Bob Holiday

November 12, 2009: Broadway's Superman Turns 77

Unseen For 43 Years! Rare Superman Commercial Now Online at SupermanBobHoliday.com

A long-lost part of Superman's television history has been found and can be seen once again at www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, the official website of Bob Holiday, the first and only actor ever to portray the Man of Steel on the Broadway stage. The item is an extremely rare 30-second after-shave commercial, which includes the only color film footage known to exist of Bob in costume as Superman. Added to Bob's site just in time for his 77th birthday on Thursday, November 12, the commercial includes Bob doing a George Reeves-style window exit and a voice-over by Jackson Beck, narrator of the 1940's Adventures of Superman radio series.

Unseen for 43 years, the commercial originally aired on U.S. television stations in 1966 during the run of the acclaimed Charles Strouse/Lee Adams musical "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" in which Bob starred as Clark Kent/Superman.

Bob Holiday's historic 1966 TV commercial joins the other videos on his site, including his appearance as Superman on the game show I've Got a Secret and the original Story of Superman "newsreel" used onstage during performances of the "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" musical.

Life-long Superman/Bob Holiday fan Toni Collins designed and updates www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, ensuring new content on a regular basis. A major revival of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" is planned for Summer 2010. Stay tuned to the Superman Homepage for more information in the coming months.
