the pre-production/casting phase of the never-made "Superman: Flyby" back in 2004.
