Noel Neill

November 25, 2009: Happy Birthday Noel Neill!

Noel Neill, best known to Superman fans as Lois Lane in the "Adventures of Superman" 1950s TV series, celebrates her birthday today!

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA in 1920, Noel Neill first played Lois Lane in the 1948 "Superman" serial alongside Kirk Alyn, and returned to the role in the "Atom Man vs. Superman" serial in 1950. When Phyllis Coates was unable to return to play Lois Lane after the first season of the "Adventures of Superman" TV series, Noel Neill was called in and continued to play the character until the show's end.

Noel made a cameo appearance in "Superman: The Movie", playing Lois Lane's mother, and also appeared in an episode of the "Superboy" TV series in 1991 (titled "Paranoia"). In 2006 Noel Neill carried on her long association with the Man of Steel, playing Gertrude Vanderworth in "Superman Returns".

Named the First Lady of Metropolis for the annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois, Noel Neill will be honored with a life-size statue to be unveiled at the 2010 Superman Celebration.

A long-time friend of the Superman Homepage, we wish Noel Neill a very happy birthday!
