Nash Healey

March 18, 2010: Mild-Mannered Car of Steel

The New York Times published an article recently about one Superman fan who was so enamored of the cars seen in the 1950s "Adventures of Superman" TV series, that he went out and purchased one...

In fact, Mr. Conaty said, it was "Superman" that eventually led him to buy his 1950 Nash Ambassador Custom, which was parked outside.

"There must've been one car dealer in all of Metropolis, because everyone drove a Nash," he explained. "Lois Lane had a Nash Rambler. Clark Kent drove a Nash-Healey sports car. For a good chunk of 'Superman,' you saw nothing but Nashes."

Mr. Conaty watched "Superman" as a boy in Queens and was eventually inspired to buy a 1954 Nash Ambassador, for which he paid $250 including delivery. Even at the time - he was in high school - the deal seemed too good to be true.

You can read the complete article at the NY Times website.

Did you know? George Reeves' owned a 1953 Alvis TA -21-100 Convertable which was a gift from his girlfriend Toni Mannix. Reportedly this car was 1 of only 5 made!

The car Clark Kent drove in "The Adventures of Superman" TV series was a 1952 Nash Healey Convertable.
