April 27, 2014: Interview with Superman/Batman Casting Director

Jay Towers from FOX 2 DETROIT spoke with Maryellen Aviano, the casting director for the Superman/Batman movie, to talk to her about the extras casting currently taking place in Detroit, Michigan for the film.

There will be numerous opportunities for potential extras available to work at metro Detroit locations between June and November.

Aviano says following directions is crucial to being an extra - so pay attention to these guidelines for today's event.

Don't line up early. "There is no advantage to being first in line," stresses Aviano. Just make sure to be there by 3 p.m., because newcomers won't be accepted after that. She will stay long enough to see those in line by 3 p.m.
Don't phone the Somerset Inn. Simply go to the hotel at 2601. W. Big Beaver Road in Troy and enter on the north side.
The one thing you need to bring? A pen for filling out an application. "I'm a stickler for this," says Aviano, who's done extras casting in Detroit for "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "Transformers: Age of Extinction."
Don't wear a costume. Think of this as the equivalent of a job fair. You want to be taken seriously, and looking like yourself is part of that.
No children will be allowed at the casting call - no exceptions. Parents can submit small current school photos of children ages nine to 15. You can drop them off during the event if you're not applying for work yourself, according to Aviano.
The search specifies military, law enforcement and business types. But that covers all sorts of possible extra roles, anything from a banker or teacher to a store clerk or mom or dad.
Be patient. Aviano, who was in Detroit last year for the multi-city search for "Star Wars" leads, says the process must be done properly, which takes time. "I'm very respectful of the project I'm working on. I run a tight ship. But I want to employ as many people in the Detroit area as I can."
