Poll Position

May 1, 2009: Poll Position - Please Return to "Smallville"!

By G.V. Golwitzer (GeorgeHouseofEl)

May 17, 2007 we lose Martha Kent.

March 11, 2008 was the last appearance of Pete Ross.

May 15, 2008 the Milton Fine/Brainiac character meets his ultimate fate, at least in that form.

February 5, 2009 both Lana Lang and Lex Luthor leave the show, presumably forever.

Which character should come back? Which character would serve the greater good of the show to come back? What has each character not accomplished that they should've by this point in the Superman story?

Martha Kent, with her husband Jonathon, raised Clark from the time they found the young boy in a cornfield until he left Smallville to forge his greater destiny in Metropolis. Martha contributed many things to Clark's development into Superman that have yet to be touched on in Smallville. Martha is typically contributed for the design and creation of the classic Superman costume, and we all know that Clark has yet to don the tights. If Martha came back to the show she could bring back the moral compass that Clark has seemed to lack of late.

Pete Ross, best friend and high school sidekick to Clark Kent disappeared from the show to move on to bigger and better things, although appearing once on the show after his departure Pete has pretty much trickled away. Pete could bring so much more back to the show. He could be a friend to Clark in the way that Clark's other friends have been falling short, he could provide comedic relief when all others seem to lose hope, and he could run for Vice President... oh wait, Lex is dead, isn't he?

Milton Fine. What can be said about Milton Fine that hasn't been said before? Probably quite a lot... but Brainiac... that's who I want to see back. Forget the human aspect of the character, bring me back the unrelenting, unemotional, super-computer Brainiac and let him unleash as much chaos and destruction as his programming allows. Brainiac would be a villain that would validate the ninth season and give Clark a great sending off into the end of the series.

Lana Lang... don't... just... don't.

Lex Luthor, the greatest criminal mastermind of our time. Lex had so much left to accomplish in the show. He could've created a business empire and started on his way to world domination and eventual Presidency. I would call back on the Lex character if, and only if, Rosenbaum would play him again. Lex's death to explosion does put a bit of a damper on that outcome though.

Other. I was going to check out the KO Count and list off a few names that could come back that would be a good story line (i.e. Bizarro, Morgan Edge, Zod, Myx, Lex's Ex-Wife, etc...) when my wife chimed in and suggested that they should bring back Jonathon. Jonathon Kent. The only character that everyone on the show and watching the show admired, but yet had to die. Unfortunately Jonathon is dead, which makes his comeback a bit of a dream. Well, he's got my vote, even if it's unlikely.

One vote for Jonathon Kent from this writer, what say you?
