May 26, 2014: Golden Age and Silver Age Superman Origin Splash Pages

The Q-Collection Comic Book Project, which preserves key comic books from the 1930s to the 1960s as a reading collection for the U.S Library of Congress, posted a couple of Splash Pages on their Facebook page from famous "Origin" issues of Superman comic books from the Golden and Silver Age, which are preserved in the Q-Coilection Comic Book Preservation Project for future generations to enjoy.

Superman #53

Shown here is a splash page of the 1948 SUPERMAN #53 comic book. This is the famous ORIGIN ISSUE of the Man of Steel... although he doesn't quite look like a steely kinda guy in the picture.

The current Overstreet Guide #43 lists a NM- copy of this beauty at US$5,600.

SUPERMAN had been around since 1938, but it wasn't until this 1948 comic that a comprehensive origin was provided to Superman fans. This was a very popular issue and lots of them can be found today - mostly because no kid would part with his or her copy of the origin of the mightiest man on Earth. So if you want a copy, then you'll be able to find lot of bargains in any auction listed in a READER COPY condition search.

The kids and historians of the many millennium to come will be thrilled to see how SUPERMAN'S ORIGIN was explained. (Have our astronomers found a nice RED SUN with an Earth-like planet in orbit around it yet?)

Also preserved in the Q-Collection Comic Book Project is a copy of "Superman #146" from 1961...

Superman #146

Shown here is a splash page from the 1961 Silver Age origin issue of SUPERMAN #146 entitled "THE STORY OF SUPERMAN'S LIFE!". This is a follow-up to the 1948 SUPERMAN #53 origin issue.

This copy is complete with its cover, but John (the project founder) thought it might be worthwhile to see how the silver age was presenting our SUPER GUY. The cover of this gem can be found on the Q-Collection Facebook page.

The current Overstreet Guide #43 lists a NM- copy of this comic at a mere US$675. This is one you might search out a slabbed 9.0+ copy for your collection or a gift to your son or daughter to remember you by... and copy another in fair condition to read and enjoy by your entire family.
