November 24, 2013: Curt Swan Superman (JFK) Cover Sells for $112,015

Action Comics #309 Art An original comic book cover art by Curt Swan for the cover of "Action Comics #309" showing the Man of Steel with the Superman family of characters, and shaking hands with John F. Kennedy disguised as Clark Kent, exceeded expectations, and sold for US$112,015 at auction.

It was a hefty price, in part because that one-of-a-kind original cover shows Superman waiting on a legion of other beloved heroes, including Batman and Robin. But what makes it truly unique is Clark Kent.

After all, how could Superman's alter ego and the Man of Steel himself be seen shaking hands together on the cover? Simple, according to the classic comic. Superman had asked for help from the president of the United States. And in issue No. 309, he got it.

Clark Kent, it turns out, was President Kennedy in disguise.

Auction rules prevent Hakes.com from disclosing the identity of the person who purchased the artwork.
