August 12, 2010: Detroit Free Press Covers Superman's Walk to Motor City

Detroit Part two of the Superman storyline "Grounded" hit the stands yesterday and Superman continues his walk across America. Issue 702 brings the Man of Steel to Detroit, Michigan and the Detroit Free Press has an article touting Supey's visit to the Motor City:

The Detroit-themed issue gives Superman a chance to meet some local residents and see how the economic downturn has affected the area.

"One of the story lines actually takes him to a recently closed auto plant in the city," says Dan DiDio, copublisher of DC Comics.

Superman also plays basketball with some teens and faces a mysterious otherworldly threat.

DiDio says he hopes that when people read it, "they actually will feel that this story is taking place in Detroit and could only be told in that city."

Future stops on Superman's walking tour will include cities in Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington. In the DC Universe, Detroit's big claim to superhero fame is having played host to a prior incarnation of the Justice League which at that time included Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Gypsy, Vibe, Steel, and Vixen.
