September 30, 2014: DC Comics Responds to Sexist Merchandise Criticism

A recent public outcry over licensed T-Shirts and Baby onesies displaying what many consider to be sexist slogans has received an official response from DC Comics via a DC Entertainment spokesperson.

    DC Comics is home to many of the greatest male and female Super Heroes in the world. All our fans are incredibly important to us, and we understand that the messages on certain t-shirts are offensive. We agree. Our company is committed to empowering boys and girls, men and women, through our characters and stories. Accordingly, we are taking a look at our licensing and product design process to ensure that all our consumer products reflect our core values and philosophy.

Sexist Shirts Sexist PJs

One of the T-shirts at the center of the complaint features Superman and Wonder Woman embracing with the slogan, "Score! Superman does it again."

While hundreds of people have denounced Target for selling "sexist" baby pyjamas after a university professor posted a photograph of the clothing on social media. The boy clothing features a Superman logo and the line "Future Man of Steel," while the girl item has the same logo but the line: "I Only Date Heroes."
