Bob Holiday

April 29, 2010: SupermanBobHoliday.com Updated With Exclusive New Content

The website for Bob Holiday, the first and only actor ever to portray the Man of Steel on the Broadway stage, is now updated with more rare and exclusive content for Superman fans!

Bob starred as Superman/Clark Kent in the 1966 Charles Strouse/Lee Adams musical "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" (see related story for news of the forthcoming revival of this acclaimed musical by the Dallas Theatre Center, June 18 to July 25, at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center).

This new content at www.SupermanBobHoliday.com includes:

  • A print ad for Bigelow carpets featuring a unique photo of Bob Holiday as Clark Kent (and Superman) with actress Joan Hotchkis. (Hotchkis portrayed Lois Lane in the show's Philadelphia previews, but was replaced by the late Patricia Marand when the musical opened on Broadway.)
  • Backstage reminiscences (with rare photos) by Bert Gibbs and Wayne Johnston, who - as youngsters - visited with Bob Holiday after the show.
  • News of Wizard magazine's recent sidebar interview with Bob Holiday, which looks back at Superman's 1966 Broadway run amid the challenge today's producers are having in attempting to adapt Spider-Man as a musical.

Also on www.SupermanBobHoliday.com are: rare videos of Bob as Superman; photos of Bob's appearance at the 25th Annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois; The Daily Planet Broadway Edition from the original cast LP; and more.

Life-long Superman/Bob Holiday fan Toni Collins designs and updates www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, ensuring new content on a regular basis.

Also, in related news, the upcoming revival of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" scheduled for June 16-July 25, in Dallas, has cast its Superman (Matt Cavenaugh) and its Max Mencken. The latter is played by Patrick Cassidy, son of song-and-dance legend Jack Cassidy, who originated the role on Broadway opposite Bob Holiday.

Patrick's mother is musical mega-star Shirley Jones (The Music Man, Oklahoma!, Carousel, etc.)

Patrick Cassidy has also appeared in episodes of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Smallville.
