August 24, 2010: Interview with "Young Justice" Cartoon Series Creators

Young Justice Comic Book Movies has an interview with the creators behind the upcoming new animated series "Young Justice", Greg Weisman and Brandon Vieti. In the interview, the creators explain who they chose for their cast of young heroes, which mentors will have particularly large and regular roles on the show, and the general tone and look of the show.

Superboy (Conner Kent) is described as literally being a newbie -- he was cloned only 16 weeks ago though he acts like a 16 year old teenager. They also are asked about his genetic makeup and the Producers decline to comment whether or not he'll have the combined genetic makeup of Lex Luthor and Superman -- though his origins will be explored on the show. Both Superboy and Superman will be voiced by actor Nolan North.

The remainder of the team is comprised of Robin (Dick Grayson), Kid Flash (Wally West), Miss Martian (The Martian Manhunter's daughter), Artemis (unkown though she is based on an existing DCU character), and the new Aqualad (the son of Aqua-rogue Black Manta). Original Aqualad Garth will appear as well. Another hero appearing often will be the Big Red Cheese, Captain Marvel, voiced by Rob Lowe. Many assignments will come from Red Tornado and Batman (voiced by Bruce Greenwood reprising the role from "Batman: Under the Red Hood").

Superman is described as having a "large role" on the show along with other members of the Justice League. The series is set in continuity on Earth-16 in the new 52-Earth Multiverse. The series tone will not be as light as "Teen Titans" nor as straight-up serious as "Justice League"/"Justice League Unlimited". Look for "Young Justice" to debut on Cartoon Network this November.
