July 25, 2010: SDCC - Superman Homepage at Superman Panel and Photos from Day 1

SDCC San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is well underway and Superman Homepage staff reporters Jeffrey Bridges and Ivan Jaime are covering the comics and entertainment expo for the Superman Homepage all weekend long.

SH staff reporter Jeffrey Bridges attended the Superman: Man of Tomorrow panel. Bridges filed text message briefs regarding the information shared by DC at the panel:

    1. Lex Luthor in Action Comics will face off against a new villain every month including Gorilla Grodd in an upcoming issue, plus Mister Mind, Deathstroke, Death, and a Secret Six crossover.

    2. The Phantom Stranger and Superboy will guest star in an upcoming issue of Action.

    3. J.M. Strazynski said regarding the Superman: Earth One book that Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, will be a "crazy fearless photographer."

    4. Regarding crossovers, DC promises to be taking an extended break from crossovers in the Superman titles.

    5. Lex Luthor will be staying a free man out of prison for a while.

    6. During the Q&A, a fan asked if Clark Kent had a job anymore at the Daily Planet given he'd been away on New Krypton for a year and now is going walking for another year around the country. Strazynski answered sarcastically that "His job is being Clark."

    7. Strazynski also promised that he'd be addressing the issue of aliens in Arizona literally in the Superman books.

    8. Strazynski explained that DC editor Dan Didio asked Strazynski to "revitalize" the Man of Steel.

    9. The story in Earth-One is much darker than current continuity and Strazynski explains the destruction of Krypton is very much "an assassination." Superman's appearance artistically will be "leaner and angular and also darker".

    10. Lex's arc in Action will end with Lex a "changed" man.

    11. There will be brand new villains coming in Action and in the Earth-One book.

    12. There will be two new Supergirl villains coming in both Supergirl and the Supergirl Annual.

    13. Strazynski promises more "authentic" reporting stories for Lois Lane Kent.

SH reporter Ivan Jaime submitted the following photographs from SDCC including a look at the forum, photos with DC Comics COO Geoff Johns and Jeph Loeb, the writer of Superman/Batman story arcs adapted for "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" and the upcoming "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse". Jaime tells the Superman Homepage that the costumed black and white Superman is fan Will Romine as George Reeves.

Keep watching the Superman Homepage for more from Comic-Con including an upcoming report from Ivan Jaime on Mattel's release plans for the DC line of action figures and, of course, Sunday's "Smallville" panel.
