August 10, 2014: A Look Back at "Superman #1" From 1939

Superman #1 The Q-Collection Facebook page has begun posting a number of full panel pages from the 1939 edition of "Superman #1", examining in detail this iconic comic book, which is part of the Q-Collection's archive and preservation project.

The middle panel may look familiar to you. It should. This panel was redrawn to become the cover of the 1938 ACTION COMICS #1. Undoubtedly this is the most recognized superhero drawing of all time.

REMINDER: There are 190 copies of this comic book known to exist. This is one of those copies. Overstreet #44 lists a NM- copy at a breathtaking $800,000.

John, our project founder, has to be given full credit for his wheeling and dealing in the early 2000s to get hold of this copy for the Q-Project. The SUPERMAN binder that this comic will reside in will without a doubt become the most checked out Q-Collection binder in the US LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. And, in the years to come, it may become the most checked out book of any type in that incredible library.

That library, as you may know, already has one copy of this comic in their collection. They've had it professionally deacified and now proudly state that the comic will last between 500 and 800 years in their care. Of course it is now too fragile for anyone to examine - not even researchers. So it sits, unread, waiting its final fate in the centuries to come. It will eventually become very valuable DUST.

NOT SO THIS COPY: This copy will survive up to 10,000 years. And it can be checked out and read cover-to-cover over-and-over-and-over once it has been donated to the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. And anyone in the world can read it for FREE.

This is a GIFT from our founder and his advisors to the children (including you and me) of the world for the next ten millennium
