Bob Holiday

October 19, 2009: Extra! Extra! Read All About It at SupermanBobHoliday.com!

"Superman Saves City!" "Man of Steel Stops Missile Fired From Mysterious Sub!" These and other headlines appeared on the back cover of the original LP release of the Broadway cast recording of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman." Long out of print, The Daily Planet Broadway Edition that appeared on the original LP release is once again available for you to enjoy at www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, the official website of Bob Holiday, the first and only actor ever to portray the Man of Steel on the Broadway stage!

The original Broadway cast recording of this hit 1966 show has been a steady seller for more than 40 years, and today is available on CD. But although this excellent Sony Broadway release (available on Amazon.com and other online stores) includes a multilingual 40-page booklet and four bonus tracks, the smaller size of the CD format necessitated the omission of The Daily Planet Broadway Edition that once fit comfortably on 12-inch LP album sleeves.

Now, however, www.SupermanBobHoliday.com has been updated to bring you this special edition, which features articles and columns that serve as a "third act," providing an epilogue to a show that The New York Times described as "Easily the best musical this season," and adding "It would be enjoyable in any season."

"It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" featured music by the team of composer Charles Strouse and lyricist Lee Adams, winners of the Tony award for their scores to Applause and Bye Bye Birdie (Strouse won an additional Tony as the composer of Annie). The script to "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" was written by Robert Benton and David Newman (who would later co-write two and three of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, respectively).

In addition to The Daily Planet Broadway Edition, www.SupermanBobHoliday.com also features Musical Memories, exclusive photos, and rare videos of Bob's appearance as Superman on a 1966 episode of the CBS game show I've Got a Secret (in which he Bob flies onstage and teaches host Steve Allen how to fly as well) and the original Story of Superman "newsreel" that appeared in the show.

Life-long Superman/Bob Holiday fan Toni Collins designed and regularly updates www.SupermanBobHoliday.com, ensuring new content for fans of Bob Holiday and this important chapter of Superman's multimedia history. By the way, a major revival of "It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman" is planned for Summer 2010. Stay tuned to the Superman Homepage for more information in the coming months!
