January 31, 2013: Ohio House Revists Superman License Plates

License Plate This week the House of Representatives in Ohio introduced a bill to authorize Superman-themed license plates for the state.

State Rep. Bill Patmon said House Bill 11 is awaiting committee assignment. He anticipated no opposition in the House. The bill, which provides Ohio drivers more choices for specialty license plates, would then go to the Senate and eventually to the governor for his signature.

Patmon said he wants to make sure the plates are available in 2013, the 75th anniversary of the debut of "Action Comics" No. 1, the first appearance of Superman.

The plates, which would feature the Superman insignia and the slogan "Truth, Justice & the American Way," will honor Clevelanders Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who created Superman in Glenville during the Great Depression.

The plates were originally supposed to feature the words "Birthplace of Superman", but DC Comics objected to the phrase, but were happy with the selection of "Truth, Justice and the American Way" instead.
